Edward Lee Morgan was an American jazz trumpeter, known for helping establish the hard bop sub-genre. He famously played with John Coltrane and Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers before launching a solo career. His composition "The Sidewinder" was a crossover hit on the pop and R&B charts in 1964. His sessions as leader often included Henry 'Hank' Mobley and Wayne Shorter, and contributed to what's referred to as the 'classic' period of the Blue Note record label.
