Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone success gave him a special position within the television industry. He is currently serving as the creator of at least six big television productions, including the final season of his breakthrough series. Sheridan doesn’t handle the load very well as he revealed to Joe Rogan about his hectic work schedule that gave him just 4 hours of sleep for months.

Nicolas Cage plays the title character of “The Surfer,” but it’s not until the film’s final minute that he climbs onto a surfboard. The movie, while set on a muscle beach in Australia, isn’t about surfing. It’s about male anxiety, male power, male midlife crisis, male rituals of pain and dominance, and how much theater Nicolas Cage can wring out of all of that. “The Surfer” premiered last night at a Cannes midnight show, and that’s smart programming, because it really is a midnight movie — the kind of trippy slapdash comic nightmare where the only way to watch it is to sit back and “go with it.”
Cage makes that easy to do. The film has been designed as a bad-trip psychodrama that’s also a high-camp Nicolas Cage freak-out. I only wish that “The Surfer,” as directed by Lorcan Finnegan and written by Thomas Martin,...

There’s no point in hiring Nicolas Cage if you’re not going to let him rip with a wackadoodle, Ott performance, and he duly delivers in the sly psychological thriller The Surfer. Calibrating his character’s descent into mental and physical disarray so that it happens by evenly distributed degrees, Cage is in only moderately demented form overall here. That suits director Lorcan Finnegan (Without Name, Vivarium) and screenwriter Thomas Martin’s ambitions to call back to and yet also spoof vintage Australian New Wave films like Nicolas Roeg’s Walkabout (1971), dreamtime stories about alienated outsiders.
Toxic masculinity, the Big Bad de nos jours, also seems to be on their mind although the performances and cinematic quirks (zooms, jump cuts, all that jazz) are so hammy and gestural there’s nothing subtle about the critique. But that’s what makes it fun.

Nicolas Cage soaked up the applause as his new trippy psychological thriller “The Surfer” scored a six-minute standing ovation at a Cannes Film Festival midnight screening on Friday night.
Cage appeared to be having a ball, beaming from ear to ear and waving across the room as cheers erupted around the Palais for the film, a wild, mind-bending adventure that sees the fan favorite hit the sort of deranged peaks not witnessed on screen since “Mandy.” At one point he took the mic to ask how to say “eat the rat” in French — a line from the film (and likely to become a meme) — roaring “mangez le rat!” to the delight of the crowd.
Cage also used the opportunity while on the mic and standing next to Thierry Fremaux to claim that, back in 2021, he’d phoned the Cannes director to ask if his drama “Pig” could premiere in at the festival.

For some years now, Nicolas Cage has been a genre unto himself: desperate, deranged, deliciously cheesy, with that special mastery of dialogue that moves seamlessly from a panting whisper to a bellow and back again. Put Cage’s name above the title and your film has an immediate brand that not only rides over script glitches but does a full Fast and Furious speed-jump over the top of any yawning gaps in probability.

Taylor Sheridan is taking the world by storm thanks to his to his Yellowstone series and its prequels. Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
Connor then finds himself with Angelina Jolie’s Hannah, a wildland firefighter, who does all that she can to keep him safe. We have needs! Here’s what we’re hoping to see before TV’s most popular drama, Yellowstone, featuring the dysfunctional cattle-ranching Dutton clan, rides off into the sunset. 1. Beth and Rip adopt Carter. Ok, Beth (Kelly Reilly) doesn’t have to let young Carter (Finn Little) call her “mom,” as he once asked. But seeing her and Rip (Cole Hauser), whose tragic childhoods brought them each tons of grief, break the cycle of bad parenting might be the greatest redemptive plotline of all. (Credit: ©Paramount Network / Courtesy Everett Collection) 2. Jamie gets what’s coming. Black-sheep lawyer Jamie (Wes Bentley), aka the family punching bag, is a self-loathing mess. He called for his father’s impeachment as governor and vowed to kill Beth. We hope that before he can off his sister, he faces the consequences of the murders he’s already committed. 3. John finds peace. Patriarch John (Kevin Costner) has lied,...

After months of rumors circulating regarding Yellowstone star Kevin Costner’s status, Paramount Network’s confirmed this current season of the popular drama will be the show’s final season. The first eight episodes of season five aired from November 2022 to January 1, 2023. The final season five episodes will kick off in November.
Paramount’s Yellowstone announcement included the news that an untitled Yellowstone sequel will premiere in December. The sequel’s been given a straight-to-series order, however, Paramount didn’t announce any casting details or event hint at the story. Matthew McConaughey has been in talks to star, and it’s likely at least some of the Yellowstone cast will show up in the sequel.

Yellowstone is reportedly losing its star. Kevin Costner will not return to the Paramount Network series if it's renewed for a sixth season. In addition, the cast has not returned to Montana to film the second half of season five, supposedly due to Costner's availability, and there's no scheduled start date yet.
This news comes only days after it was reported that Costner’s wife of 18 years, Christine Costner, had filed for divorce.
Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Brecken Merrill, Forrie Smith, Denim Richards, Ian Bohen, Finn Little, Ryan Bingham, Gil Birmingham, Mo Brings Plenty, Wendy Moniz, Jen Landon, and Kathryn Kelly also star in the drama series which follows the Dutton family led by patriarch John Dutton (Costner). For a ratings powerhouse like Paramount Network's "Yellowstone," audiences probably tune in every week for a variety of reasons. The ongoing saga of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and his tumultuous family fighting to keep their ranch and way of life intact has become one of the most consistently entertaining shows on television. It's an epic R-rated soap opera that's also managed to feature a surprisingly compelling romance between the dangerously loyal ranch foreman Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and the business-savvy yet tormented Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly).
Through five seasons, Rip and Beth have fought through countless battles and a sea of melodrama to finally find some peace together. Under different circumstances, they might never have wound up as husband and wife, but in this world, they complement each other perfectly. "They're the ultimate power couple," Cole Hauser told The Hollywood Reporter in November 2022. "When you think of her mind,...

This article contains spoilers for Yellowstone season 5.
The first half of Yellowstone’s supersized fifth season was full of untapped potential, which likely means a final half dozen episodes packed with mayhem. Den of Geek breaks down a few likely scenarios that audiences could see when the show returns.
Will John Dutton Die?
We teased this idea in a previous piece by predicting possible conclusions to the Yellowstone story, and the argument has only grown stronger in season 5.
If you’ve been paying attention to the subtext of this easy-going season 5, there has been one recurring message – this world is not meant for cowboys. To mirror that, show creator Taylor Sheridan has constantly reminded us of John’s (Kevin Costner) mortality. John has been repeatedly reminded that the way his family has run Yellowstone is antiquated. He has to evolve or the Yellowstone will die.
But perhaps it’s not...

That's all she wrote, folks.
Well, for the time being at least.
Yellowstone Season 5 is taking a breather, but don't worry, it will return.
During the midseason finale (a first for Yellowstone), it was revealed that the show will return for the summer.
We knew it was going to be a big episode since those of us who cover it didn't get a screener ahead of time.
Of course, that means that you won't get a full review for the episode until later tonight, but you've got this semi-good news to tide you over.
As we rolled into the midseason finale, we were awaiting news about how the rest of the season will play out with new dynamics.
Beth realized just how far in debt the ranch was after apparently sticking her head in the sand and trusting what John trusted -- what worked for the last 100 plus years.

On Sunday night’s “Yellowstone” Beth Dutton got into a fight. That’s certainly nothing new for the Taylor Sheridan-created character. What is new is how this week’s fight played into how the series has treated Beth, and the other women on the show, this season. In Episode 5, “Watch ‘Em Ride Away,” Beth’s anger and animosity to Summer Higgins (Piper Perabo) came to a head. It also led to a lot of eye-rolling from many of those viewing it because the series itself seems to be getting annoyed with Beth and, out of ideas, is attempting to drastically change the character.
Right now, Beth is being retconned from fiery avenging angel to confused, emotional mess — and that doesn’t work. Take Beth’s problems with environmental activist Higgins. Summer decried everything the Yellowstone was about but, equally crucial, she caught the eye of Yellowstone patriarch John Dutton...

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 5
It has been a little harder to decipher exactly what Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan is going for this season. Usually, Sheridan wears his subtext as proudly as the cowboy hat he’s often seen wearing. Part of the massive popularity of his shows is that almost all of his characters tell the audience how they feel, (some even prognosticate their own death in the form of a voiceover), and that plainspoken sincerity and clarity is what fans have come to love.
When looking at the first handful of episodes this season, there has yet to be the same forthright approach to the storytelling, it’s been more of a cowboy-like saunter through events. Some of those events have pushed the plot forward, but only just enough, and so there’s a deliberate amble as characters remember the past, or talk about the future,...

As Beth Dutton likes to say, “You are the trailer park. I am the tornado.”
She is the resident badass at the heart of Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone.” Her anger is controlled and deliberate; so is her calculating mind. She can kiss her father goodbye and financially destroy a company or ruin someone’s life. She’s a warrior in designer pumps. But I’m gonna say it: “Yellowstone” may have a Beth Dutton problem.
Beth’s been through a lot. She’s been beaten, threatened with sexual assault, blown up, and thanks to her half-brother Jamie (Wes Bentley) underwent forced sterilization as a teenager. Her Idgaf attitude is refreshing; in a television landscape where women are often viewed as “likable” or “unlikable,” Beth lives and breathes for herself, her father John (Kevin Costner), and her husband Rip (Cole Hauser). Everyone else can go to hell.

Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton have come a long way since their teenage years together at the Yellowstone ranch.
“They’re the ultimate power couple,” Cole Hauser tells The Hollywood Reporter. “When you think of her mind, education and business savviness, and then you have this cowboy who knows the land and is one with animals and horses and cows, and understands how to run a ranch… When you smash them together, they are that perfect couple.”
That cowboy, played by Hauser, and the daughter to Kevin Costner’s patriarch, played by Kelly Reilly, have emerged as TV’s couple to watch. The Duttons have returned for a new season of family drama and political backstabbing, and it seems that there was quite an audience for the Yellowstone season 5 premiere.
Yellowstone has seen its ratings steadily rise over the last four seasons, and the first two episodes of the latest season have continued that trend. The Yellowstone season 5 premiere saw 8.8 million viewers on Paramount Network, which marks a 10 increase from the season 4 premiere. Across all four networks, Paramount Network, CMT, TVLand, and Pop, the premiere pulled in 10.3 million viewers, an 8 increase over last year’s 9.5 million. That number climbed to 12.1 million when the encore presentations were included. The premiere also shattered records in all demographics, each up by double digits. It’s safe to say that audiences are pretty pumped about Yellowstone.

The “Yellowstone” Season 5 premiere on Sunday night saw substantial gains in viewership over the show’s fourth season premiere last year.
The fifth season opener aired across Paramount Network, CMT, TV Land and Pop, with the same networks having aired the previous premiere as well. On Paramount Network alone, the show drew 8.8 million viewers compared to 8 million viewers for last year’s premiere, or a 10 increase. Across all four networks, it pulled in 10.3 million viewers compared to 9.5 million last year, or an 8 increase.
The Season 5 premiere was also rebroadcast on all four networks twice on Sunday night. When factoring in the encore airings, the total viewership rises to 12.1 million viewers, compared to 11.2 million the year before. It should be noted, however, that the Season 4 premiere was only given encore airings on Paramount Network, not on Pop, CMT, or TV Land.

“Yellowstone” is making its long-awaited return! The beloved series is gearing up for its fifth season premiere, and Et is getting you ready by taking a look back at all the goings-on in the Dutton family to this point.
For “Yellowstone” newbies, the Paramount Network series stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the family patriarch behind the country’s largest contiguous ranch. As John deals with drama from both his adult children and the ranch’s employees, he’s also facing threats of violence, working to stop land development in his state, and, oh yeah, becoming the governor.
All of that is just the tip of the iceberg, though, as “Yellowstone'”s drama extends far beyond John. Keep reading to see where season 4 left off, and to learn what the actors have teased to Et about what’s to come in the weeks ahead.

The phenomenon that is the Paramount+ series “Yellowstone” feels unprecedented. Creator Taylor Sheridan revisited the myth of the Western with his feature films before bringing it to television in 2018, a time when the genre was the stuff of Chuck Norris. But the runaway success of “Yellowstone” has already led to other networks attempting to cash in on audiences’ love for the majesty of flyover states, such as ABC’s “Alaska Daily” and “Big Sky” and The CW’s “Walker: Independence.”
And with more and more fans discovering “Yellowstone” — especially with its Season 5 premiere coming November 13 — it’s worth looking at where the show started and where things ended up. “Yellowstone” follows the Duttons, led by patriarch John (Kevin Costner) and his children Jamie (Wes Bentley), Beth (Kelly Reilly), and Kayce (Luke Grimes), as they struggle to maintain their power and retain control of their ranch, the titular Yellowstone.
