Bradley Cooper may have lost to others in his latest Oscar nominations once again, but he still might take another statuette home this year. The actor had a brief cameo role in ABC’s mockumentary sitcom Abbott Elementary appearing in the third season’s episode 6 titled Willard R. Abbott.
The episode was ironically released on March 10, the same day that the Oscar ceremony took place, and now it seems like Cooper is still striving for any kind of award that has something to do with that memorable date.
Given that the actor’s screen time in the episode was quite limited and had an overall run of less than 2 minutes, some may wonder whether it’s even possible to submit something like this for a Primetime Emmy nomination, especially after the Television Academy changed the rules earlier this year.

NBCUniversal may have kicked off TV’s upfront week with the Wicked trailer, Snoop Dogg, and adorable penguins, but it closed Monday with a more dedicated pitch to one of its marquee divisions: It’s Spanish-language business Telemundo.
Held inside The Shed’s eight-story glass-encased McCourt space, Telemundo focused its tight presentation on its recent ratings wins over arch-rival TelevisaUnivision, with some not so subtle jabs at its competitor.
“We constantly change and give our audiences what they want, while others continue to do the same thing, night after night, week after week, year after year,” Telemundo’s new chairman, Luis Fernandez, told the crowd.
“We are known for being innovators, and filling the void of content to represent Latinos from all walks of life,” added Cesar Conde, the head of the NBCU News Group who also oversees Telemundo. “No other media company can do that because we are the...

The only person who believed in David Bowie’s vision of “Young Americans” more than Bowie himself was David Sanborn. The saxophonist, who was trained in jazz, had broken into the pop world as a member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and by guesting on Stevie Wonder’s Talking Book. Sanborn, who died Sunday, was in his late 20s when he linked up with Bowie for the Diamond Dogs Tour — he’s featured on the David Live double-album — and joined him in the studio for the recording of Bowie...

Tina Fey, the American actress known for “Saturday Night Live,” “Mean Girls,” “30 Rock,” and “Date Night,” stands at 5 feet 4 ½ inches (163.8 cm). This information comes directly from Fey, who corrected a common misconception about her height in an interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer, saying, “The Internet says I’m 5-foot-2. And I’m 5-4 and a half.”
She also mentioned her height in Glam in 2008. For context, the average American woman is around 5 feet 4 inches (162.5 cm). Therefore, Fey’s height is just slightly above this average, aligning her closely with the height of many American women.

Hannah Einbinder, the stand-up comedian and twice Emmy-nominated and twice Golden Globe-nominated star of Max’s Hacks, is the guest on this week’s episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which was recorded in front of an audience at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, from which Einbinder herself graduated in 2017.
Over the course of the conversation, the 28-year-old reflects on growing up as the daughter of funny people (her mother, Laraine Newman, was a member of the original Saturday Night Live cast, and her father is Chad Einbinder, a comedy writer and director); how she was changed by going on and then — just as she was getting into stand-up comedy — getting off of Adderall; and, as her first-ever acting gig, landing the role of comedy writer Ava opposite the legendary Jean Smart’s Deborah on Hacks, which is now rolling out its third season.

Bradley Cooper, who has 12 Oscar nominations, might soon add his first Primetime Emmy nod to his resume for playing himself on ABC‘s “Abbott Elementary.” ABC and awards strategists confirm to Variety that the studio has submitted the actor for guest comedy actor consideration for this year’s awards.
Earlier this year, the Television Academy changed the rules for submitting in the guest acting categories, stating, “A brief cameo appearance is not eligible for entry.” However, the vague description doesn’t explicitly state whether an actor like Cooper or even Kevin Hart, who appeared in last week’s episode playing himself over a Facetime call with Jeanine Teagues (Quinta Brunson), would constitute a cameo.
The rules further clarify the definition of a guest performer: “The minimum stand-alone and contiguous screen time for eligibility is 5% of the total running time of the submitted episode.”

is a confection of a show. That’s likely why it avoids any mention of the pandemic during its easy, breezy and very beautiful second season. However, even Emily in Paris couldn’t avoid one of the biggest trends of the lockdown era: Peloton, the at-home exercise bike so ubiquitous it inspired an unforgettable Saturday Night Live sketch. Sad news to report this afternoon. Renowned jazz saxophonist died yesterday at age 78 after a long battle with prostate cancer.
The six-time Grammy winner performed with a galaxy of stars over the years, including artists like David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, and Paul Simon, but he was also a regular face in some of the biggest house bands in late night—and then on his own show.
He got his start in late night in 1979 when he joined the Saturday Night Live band for its fifth season. When Paul Simon and James Taylor were tapped to co-host an episode that season, Sanborn served as a standalone musical guest—the only time an SNL band member has done so.
Following his time in Studio 8H, Sanborn could frequently be seen on another NBC late-night show.

Seth Meyers has got plenty more “A Closer Look”s coming. The SNL star-turned-late-night-talk-show-host has signed on to stay seated behind the desk of NBC’s Late Night through 2028.
NBCUniversal just announced the show’s renewal, alongside news that Meyers’ production company, Sethmaker Shoemeyers, has also extended its contract to continue creating content across the network’s many platforms.
Meyers has spent the bulk of his career working within 30 Rock. The comedian joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2001, and was promoted to writing supervisor four years later. In 2005, Meyers began serving as SNL’s co-head writer alongside Tina Fey and Andrew Steele. When Fey departed the legendary sketch series in 2006, he took over her spot on “Weekend Update” and served as the show’s sole head writer for the next season.

Maya Rudolph continued a subtle tradition of paying tribute to her late mother on Saturday Night Live this past weekend.
In an episode that highlighted moms with multiple Mother’s Day sketches, Rudolph used one of the show’s commercial bumpers to recreate a photograph of her own mom, soul singer Minnie Riperton.
Rudolph has made a point to honor mother, who passed away in 1979 when Rudolph was only 6 years old, each time she has hosted SNL. When she first hosted in 2012, Rudolph posed in overalls holding an ice cream cone as it dripped down her hand, matching the album cover of Riperton’s “Perfect Angel.“
In her 2021 episode, Rudolph was depicted against a blue background haloed by flowers, invoking the artwork of Riperton’s third album, “Adventures in Paradise.” Rudolph’s most recent bumper, again depicting Rudolph crowned by flowers, recreates another photo from that record’s artwork.

NBCUniversal showed major love for its film division, primarily the highly anticipated Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-led “Wicked,” during its 2024 upfront presentation Monday in New York.
While not the traditional venue for touting upcoming movies — as this week is all about wooing Madison Avenue to shell out big bucks for prime ad placement on TV — with film chief-turned-overall content boss Donna Langley on stage for her first upfront, the move was a natural moment for synergy.
Langley teed up a new trailer for “Wicked,” a treat just for those attending the presentation at Radio City Music Hall, and promised it will drop wide later this week.

Will Forte — who stars in the new series Bodkin, which premiered May 9 on Netflix — specializes in playing characters that lead lives of quiet and, frankly, aggressive desperation. In one of his best sketches during his tenure on Saturday Night Live, he played a nervous spelling bee contestant who spells the word “business” with multiple Qs. His appearances as Will Grello on Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! produced some of the greatest comedy about the lingering effects of child abuse. (“Dogs should be raw! And living!” he exclaims after explaining how his father made him cook his pet.)...

Exclusive: Fox is tripling down on The Floor.
The network has handed the Rob Lowe-hosted game show a second and third season after its first season performed well for the network and was spoofed on Saturday Night Live.
The news comes ahead of Fox’s Upfront, which is being held in New York tomorrow.
The show, which Deadline revealed had landed at Fox last June, premiered on January 2. It ran for ten episodes through to the end of February.
The network said that the premiere episode amassed 4.4M multi-platform viewers after seven days of viewing, per Nielsen data, which is a 73% boost from the 2.5M that tuned in same-day, making it the network’s most-streamed game show ever and the network’s most-watched Tuesday unscripted debut in more than 13 years, since Masterchef premiered in 2010. Former Saturday Night Live cast member Maya Rudolph became a three-time host on May 11, almost five months after she appeared for five minutes in an episode headlined by Kate McKinnon. Her screen time in this case exceeded 21 minutes, or just over one-third of the episode’s running time.
Scroll down to see how Rudolph stacked up against each of the show’s named performers, including all three members of Vampire Weekend. Note that our screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count. Screen time in the show’s opening credits, bumpers and goodnights are not included, nor do those portions factor into our assessment of the episode’s total running time.
Maya Rudolph – 21:21 / 33.50%
Since stepping down as an SNL regular in 2007, Rudolph has returned to the show 27 times.

Vampire Weekend appeared as the musical guest on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live.
The trio delivered polished renditions of “Gen X Cops” and “Capricorn,” two songs from their latest album, Only God Was Above Us. Seated center-stage with a piano, vocalist Ezra Koenig carried the rising and falling melody of “Gen X Cops,” performing the lyrics with a look of urgency in his eyes.

For the second song, “Capricorn,” Koenig donned a parlor guitar, and a small string section providing the driving engine on the verses. On the choruses, a growling guitar line entered, coloring the arrangement with its distorted wail. Watch both performances below.

For her third round of hosting duties on “Saturday Night Live,” “Mother” Maya Rudolph did not disappoint. Having been a cast member from 2000 to 2007, Rudolph is well acquainted with that 30 Rock stage, and has played a litany of memorable characters. In honor of Mother’s Day, current “SNL” cast-mates Sarah Sherman and Bowen Yang joined Rudolph onstage to honor her legacy and declare her a true “Moth-errr”.
“You’re a 30 Rock legend,” Sherman said. “You’ve had your foot on our necks since Y2K.”
Rudolph was disbelieving of this praise at first, but Yang quickly interjected to second Sherman’s claim.
“You were the first to slay the house down boots queen!” he exclaimed to Rudolph.
“You have achieved extra-terrestrial mother status!” said Sherman.
“Me? Mother?” questioned Rudolph. “You’re right.”

Reboots, as the past few years have shown, are beloved by the TV business. This week’s makeover centers on the upfronts, a decades-old industry ritual revitalized by a new push into streaming ads.
Fabled New York venues like Radio City Musical Hall and Lincoln Center will once again play host, and a conga line of talent will take the stages, in stark contrast with the strike-afflicted 2023 edition. As the ad business crawls toward a recovery, there are more in-person presentations – eight, up from six a year ago, filling the Monday-to-Wednesday schedule – including the debuts of Netflix and Amazon. (See full schedule below.)
After the Zoom doom loop of Covid, this year’s extravaganzas are sure to feel particularly festive. And the entry of major tech companies, including YouTube, whose Brandcast will cap off the week, will add considerable buzz. But is all of the exuberance a little irrational given...

They say comedians can shift to dramatic acting relatively easily because making something funny is harder than making it sad, so if you’re in comedy, you’ve clearly got the chops. For Ana Gasteyer, add “making it creepy” to the resume because her stint on Celebrity Ghost Stories is one of its best, partly due to her somber delivery. It’s as unnerving as when Grandma yells at you and when the funky church medley lady from Saturday Night Live gets serious, you pay attention.
And why are we paying attention to a cable TV show from 2011? Kristen and Will of Bloody FM’s Guide to the Unknown discovered that all of Celebrity Ghost Stories is available on YouTube now, leading them to make episodes covering these stories a recurring fave. Are ghosts real? Eh…ya know. Does talking about ghosts rule? We’re swimming in affirmative proof.

Following a week dominated by resurfaced revelations about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s brain worm, the parasite itself made a guest appearance during Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update.
The worm — played by Sarah Sherman — first talked about what drew it to Rfk Jr.’s brain. “Look at this guy, what worm wouldn’t love this? He looks like a pack of chicken thighs got left out in the sun,” it said. “Then check out his face: He looks like someone left Bruce Springsteen in the microwave for too long.

Maya Rudolph and Kenan Thompson reprised two characters they first performed on Saturday Night Live nearly 20 years ago in a cut-for-time sketch from this week’s episode.
It was back in 2005 that SNL viewers were first introduced to ’70s soul singers T.T. and Mario in a commercial parody for a greatest hits compilation featuring the musical duo singing about weirdly explicit sex acts.
In the new sketch, which was performed at Saturday night’s dress rehearsal and posted to SNL‘s YouTube channel early Sunday morning, the duo is still at it two decades later, although the tone of their songs would seem to befit the lifestyle of a now long-married couple.
“I spent all day cooking for you, a sexy home-cooked meal,” Mario sings. “Beef enchiladas, Lamb Vindaloo and a giant loaf of sourdough.”
“Thank you for the delicious food.

Come on: admit it. Your money was on Saturday Night Live opening with Stormy Daniels spanking a satin-pajama-ed Donald Trump with a copy of Forbes magazine.
No more guaranteed big-laugh comedy scene could be delivered to the writers’ room if it arrived on a Lake Tahoe hotel dining cart.
But no. The show’s producers and writers wanted no part of that, deciding instead that the country needed a total respite, something to take their minds off things like no end in sight to brutal violence in Gaza, that criminal trial of a former President/candidate over sex with a porn star, and the news that another candidate’s brain was eaten by worms.
Sure they could have found a few laughs in some of that—and they did, but only for Update. For the rest of the show, the answer was go silly and go silly big.

Of course Maya Rudolph brought her Beyoncé impression back to Saturday Night Live this week… and of course she had to go back on Hot Ones.
Rudolph once again played the pop icon during her SNL hosting gig this week and tried to eat more painfully hot chicken wings as a guest on the talk show Hot Ones. (Rudolph’s Beyoncé previously visited Hot Ones in a March 2021 SNL sketch.) This time, Beyoncé — decked out in full Cowboy Carter gear with a cowboy hat — let host Sean Evans (played by Mikey Day) know right away: “It’s a pleasure for you to have me.

Maya Rudolph brought Beyoncé back to “Saturday Night Live,” reprising her impression to give Queen B another shot at the spicy chicken wing talk show “Hot Ones.”
Opposite Mikey Day’s take on host Sean Evans, Beyoncé returns for the challenging YouTube interview segment, cocky about eating the wings until they become uncomfortably hot. As things get more unbearable, she has increasingly difficult instructions for her assistant, played by Kenan Thompson.
“This wing is stompin’ my ass,” she says at one point. “Damn, my bones are hot. That wing was a real one. Ooh, you’re ’bout to make me sing — This ain’t Texas!”
Beyond the “Texas Hold ‘Em” nod, a highlight was Kenan enthusiastically squirting Beyoncé’s “$6,000 cocoa lotion” into her mouth to soothe the heat, a masterclass in bizarre physical humor.

There’s only one major Marvel movie coming out this year, and Scarlett Johansson’s husband was decidedly not pleased about that on this week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live.” So, he made sure to give the studio a stern warning during Weekend Update.
Yes, obviously we’re talking about co-anchor Colin Jost. He and Johansson — who starred as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the MCU — have been married since 2020 and share a son together. But, providing for the family wasn’t the issue Jost had in mind. He was thinking of another bill entirely.

Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” segment leaned into the brain worm that U.S. presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said got into his head.

“Rfk’s body was a worm’s paradise,” Sherman said as the brain worm. “Not a single drop of vaccine in sight. My whole parasite posse hung out in there. Shoutout to hookworm… that fish that swims up your pee stream and my man, Tom Sandoval.”

“Rfk’s body was a worm’s paradise,” Sherman said as the brain worm. “Not a single drop of vaccine in sight. My whole parasite posse hung out in there. Shoutout to hookworm… that fish that swims up your pee stream and my man, Tom Sandoval.”

Maya Rudolph is back as host of NBC’s Saturday Night Live and she’s doing what she does best—imitating Queen Beyoncé.
In her best “Texas Hold Em” ensemble, Rudolph appeared in a sketch as the multi-Grammy Award-winning artist on her second visit to the popular YouTube chat series Hot Ones, where celebrities eat spicy hot wings while being interviewed. Her first time in a Hot Ones sketch was three years ago.
“Giddy up, let’s go,” she tells Sean Evans (Mikey Day) as she prepares to sample some of the spiciest sauces she’s ever had. After her first taste, she says, “That’s a tasty wing and it’s not that spicy. I’m from Texas, baby. Your girl likes it caliente.”
Famous last words because she literally goes cross-eyes after her second sauce taste. She struggles to confirm she’s doing alright and wants to carry on,...

It was all about mothers at the top of this week’s pre-Mother’s Day Saturday Night Live.
The variety show dispensed with its typical topical cold open for one that featured SNL castmembers sharing moments with their moms.
Kenan Thompson kicked off the show, appearing on the Studio 8H stage with his mom because, he said, “it’s “Mother’s Day in about 29 minutes,” which, she declared, meant there was still “plenty of time to buy a gift.”
“With so many upsetting stories in the world right now, we thought we’d take a break from a regular cold open and hear some heartwarming stories from our moms instead.”
Still Thompson’s mom said she wanted to see who would play Stormy Daniels in a cold open focused on the porn star’s testimony in former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial. That wasn’t the only reference to...

Saturday Night Live celebrated Mother’s Day by declaring what we already knew: Maya Rudolph is mother.
In her monologue to kick off this week’s SNL, the former cast member admitted that hosting the episode before Mother’s Day is a special honor because she has four kids of her own. Then Bowen Yang and Sarah Sherman came out to tell her: “You’re not just a mom. You’re mother.” In fact, she has “achieved extraterrestrial mother status,” they raved, and Rudolph just laughed it off before getting deadly serious: “You’re right.” That kicked off a glamorous,...

Maya Rudolph opened the Mother’s Day episode of “Saturday Night Live” with a tribute to mothers — in every sense of the term.
Hosting the sketch show’s penultimate episode of the season, Rudolph began her monologue by noting she’s a four-time mom herself. “But Maya, look — you’re not just a mom,” cast member Bowen Yang reminded her. “You’re mother,” invoking the term’s use in queer slang to describe powerful, aspirational women. “You were the first to slay the house down boots, queen!”
“Who me, mother?” Rudolph asked, feigning shock. “You’re right!” The host then launched into a propulsive dance number, strutting through Studio 8H — also known as “House of Rockefeller” — in a reflective bodysuit while delivering lyrics like “Oops, I made you dance / Remember in that movie when I pooped my pants?” Other lines played on the many meanings of “mother”: “Who’s...
