The Rookie has yet to meet a villain or antagonist it doesn't love to bring back.
Seriously, this formula of theirs, well, it's getting old.
Not only did we have Oscar and Monica wreaking havoc during The Rookie Season 6 Episode 10, but our big cliffhanger is that Jason, Bailey's abusive ex, escaped prison and is seeking revenge.
Well, okay then.
The Rookie has had its fair share of complex villains. No one will say they don't do a decent job at having memorable ones.
And sometimes, you do want to see those people return to shake things up a little bit.
But you want to avoid that becoming such a standard practice that it becomes predictable, or they stretch the bounds of credulity by bringing just about anyone back into the fold.

There are two types of people who enjoy crime dramas: some prefer their shows to be brooding and dark, the gorier the better, while others tend to enjoy the mystery element mixed with a heartwarming comedy. Elsbeth is a sure-fire hit for the second group, but it's not the only show you might want to check out.
Here are 8 other shows that will give you as much pleasure as Elsbeth without having to wait weeks to see a new episode.
White Collar (2009-2014)
Starring Matt Bomer as charismatic con man Neal Caffrey, the show follows his journey to become a great detective after getting out of prison in exchange for helping the FBI's White Collar Crimes Unit. The show is light-hearted, yet features some of the best crime cases you will ever see on television. Plus, there is a chance that it will get a reboot soon enough!

David Corenswet is our new Man of Steel, but before landing the leading role in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie, he had auditioned for the role of Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, at least, that was the rumour.
Responding to a fan on Threads, Gunn confirmed that Corenset did indeed audition for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but admitted that he doesn’t actually recall it. “I asked him about it and he said he did so I believe him, but I don’t remember it,” Gunn said. The fan also asked if Superman’s flying scenes in the new movie might be similar to Adam Warlock’s flying scenes from Guardians 3. “No, what we’re doing now for flying is much more complex than what was done for [Adam Warlock],” Gunn responded.

According to The Wrap, Pruitt Taylor-Vince has been cast as Jonathan Kent in James Gunn’s Superman. I can’t say that’s who I expected to play Clark Kent’s adoptive human father in the movie, but I’ve always been a big fan of the actor, who has appeared in everything from The X-Files to Deadwood to The Walking Dead.
Pruitt Taylor-Vince will join the long line of actors who have brought Jonathan Kent to life in movies and television, including Glenn Ford in the original Superman movie, John Schneider in Smallville, Kevin Costner in Man of Steel, and many more. As I mentioned above, Taylor-Vince might not feel like the obvious choice for the role, but he’s a true talent and I hope fans give him a chance.

The FBI universe remains a massive success story for CBS, and the network revealed some exciting news on Tuesday afternoon.
FBI, the flagship series, has scored an unprecedented three-season renewal, keeping it on the air through the 2026-2027 season.
Given its continued success, renewal was a no-brainer, but given the continued struggles broadcast TV has faced in recent years, multi-season renewals seemed out of the question for most shows.
But you can’t have FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted without the mothership.
It’s the glue that holds this universe together, and there’s a slim chance the two spinoffs will outlive it.
FBI Season 6 is currently averaging 9.1 million viewers (in Live+7 figures), making it Tuesday’s most-watched series.
FBI recently aired a tragic twist for Maggie
The series recently staged a Rookie Blue reunion that ended in tragedy and forever changed Maggie’s (Missy Peregrym) future.

The FBI universe is no stranger to killing off characters, and Tuesday’s latest episode of the original series left us with more questions than answers as a death hit very close to home for Maggie (Missy Peregrym).
The series’ Rookie Blue reunion with Peregrym and Charlotte Sullivan ended in tragedy this week, as Jessica was shockingly written out of the show.
Throughout the episode, we watched the friends work on a case together while Maggie tried to decide whether she was ready to become a mother.
“I’m just not sure that I’m ready for the stress of it all—and the uncertainty,” Maggie admitted in a somber scene, with Jessica responding:
“I get it. You want control, but that’s just not how this works.”
Throughout their mission, Maggie is left wondering whether her friend was in danger after they thought she was exposed to a ricin-cyanide...

When James Gunn announced that production had begun on Superman, he included a close-up of the new costume covered in snow, and now we know why. While speaking with Svalbardposten, Gunn revealed that the first scene he filmed for Superman was shot in Svalbard and featured Superman fleeing to the Fortress of Solitude.
“We have filmed the first scenes, which show Superman fleeing to the ice fortress,” Gunn said. “We wanted a place that was beautiful and felt like being in the middle of the Arctic, so we looked at several places in the world. But there were many things that sold Svalbard for us over the other places. First, there is the natural beauty. But there’s also the fact that you’ll find a varied landscape here that you won’t find anywhere else. Nature gives a special feeling.” We’ve seen the Fortress of Solitude many times in previous Superman adaptations,...

Actor Nathan Fillion has become a reliable leading man when it comes to shows like The Rookie. He was already attached to the hit series Castle, and continued his success with the police procedural. The Rookie creator himself once explained why he felt Fillion might’ve stood out from other leading men in the entertainment industry.
‘Rookie’ creator Alexi Hawley reveals why Nathan Fillion is a different leading man Nathan Fillion | Erica Parise/Getty Images
Hawley already had Fillion in mind before he even had his first script for The Rookie. The producer only had a premise for the show, which he thought Fillion might’ve had trouble putting faith in. The actor also just finished up doing another long-running series in Castle. At the time, Fillion might not have been ready to do yet another network series full time. Canadian-American actor Nathan Fillion is popularly known for portraying the character of Captain Malcolm Reynolds on Firefly, and starring as Richard Castle on Castle. The actor is regarded as one of the finest actors in the entertainment industry who in 2018 starred as John Nolan on The Rookie; a police procedural crime drama series.
The Rookie, already in its sixth season, follows the story of John Nolan, who becomes the oldest rookie at the LAPD. The show is based on real-life LAPD officer William Norcross who joined the department in his mid-40s in 2015. The actor has received praise for his performance on the show, but he shares one honest opinion about starring on the show.

Actor Nathan Fillion has played The Rookie‘s John Nolan almost as long as he’s played mystery writer Richard Castle. Although he held both roles in high regard, there was a reason why he’d hang out with John Nolan over the latter.

Fillion’s John Nolan and Richard Castle already had one thing in common, as the two characters both dedicated themselves to solving crimes. But that was where the similarities mostly ended. In Castle, Fillion played a mystery crime writer who helps police officers investigate grisly murders. Meanwhile, The Rookie found Fillion playing a middle-aged police officer who developed a sudden passion for making a difference. The Rookie was also based on a true story, whereas Castle was entirely fictional.

As far as weddings go, Nolan and Bailey had a great one.

The Rookie has graduated from primetime newbie to veteran TV show as it reaches its 100th episode, a milestone star and executive producer Nathan Fillion says tells you, “Whatever you’re doing, you’re doing something right.” Since debuting in 2018, the ABC police procedural has sustained faithful viewership amid both internal and industrywide obstacles, including the pandemic and most recently, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Fillion, who portrays John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the LAPD, credits the drama’s longevity to creator and showrunner Alexi Hawley, with whom he also worked on ABC’s Castle from 2009-16. “I think what keeps people coming back is the time they spend with these characters,” says Fillion, who teases the possibility of new romantic plotlines during season six. “Anytime you throw two different characters in a squad car together, you know you’re going to get different dynamics, and people are tuning in to that.

Are you ready for a Rookie wedding?
You can guarantee that our favorite series will do it in style, and we've been waiting for Nolan and Bailey to tie the knot for what feels like forever!
But the big Nailey wedding isn't the only thing that makes The Rookie Season 6 Episode 2 so special! It's also a milestone hour as the series celebrates an incredible 100 episodes!
These days, any series that could reach the 100th mark at all is fortunate, as far too often, great shows get ripped from our clutches before they could so much as make their mark.
But The Rookie has made its mark and some, honing in on its own distinctive style, and we can expect even more of what the show has to offer in this 100th installment.

Dearly beloved, we are finally gathered for the strike-delayed return of the consistently compelling LAPD drama, The Rookie. It’s likely only a matter of time before Dave Bautista officially joins the Dcu, but who should he play? James Gunn took that very question to fans over on Threads, and there were quite a few interesting responses.
One of the most popular responses suggested that Dave Bautista play Hugo Strange in the Dcu, the scientist and criminal mastermind who was one of Batman’s first recurring villains. Another popular choice was Mongul, the tyrannical ruler of Warworld who can go toe-to-toe with Superman. Other comments suggested that Bautista would be perfect for characters such as Darkseid, Bane, Kilowog, Mr. Freeze, Atrocitus, or even Bibbo Bibbowski.

As much as we loved Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Superman, his take on the character didn’t include much humor, but it doesn’t sound as though that will be the case with Superman: Legacy. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Rachel Brosnahan teased that the new Superman played by David Corenswet will “have a sense of humor.“
“I’ve really enjoyed the collaboration with James Gunn so far,” Brosnahan said. “Every single person involved in this production is just such a perfect nerd for Superman. We all grew up watching the movies. Some of us were reading the comics. So I feel like it’s being made with so much love. And I think this Superman will have a sense of humor… We’re excited to both put our own spin on things and honor the material we love so much.” The actress added that her take on Lois Lane will be “feisty,...

The end of the year is nigh! However, before the ball drops in Times Square and the New Year’s Baby puts Father Time out to pasture, James Gunn is teasing fans with what Nicholas Hoult could look like as Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy. Gunn posted artwork created by davi_a86 to his Instagram account, depicting Hoult as the chrome-domed mastermind with a penchant for building mech suits infused with kryptonite.
A Hoult-inspired Lex Luthor projects a smarmy smile while holding a brightly glowing kryptonite fragment in the image. Drawn in the style of an old-school comic book cover, Hoult’s Luthor dons a purple blazer with a green undershirt. As his baby blues pierce your soul, his knowing smirk tells you Lex is up to no good. Gunn shared the artwork on his Instagram Stories, so unless you got a screenshot or highlighted it, it’s already gone poof!

It was recently revealed that Superman: Legacy would start shooting in March, which left fans wondering whether we might see our first look at the new Superman suit before then.
One fan took to Threads to ask James Gunn, “What’s the likelihood of seeing what the suit looks like before filming in March?” Unfortunately, Gunn had a pretty definite response: “zero-point-zero.” This likely means that Superman: Legacy will start shooting in the studio, which makes it much easier to keep photo leaks under wraps. As we saw with Deadpool 3, the paparazzi shots came fast and furious as soon as the production moved outside, which is why Marvel got ahead of the game by releasing an official look at Deadpool and Wolverine.

Everyone’s favourite Sticky Bandit, Daniel Stern, was the original choice for directing Jim Carrey comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, but the actor has now shared why he turned it down.
Home Alone is a staple Christmas watch in most households, but did you know that one of the actors was the original director for Ace Ventura: Pet Detective?
That’s right. Daniel Stern, who played Marv in the first two Home Alone films, has recently revealed in an interview with Comicbook.com that he was in line to direct the Jim Carrey comedy but turned it down. Deadline reports that Sean Gunn will play Maxwell Lord in the new DC Universe. The evil businessman was previously played by Pedro Pascal in Wonder Woman 1984.
It’s not known if Sean Gunn will appear as Maxwell Lord in Superman: Legacy, which will be written and directed by James Gunn, but Deadline has heard that the character will merely be mentioned in the background, setting the stage for a future DC appearance. Maxwell Lord first appeared in Justice League #1 in 1987 and wasn’t originally a villain, but he later became an adversary to the Justice League and to Wonder Woman in particular. Although he initially had no abilities, he later gained the power to telepathically influence the minds of others.

Deadline has reported that María Gabriela de Faría has joined the cast of James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy as The Engineer.
María Gabriela de Faría will play Angela Spica, a member of The Authority with a liquid body due to the nanotechnology in her bloodstream. The character was created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch and was first introduced in The Authority #1 in 1999. The superhero group is set to be featured in their own movie in the first chapter of the Dcu, but there were rumblings this summer that they would first be introduced in Superman: Legacy.

With the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes over, ABC is looking ahead to 2024, and sadly, it's bad news for fans of The Rookie Feds and The Good Lawyer.
The network confirmed late Thursday that The Rookie: Feds had been canceled after a single season, while The Good Doctor spinoff would not be getting a formal series order.
The news for both projects is a bit of a surprise, but given the network's now-stacked midseason slate, these kinds of decisions are expected in the coming weeks.
The Rookie: Feds launched last fall on ABC to a tepid response and middling ratings.
Niecy Nash headlined the spinoff, which was paired with The Rookie at midseason, leading to some of both shows best numbers.
The series also benefited from a robust digital footprint, signaling that while there was interest in the show, many of the viewers weren't interested in watching live.
But the two-punch...

Thanks to the help of her best friend Gary (Goo), she scores an interview with his boss, Mr. Litchfield (Wilson). But when her call to schedule the interview goes to voicemail, Siobhan panics and leaves a series of unhinged messages. Not wanting to lose the interview, she embarks on a chaotic mission to delete the voicemails herself. In a ceremony that took place on August 13, animated movie “Iti Mapukpukaw” by Carl Joseph E. Papa and “Rookie” by Samantha Lee and Natts Jadaone.
“Iti Mapukpukaw” focuses on Eric, an animator working in the Phillipines living a rather normal life. He has a nice but dirty apartment, a good paying job, and a guy he likes. One thing glaring about Eric though is he does not have a mouth, literally. One day, he receives a call from his mother Rosalinda, asking him to check up on his seemingly lost uncle. Only to find out that his uncle has been dead for days. While still in shock, a familiar alien arrives wanting to take Eric away from Earth. Iti Mapukpukaw is Filipino-Ilocano rotoscope animated film that follows Eric's life as it twists and turns after the arrival of the familiar alien, and the death of his uncle; both of which...

Chenford experienced some challenges while Lucy went undercover on The Rookie Season 5 Episode 21.

Also, did Celina's upcoming date have you happy or worried? See what our round table team has to say...
Lucy shut down the undercover operation, but do you think Frank will be back in touch? Would you like to see him return?

ABC‘s The Rookie Season 5 is currently on a hiatus, but we refuse to stop writing about the procedural series. And the first topic we want to touch upon is John Nolan and Bailey Nune’s relationship. They first met during the season 3 finale and are a relatively cute couple. However, when we see Nolan and Bailey onscreen while watching The Rookie, we feel nothing. And we believe that there’s an expiration date to their romance.
Nathan Fillion as John Nolan and Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune | ABC/Raymond Liu Nolan and Bailey became engaged in ‘The Rookie’ Season 5
After attending Angela Lopez and Wesley Evers’ almost wedding in the season 3 finale of The Rookie, Nolan and Bailey officially became a couple in season 4. Their relationship moved quickly, and just a few episodes later, Nolan was ready to propose. However, the appearance of Bailey’s ex-con husband, Jason, put a damper on things.
