As much fun as it is to watch the celebrities perform on “The Masked Singer,” we get even more enjoyment from figuring out who they are. That is especially true if we can crack the mystery of who is hiding inside a costume before the four judges.
Season 7 of “The Masked Singer” promises to be the most competitive yet. The producers have packed the line-up with 16 stars performing inside 15 costumes (a pair were paired up as Hydra). They are divided into three types, the Good, the Bad and the Cuddly, and performed in groups of five. Group A is down to just one star still standing, the Firefly. Group B sang for the first time on March 30, with Lemur unmasked as supermodel Christie Brinkley. On April 6, we saw the exit of Hydra, who turned out to be magicians Penn & Teller.

The Group B final is set for “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday, April 13. Armadillo and Ringmaster from Team Good along with Miss Teddy from Team Cuddly will throw down on the big stage for one spot in the Season 7 finale. That means there will be two unmaskings in one night! Ultimately, panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger will determine the winner along with the studio audience, but fans have strong feelings on what the outcome should be.

This article contains spoilers for What If…? episode 3.
The third episode of Marvel’s What If…? goes in a different direction than the two that preceded it. Instead of switching roles like Captain Carter and T’Challa as Star-Lord, the third episode hides its turning point under a murder mystery. It’s an episode about the Avengers never existing, which has absolutely nothing to do with the actual comic issue What If the Avengers Had Never Been?, but instead turns out more like DC Comics’ Identity Crisis.
In this branch reality, Hope Van Dyne ended up becoming an Agent of Shield. Reading between the lines, she was most likely killed in action by the Winter Soldier (the location she died is the same place Bucky wounded Black Widow). This caused her father Hank Pym to go completely off the deep end. Wearing the Yellowjacket costume, he proceeded to murder Iron Man,...

Despite the abundance of samurai films, Japan is not exactly famous for its martial arts movies, since the genre is not particularly popular in the country. Occasionally, though, such films do come out, with “Re:Born” and “Crazy Samurai Musashi” being among the most notable. Action choreographer turned director Kensuke Shinomura, presents one of the latest.
After her father has disappeared mysteriously, Rina is left with running his bar, “Hydra”, with Kenta, a waiter whom the female customers seem to like particularly, and Takashi, a mysterious middle-aged chef, who very rarely even speaks. Soon, however, both his connection to Rina’s past and to an organization of assassins is revealed, as Takashi has to undertake one last mission. Inevitably, Rina also gets tangled in the case.

Yalla Yalla, the production Jv between Middle East distributor Front Row and London-based sales firm Rocket Science, has hired Maia Malas as Head of Development & Production, based in Dubai.
Since 2016, Malas has been working in Dubai where she consulted for Osn before moving to indie production company Genomedia Studios, helping to establish a development arm and building a TV slate and scripting team.
Her first development role was at BBC Media Action where she worked on TV series including Dawaran Shoubra (by Amro El Daly) and Zaat (by Mariam Naoum).
Since 2012, Malas has run her own development consultancy, Metis Media, overseeing a number of films, documentaries and series with clients in the UK and across the Arab region. Having not directed a film since 2014’s Maps to the Stars, we’ve been patiently awaiting the return of Canadian master David Cronenberg. Viggo Mortensen finally let slip earlier this year that he was reuniting with his Eastern Promises and A History of Violence director for a new film this summer—a “strange film noir story” that will find him going back to his origins. Now, the first official details have arrived.
Cronenberg is confirmed to be headed to Greece this summer to shoot a sci-fi film with the title of Crimes of the Future, reports Kftv (via Screen Daily). Fans of the director’s early work will of course recognize it is the same title as one of his first films, made in 1970 and set in 1997, following a mad dermatologist who searches for his mentor after a cosmetic invention gone wrong kills the entire population of sexually mature women.

This article contains The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 6 spoilers.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is over and it ended with one doozy of a post-credits scene. Sharon Carter is back, and she’s apparently flipped on the United States.
At the end of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier episode 6, Sharon finally gets her pardon. Senator Government Official, the unnamed, definitely not Senator Kelly guy who has been moving the plot forward all show, sits in an extremely insecure presumably Intelligence Committee hearing room and offers Sharon a full pardon, and her old job in intelligence back. She accepts, leaves the hearing, and puts a call into….someone…very excited about her pending access to a wealth of government secrets. She’s up to something.
This isn’t an unprecedented situation, though. Sharon is one of the Marvel Universe’s premiere superspies, up there with Nick Fury...

This article contains The Falcon and the Winter Soldier spoilers and potential spoilers for the wider MCU.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 3 might end up being remembered as the turning point of the series. A slow burn first episode led to some bigger revelations in the second one, but the third episode of the Marvel series is a bona fide sequel to one of the biggest MCU movies of all time in Captain America: Civil War. With a truly triumphant return for Sharon Carter and the re-introduction of Baron Helmut Zemo in a form that should feel much more recognizable to fans of the comics, there’s plenty of Marvel action to be had in “Power Broker.”
Here’s what we found…

Spoiler Alert: The following recap contains spoilers from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Episode 3, “The Power Broker.”
The halfway point of Disney+/Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Solider served up plenty of set-up, with a chock-a-block amount of details from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as returning characters and cameos galore.
The biggest surprise, as is typical for any of these new Marvel/Disney+ episodes, came with its cliffhanger: The arrival of Florence Kasumba’s Black Panther warrior Ayo, who Bucky encounters on the streets in Latvia. “I’m here for Zemo,” she declares in Wakandan. Zemo assassinated King T’Chaka in Captain America: Civil War, and Ayo has come for his head. Who knows how this plot string will get tied up, but as Deadline first told you there is a Wakanda series in the works for Disney+. This looks like the launchpad.

For a show that only has six episodes, “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” got off to a slow start, but the pace has been steadily picking up ever since Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) reunited early in the second episode. With this week’s third episode, titled “Power Broker,” the series finally got the adrenaline shot it needed as the duo attempted to figure out who was producing the super-soldier serum and why. In the process, the episode also saw the return of not only Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) and Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), but also Ayo (Florence Kasumba) of the Dora Milaje. Ayo’s appearance came in a last-second reveal that fans may or may not have seen coming depending on their ability to pay attention to small details.
But let’s back up for a second. The episode, written by “John Wick” (2014) writer Derek Kolstad,...

The worst-kept secret about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is that it's partially about Sam Wilson's reluctance to take up the identity of Captain America. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, where Sam is essentially chosen by his old friend Steve Rogers to take over as Cap, things looked pretty set. If the comics are anything to go by, though, Sam has a long and winding road ahead of him before he finally does take up the mantle of Captain America.
At one point in the comics, Steve goes up against the Iron Nail, a former Shield agent named Ran Shen who became a villain after accidentally awakening a spirit called Nian and becoming disillusioned with Shield during a tragic mission gone wrong. During the fight, the Iron Nail manages to drain Steve of the super-soldier serum that gives him his Captain America abilities; as a result, Steve loses...

This Friday, Disney+ starts the next step in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Spinning out of the Captain America movies, the series follows the character’s two best friends working together (albeit reluctantly) to fill the void left from Chris Evans leaving the series. One of these heroes is Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, as played by Sebastian Stan.
Bucky is an interesting part of Marvel history. He predates most characters in the MCU, created during World War II in Cap’s very first appearance by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby as a blatant Robin knockoff. When Captain America was thawed out and joined the Avengers, it was established that Bucky died in an explosion. It was mandated that Bucky would never come back. He was as permanently dead as Ben Parker and Gwen Stacy.
Then, in the mid-00s, Ed Brubaker took on...

Disney+’s Marvel Phase 4 bombardment continues this week with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. While it probably won’t have the mind-bending weirdness of WandaVision, it hopes to make up for it with exciting action. Also, while WandaVision was focused on two characters who never truly got the spotlight in previous movies, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier goes a step further by delving into the absence of one of Marvel’s top names.
In the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, Chris Evans has finished up his role as Captain America and Steve Rogers has been given his much-needed retirement. Now there is a void, which can hopefully be filled in by his two best friends.
Sam Wilson, the titular Falcon (played by Anthony Mackie), has been in six movies as of this point. Not everyone can check out every MCU flick, so a refresher course is in order on...

After two months and nine episodes, WandaVision came to a close. One of the more unique projects to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the show mixed mystery and horror with sitcom pastiche and understandings of grief under the superhero umbrella. The first step in both Phase 4 and Disney+’s Marvel lineup came out a success and built towards future projects.
Then again, its mysterious nature worked against it at times. Figuring out answers on a weekly basis meant trying to stay one step ahead of the show and sometimes it got viewers going in the wrong direction. There was no Mephisto or X-Men or Fantastic Four. Episode eight of WandaVision, titled "Previously On," takes us all the way back to the beginning; not just of the show, but to Wanda's first interaction with the Stark Industries bomb that would change her life. Up until now, we've been under the assumption that Wanda's powers, at least in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, are a direct result of the Hydra experiments she took part in along with her brother prior to Avengers: Age of Ultron. Through the memories that Agatha Harkness makes Wanda relive during the episode, however, we realize not everything has been as it seems.
Agatha wants to know what makes Wanda tick and how Westview came to be, so she makes the latter relive some of the most traumatic moments in her life to get answers. First up is the death of her parents, courtesy of a mortar shell through their apartment during TV time. It's...

Throw out everything you thought you knew about WandaVision because everything has changed.
WandaVision Season 1 Episode 8 was the most emotional installment of the series yet, as it explored Wanda's grief after losing her parents, Pietro, and Vision. It showed what Marvel could do when it is at its best.
Overall, "Previously On" was what fans were looking for. It answered many questions, poised a few more, and delivered in ways that make the whole series come full circle -- setting the show up for an epic finale.
Wanda was the star of the hour, as was her grief.
In her element, Elizabeth Olsen masterfully showcased Wanda's complex emotions as Agatha forced her into reliving her most tragic memories. From the bombing in Sokovia to the day she saw Vision's body at S.W.O.R.D., Wanda's life has not been easy.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier cast puts two fan-favorite supporting characters front and center, along with Baron Zemo, a villain that Marvel fans have already seen on screen before. Zemo isn't just any supervillain - he's one who's terrifyingly familiar to both Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes from his past run-in with the Avengers.
Baron Zemo, aka Helmut Zemo, is the main villain in Captain America: Civil War, which starts out as a philosophical conflict between the Avengers and quickly turns personal. His motivations are simple: his family was killed in Sokovia, so he wants revenge on the Avengers. Zemo is personally responsible for putting Bucky at the heart of the conflict: he tracks down Bucky's old Hydra handler and steals a book of trigger phrases, then plants evidence to make it look like Barnes is the bomber who carries out the attack that kills Wakandan King T'Chaka, among others.

WandaVision has been considered one of the more unique concepts for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The new Disney+ show takes two members of the Avengers and puts them in a new setting with a sitcom motif that is intended to be a comforting status quo but is anything but. As the layers begin to peel back on reality, this story of a wise android and his magic-wielding wife is more of a bonkers horror mystery than anything else.
To have this as the first step in the long-awaited Phase 4 of the MCU is a ballsy move. A move forced because of the worldwide Covid situation, but a ballsy move regardless. How do you even explain the concept of the show to someone who is taken in by the commercials or sees the icon on the Disney+ menu? Avengers: Infinity War also had a lot of baggage going in, but even that was easily explained as,...

It’s been quite a long break, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe is back from hibernation in 2021, starting with WandaVision. As the climactic Avengers: Endgame and its denouement Spider-Man: Far From Home concluded Phase 3, we’ve had to wait the entire chaotic 2020 before Phase 4 could start up in 2021.
You might have a friend or relative asking you, “What is WandaVision, exactly?” and folks, that is a loaded question. Especially if they haven’t watched many or any of the Marvel movies. How do you explain a plot about an ever-evolving sitcom reality that gradually falls apart due to the complicated and traumatic relationship between a reformed terrorist with too much power on her hands and a polite android who shouldn’t even exist? And don’t get me started on the pre-existing supporting characters from other Marvel movies.

This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Dallas and Roseanne.
When Marvel first announced that it would be creating a spinoff show for Disney+ led by MCU superheroes Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), there was some understandable confusion from fans who weren’t quite sure how it would work. After all, WandaVision wasn’t supposed to be a prequel, and as far as we were aware post-Avengers: Infinity War, Vision was, well, very dead. Dead as a doornail. Gone before The Snap and therefore quite lost. Rip to a real one, etc.
During the closing stages of Infinity War, the Avengers – along with T’Challa and the Wakandan armies – had tried to mount a defense against the forces of Thanos while Shuri worked to extract the Mind Stone from Vision’s forehead, but she was unable to remove it before Thanos arrived.

Cookie cutter heroes are largely a thing of the past, with modern audiences wanting a little more to chew on in their protagonists than a simple good guy who usually does the right thing, no questions asked. As the most successful franchise in history, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is always going to be driven by characters with good intentions, but shades of grey and some depth never hurt anyone.
Captain America is about as clean cut as they come, but he was still a man out of time pining for the love of his life and constantly feeling undermined by superiors he was increasingly distrustful of. Tony Stark, meanwhile, went out of his way to keep trying to protect the world but always somehow found a way to make things worse, while Thor has seen his parents, brother, friends and entire homeworld wiped out.
However, nobody in the McU comes...

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7 went out on a high note, revisiting some of its greatest hits and promising a happy ending for the majority of its characters.
For a show that was a spin-off of one of the most successful film franchises of all time, the expectations were high from the start.
Thankfully they were able to cement their worthiness as a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, proven by the victory lap they took us on this final season. From Hydra to the Quantum Realm, it's a season we won't soon forget.

Disney Plus’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV series is set to see Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson take on the mantle of Captain America, but it seems the situation will be flipped in the comics. Marvel’s Falcon & Winter Soldier title, created to loosely tie into the upcoming McU show, will continue later this year. And the newly released cover for issue #3 reveals that James Buchanan Barnes will be suiting up again as the Sentinel of Liberty.
Dan Mora’s cover for Derek Landy and Federico Vincentini’s comic (seen below) sees Sam and Bucky getting the jump on mentor Steve Rogers from behind. It’s a shocking tableau, but it’s hard to say whether this set-up is to be taken literally or not.
What the synopsis tells us is that the original Cap will have a strong presence in the issue, as the partners in crime-fighting...

The Arsenio Hall Show has been renewed for a second season.
Justin Hartley has joined the cast of the ABC comedy pilot Damaged Goods. The pilot, from Awkward. creator Lauren Iungerich, is a relationship comedy about two damaged men and two damaged women with Hartley playing a man who can’t handle his girlfriend getting the promotion he was pursuing. I think I prefer to see him playing a guy who is dating an tech billionaire with a vengeful pal.

The old school monster movie community has lost another of its own as Don Barton, director of the funky 70s horror classic Zaat, has passed on. Read on for details.
The news came from the official Zaat Facebook page, which posted the following message...
"It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Zaat director Don Barton today, Saturday, June 8, at the age of 84 following several months of declining health. Don was a loving husband, father of nine children, and grandfather of many more. He was a dear friend, a partner, and a businessman who was loved by many and liked by almost everyone. Ironically his passing came on the same day as a screening of his feature film Zaat (1971) at Marineland as part of their 75th anniversary celebration and he was there with us in spirit tonight. It was an honor and a privilege to have known...

Sad news from Spain. Legendary director Jesús Franco Manera, aka Jess Franco, aka Clifford Brown and a couple dozen more pseudonyms, often took from the names of the American jazz musicians he so admired, has died at the age of 82. Franco suffered a stroke last week from which he couldn’t recover.
His Erotic Rites Of Frankenstein featured a shrieking, silver-skinned Frankenstein’s monster relentlessly whipping a man and a woman tied together over a bed of spikes. It was but one of countless sublime images from the output of the most prolific Exploitation director of all-time (yes, that includes Corman). With a repertoire of over 200 titles, Franco enriched the world of Eurohorror/Exploitation by writing, directing, and scoring a vast variety of films, including masterpieces such as Female Vampire, Count Dracula, Faceless, Night Of The Bloody Judge, Eugenie De Sade, and Venus In Furs, an epic amount of art,...

I remember when I was in college, I visited New York City and one of the things on my to-do list was to watch an episode of The Robin Byrd Show, the famous local-access show that was parodied on SNL. I wanted to know everything about being a “Real” New Yorker, and apparently, watching this show was an important piece of that puzzle. But to all of you aspiring New Yorkers, let me advise you, don’t be like me. Late night cable access is not where it’s at anymore. What makes you a true New Yorker is an obsessive knowledge of our local commercials. Our local cable station, NY1 (and its glorious morning anchor Pat Kiernan) do a great job of running some real classics, and we’ve picked our favorites through the years so you can get acquainted with what to expect when you move into your...

As we reported previously, Zaat hit the market in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack this past February 21st, and while we're still scratching our heads about that a bit, Trembles saw fit to do an Mpp review for the flick.
Synopsis:
In Zaat (also known as The Blood Waters of Dr. Z), an obsessed scientist, Dr. Kurt Leopold (Marshall Grauer) – who has been scorned by his peers – is convinced he can transform humans into fish. In his isolated backwoods laboratory, he proves his hypothesis by turning himself into a horrible, vengeful creature (played by Wade Popwell) that is part man, part walking catfish!
Armed with his mutagenic chemical compound, Zaat, the monster is bent on revenge, determined to turn the tables on humanity by making his fishy friends the dominant species on Earth. All that stands in his way are a small town sheriff (Paul Galloway), a dedicated young biologist...

Described as a "Sought after 70's Cult Classic" making it's first High Definition appearance on DVD and Blu-ray, I was a bit surprised that I didn't know anything about Zaat. But, as I started watching the film, I realized I had seen it on Mystery Science Theater 3000 under its alternate title, The Blood Waters of Dr. Z. As the residents of the Satellite of Love felt it was worthy of lampooning, I'm sure most genre fans are wondering why Zaat got the Hi-Def treatment rather than some other, more deserving movie. But you should watch the actual film, as it's a perfect example of "gleefully stupid" cinema (I wrote that in my notes on the film), a movie that shouldn't work,...

The cult classic Zaat (Aka The Blood Waters of Dr. Z) is inexplicably making its way to Blu-ray this month from Film Chest Inc and Cultra. Don Barton’s bizarre creature feature from 1971 highlights the escapades of wacko marine biologist Dr. Leopold (Marshall Grauer) who turns himself into a giant catfish. Alternately hunting down his former colleagues and abducting bikini-clad women to breed with (almost a decade before Humanoids from the Deep), Zaat wreaks havoc (sometimes wearing sneakers) throughout the hippie-filled beaches of Jacksonville, Florida.
This low budget drive-in staple, a hit upon its original release, has a long and troubled video history with multiple edits existing under several alternate titles. Who wouldn’t want to see a monster fish movie called Zaat? Notoriously terrible, the film (in one of its many truncated versions) was skewered on MST3000 and was recently presented in an uncut version on TCM. The film has developed a small,...

A scaly sea creature gets to know the local in the 1972 cult horror favorite Zaat.
The cheesy 1972 monster movie Zaat became a cult favorite when it was mercilessly skewered on TV’s Mystery Science Theater 3000 in 1999. But now the movie is ready to be taken seriously!
Co-written, directed by and produced by Jacksonville, Fl., resident Don Barton for $75,000 back in 1970, Zaat tells the story of a ridiculed scientist, Dr. Kurt Leopold (Marshall Grauer), who is convinced he can transform humans into fish. In his isolated backwoods laboratory, he proves his hypothesis by turning himself into a horrible, vengeful creature (played by Wade Popwell) that is part man, part walking catfish … and all idiotic!

And here I thought that story I wrote a few weeks back about a Giant Spider Invasion musical was the most unlikely Seventies b-movie reboot news of the year. Now comes word that the 1971 catfish-man flick Zaat is getting the DVD/Blu-ray treatment (not surprising), and a sequel is in the works (very surprising).

Presumably due to the alleged post-Avatar fame factor of Zoe Saldana, this 2006 movie has just hit selected theaters in the United States. Certainly, there can be no other reason for any distributor (in this case, Freestyle Releasing, who also brought us Dragon Wars, The Collector, and I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell) to invest in what plays like a student film out of Tisch by some spoiled undergrad whose parents unquestioningly paid full tuition just to keep their kid out of their basement. As such, The Heart Specialist appears to be inspired by hospital-based television dramedy, but production values are exceedingly low to the point that this crap would never even make it onto daytime television. While a bare-bones approach isn't unusual for a small-budget labor of love, this movie doesn't even bother with opening titles, so the shift from opening previews to the actual movie is rather...

The Heart Specialist is a likeable and sincere comedy centered around the friendship of two doctors. Arriving from Boston with a nearly-minted heartbreak and an embarrassing pin-up calendar spread, Ray “Glucose Ray” Howard (Brian White) is finishing his residency as an on-call intern at a Southern Florida Hmo run hospital that is less prestigious than his medical school, which, of course, is Harvard. He is befriended and shown the ropes by Dr. Sidney Zachary (Wood Harris), who instills a level of compassion in Ray, which he would be impossible to learn from the business model of Dr. Z’s supervisor, Dr. Graves (Scott Pauline) pushes.
This film arrives in theaters with a double dose of bad luck: January is considered a dumping ground to supplement the Oscar contenders of the previous year, still hanging around in theaters. It also doesn’t help The Heart Specialist carries a copyright date of...

Alberta - Spring is here and truth shall be in the air around Durham, North Carolina as the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival blossoms from April 8 - 11. It's not a huge list of home video releases this week, but some pretty huge films are on it, including The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which is getting a midnight release this Saturday morning, March 20th. But we know that's not what you're here for -- more than likely you'll be picking up flicks like The Fourth Kind, Park Chan-wook's Vengeance Trilogy, and/or (our pick of the week) Ninja Assassin.
The most offbeat entry is definitely Blurred Realities, another trilogy, but this time only one is true horror: American Zombie, a documentary about high-functioning zombies living in Los Angeles and their struggles to gain acceptance in human society. The other two parts of the trio are The Hole Story and American Shopper, both of which are also pseudo-docs about a "black hole" that opens up on the surface of North Long Lake in Minnesota and one man's passionate and...

This week's episode of The Venture Bros. was the closest thing we could ever describe as a star-studded aventure for this amazing show on Adult Swim.
The episode, "Self-Medication," featured Seth Green, John Hodgman, and Patton Oswalt as a group of fellow boy adventurers attending a self-help group with Dr. Venture to get over their childhood trauma. These voice actors all did an amazing job leading to a very succesful storyline.
Unfortunately, the B Story belong to Sgt. Hatred and it focused on his pedophilia as usual. We thought the Henchmen, Hank and Dean were all amazing in this story. But really, do we need half an episode devoted to pedophile jokes and Hank dressed as Princesss Tinyfeet? So not cool.
We absolutely loved the main storyline and character development of this episode and it could have been one of our favorites of the season if not brought down by Hatred.
