Austin, TX – The SXSW Conference and Festivals wrapped on March 19th, after 10 days of magic and Austin wackiness, showcasing film, TV, interactive, conferences, interviews and music. The Film & TV Fest named “Raging Grace” as the top Narrative Feature and “Grown” as top TV Pilot.
“Raging Grace” was written and directed by Paris Zarcilla, telling the story of a Filipina house cleaner and her young daughter, with the jury noting its “heady blend of horror, history, and midnight humor announcing the arrival of an exciting new filmmaking talent.” The TV Pilot “Grown” focuses on a teenage boy attempting to move forward after losing his father, and the jury said it was “a coming-of-age story told with heart and visually realized with polish and verve.”

Two days after ”Everything Everywhere All at Once“ won seven Oscars, including best picture, the SXSW Film Festival, where Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s movie launched last year, has announced its own awards. To be clear, “Eeaao” was a studio-backed opening night premiere (not one of the smaller movies launched in competition at the indie-focused fest), but you can still feel the excitement in Austin around the landmark Oscar win. After all, SXSW was the first festival to take Daniels seriously, awarding them top prize for their Battles music video (“My Machines”) in 2012.
Will any of the movies or directors screening here this year go on to change film history?
With five days still to go at SXSW, the juries convened to present the winners.

“Tokyo Lovers” is co-written and co-directed by Mayumi Yoshida – who also stars in the movie – and Nach Dudsdeemaytha, two Vancouver-based producers, directors, editors.
The short film is at the moment touring the festival circuit and it has recently taken home 5 awards from Vancouver Short Film Festival.
“Tokyo Lovers” is screening at the
Winter Film Awards International Film Festival
Young Canadian Paul (Jerome Yoo) has the brilliant idea to travel to Tokyo for the Christmas and New Tear Vacations and join Sachiko, a girl he thinks of as his girlfriend. They had a fling back in Vancouver and promised love to each other as many lovely selfies on his phone can prove. This – of course – is the typical prologue of a disaster and not surprisingly, when Paul knocks at her door, Aki, a grumpy and disillusioned flat-mate is there to inform him that Sachiko has gone back to her hometown for Christmas.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Uncork'd Entertainment. Director/writer: Karen Lam. Cast: Kat de Lieva, Richard Harmon, Mayumi Yoshida, David Lewis David Lewis and Kelvin Redvers. Evangeline is a revenge tale, from director Karen Lam. This title was completed in 2013, toured festivals and now, the film is set to release on home video formats. Though, this is one release that might best be forgotten. An homage to Alex Proyas' The Crow (1994), Evangeline is more rock video than a true film. Lam's storytelling style brings lots of characters to the screen, none of whom are really developed. Even the protagonist is shallow and mute, through much of the film. As well, so many ideas are introduced into the story, that Evangeline staggers all over the place. Only the visual style, which is often dark and moody, is consistent and well produced. Almost all other film elements are incongruous,...
