"You flew fast. Mom would be proud." You have to watch this awesome short film titled The Cloud Racer - from director Joe Sill and his production studio Impossible Objects. This CG animated sci-fi short is a proof of concept and it's an exhilarating experience introducing us to the "next great race." Made entirely on the Unreal engine, it's an example of how far you can push visuals with any idea. A struggling outerling pilots his race-craft over the apocalyptic streets of future Los Angeles in a fierce aerial competition against the much better funded corporate teams, his trusted father (who also serves as his mechanic) by his side. Set in a desolate, demolished LA in 2055, the city is now known as "Ghost City". It's pretty much The Phantom Menace podracing scene but it also reminds of the Wachowskis' Speed Racer as well (which I still think is underrated). With performances by Heston Horwin,...

The Brad Furman-directed crime thriller City of Lies has had quite a journey, but the Saban Films release finally hits theaters today before dropping on digital and on demand April 9.
Based on the book, LAbyrinth, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Randall Sullivan and adapted by Christian Contreras, City of Lies follows the investigation into the infamous murder of iconic rap artist Christopher Wallace aka the hip hop legend Notorious B.I.G.
Oscar and Emmy winner Forest Whitaker stars as Jack Jackson, a journalist who teams up with LAPD detective Russell Poole (Johnny Depp), who spent nearly 20 years trying to solve the murder. The two of them try to find the truth. They explore why the case remains cold — and why a secret division of the LAPD is seemingly set on keeping it that way.
It’s not a lie that City of Lies went through a lot to make its way to the theaters.

"Hello Jonathan - this is our future." Vertical Ent. has released an official trailer for the anthology horror film Phobias, a freaky new horror thriller "from the executive producers of Ready or Not." This originally premiered at last year's Mammoth Film Festival, arriving on VOD later this month. Five dangerous patients, suffering from extreme phobias locked in at a government testing facility, are put to the ultimate test by a crazed doctor and his quest to weaponize fear. The film's main segments are: "Vehophobia" (fear of driving), "Hoplophobia" (fear of weapons), "Robophobia" (fear of robots or A.I.), "Atelophobia" (fear of not doing something right), "Ephebiphobia" (fear of youth), and "Outpost 37" (fear of a crazy doctor experimenting on people). Directed by Camilla Belle, Maritte Lee Go, Joe Sill, Jess Varley, Chris von Hoffmann; and starring Alexis Knapp, Charlotte McKinney, Lauren Miller Rogen, and Leonardo Nam. This looks freaky. "Head straight there, don't slow down, I'll handle the Mtf." Time to ride into the future. Talented visual storyteller Joe Sill has dropped a new short film online. His latest project is called Autonomous, a proof-of-concept short for a bigger project created using CG animation. The film is an animated cyberpunk thriller centered around a motorcycle gang of traffickers in a world of autonomous vehicles. Yuri and her brother Nyx face off against the Metro Task Force as they transport an important package to a client. Featuring the voices of: Liz Morey, Keong Sim, Joe Biacno, Lulu Picart, Kaylin Lee Clinton, Shawn Williams, Steven Sherman. This reminds me a bit of the motorcycle CG short Ruin years ago, which was filmmaker Wes Ball's big break into the industry. This one has a whole different look and feel, but is just as impressive and as sleek as Ruin. I love the vehicle designs in this,...

A low-key supernatural thriller in the vein of “The Prophecy” and “Stigmata,” “Stray” makes good use of the insider/outsider narrative trope in its unfolding of a unique, engaging tale. Combining far-east mysticism with a standard police procedural, director Joe Sill deftly keeps his characters and their development front-and-center, with the central conflict of the story used as a means to that end rather than the other way around.

"That little girl, is at the center of it... because she's special." Screen Media Films has debuted the first official trailer for a new indie action film titled Stray, the feature debut of filmmaker Joe Sill, featuring a screenplay co-written by filmmaker J.D. Dillard. The thriller is about an orphaned teenager who forms an unlikely friendship with a detective. Together they investigate her mother's murder, and uncover the supernatural force she possesses that proves to be a threat to her family. Starring Karen Fukuhara as Nori, along with Japanese Pop Star Miyavi, Christine Woods, Ross Partridge, Takayo Fischer, and Kiran Deol. I like the look of this, and this trailer has some cool reveals in it. Worth a look. 2019 should be a considerable leap year for J.D. Dillard, as both his sophomore film Sweetheart and the project he co-wrote in Joe Sill’s Stray should drop. Greenlit by Sundance twice, Dillard came to prominence with microbudgeted Sleight (extended intro) being launched out of the Next section. The Blumhouse-backed horror survival pic was placed in Dillard’s lap almost directly after his Sleight premiere. The under wraps shot in Fiji project has had plenty of time in post as filming took place in mid 2017. The only J.D. Dillard related news to drop in 2018 was that he co-wrote Joe Sill’s directorial debut project Stray. Another tight-lipped Blumhouse production that has been in the can since 2017, we’ve been without updates for more than a year. Dillard broke big with Sleight at Sundance in 2016 and production on his sophomore project took place way back in June of 2017. Sweetheart stars Kiersey Clemons, Emory Cohen and Hanna Mangan Lawrence.

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s international distribution company Telepool is investing in a genre slate from indie producer Eric B. Fleischman, along with Maurice Fadida’s Kodiak Pictures, Variety has learned exclusively.
Fleischman was a Sundance Film Festival breakout star in 2016, when at age 26, he made a strong showing with “Sleight” and “Carnage Park.” His company, Defiant Studios, will receive a cash infusion for several horror-thrillers, beginning with the film “Phobias,” which is currently in production.
The Smiths acquired Telepool in late June, with Marc Forster and his shop Elysian Fields. This marks the first significant investment and U.S. expansion for Telepool, a standalone theatrical and multi-platform distribution entity with a big presence in Europe. Kodiak is a producer on David Ayer’s upcoming “The Tax Collector,” starring Shia Labeouf, as well as Gerard Butler’s “Keepers.”

"They destroyed our home!" Now this is must watch short film. There's a new unofficial Star Wars fan film available to watch online made by a filmmaker named Joe Sill that is about a father and daughter. It's one of the first fan films inspired by Star Wars: The Force Awakens (so far) that really captures the spirit of that movie, specifically how amazing Daisy Ridley's character Rey is. In this film, Andra Nechita stars as Kara, and there's a really big reveal with her near the end that makes this even more exciting. To top it off, this has impressive technical aspects including outstanding VFX work (X-Wings, Tie Fighters galore!) and tons of futuristic action that actually feels real. I'm so impressed I had to watch it twice. Give it a look. Director Joe Sill explains his idea behind this (via Yahoo): "I grew up on the...

I've got another fantastic Star Wars fan film for you to watch today. It's called Kara, and it follows the journey of a father and daughter who come across a Rebel pilot after being shot down in an aerial battle with the Empire on either Tatooine or Jakku. They then find themselves in a fight for their lives against a small team of Stormtroopers hell bent on killing them.
The short was written and directed by Joe Sill, and the story it tells is actually kind of touching. This is a solid production that was shot well, and the effects are decent. It's definitely one of the better fan films I've seen in recent years, so it's worth checking out. Also, in case you missed the last Star Wars fan film I posted, Rebel Scum, make sure to click here to watch it.

Ten Thousand Hours is a fantastic and well made short film directed by Joe Sill. This is the same guy that directed the sci-fi short Expo. This new movie isn't a sci-fi film. It's not an action film. It's a solid drama that tells a story about naive ambition. It follows a young architect who "falls from grace with an ambitious design that spirals him into a world of ego and obsession."
The film is a character focused piece that was kickstarted and made on a budget of $6,500. Here's the synopsis:
Jack is an eager young assistant at a top architecture firm. When a colleague's pitch for a prestigious client fails, Jack steps out of line to propose an impromptu design that impresses everybody. He commissions the firm’s biggest project - and also becomes its architect.
We follow Jack into a downward spiral of Ego, overcommitment, and obsession as...

Here's a beautifully made short sci-fi film called Expo that tells the touching story of a mother who works on the Moon trying to earn money to save her daughter. The movie was directed by Joe Sill from a script written by Dag Shapshak.
The film was shot incredibly well, and the visual effects were clean and solid. I like that it tells a solid human tale in a fantastic and intense sci-fi setting. Here's the synopsis:
