This post contains mild spoilers for "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."
Ryan Coogler's film "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is a vast and complex fantasy film that centers on a potential war between the titular high-tech fictional African nation and the vast, ultra-powered underwater Mesoamerican/futurist kingdom of Talokan. The former uses an underground deposit of a rare, magical metal called vibranium to power advanced, fantastical machines like flying saucers and feather-light, indestructible, flying suits of armor. The latter also possesses a store of vibranium and has constructed a miniature underwater sun, that has sustained a lost race of merpeople for generations. While the plot of "Wakanda Forever" occasionally gets lost in the (sea)weeds, its envisioning of two rival fantasy countries is one of the more impressive visual accomplishments of the year's cinema.

A day after releasing the audio for “Lift Me Up,” her new song from the soundtrack of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Rihanna has dropped the official music video, and you can watch it above now.
The video is a fairly simple thing — Rihanna just went to a beach somewhere and had a camera crew capture her looking emotional against a sunset and twilight sky. It’s interspersed with footage from “Wakanda Forever,” which will of course be its own kind of emotional, since the context both in the story and in the real world is the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman, who died of cancer in 2020.
The song is Rihanna’s first solo single since “Lemon” in 2017.

Rumors began circulating earlier this month that Rihanna has recorded not one, but two tracks for the upcoming Marvel movie.
On Twitter Tuesday, the studio posted an animation of the “Wakanda Forever” title shimmers, shuffles and then fades away, leaving only the letter R, and a date: 10/28/22.
Five years ago, the artist released “Lemon,” and it has been 6 years since she released a studio album (“Anti”). More recently, she gave birth to a child she shares with longtime partner Aap Rocky.

It’s been 6 long years since Rihanna’s last studio album, and 5 since her last solo single, “Lemon.” She’s appeared on a few other artists’ records here and there, but that’s still a long time for fans to go without Luckily, it looks like the Rihannapocalypse might be ending soon — thanks to “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
Earlier this month rumors spread that Rihanna has recorded two tracks for the upcoming Marvel movie and on Tuesday Marvel appears to have confirmed them. On Twitter the studio posted an animation of the “Wakanda Forever” logo that jumbles around and then fades away, leaving only the letter R, and a date: 10/28/22.

Anita Gou’s producing career focuses on helping filmmakers and creatives bring their personal passions and visions to the screen. With Focus Features’ Cannes Un Certain Regard entry “The Silent Twins” from director Agniezska Smoczynska, her streak producing singular visions — such as Lula Wang’s “The Farewell” and “Honeyboy,” the collaboration of writer-actor Shia LeBeouf and Alma Har’el — continues.
She started in the business right out of school getting her feet wet in post-production on bigger studio films.
“I kind of quickly realized through that experience — though very fruitful and eye-opening — that my passion was really about more independently driven films, more idiosyncratic storytelling, storytellers and stories. So I quickly navigated how to find my way to towards the kind of filmmakers I want to be working with.”
“The Silent Twins” tells the story of two Black women, June and Jennifer Gibbons, who, growing up in 1970s Wales, only communicated with each other,...

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association gave their Best Picture award to Steve McQueen‘s epic anthology series “Small Axe,” so surely it must be the frontrunner for Best Limited Series at the Golden Globes, right? Gold Derby editors Zach Laws, Marcus James Dixon and Daniel Montgomery discuss whether or not the Amazon Prime series will ax the competition, or if Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit” can checkmate it. Watch the full slugfest video above, or scroll down to listen to the podcast version.
See For ‘Small Axe,’ movie awards and TV awards could go hand-in-hand, just like the did for ‘Carlos’ 10 years ago
“It has such great snob appeal for the Globes,” Daniel explains. “It’s ‘cinema.’ That’s why the Los Angeles Film Critics awarded it Best Picture, even though it’s not a traditional film.” Rather, it’s a collection of five films centered around London’s...

Welcome back to another edition of ‘What Did Gina Carano Do This Time?’, the weekly look at what The Mandalorian‘s Cara Dune has been up to on social media, which usually results in her offending a lot of people who then demand she get fired from the hit Disney Plus show. As we all know, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while hoping for different results, but the army of keyboard warriors calling for her dismissal will seemingly continue their vendetta every time she heads online.
Of course, the things the actress posts are her own personal opinions and don’t reflect the views or beliefs of the multi-billion dollar corporation that she works for, and social media is a place where anyone can say pretty much anything they want and the only repercussions tend to come from cancel culture, but that...

“Mangrove,” now streaming on Amazon Prime, is the first in the five-part anthology, “Small Axe” by director Steve McQueen. Spanning two decades, the films are standalones tracing the West Indian experience with reggae music and costume tying all five films together.
Costume designer Jacqueline Durran oversaw all five films, while individual designers worked on each installment. In “Mangrove,” Lisa Duncan created the looks for the film that tells the true story of the Mangrove Nine, who clashed with London police in 1970.
Duncan breaks down her process and crafting the looks of the characters Frank Crichlow (Shaun Parkes), Darcus Howe (Malachi Kirby) and the British Black Panther leader Altheia Jones-LeCointe (Letitia Wright).
What were some of the conversations you had with Steve McQueen and Jacqueline Durran about capturing the look for “Mangrove?”
Jacqueline approached my agency to get me to come in and talk to her about Mangrove and the trial.

In a video posted to Instagram Tuesday night, “Black Panther” co-star Leticia Wright paid heartfelt to her “brother” Chadwick Boseman, who died Friday following a four-year battle with cancer.
Set to the music of Montell Fish and Jkd Stay Free, the video features scenes of sunsets, beaches, cityscapes and other images, with photographs and video footage of Boseman edited in. Over this footage Wright, who plays Shuri in “Black Panther,” “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: End Game,” recites a prose poem — her voice breaking at points — expressing her grief and shock over Boseman’s death.
We’ve transcribed her words in full below. Watch the video at the bottom of the page.
“It is written there is nothing new under the sun. But the sun stood still that morning. Refusing to shine, dark clouds surrounding, confusion setting in. Tears flowing. Rivers so deep. I didn’t know this was what I was waking up to.

Merritt Wever returned to the Emmy race with a Best Limited Series/Movie Supporting Actress nomination for Netflix’s “Godless.” It’s the first time she’s competed since her surprise victory as Best Comedy Supporting Actress for playing the good-hearted nurse in “Nurse Jackie” in 2013, a role for which she previously contended in 2012. In “Godless,” she’s cast against type as Mary Agnes, a brash widow in a town where almost all of the men have died in a mining accident.
In “The Ladies of La Belle,” Mary Agnes wrestles with an all-or-nothing offer when the Quicksilver Mining Company arrives to discuss the future of the mine. She finds their proposed deal to be suspicious, and encourages her fellow women to fend for themselves. Yet she’s overruled by the rest of the townspeople, who want men to return to their town.
