The July 2015 merge of Studio71 and Collective Digital Studios united a Germany-based multi-channel network with a Us-based one to form a single global entity, currently known as Studio71. Now, that network is making another intercontinental journey; it has announced a deal with Beijing-based tech company ByteDance that will bring the videos of Studio71’s creative partners to top Chinese platforms like Toutiao.
Creators who will bring their videos to Chinese audiences as part of the deal include Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, Epic Meal Time, Matthew Santoro, Tana Mongeau, and Logan Paul, all of whom have millions of subscribers across the social web. The featured content will be subtitled in Mandarin, allowing local viewers to follow along with Western pranks, vlogs, and sketches.
Toutiao may be an unfamiliar app for American readers, but it’s huge in China. The content aggregation portal has been downloaded more than 600 million times, and it has more than 66 million daily active users.

Matthew Santoro has always been an open book. "I was always the class clown," the YouTube star says in the current issue of People. "I've never had a problem sharing my life with others." Born and raised in Welland, Ont., Santoro, 30, went to school to become an accountant but quit his job when his creative outlet, YouTube provided him the opportunity to support himself without a 9-to-5 job. "YouTube became my classroom and allowed me to entertain millions," says Santoro, who launched his self-titled channel of fun-fact videos in 2010, a vlog channel shortly after and a gaming channel earlier this year.

The biggest announcement from Studio71’s NewFronts presentation concerned its new partnership with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, but beyond that venture, the digital network also shared several other upcoming programs, including new series hosted by YouTube stars Matthew Santoro, Matthew Espinosa, and Family Fun Pack.
Studio71, which in January 2016 merged with fellow digital network Collective Digital Studios, works with some of the Internet’s most popular content creators. At its NewFronts event, it gave one of its newest partners, Flula Borg, a chance to show off his oddball personality before its execs took the stage to dazzle attendees with impressive statistics. According to Studio71 CEO Reza Izad, the network’s 1,200 partner channels deliver five billion views per month and make up 18% of YouTube’s coveted Google Preferred lineup.
The new programs in Studio71’s slate will give some of those partner channels a chance to build on the success they have achieved so far.

Consumer electronics company Lenovo has added its name to a fair number of sponsored YouTube project, but its latest partnership with the online video community looks like its most ambitious so far. It teamed up with production company Portal A for a campaign that features YouTube stars Matthew Santoro, EeOneGuy, and TheViralFever.
The campaign is titled #Goodweird, and it gave each of its creative partners the chance to film a dream video using the Lenovo Yoga tablet. Santoro, who hails from Canada, used the opportunity to travel to California and create a video about water; EeOneGuy, from Moscow, elected to shoot a weird music video; TheViralFever, led by its Indian stars, opted for a “weird, crazy Western.” The three creators then convened on Lenovo’s channel for an intercontinental dance-off that features the Yoga tablet front-and-center.
The video is the latest example of Portal A’s ability to link up YouTube stars across multiple oceans.

For the third year in a row, prominent members of the online video community are headed to Toronto to meet up with their fans and share some of their work. The Canadian metropolis will once again play host to the Buffer Festival, an online video gathering meant to resemble a traditional film festival.
Buffer Festival, which was launched in 2013 by vlogger Corey Vidal of the ApprenticeA YouTube channel, works a little differently most of the other events on the online video calendar. Its schedule is filled with 90-minute screenings, each one representing a different genre on YouTube. At a Saturday afternoon Science and Education screening, for example, relevant creators like Jake Roper of Vsauce3 and Matthew Santoro will present topical videos from around the Internet.
As Vidal told the Toronto Sun, this “film festival” feel is all part of the plan. “We want to be taking YouTube really seriously,” he said.

The return of Star Wars to American cinemas is just three months away, and Coffee-Mate is spreading the hype. The coffee company has a new line of Star Wars-themed bottles, and in order to spread the word about them, it has sponsored videos from YouTube stars Matthew Santoro, iJustine, and Toby Turner.
For its YouTube campaign, Coffee-Mate teamed up with the Reach Agency, which specializes in branded projects on social media platforms. The three participating creators in Coffee Mate’s push have more than 13 million subscribers between them and together achieve millions of views each day, guaranteeing a wide impact.

Periscope’s user base just hit a massive milestone. The Twitter-owned live streaming app now claims roughly 10 million active users across both its iOS and Android apps.
According to The Verge, Periscope founder Kayvon Beykpour announced the new user count on August 10, only four months after the app’s launch. At about a month after launch, Periscope was already at one million users, so the last few months have seen exponential growth for the live streaming company, which has already been used by director James Gunn, MTV, and digital stars like Matthew Santoro and Nicole Arbour to deliver live streams and new content to fans.
Beykpour also said despite the high user count on Periscope, the app doesn’t view that number as the ultimate sign of success. Instead, Periscope puts emphasis on the amount of time users watch content on a daily basis. As a collective whole, Beykpour said...

Each month, Reuters talks to significant people about the first jobs they ever worked. This First Jobs series has been running since 2013, and its latest rendition focuses on the YouTube community. Reuters talked to four online video stars--Michelle Phan, Cassey Ho, Matthew Santoro, and Bunny Meyer--about the positions they held before they began achieving fame on the Internet.
First Jobs isn’t the most substantive journalism out there, but it is interesting to read the ways in which YouTube stars’ early life experiences have informed their current work. Phan, for example, discusses the time she made $600 in two months selling candy in school, a success that forecasted her current success in the business world. And Ho, who offers fitness routines on her Blogilates channel, jokes about how her own candy business may have subtly influenced her decision to help people stay in shape.

Madonna received a lot of attention for releasing one of her music videos on live streaming app Meerkat. But Matthew Santoro and Nicole Arbour have also set themselves apart as live streaming pioneers. The duo of YouTube stars recently filmed a music video entirely with the Twitter-owned live streaming app Periscope.
Arbour and Santoro filmed every shot of “Fun Revolution” using Periscope streams before compiling the clips into a full-length video on YouTube. The YouTubers have appeared in each other’s Periscope streams before, particularly on Arbour’s Periscope-based show #TheScope (which is the first of its kind on that platform). So when Arbour wanted to create “Fun Revolution,” she enlisted Santoro to help direct and appear in the music video.
Arbour’s music video started as a branded entertainment piece for Awake Chocolate. The 30-year-old YouTuber, comedian, and recording artist told Tubefilter how she wanted to do something different with “Fun Revolution.

YouTube Space La was recently overtaken by Skynet, but in a good way. The venue played host to a Terminator-themed campaign involving several popular YouTubers like Olga Kay and Lilly Singh (or IISuperwomanII to the online video masses).
The Terminator campaign shoot took place over three days. In addition to Kay and Singh, YouTube brought in Woody Tondorf of Machinima, Toby Turner, and Matthew Santoro to film promotional videos for the upcoming Terminator: Genisys film from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. YouTubers Richard Ryan (RatedRR), Joe Penna (MysteryGuitarMan), Kevin Lieber (Vsauce2), Epic Lloyd, and Jack Douglass of Jacksfilms also made cameo appearances.
Kay told Tubefilter Arnold Schwarzenegger even showed up to contribute to the campaign. “There were at least 100 people in the lobby when Arnold arrived on set. I've never seen Youtube Space La being so silent,” Kay said in an email. “Everyone was taking in the Terminator power.
