Though The Batman is arguably the most anticipated DC movie currently lacking a release date, we haven’t had much concrete news to report. For now, it appears that director Matt Reeves will recast the title role, and the Penguin may feature prominently because he’s the villain rumored most often. But again, we’ve been given no official word from Warner Bros.
That being said, it’s very possible we could have much more to discuss early in 2019 because, don’t forget, Reeves is expected to turn in his second draft before the calendar changes. After that, all we can do is hope that somebody over in Hollywood has some loose lips and gives up the goods.
In the meantime, Mario-Francisco Robles over at Revenge of the Fans says he’s gotten word that The Batman could be very different from its cinematic predecessors insofar that it may even see a genre shift.

After Justice League failed to provide the franchise with its big Avengers moment at the box office, it was clear that the Dceu was in trouble and in need of some reorientation, but with strong reviews and an impressive opening weekend predicted for the upcoming Aquaman, there’s a chance that this superhero saga might pull through after all.
What’s more, once Arthur Curry’s solo debut has arrived in cinemas, it seems that Warner Bros. may still have one more trick up their sleeve before 2019 comes our way, with Revenge of The Fans’ Mario-Francisco Robles taking to Twitter to share the latest rumor:
“Hearing whispers that #DC will give us one last gift before the holiday break at the end of December. No idea what it is, big or small. Could be a trailer, or an announcement.
Regardless, they’re gonna throw us one more bone before the New Year.

As of earlier this month, the core cast of DC’s upcoming female team-up movie Birds of Prey is complete, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smolett-Bell and Rosie Perez joining the comic book universe alongside Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn as Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya, respectively.
Previous leaked story details have told us that the gang will be joining forces to rescue Cassandra Cain – one of the Batgirls from the source material – from the clutches of Gotham-based crime boss Black Mask. Thanks to Mario-Francisco Robles of Revenge of the Fans, we now have even more plot details on Birds of Prey, though as with any report like this, we’d advise taking it with a grain of salt.

Today’s announcement that Henry Cavill has been cast as Geralt of Rivia, the hero of Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher series was greeted with surprise and excitement by fans of the books and games and trepidation by those looking forward to Man of Steel 2.
The last few weeks have seen intense contract negotiations between Cavill’s team and Warner Bros., with both sides apparently failing to reach an agreement on a further multi-movie deal for him to continue playing the Man of Steel. Add to that the fact that he’s picking up Geralt of Rivia’s twin blades for what’s sure to be a lengthy shoot and you might think his days in the cape are numbered.
Well, Mario-Francisco Robles over at Revenge of the Fans has explained why we shouldn’t write off Cavill’s involvement in the Worlds of DC franchise quite yet.

Yesterday brought the news that Warner Bros. has added yet another DC movie onto their ever-growing slate of comic book films in various stages of development – namely, a solo pic for Superman’s cousin Supergirl, which would of course be separate from The CW series based on the character. This one looks to be more important than most of WB’s DC ideas floating around, too, as Revenge of the Fans is reporting that it could even act as a replacement for Man of Steel 2.
As we know, plans for the long-anticipated sequel for Henry Cavill’s hero have faltered of late and, according to RotF’s Mario-Francisco Robles, that’s led to WB looking to turn their attention towards Supergirl in Big Blue’s place. What’s more, the studio hopes the benefit of a female lead will help the project ride the coattails of Wonder Woman. As Robles says,...

Yesterday brought a huge info-dump of details on what director Matt Reeves has got planned for The Batman. The core of it was that Ben Affleck definitely won’t be back, as Reeves is looking to tell a story about a Bruce Wayne who’s 15-20 years younger than the version we’ve got to know in the franchise so far.
Mario-Francisco Robles of Revenge of the Fans broke the news and at the time, revealed that Year One was being bandied about as a potential influence for The Batman. This caused fans to worry that Reeves was going to retread ground previously covered by Christopher Nolan in Batman Begins. Following that outcry, Robles has now followed up his report by clarifying that the movie will not be “based off” Frank Miller’s comic book. Rather, that’s just what his sources have been comparing Reeves’ plans to.

Late last night, we heard that some news pertaining to The Batman would drop today, and though we may be waiting for the official word from Warner Bros., Revenge of the Fans has managed to dig up some dirt in the process. Please keep in mind that nothing has been confirmed at this point, but what we’re about to discuss sounds more than plausible.
Naturally, we expect for director Matt Reeves to craft his own tale spotlighting the Caped Crusader, but like any other filmmaker venturing into the superhero genre, he’s going to be looking to the comic books from which they originated. According to Mario-Francisco Robles, there’s one in particular inspiring this piece – and that’s Batman: Year One.

By now, I think many journalists are waking up in cold sweat during the middle of the night shouting “Snyder cut!” simply because we’ve written so much about something we can’t be too sure of ever seeing the light of day. All jests aside though, I, for one, would love to see what could’ve been had Joss Whedon not been brought aboard to revamp Justice League.
So, despite Zack Snyder’s vision technically not being able to find realization due to studio interference from the time cameras began rolling, every piece of footage he shot is indeed lying around somewhere. And on a day when a photo of Superman supposedly produced during the auteur’s time spent overseeing the team-up flick makes its rounds online, the latest bit of chatter couldn’t have come at a more opportune time.

Earlier this week, Justice League star Ray Fisher spoke excitedly about what other DC projects he’d like to be a part of as Victor Stone Aka Cyborg, the character he first appeared as in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and was initially expected to show up as across multiple productions – such as Justice League 2, Flashpoint and, ultimately, his own standalone venture.
However, a new bit of speculation has arisen that suggests Fisher’s career in the Dceu has been brought to a premature end. As Mario-Francisco Robles of Revenge of the Fans argues, Arrow star Manu Bennett’s recent comments that he’s no longer allowed to appear as Deathstroke on TV because of Joe Manganiello’s solo movie being in the works implies that DC is currently very strict about sharing characters between the two mediums.
If that’s true, this would mean Cyborg’s a TV-exclusive character from now on.

Over the past few days, a slew of rumours regarding the future of several Dceu pillars have been making the rounds. Perhaps most devastating was the cancellation of Flashpoint, an adaptation of the Geoff Johns-penned five-part comic book miniseries.
Rooted in an alternate DC Universe where Thomas Wayne is Batman, Superman is being held captive as a lab rat by the Us government, and Cyborg is the world’s quintessential hero, it would have made for a fantastic film. Evidently, though, the studio has decided to “cut their losses” and make a solo Flash pic instead.
Unfortunately, the hearsay is believed to coincide with the departure of Ben Affleck from his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman. A source close to the studio, who typically “errs on the side of caution,” referred to the two-time Academy Award winner’s time as the Caped Crusader as “toast,” “gone” and “done.”

This week brought with it some upsetting news for DC fans, as word has it that the upcoming Flash solo movie won’t be an adaptation of the reality-warping Flashpoint storyline anymore. As we’ve been teased a lot about what this could involve, including roles for Wonder Woman and an alternate Batman, among other things, it’s disappointing to hear that it won’t be coming to the big screen.
WB has yet to comment on the matter – obviously – but according to Mario-Francisco Robles of Revenge of the Fans, a lot of it has to do with Ben Affleck finally making a decision about his future with the Dceu. And it looks like he’s decided to depart the franchise. Or at least, that’s what sources are saying.

Aside from those projects already in active development (see: Aquaman, Shazam!), the DC Extended Universe is said to be in a holding pattern until The Batman moves forward.
Just yesterday, it was reported that writer-director Matt Reeves was still hard at work on his screenplay for the Caped Crusader’s next solo adventure, and that the likes of Batgirl and Chris McKay’s Nightwing movie have been placed on ice until such a time as Reeves is ready to shift The Batman into production.
That makes a lot of sense, too, as the Powers That Be likely want to cement Bruce Wayne’s place in the Dceu – regardless of who winds up playing the Dark Knight – before Warner’s shared universe can take the next step. And speaking of franchise developments, industry sleuth Mario-Francisco Robles brings word today that Matthew Vaughn of Kingsman: The Golden Circle is still in the...

Four days ago, the DC community was placed on red alert after online movie pundit John Campea claimed to have caught wind of some “really bad news” concerning the DC Extended Universe.
Before we get into the weeds, we should stress that Campea’s track record has been pretty solid when it comes to Warner’s superhero franchise, as he was the first to break news that Jake Gyllenhaal had met with Matt Reeves about potentially headlining The Batman – presumably at the expense of Ben Affleck (Justice League), whose career as Gotham’s Caped Crusader appears to be nearing an end.
However, Campea’s gloomy forecast is yet to transpire, leading fellow industry sleuth Mario-Francisco Robles to publish a new, comprehensive report that attempts to find out exactly what’s going on with the standalone Batman movie. And to cut a long story short, it appears Matt Reeves is still...

Once more the future of Warner Bros.’ Dceu is up in the air, a cinematic universe with the dubious honor of its backstage politics being far more entertaining that the mostly crappy films they put out. The latest bombshell is that the much-publicized Joss Whedon written and directed-Batgirl movie isn’t going to happen.

Man of Steel 2 is in active development, make no mistake about it. The sequel to Zack Snyder’s divisive franchise-starter may have invariably slipped down the pecking order over at Warner Bros. – who are still in the process of whipping their DC Extended Universe into shape after the disappointments of Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad and, more recently, Justice League – but it is on the way, as was confirmed by a report just yesterday.
When it will arrive is obviously unknown, but if it wasn’t for the poor performance of the aforementioned team-up flick, we may have already received an official announcement from the studio. That’s because the original plan was to reveal Man of Steel 2‘s release date, and who will be directing it, this month. So, what happened then? The times, they are a changin’ over at Warner Bros. and in particular, their DC Films division.
As you no doubt know by now, the studio is already beginning to implement a major shake-up, beginning with the appointment of Walter Hamada (It, The Conjuring) as president. Further down the chain of command, Geoff Johns and former DC Films head Jon Berg will now assume different roles entirely – the former will work alongside Roy Lee (It: Chapter Two), while Johns is expected to hold an “advisory role” within the DC Extended Universe henceforth.
Not only that, but WB will no longer operate under a greenlighting-by-committee policy, with Warner Bros. Pictures Chairman Toby Emmerich expected to answer to “no one but Warner Bros. Entertainment CEO Kevin Tsujihara.” Furthermore, Sue Kroll, a 23-year veteran of the studio, has parted ways with Warner Bros., leaving the power to green-light future DC movies solely in the hands of Emmerich.

However that may be, there have been suggestions that Affleck’s days donning the cape and cowl are essentially numbered, which has, in turn, spawned rumors that Jake Gyllenhaal (or Jon Hamm, perhaps?) will swoop in and become the ninth incarnation of the Caped Crusader.
