Alison Sealy-Smith was born in Barbados, British West Indies [now Barbados]. She is known for X-Men '97 (2024) and X-Men: The Animated Series (1992).- Deidrie Henry, was born in Barbados an is an award-winning actor and musician and much, much more. She came to the U.S. with her family in the late 1970s.. As a student at Atlanta's Avondale High School, the range of her talents was already on display, as she excelled academically as well as in music, drama, athletics, cheer-leading, student government, and more. She had an extraordinary capacity to be competitive AND collaborative, fierce AND friendly. She was like a powerful bomb made out of peppermint-flavored glitter: complex, potent, surprising, utterly delightful. Henry initially set out to apply her talents and dreams as a commercial airline pilot. She earned her degree in aeronautical science and a pilot's license at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, in Florida, with plans of a career in the skies. However, she graduated just as her anticipated employer, Eastern Airlines, was in chaos and eventually folded. Henry poured herself into a series of opportunities in theatre, first in Atlanta and then based in New York, Oregon, Paris, and finally Los Angeles. In New York, among other things, she won the Backstage Bistro Award as the city's Outstanding Vocalist and Cabaret Debut for her Cabaret entitled "What a Day For a Daydream". In Oregon, among other things, she made a living performing Shakespeare, August Wilson, Chekhov, to name a few. In Paris, she sang in a cabaret, toured and recorded with an African Band, Yeou Terre Foulbe, among other things, she was in freakin' Paris (how dope is that?!?). Since moving to LA, in 2004, however, Henry has been busy, fulfilled, and thoroughly appreciated at the highest levels of her crafts, starring on stage and screen. From that base she has toured the country with award-winning shows and been cast in some of the most memorable television shows ever. On stage she has played lead roles in "Raisin in the Sun," "Streetcar Named Desire," "Yellowman," "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill," "The Ballad of Emmett Till," and many others. She has won multiple awards, including the LA Tony for Best Actress and the NAACP Image Award. She has also been honored with an Ovation Award, Backstage Garland Award and the Los Angeles Drama Critic Circle Award. Perhaps best of all, when she was recently cast as Billie Holiday, everyone just said, "That's gonna be awesome." And it was. If you've ever heard her sing, you'd understand. It takes a legend to be a legend. Deidrie brought Billie back to life. Her screen credits include MacGyver, Game of Silence, Criminal Minds, Justified, CSI, Bones, Ghost Whisperer, The Riches, Brothers and Sisters, E.R., Shark, Without A Trace, and NCIS. Also fun: you may know this brilliant, multi-talented, award-winning singer and actor and civil rights activist as "Annie," the longtime TV spokesperson for Popeye's Chicken. #myBHM

Alana Husband was born on 21 October 1984 in Bridgetown, Barbados. She is an actress, known for X2 (2003), Battlestar Galactica (2004) and Freddy vs. Jason (2003).- Eva was born in England in 1953. Few details are known of her early life or of her break into acting. Her biggest success on television was her role in Widows (1983) as Bella O'Reilly. After the show's successful first series a second was commissioned. She was replaced by Debbie Bishop after Eva sadly committed suicide.
Another role she was famed for was Corrine in Only Fools and Horses (1981). Her character was introduced in the episode 'Who's a Pretty Boy?' along with her screen husband, Denzil. She was a headstrong, if sharp-tongued, woman and nobody wanted to be in her bad books. Writer, John Sullivan, had planned to bring Corrine back into the show, seeing great potential in her character. But sadly this was never to be. Eva died on 14th February 1985 from a suspected drugs overdose. She was just 31 years of age. Any 'Only Fools and Horses' fan will know immediately who Corrine was. She may only have appeared in one episode, but her performance was strong enough to merit her a place in the show's history books. - Actor

New York-raised Doug E. Fresh, born Douglas Davis, got his initial notoriety for being the original human beat-box, inventing a method to imitate a drum machine using breath control through the teeth, lips, and gums. He had a string of hit singles with his then-partner Slick Rick in the early and mid-1980s, most notably on "The Show" and "La-Di-Da-Di" in 1985. A subsequent album, "Oh, My God," included guest stints from veteran jazz trumpeter Jimmy Owens and synthesizer player Bernard Wright. Fresh also released a 1988 follow-up album, "The World's Greatest Entertainer," and recorded an album in 1992 for M.C. Hammer's short-lived Capitol/EMI Records-distributed label, Bust It Records. After recording another album for Gee Street Records in the mid-1990s and appearing on many other artists' albums, Fresh disappeared for a few years. He has just resurfaced as a solo artist with a new release on a small independent label, but he remains an active force in hip-hop music, appearing as a guest artist on many records, to the present day.- Music Department

Wyndham Gittens was born on 7 February 1885 in Barbados, British West Indies [now Barbados]. He was a writer and director, known for Radio Patrol (1937), Forbidden Valley (1938) and The Three Musketeers (1933). He died on 18 June 1967 in Dunedin, Florida, USA.- Charles Clairmonte was born 26 October 1962 in Barbados. Thirty years ago when Charles Clairmonte took pro bodybuilding by storm, he was virtually unknown. With his aesthetic yet densely developed physique, he'd had great success in an inferior European organization. In 1993, not only did Clairmonte qualify for the Olympia, but he finished an eyeopening seventh. Then he completed one of the greatest 12-month turnarounds ever by winning four out of five European Grand Prix contests, including-get this-the English Grand Prix! That's right, one year after finishing last, behind nobodies, he was first, ahead of legends, including Flex Wheeler and Kevin Levrone (who were second and fifth, respectively, at the 1993 Olympia). He joined his countryman, Dorian Yates, in bodybuilding's upper echelon.
He stayed there for two more years. Although he never won another pro show, Clairmonte landed in the top three seven times in 1994 and 1995, including the 1995 Arnold Classic. His placings faded over the next two years as mass monsters dominated, and he competed for the final time in 1997 at age 34. Having quickly traveled full circle, his final hurrah was, appropriately, the English Grand Prix, where he was next to last, leaving observers to wonder if they had imagined how great he had been four years prior. But he was great.
He had one of the most proportional physiques of the era, including a chiseled slab of abs, and yet at six feet and a lean 245, he had enough mass to hang with Goliaths in the early '90s. As that decade progressed and size standards grew, he bowed out rather than try to pack on many more pounds. Clairmonte's pro career lasted a mere six years, but, with his four wins in the Fall of 1993, those years included one of the most stunning months of all time. - Actor

Originally playing mainly as a bowler, he was soon promoted up the batting order. In his 383 first-class matches, he scored over 28,000 runs and took over 1000 wickets, having spent time with South Australia and Nottinghamshire towards the end of his career. Sobers was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1975 for his services to cricket. He became a dual Barbadian-Australian citizen through marriage in 1980. Menelik Shabazz was an award-winning film director, producer, and writer. Born in St. John, Barbados in 1954, he arrived in the UK at age six.
From an early age, he watched mobile cinema in his village in Barbados, but didn't entertain the idea of making films until age 18. This was when he was introduced to the first portable video technology whilst studying at North London College. This revolutionary technology, the Sony port-a-pack, demystified filmmaking and made the filmmaking process accessible. He enrolled at the London International Film School.
Shabazz was best known for his acclaimed debut feature Burning an Illusion (1982), which won the Grand Prix at the Amien International Film Festival in 1982. The film also won the lead actress, Cassie Macfarlane, the Evening Standard Award for 'Promising Actress' (1982). Burning An Illusion was only the second feature film by a black director produced in the UK.
The film continues to be shown today on media courses at Universities and Colleges and has become a cult classic.- Camera and Electrical Department
