Drylongso (Cauleen Smith)
Writer-director Cauleen Smith made Drylongso when she was in college, 25 years ago, premiering at Sundance in 1998. The “Hello” singer took the stage on Monday at the massive New York City venue — for the postponed concert that was supposed to be held on Saturday — and explained why he had been forced to cancel the previously scheduled show.

On Saturday, the 74-year-old “All Night Long” singer was booked to perform alongside Earth, Wind & Fire, however, the event was cancelled and rescheduled for Aug. 14 after fans had already filled the venue.
At 8:30 p.m., Richie took to X/Twitter to announce the show would not go on and shared, “Due to severe weather and being unable to land in the NY and surrounding areas, I’m unable to make it to the show tonight.

Lucha Underground has returned tonight on El Rey Network for their Mid-Season Premiere. Tonight's episode saw Lucha Underground Champion Johnny Mundo face off against challenger The Mack in an All Night Long match.
What is an All Night Long match you may be asking? Simple. It's an Iron Man match taking place during the run time for the episode. Iron Man matches are tough to pull off. In the days where the audience was not exactly aware of the fact that what they were seeing was entertainment, pulling off hour long matches would be the norm. The biggest wrestling organization until Vince McMahon came along was the National Wrestling Alliance. Entertainment Weekly has an interview with Lynda Carter talking about her career. Discussing Carter's history with Wonder Woman, dating back to the television show from the 70's, to her singing career, and her thoughts of the character today, Lynda had a lot of interesting things to say.
One part of the interview mentions conversations Carter had with the director of the new Wonder Woman film, Patty Jenkins.
Carter: Over a period of quite a few months, we talked on the phone. It really was [about] why I thought my portrayal worked, why it lived, what my intentions were from the beginning about the character. We were so much on the same page of the interpretation of what embodies this character. [Wonder Woman is] not thinking she’s all that. She’s powerful, but…She’s sensitive.
Right.
Wonder Woman is the one film DC cannot fail with. I really want this film to succeed.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune has an interesting article from their former movie critic discussing why he panned the original Star Wars when it first came out forty years ago and why he stands by his review today. Discussing the movie, he stated it had a silly plot, terrible dialogue, yet had great special effects. He also stands by his praise of Carrie Fisher's performance, calling her a take charge character that was a "sort of precursor" to feminism. The critic, Bob Lundegaard, had this to say.
Of course I had no idea it would become one of the most successful movies ever, spawning sequels and video games and T-shirts that collectively have grossed more than $42 billion dollars. Who knew? But critics can be stubborn. I stand behind my original assessment, which essentially was “don’t bring your brains with you,” but “your kids will love it.” Mine certainly did,...

Ryan Gosling showcased some sweet dance moves in La La Land and as many of his fans are well aware, he has been a dance master since he was a little kid. The 36-year-old star was put into an awkward situation on The Graham Norton Show. During his interview, which also featured his La La Land co-star Emma Stone and Live by Night stars Ben Affleck and Sienna Miller, a particularly spectacular video of a young Gosling performing was screened. The clip, which shows him and several girls dancing to a remix of Cathy Dennis' 1990 pop hit "Touch Me (All Night Long)" at a talent show, had gone viral in 2015. The actor later parodied it...

A video posted by Beyoncé (@beyonce) on Aug 25, 2016 at 9:52am Pdt Thursday marks 15 years since Aaliyah was tragically killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas, and the late singer's good friend, Beyoncé, honored her memory in a very sweet, very simple way. The "All Night Long" singer took to Instagram to post a short video of the pair having fun at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards in Culver City, CA. In the clip, a bubbly Beyoncé asks Aaliyah who she's looking forward to seeing during the show. "I wanna see D'Angelo perform," she said, to which Beyoncé hilariously replied, "Girl, I'm with ya, cause you know he fine!" The sweet moment came just a little over a year before Aaliyah was killed. After filming her music video for "Rock the Boat" on the Abaco Islands, the 22-year-old boarded a plane to return to Florida, but it crashed shortly after takeoff,...

Country quartet Little Big Town opened the two-hour telecast with a Gospel-tinged jam produced by pop-r&B mastermind Pharrell Williams. CeeLo Green and finalist Hannah Huston recreated “Crazy” — with backing from a mariachi band. There was an entire segment devoted to Christina Aguilera’s love of Snapchat. Italians certainly do worship their Mammas, or so goes the narrative of Marco Bellocchio’s Sweet Dreams, which opened the Cannes Director’s Fortnight sidebar tonight. It’s the second film in less than a year from the veteran Italian director and is the slighter of the two. Blood of My Blood (which premiered in Venice last Fall) spanned centuries and genres while leaning on two of the great themes of Italian cinema: the church and the mob. Sweet Dreams is a little long and overly nostalgic at times, but it’s authentic to the last and, rather neatly, it focuses on that third great theme: the matriarch.
Based on the bestselling 2012 biographical novel by Massimo Gramellini — the Turin-born journalist and current deputy director of Italian rag La Stampa — Sweet Dreams offers a sweetly sentimental and fluidly cinematic memoir of the writer’s life, from his time as a young...

It's a good thing the all-star tribute to Lionel Richie was performed early on at the Grammy Awards. Considering the number of similar salutes to recently deceased performers that followed, it wouldn't have been surprising to see Richie checking his pulse to make sure he was still alive. After a medley of his hits performed by John Legend, Demi Lovato, Luke Bryan, Meghan Trainor and Tyrese, Richie, who could be seen singing along from his seat in the audience, finally jumped onstage and took the lead vocal on "All Night Long." Danish landmine drama continues winning streak with $118,000 award; doc winner is Don Juan and audience prizes go to Welcome To Norway! and The Second Mother.
Danish director Martin Zandvliet’s Land Of Mine continued its hot streak by winning one of the world’s most lucrative film festival prizes, Goteborg’s Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film.
The prize comes with $118,000 (Sek 1m), financed by Volvo Car Group, Region Västra Götaland and the City Council of Gothenburg.
Zandvliet and producer Mikael Rieks, who had a day earlier won Rotterdam’s audience award, were on hand to collect the honour on Saturday night in Goteborg.
Zandvliet said the prize was “the one you really want to win” and said such an award enabled “creative freedom.”
Rieks commented that the attention for the film also helped audiences learn about the subject matter, based on the true story of German teenagers forced to clear landmines in Denmark after World War II...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Grimm, Quantico, The Voice and The Big Bang Theory!
1 | Were you surprised to see that Transparent‘s Josh and Raquel had gotten back together? And how much time are we to believe has passed since Season 1?
2 | Hasn’t Grimm featured far grosser Wesen than the kind of beast Xavier is? So why does the gang seem so horrified by his looks?
3 | How will The Good Wife‘s Alicia spin out from Eli’s deleted voicemail confession?...

On a stormy evening, a married couple (Konkona Sen Sharma and Rittwik Chakraborty) on vacation takes refuge from the rain in a house filled with ruin and clutter. There they discover an old man (Anjan Dutt), alone, who makes them tea and kichdi and insists they stay for the night – in fact, he insists that the rain will not let up, and they will be unable to leave. What transpires is an evening filled with poetry and puzzles, magic, philosophy, and perhaps a little menace.

Omar Sharif in 'Doctor Zhivago.' Egyptian star Omar Sharif, 'The Karate Kid' producer Jerry Weintraub: Brief career recaps A little late in the game – and following the longish Theodore Bikel article posted yesterday – below are brief career recaps of a couple of film veterans who died in July 2015: actor Omar Sharif and producer Jerry Weintraub. A follow-up post will offer an overview of the career of peplum (sword-and-sandal movie) actor Jacques Sernas, whose passing earlier this month has been all but ignored by the myopic English-language media. Omar Sharif: Film career beginnings in North Africa The death of Egyptian film actor Omar Sharif at age 83 following a heart attack on July 10 would have been ignored by the English-language media (especially in the U.S.) as well had Sharif remained a star within the Arabic-speaking world. Surprising everyone, and maybe each other, the face-off between Common and John Legend on Spike's Lip Sync Battle included big hair and bigger clothes, as both performers transformed into classic stars.
Common came first, dressed as Lionel Richie to lip sync to "All Night Long (All Night)" – wearing the hair, that shirt, those pants. Not to be outdone, Legend put on a pair of pants himself with a spin as Mc Hammer on his "U Can't Touch This." .
Naturally, the audience loved it. Co-host (and Legend's supermodel wife) Chrissy Teigen loved it. Co-host LL Cool J said to Common, after,...

After John Legend and Common's emotional "Glory" performance at the Oscars, the two reunited on stage in a friendly lip-sync battle Thursday night. John and Common both brought their A-game dance moves as they battled it out in a two-part competition. Common chose The Jackson Five's "I Want You Back" as his first song, and then John, wearing grills, busted out a rap to Juvenile's "Slow Motion." At one point, John was having so much fun that he said, "I forgot I was in a competition, man. I was helping [Common] too much [by dancing along]." Watch the first part of the battle above, then check out their epic renditions of Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" and Mc Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" below.

Common and John Legend stepped into the arena known as Lip Sync Battle Thursday night, where only one of the artists would walk away with both an Academy Award and the Lsb championship belt.
Legend and Common found themselves following up Jimmy Fallon and the Rock's explosive premiere episode. And while the "Glory" duo might not have the comedic chops of the late night host and action star, the duo still provided the two best performances with a pair of impersonations: Common channeling Lionel Richie and Legend reenacting Mc Hammer.

Jimmy Fallon's Lip Sync Battle, a Spike spinoff of The Tonight Show's wildly popular segment where celebrities mime along to popular hits, premiered Thursday night with an epic showdown between Fallon and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. At stake: The championship Lsb belt.
The Rock, fresh off his fantastic turn as SNL host, opened things up with a spirited, albeit ridiculous, rendition of Taylor Swift's "Shake It Up," which Fallon followed with an unexpected choice: Harry Belafonte's calypso classic "Jump in the Line" (Aka the song that closes Beetlejuice). The first episode of Lip Sync Battle, the spin-off series based on Jimmy Fallon‘s hilarious Tonight Show segment, featured the Tonight Show host facing off against Furious 7 star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who declared their match as “the lip sync battle of all lip sync battles.” Accompanied by host of everything LL Cool J and color commentator/time filler Chrissy Teigen, each competing star “performs” two songs and the audience decides on the victor, who receives the coveted championship belt.
Johnson came out swinging (which, if you’ve seen his biceps, is nothing to mess with) by performing Taylor “Tay Tay” Swift‘s “Shake It Off.” While the superstar nailed a couple of things, including the giggle at the beginning of the tune, he missed a few cues.
