The official Primetime Emmys ceremony will air on Fox next Monday, January 15 with Anthony Anderson serving as host.
In Richardson’s nominated episode, “International Break,” Sam (Toheeb Jimoh) goes to his restaurant to find it empty, despite having a full slate of reservations for the night. After years of turning in memorable comedic performances, Sam Richardson is angling to nab his first career Emmy Award. He has the chance to do it this year with his nomination for Best Comedy Guest Actor for playing Ghanaian billionaire Edwin Akufo on the Apple TV hit, “Ted Lasso.”
Richardson’s nominated episode is “International Break.” Sam (Toheeb Jimoh) goes to his restaurant to find it empty, despite having a full slate of reservations for the night. Akufo reveals himself and shows that his grudge against Sam is still alive through constant belittling and insults. He tells Sam that he still plans on destroying his life by opening a better Nigerian restaurant nearby and that he kept Sam off the Nigerian national team by writing a substantial check to the country’s government in exchange for blacklisting Sam.

The cast of “Ted Lasso” was back together in New York over the weekend to participate in a panel discussion about Season 3 and the success of the award-winning ensemble.
Stars Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt, Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster, Jeremy Swift, Toheeb Jimoh, Cristo Fernandez, Kola Bokinni, Billy Harris, and James Lance appeared together at a special screening of the Season 3 finale for Screen Actors Guild members in New York City on Sunday night.
“For me, growing up loving shows like ‘Cheers’ for example – it always felt like a neat barometer that if you had a store that was the ‘Cheers’ store and that store sold a T-shirt with each character singularly on those shirts, each shirt would sell,” co-creator Sudeikis said during the event. “I wanted to be part of something that aspired to do that.”

The term “milking” is used to describe the exploitation of a certain thing to a shameless level. I prefer not to use the word when I’m writing an article about something, but Apple TV’s Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas has compelled me to do so. I am not a huge fan of Ted Lasso. For my personal taste, the megahit Apple TV show mostly comes off as saccharine-sweet. But the impact it has created on pop culture is undeniable. Naturally, from Apple TV’s perspective, milking something as celebrated as Ted Lasso makes sense in terms of business. But why not make a proper Christmas special instead of the staged extravaganza that Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas is? I mean, when you have the entire cast of Ted Lasso at your service, then why not make them play the parts they’re known for?
Instead of that,...

They’re young, ambitious and down to earth – and they’re beating public school stars to the prize roles
Young, privately educated British actors seemed to be cornering all the available parts a decade or so ago. And they were regularly criticised for ‘slumming it’ if they put on a ‘lower class’ accent to play a role.
Now the backlash, it seems, has arrived. A string of talented actors from more ordinary London backgrounds are leading the pack this summer, scooping up plaudits and leading roles. If you haven’t already clocked either Leo Woodall, Toheeb Jimoh or Harris Dickinson, each in their late 20s, then you haven’t been watching much. Unless, that is, you have been fooled by their extraordinary chameleon-like abilities.

In 2022, Nathan Lane became the sole record holder for most Best Comedy Guest Actor Emmy nominations (six) and then achieved his very first TV academy honor for his work on “Only Murders in the Building.” Having just earned another bid for the Hulu series, he could soon join six other two-time recipients of this award, including back-to-back champs Jay Thomas (“Murphy Brown”) and Mel Brooks (“Mad About You”). Although his chances are strong, he also faces the unique challenge of having to fend off a fellow former winner.
Seeking a bookend trophy of his own is “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” guest actor Luke Kirby, who was lauded for the same series in 2019. Lane is also involved in an immediate rematch with Sam Richardson (“Ted Lasso”) and faces fresh opposition from category newcomer Oliver Platt (“The Bear”) and Emmy first-timers Jon Bernthal (“The Bear”) and Pedro Pascal (“Saturday Night Live”).

Even with the institution of gender neutral categories in the acting and supporting acting fields, everything old is new again as the Seventh Annual Black Reel Television Awards (BoltsTV) announced the list of this year’s nominees for recognition. Two names were still returning favorites to the nominations field which also included one record-breaking repeat performance and one surprising new entrant to challenge them all.
The Best Man: The Final Chapters secured its place in Black Reel Award history, with eighteen nominations, the most by any program ever in a single year. The Final Chapters, the ground-breaking mini-series that brought back all of the actors from the previous two movies, also ushered showrunner Malcolm D. It’s the end of the road for “Ted Lasso” and AFC Richmond as it all came to life on the Apple TV+ comedy from Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Bill Lawrence.
Or is it?
Apple has stayed vague about whether it was the Emmy-winning series’ final outing, despite public, bittersweet sentiment from the cast and near-constant speculation since well before Season 3’s March premiere. As recently as the morning of the finale, titled “So Long, Farewell,” a publicist underscored to IndieWire that Season 3 had not been confirmed as final. Along with the episode, Apple is now streaming a six-minute, 38 second goodbye video from the cast.
Episode 312 itself ties up the season’s big questions (“arcs” is generous), with Ted (Sudeikis) on his way home, Nate (Nick Muhammed) back at Richmond, Roy (Brett Goldstein) taking over as team manager, Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) meeting a man and never having problems again,...

Spoiler Alert: This review contains spoilers from the series finale of “Ted Lasso,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
Here’s a scoop: There will be a fourth season of “Ted Lasso.” Actually, it has already aired, and it was not great.
“Ted Lasso” grew out a character created by Jason Sudekis and friends for NBC Premier League promos, a Kansas City-based football coach who somehow finds himself coaching the other football in London for AFC Richmond, a chronically downtrodden franchise. It’s a typical fish-out-of water premise, which is a classic comedy trope, but comes with some limitations — namely, when the fish becomes an amphibian and begins to love land life. Mindful of those constraints, “Lasso” debuted in 2020 to acclaim, with critics lauding its cock-eyed optimism as the world struggled with a deadly pandemic. Season 1’s 10 episodes ran an average of 30 minutes apiece, totaling 299 minutes for the season.

“Ted Lasso” wrapped up its acclaimed three-season run on Wednesday, as the Apple TV+ comedy took its final bow as AFC Richmond came so close to taking home the Premiere League Title, winding up second behind Manchester United in an appropriately humbling and hopeful conclusion to an honest and meaningful series.
It was a bittersweet episode, filled with the heartfelt speeches and emotional character development that fans have come to know and love from the two-time Emmy winner for Outstanding Comedy Series.
After the final game, it came time for the eponymous Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) to bid farewell to the team and town he’s come to love and return home to his son in the US. However, despite his departure, fans quickly got a chance to see the next stage in the lives of all the other beloved characters.

In the weeks leading up to the "Ted Lasso" finale, fans have been tracking down clues about the show's future (or lack thereof) like Trent Crimm chasing a story lead. Originally conceived as a three-season show, news of the series' imminent end was tempered by statements from its co-creators, hinting that the world of "Ted Lasso" might not be done yet. Even today, hours before the episode arrived, viewers were noting the use of the term "season finale" in the show's episode description. Could Ted and co. be back for more?
Now that we've seen "So Long, Farewell," it seems clear that the finale was as conclusive as its title would indicate -- for some characters. [This story contains spoilers from “So Long, Farewell,” the third season — and possible series — finale of Ted Lasso.]
All season long, the people who make Ted Lasso have been somewhat coy about whether the end of their planned three-season arc would mark the end of the series. Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence and others have said multiple times that this season would mark the end of what they set out to do, while never quite stating that it would definitively close out the series.
The last installment of season three, “So Long, Farewell,” played no such games. The episode felt every bit like a series finale, with callbacks to the past and flash-forwards to the futures of several key characters (imagined or not; more on that in a few paragraphs). The fact that Ted Lasso is Apple TV+’s biggest series by far to date might mean that the streamer and Warner Bros. This post contains spoilers for the series finale of "Ted Lasso."
The first two seasons of "Ted Lasso" are about how emotional vulnerability is both the hardest trait a person can ever learn and the most deeply worthwhile. The third season of "Ted Lasso" is about ... being nice, I guess? The once-beloved Apple TV+ series just bowed out with an episode that seems intended both as a series finale and the beginning of a new chapter, and even after sitting through 12 extra-length episodes this season, it's still a little tough to figure out what the show's season 3 gameplan was.
The 70-plus minute season (or series) finale certainly tied up several of the season's myriad loose ends, but in keeping with the pacing problems the whole season has faced, it spent much of its runtime puttering around before getting down to business in -- excuse the football metaphor here -- the fourth quarter.

Yeah, this might be all that we get. This might just well be it.
It’s almost like the “Ted Lasso” theme song anticipated that the Season 3 finale would close nearly all major storylines of the Apple TV+ series as the show’s future remains unclear.

[This story contains spoilers for “International Break,” the 10th episode of Ted Lasso season three.]
Ted Lasso’s title character is mostly off screen in this episode, which scattered several AFC Richmond players as they suited up for their national teams and left those at home with less to do at Nelson Road than a normal week during the club season. The show has pulled focus away from Ted and the club successfully in the past, but “International Break” felt somewhat disjointed.
Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) getting a new measure of closure with Rupert played well, and the seemingly inevitable reunion between Roy (Brett Goldstein) and Keeley (Juno Temple) had its moments too. Ted Lasso Season 3 is quickly approaching its final episodes and while viewers may be dreading the show’s potential end, we couldn’t help but ask the stars about their favorite moments from the much-loved series. Through the ups and downs of AFC Richmond’s football matches to the personal triumphs and struggles, Ted Lasso has found a place in plenty of viewers’ hearts, and the same could be said of the cast as stars Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Toheeb Jimoh, Brendan Hunt, Phil Dunster, Nick Mohammed, Jeremy Swift, James Lance, Kola Bokinni, Billy Harris, and Cristo Fernández. (Credit: Apple TV+) Together, they’re reflecting on the quotes, moments, and more from the series which make them happy. What’s even sweeter is this team’s admiration for one another as Waddingham reveals one of her favorite moments features Dunster’s Jamie Tartt. The moment in particular that Waddingham refers...

This post contains spoilers for "Ted Lasso" season 3, episode 7 "The Strings That Bind Us."
One of the most happy-go-lucky characters on "Ted Lasso" is Sam Obisanya, the AFC Richmond midfielder and Nigerian restaurant owner played by Toheeb Jimoh ("The Power"). Even when a billionaire calls him a "medium talent" and curses him out to his face, Sam is able to take it in stride. However, in "The Strings That Bind Us," Sam's unflappable, cheery demeanor finally cracks when he finds himself and his restaurant on the receiving end of racism and vandalism. It all starts when he gives some polite pushback on social media to the British Home Secretary's anti-refugee stance. Sam is promptly shouted down and told to "Shut up and dribble," a message that vandals graffiti inside his restaurant, too.
In the locker room, Sam explodes at the world's evils, and it's the first time we've really seen...

One of the best moments of “Ted Lasso” Season 3 came in this week’s “La Locker Room Aux Folles” and if you looked away for 10 seconds you’d have missed it. During halftime of a Premier League match, right after Isaac (Kola Bokinni) has gone into the stands to fight a homophobic AFC Richmond supporter, the captain hands his band to Sam (Toheeb Jimoh) to take his spot in his absence. Puncturing the seriousness, Jamie (Phil Dunster) and Sam have a playful back-and-forth about who should have it. Jamie playfully gestures to send the armband his way. Sam flips him off with a smile.
It’s a reminder of what “Ted Lasso” hasn’t been in recent weeks. Season 3 has largely become a bundle of ideas and thought exercises cobbled together in place of having any bigger plan. There was a throughline in the show’s opening season about gaining...

“Football is life!” If you’re a true Ted Lasso fan, you probably heard Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) saying that quote in your head as you read it. And we don’t blame you! This beloved Apple TV+ show is full of lovable characters, who are known for saying some of the most memorable lines. Who can forget when Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) told Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh), “You know what the happiest animal on Earth is? It’s a goldfish. You know why? It’s got a 10-second memory,” after Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) tripped him while they were running drills? Or when Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) confessed to Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), “I have a confession to make. I’ve never really cared about football. I know. I know it sounds insane, but I know how to act at a match. ‘Referee! Offside, you turnip,'” even though...

[This story contains spoilers for “The Strings That Bind Us,” episode seven of Ted Lasso’s third season.]
Ted Lasso is a comedy, obviously, and occasionally a tearjerker, but it’s also something of a fantasy — a world where not only an American football coach initially hired as a revenge play can stick on for three seasons at the top levels of English football, but also one whose characters are almost always trying to become better people.
That’s part of what makes the show so appealing, and also what makes for such a jolt in the times when the real world shoulders its way into the story. “The Strings That Bind Us” had a big dose of that, but the episode (which clocked in at nearly an hour after last week’s 62-minute outing) still left room to bring home its core belief that people working together is the best way forward, on or off a field of play.

Most of the memorable scenes in Ted Lasso are heartwarming moments. The jokes, the actual soccer matches, it’s all there to serve the relationships between the characters. And yet, the Apple TV+ hit series puts a great amount of effort into making sure everything around the fantastic cast is lavishly filmed and believable. The athletic feats on display were notably kicked up a notch in Season 2, and the cast wasn’t shy about praising the visual effects work that went into the series. But one of the most amazing moments in the entire season actually happened for real.

In episode 5 of "Ted Lasso" season 3, the Greyhounds are coming off of a brutal loss to West Ham that knocks them even further down the Premier League power rankings. Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Richmond's owner and biggest champion, storms into Ted's office and yells, "Are we ever going to win another f***ing match?" Clearly, the team is spiraling and the pressure of joining the Premier League is mounting, causing a rift between Rebecca, the team, and the fans; a rift that's only growing larger week by week.
Of course, the entire Richmond community wants their team to win and Ted has an obligation to make sure they're the best they can be. But season 3 as a whole has become a little too concerned with what's happening on the field and in episode 5, "Signs," the obsession with winning becomes too much of a focus for a show that's always chosen...

The phenomenon of at least three and sometimes even four performers earning Emmy nominations from the same situation comedy series used to be pretty rate. But over the course of the past 13 years, with the increase in the number of category nominees to as many as eight, it’s grown increasingly common. In fact, it’s happened 7 times since 2010 in the supporting actor in a comedy series lineup and three times since 2017 among supporting comedy actresses. And in 2021 and 2022, thanks to “Ted Lasso,” there have been same-series threesomes on both sides.
Looking ahead to this year, the show with the best chance of placing three nominees in a supporting comedy series lineup is “Abbott Elementary” and its 1-2-3 punch of last year’s Emmy champ and current frontrunner Sheryl Lee Ralph, NAACP Image Award victor Janelle James and Lisa Ann Walter. They are right now holding down the 1, 3 and 7 spots,...

Last week on “Ted Lasso,” the mighty UFC Richmond went down to West Ham United (1-4) in a fierce contest. And the scene is set for opposing coaches to go head-to-head at the 2023 Emmy Awards — albeit in a friendlier competition.
In the third season of the Apple TV+ comedy, AFC Richmond is still coached by the loveable Ted (Jason Sudeikis) with assistant coaches Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt). The team started as underdogs, but landing star recruit Zava (Maximilian Osinski) rockets the Greyhounds up the standings. Former Richmond assistant coach Nate (Nick Mohammad), meanwhile, has taken the reigns at West Ham, who have enjoyed a dominant season, with “The Wonder Kid” looking to put his old club in their place.
The first four episodes of the season culminated in a grudge match between the two clubs. After conceding two goals late in the first half, Richmond fell apart.

At first glance, The Power may seem like a superhero story crossed with The Handmaid’s Tale, but it is so much more than that. Based on the novel by Naomi Alderman, The Power is an epic story about not just women who are imbued with a mysterious new ability but also how the structure of control and hierarchy of our world shifts because of this change.
The Power posits what it would be like if teenage girls across the globe suddenly manifested the ability to harness electricity through their bodies. Some fear the power, while others embrace what it means for those subjugated because of their gender. In a global tale set in various countries, The Power shows us how fear changes the perspective of men, women, and those who identify with a different sex. Sometimes funny, often dramatic, and always shocking, The Power is a commentary on our...

Coach Ted might just be in over his head in the third season of the Ted Lasso TV show on Apple TV+. As we all know, Nielsen ratings typically play a big role in determining whether a TV show like Ted Lasso is cancelled or renewed for season four (there's been talk that season three is the end). Apple TV+ and other streaming platforms, however, collect their own data. If you've been watching this TV series, we'd love to know how you feel about the third season episodes of Ted Lasso here.

This week is all about the two shows that are poised to dominate the Emmys this year, “Succession” and “Ted Lasso,” whose seasons are still in the early stages but are continuing their weekly rollouts. Heck, even our top pick for an Emmy contender to watch this weekend is “Succession”-adjacent. Here’s what you should stream this weekend.

The Power, from showrunner Raelle Tucker (True Blood) and filmmakers Sister (Chernobyl), has finally arrived on Prime Video. She and her husband, Rob (John Leguizamo), try to help their daughter, but Margot being the mayor of Seattle adds a complicated layer to their situation. When the Ted Lasso cast got invited to visit the White House, Brett Goldstein admitted that despite it being a “privilege” to be there, there was one ongoing issue he had to deal with: He didn’t know what to do with his hands.
“It was amazing and it was an honor and it was a privilege. But I’ve never been more aware of my hands than I was all day,” Goldstein recalled while visiting Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday.
He added, “Like, what do you do with your hands at the White House? I didn’t know how to stand. I didn’t know how to sit. I was like, ‘What is a person?’ I lost my mind. It’s so serious. It’s the fucking the White House. I’m really trying not to swear, desperately trying not to make jokes. Like, I’ve never worked hard in my life.

Prime Video’s The Power, based on Naomi Alderman’s book of the same name, is set in a world where teen girls all over the world suddenly develop the ability to harness electricity through their fingertips. This The Power review contains no spoilers.
Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely etc. etc., but not (yet) in Prime Video‘s excellent adaptation of Naomi Alderman’s 2016 best selling work of speculative fiction. The novel, developed with help from a mentorship with Margaret Atwood, imagines what would happen if teenage girls suddenly developed the ability to produce electrical charges through their fingers.
The series takes this premise, updates it slightly for a 2023 audience and creates a show that feels complex, nuanced, emotional, and, yes, electric. This is not a simplistic girls against boys diatribe. It’s not a diatribe at all, but a fascinating thought experiment translated into colorful, dynamic TV, with a banging sound track and an impressive ensemble cast.
With an all-female writers room, the show was developed by Alderman, Raelle Tucker and Sarah Quintrell, with Tucker as the showrunner. They’ve created a powerhouse.

It is based on the novel written by Naomi Alderman.
The Power (2023-)

In an episode of “The Power,” Prime Video’s series adaptation of Naomi Alderman’s acclaimed speculative novel, Roxy (Ria Zmitrowicz) tries to walk into a nightclub without flashing the ID that would reveal she’s underage. The swole sentinel manning the door tries to turn her away until Roxy creates a tiny lightning bolt between her thumb and index finger. The bouncer immediately backs down, now aware of the mortal threat Roxy poses, but she isn’t finished toying with him. “I’m not going in ‘til he smiles at me,” she says, goading him until he approximates joy. “There…you look nice when you smile.”

Amazon’s The Power does not want for ambition. Like the Naomi Alderman novel it’s based on, it’s set in a world transformed by a quirk of biology that suddenly gifts teenage girls the ability to generate electric jolts from their fingertips — and like the Alderman novel, it attempts a forest-and-the-trees approach to the premise. Its narrative encompasses half a dozen leads spread out over three or four continents, and includes plotlines as intimate as a teenage romance and as sweeping as national political movements.
But if the broadness of its scope is intriguing, the broadness of its storytelling sometimes comes as a disappointment. Particularly in the first half of the nine-episode season (of which critics screened the first eight hourlong chapters), The Power too often relies on archetypes over complex characterizations, and talking points over nuanced conversations — though by the final installments, it does manage to generate...

This seductive nine-episode sci-fi series has an empowering premise: Teen girls worldwide develop a new capability — to seize electric currents from within and direct them at will, letting the waves loose via “electric hands.” In The Power, the girls develop organs that imbue them with their new abilities, changing the lives of everyone in Seattle in the process. Mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez, played by Toni Collette, is mother to one of the teens, Jos (Auli’i Cravalho). She and her husband, Rob (John Leguizamo), try to help their daughter, but Margot being the mayor of Seattle adds a complicated layer to their situation. When the government tries to control the suddenly electrifying girls, a revolution sparks. The Power cast includes Toheeb Jimoh as Tunde Ojo, Josh Charles as Daniel Dandon, Eddie Marsan as Bernie Monke, Ria Zmitrowicz as Roxy Monke, Zrinka Cvitešić as Tatiana Moskalev, Halle Bush as Allie Montgomery, and more.

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Ted Lasso" season 3.
"Ted Lasso" has been having a bit of a rough time, and I don't just mean the usually-winsome soccer coach himself. The beloved Apple TV+ comedy has been having what can only be described as growing pains so far in its third season, which is a bit disconcerting considering it may be the show's last. So far, the new episodes have been overly-long and not especially funny, and have divided up the cast into somewhat isolated and depressing plotlines.
Of course, if it were a soccer game, "Ted Lasso" season 3 would only be in its first quarter; the season is set to have twelve episodes, and the show still has plenty of time to course-correct its uneven tone and rather muted comedy. While episode three, titled "4-5-1," didn't exactly squash all our worries about the show's conclusion,...
