Singer-songwriter David Ryan Harris, who’s been a guitarist in John Mayer’s band for two decades, took to social media to reveal that he and his two sons were wet by police after disembarking an American Airlines flight when a flight attendant suspected he was a child trafficker and his children were his victims.
“Apparently, a flight attendant had called ahead with some sort of concern that perhaps my mixed children weren’t my children, because they were unresponsive during an interaction with her,” Harris said in the first of several videos he shared on Instagram, as reported by People.

Actor Nathan Davis Jr., best known for “Detroit,” “Hotel Artemis” and Marvel’s “Runaways,” said that growing up as a Black man, he never really experienced racism. But, in a lawsuit filed on Tuesday, Davis reveals that he was kicked off an airplane last December, after a flight attendant told him he was playing music too loudly and falsely accused him of possessing a gun, an incident Davis claims was racially motivated.
“I was extremely fearful,” Davis said in an interview with Variety. “I honestly felt like there was nobody there that had my back. I was the only Black man on the plane. I just honestly felt like my life didn’t matter — I literally felt like this lady was going to take away my life, just by saying that I had a gun.”

Other digital creators participating in VidCon Now are slated to include Gigi Gorgeous, Jacksepticeye, DreaKnowsBest, Ambers Closet, Miles McKenna and Vanessa Brasfield.

'Still-living history' See previous post: “'Detroit' Movie: Kathryn Bigelow 1967 Riots Depiction 'Horribly Real' & 'Deeply Self-Serving'.” But I'm a Black American from the 1960s, who knows this history as a history of the lives of my people in this nation. From uprisings in Philly and Harlem, to those in Watts and Ferguson (where I lived for years), these stories have been lived and told from generation to generation with the specific intention of keeping me and black boys like me alive. The idea that the police could and did kill black folks anywhere, at anytime, for any reason – or no reason at all – has been a baseline of understanding in black communities for 400 years, give or take a week or two during Reconstruction and Bill Clinton's first election. For Black Americans, the events of Detroit '67 are not the events of a “dramatic thriller.” They are the events of a tragedy and still-living history we...

Last week was probably the best week of the year for me yet, screening wise. Not only did I lay eyes on Dunkirk at last, but I also got a chance to see Kathryn Bigelow’s latest film. That film, in case you’re not aware, is Detroit and it quickly stood up next to Dunkirk as the class of 2017. In fact, I think Bigelow’s movie is slightly better, even. With the embargo having lifted yesterday in the late afternoon, I can now begin to rave about it. And believe me, it deserves to be raved about. Detroit is something special. Bigelow and Mark Boal have done it again. This film is a docudrama about the 1967 Detroit Rebellion, also known as the 12th Street Riots. A central incident depicted is a police raid on the Algiers Motel. Known as the Algiers Motel incident, that fateful July 25th night in...

A gripping and powerful new trailer has been released for Detroit. The trailer centers around John Boyega's character being interrogated by the police for the killing of three people. It looks like Boyega gives an incredible performance in this movie. I also included a new featurette that focuses on the true events that the film is based on, which is intriguing and eye-opening. During the long, hot summer of 1967, the city of Detroit erupted into a full-blown war zone as police clashed with the predominantly Africa-American population of the inner city.
That civil disturbance, one which would go on to become one of the costliest in American history, was reportedly sparked by a police raid of an unlicensed bar in mid-July, leading to four terrifying days and nights of fiercely controversial incidents, such as the Algiers Motel killings. All of this and more is teased in the tense first trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s drama, which finds John Boyega’s (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) security guard under interrogation. It’s a remarkably intense and effective scene, and one that tees up the calm before the oncoming storm.
Assuming Bigelow’s real-life drama stays true to the history books – and we’re inclined to believe it will – the story of Detroit will likely unfold over those four days,...

Kathryn Bigelow has spent the latter part of her career making films that vibrate with the pulse of the nation. “The Hurt Locker” zeroed in on the fallout from the Iraq War, “Zero Dark Thirty” brought audiences inside the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, and now her latest film “Detroit,” about racial conflict in the city in the late ’60s, is strikingly relevant.
An absolutely staggering cast including John Boyega, John Krasinski, Jason Mitchell, Anthony Mackie, Will Poulter, Jacob Latimore, Joseph David-Jones, Algee Smith, Ben O’Toole, Jack Reynor, Kaitlyn Dever, Hannah Murray, Jeremy Strong, Chris Chalk, Austin Hébert, Ephraim Sykes, Laz Alonso, Nathan Davis Jr., Malcolm David Kelley, Peyton Alex Smith and Leon Thomas III, make up the crime drama that’s set against the backdrop of Detroit’s devastating riots that took place over five haunting summer days in 1967.
