- Born Ingrid Marga Irene Lutz, she was a popular leading lady of the German cinema during the 1940s and 50s. The daughter of a dance instructor, she studied ballet at the German Opera House in Berlin and subsequently attended drama classes. Discovered for films at the age of 19, she was cast as the nominal female lead in Junge Herzen (1944) only a year later. Thereafter, she alternated supporting parts (often in romances or musicals where her talents as a dancer and singer came to the fore) with leads in minor farces like Die fünf Karnickel (1953) and Hurra - ein Junge! (1953). Her role as the showgirl Rita in the Heinz Rühmann comedy Das kann jedem passieren (1952) is often cited as her best film. Her final screen appearance was in Moonwolf (1959), an odd little melodrama with science fiction elements. A German-Finnish co-production, it was filmed in Lappland and starred Carl Möhner.
During the post-war era, Ingrid went on tour with the R.B.T. orchestra of Michael Jary who composed several swinging numbers for her (some were duets with Bully Buhlan ), subsequently released on vinyl by Polydor. The thrice-married actress passed away in relative obscurity at the age of 97 in November 2021 in the Bavarian town of Rottach-Egern. - Art Department
