Avengers filmmaker Joss Whedon famously jumped ship to DC to rewrite and finish Zack Snyder’s original Justice League. But a couple of years prior, Whedon was adamant that he wouldn’t do what Snyder has done for quite a few of his comic book properties.

There have been a few times where Snyder’s films have been watered down when they hit theaters. Moviegoers often see a slightly shorter version of Snyder movies than the movies the director envisioned in his head. This has resulted in Snyder releasing director’s cuts, which he’s become known for over the years. The director’s cuts show the actor’s full vision for his projects in all of its glory, with minimal or no interference from the studio.

We’ve known from the start that director Zack Snyder intended to released extended director’s cuts of his movies Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire (read our review Here) and Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver (read our review of that one Here), which were rated PG-13 in their shorter form. At the start of this month, we learned that the director’s cut of Rebel Moon: Part One has been given a R rating for brutal bloody violence and gore, sexual content, graphic nudity and language. Now the Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that the director’s cut of Rebel Moon: Part Two has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore throughout, strong sexuality, nudity and some language.

Zack Snyder’s two-part sci-fi epic Rebel Moon is now streaming in full on Netflix, with last year’s Part One: A Child of Fire followed by this year’s Part Two: The Scargiver.
But the Rebel Moon saga is far from over, because Zack Snyder’s Director’s Cuts of both movies are coming to Netflix. And they’re said to each be around One Hour Longer.
Of particular note, the Rebel Moon Director’s Cuts will be rated “R,” promising the bloody violence that wasn’t found in the PG-13 versions of the two movies currently on Netflix.
For starters, Rebel Moon – Part One: Director’s Cut has been rated “R” for…
“Brutal bloody violence and gore, sexual content, graphic nudity and language.”
We don’t yet have a release date for these Director’s Cuts. Stay tuned.

Following a limited theatrical release, director Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire (read our review Here) was released through the Netflix streaming service back in December, then Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver (read our review of that one Here) reached the service last month… but we’ve known from early on that these PG-13 versions of the movies wouldn’t be the only versions we’d see. Snyder has also put together extended director’s cut of both films, which will each have around an hour of additional footage. They’re expected to be released through Netflix sometime this summer, possibly in August, and the director’s cut of Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire just got its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. It earned an R for brutal bloody violence and gore, sexual content, graphic nudity and language.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver is a drastically more watchable film than its predecessor, which spent so much time place-setting that it forgot to tell an actual story. The Scargiver is, essentially, the propulsive second and third acts that Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire was missing. All the heroes that our heroine, Kora (Sofia Boutella), collected in the first film have finally arrived on the farming planet of Veldt, ready to help defend it against the encroaching fascist armies of the Motherworld. From here, it’s basically the fast and loose Seven Samurai redux that A Child of Fire had been hinting at from minute one, with our legendary heroes helping to prepare this village of pacifist farmers to go to war.

What was initially a plan for a Star Wars film rejected by Disney seems to have transformed into the worst flop in the career of director and writer Zack Snyder, as the recently released Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, the sequel to Rebel Moon, is once again panned by critics, with the ratings listing it as Snyder’s worst movie – yes, worse than even the horrible Sucker Punch and the first part of Rebel Moon. And while Snyder’s ambition cannot be denied, and we can expect the extended R-rated cuts to receive better ratings, it seems that Rebel Moon will be, on an overall level, considered a failure.

Love him or hate him, you cannot deny Zack Snyder garners more attention than most filmmakers working today. It’s no surprise that his fans have been champing at the bit to see his the second part of his dark sci-fi epic, which it titled Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver.
Snyder debuted Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Light in December. That film introduced viewers to a futuristic science fiction world, drawing from beloved tropes about scrappy rebels, mysterious prophecies, and a totalitarian empire. The movie pulls ideas from Star Wars, the samurai films of Akira Kurosawa, and Frank Herbert’s Dune imbues them with his signature gritty style to create something that feels very nerdy and very Snyder.

Zack Snyder continues his Netflix partnership with his space opera Rebel Moon and I was thrilled to get the chance to chat with him about it. Whether you love or hate him, you can’t deny Zack Snyder’s impact on film during his career. Rebel Moon: Part 2 – The Scargiver is the conclusion to Zack Snyder’s space opera. The story came from Snyder, who co-wrote the screenplay with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten. Everyone who’s seen even one Zack Snyder movie knows that the filmmaker has a very specific and, in many ways, unique approach to his movies. Snyder is a visionary for some and a failure for others, but he doesn’t leave you indifferent, that is certain. And while we could discuss many of his projects in light of these comments, we are going to focus on his current project, the two-part sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, whose second part is going to be released soon.
Snyder has sat down to discuss the second version of his movie. Namely, we know that an R-rated Director’s Cut of both parts will be released by Netflix at a later date, while the two initial versions we’ve seen are reduced PG-13 versions. This is nothing unusual for Snyder, who has revealed that the R-rated cuts are truly brutal and very different from the original versions.

A car crash interview with a delusional prince, a new series adaptation featuring Patricia Highsmith’s most infamous creation, the second part of Zack Snyder’s pricey space opera and a paranormal detective show set within Neil Gaiman’s celebrated Sandman universe are among the big titles hitting Netflix in April.
Debuting April 4 is Ripley, Netflix’s glossy new take on Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. Fresh from the critical acclaim he received for All of Us Strangers, Irish actor Andrew Scott will be inhabiting the role of Tom Ripley in an adaptation that will be screened in black-and-white. The eight-episode series also stars Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, and acting newcomer Eliot Sumner (son of Sting and Trudie Styler) as Freddie Miles. Written and directed by Oscar winner Steven Zaillian, Ripley was originally set for release on Showtime before it found a new home on Netflix.

Zack Snyder is currently one of the most prominent directors in Hollywood, garnering both praise and criticism. While he has demonstrated skills in directing a specific type of film, his work has also faced its share of criticism and it’s not hard to see why. He has worked with many actors during his run in the Dceu, and that especially includes Ray Fisher, who recently celebrated the anniversary of the legendary Snyder Cut edition of Justice League.
Zack Snyder has faced criticism, with some labeling him a ‘hack’ for his film portrayal and perceived fixation on unnecessary themes and biblical imagery. This was pretty much evident in the Dceu film Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. That said, his version of Justice League released a few years ago proved to be a huge success.

"I have no choice... but to fight!" Here we go again. Netflix has launched the main official trailer for Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver, the finale of Zack Snyder's sci-fi saga. The first half, Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire, is now playing on Netflix worldwide after launching in December last year. There is also supposedly an R-rated "Director's Cut" arriving sometime soon (maybe better to wait for that). Rebel Moon is an original Zack Snyder creation, a Star Wars-esque sci-fi thriller about a ragtag team of rebels. In a universe controlled by a corrupt militaristic government, the moon of Veldt is threatened by the Imperium, the army of the Mother World controlled by "Regent Balisarius". Sofia Boutella stars as Kora, a former Imperium fighter who rallies warriors from across the galaxy to fight back. Part Two features an ensemble cast lead by Djimon Hounsou,...

Zack Snyder currently making his own cinematic universe after his tumultuous run in the Dcu with the Rebel Moon films. 2023’s Rebel Moon and its upcoming sequel are Snyder’s own creations and Netflix gave him complete freedom to execute his vision, unlike his days at Warner Bros. While Rebel Moon proved to be underwhelming, it set up an exciting arc for a sequel.

Sofia Boutella is striking back at the critics who “demolished” Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire in their negative reviews of the sci-fi film.
The actress recently opened up to Vulture about her reaction to the rough reviews the Zack Snyder-directed film received last year when it released on Netflix.
“I always thought that I was fully armed to take on those punches, and then I read the critics that came down on Rebel Moon and it really affected me,” Boutella, who plays Kora in the movie, said. “And I’m just gonna be honest about it. I feel like I’m carrying it for everybody that cared so much about this project, and that’s what affected me. Not the way I look. If anything, I’ve been pretty lucky and people like my work in it, but the movie was criticized.”

Ultron is one of the most nefarious and tricky foes the Avengers have had to deal with in the pages of Marvel Comics. However, the character was underutilized in his big-screen debut in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. The film’s climax sees the villainous AI disintegrated, leaving little room for Ultron’s return in future MCU projects.

Spoilers for "Rebel Moon – Part One" follow.
Zack Snyder's sci-fi film "Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire" was released on Netflix on December 23, 2023, to middling reviews and not a lot of ballyhoo. Snyder's usual amount of visual busyness and turgid, adolescent navel-gazing was instantly recognized by the filmmaker's fans and detractors, being enjoyed or hated accordingly. The story of "Rebel Moon" is a straightforward sci-fi version of "Seven Samurai." A grain-harvesting villager named Kora (Sofia Boutella) finds that her home planet has been targeted for plunder by an evil, Nazi-like space empire. Rather than sacrifice their harvest, she gathers together a modest group of desperate warriors, hoping they will have the gumption to fight off the Empire when they arrive for their grain.
"Part One" detailed the gathering of the warriors, which included a roguish scamp (Charlie Hunnam), a former drunk (Djimon Honsou), a sword-wielding...

Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire (read our review Here), the first part of director Zack Snyder’s two-part sci-fi epic, has been available to watch on the Netflix streaming service for over a month, and now we’re getting ready for the April 19th release of the follow-up Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver. With its release date just two months away, Rebel Moon Part Two has received its official rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board: PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, brief strong language and suicide. Also earning a PG-13 rating this week is the Blumhouse horror film Imaginary, which reaches theatres on March 8th. Imaginary got its PG-13 for some violent content, drug material and language.
Neither one of these ratings comes as a surprise. Many Blumhouse movies, from Insidious to Five Nights at Freddy’s, M3GAN, and Night Swim have PG-13 ratings. As for Rebel Moon,...

"The Avengers" writer/director Joss Whedon may be long banished from the Marvel Cinematic Universe now, but his influence remains seeped into the whole enterprise. The screwball, genre-aware dialogue Whedon writes is now the McU's house style — if not a hindrance. Other writers have been aping it to diminishing returns ever since.
The behind-the-scenes book "MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios" by Gavin Edwards, Dave Gonzales, and Joanna Robinson details how Marvel Studios first hired Whedon. His gain was another writer's loss; Zak Penn had already written a script for "The Avengers," but Whedon threw his version out and started from scratch. "There was a script. There just wasn't a script I was going to film a word of," Whedon said. This move is an early harbinger of how Whedon would make his style into Marvel's own.
As "MCU" notes, this wasn't the first time this had happened to Penn.

Yesterday, we shared some quotes from director Zack Snyder and co-writer Kurt Johnstad where they gave some information on what will be seen in the extended cut of Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire (read our review of the PG-13 cut Here), which will be released through the Netflix streaming service sometime after Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver reaches the service on April 19th. Speaking of Rebel Moon: Part Two, Johnstad also told The Hollywood Reporter what can be expected from that film: “a nonstop action rollercoaster ride of twists and turns.”
When asked how the second half of the story compares to the first, the co-writer answered, “I would say that it’s definitely its own movie, and it’s a very different movie. It’s not an assembly of the team. The team is built, and now it’s why they fight. I think [the PG-13 cut] is two hours,...

Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire debuted this weekend on Netflix, and while critics were cool with the film (with one exception – yours truly), the film is a hit with viewers. While the official numbers will likely only be released later today or tomorrow, the streamer took advantage of the hype, releasing the first teaser trailer for the sequel, Rebel Moon: Part Two: The Scargiver – yesterday.
Many fans have noted that some of the co-stars in the movie, including Djimon Hounsou as General Titus, Staz Nair as Tarak, and Cleopatra Coleman as Devra Bloodaxe, have limited screen time. In a universe controlled by a corrupt militaristic government, the moon of Veldt is threatened by the forces of the Imperium, the army of the Mother World controlled by "Regent Balisarius". Spoiler Alert: This story contains major spoilers for “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire,” now streaming on Netflix.
Kurt Johnstad and Zack Snyder first started talking about creating “Rebel Moon” in 1997. In college, Snyder came up with the idea of a “Dirty Dozen” movie set in space, and the two would discuss their favorite films as a launching point for what eventually became the sci-fi world of “Rebel Moon.”
“’What’s your favorite science-fiction movie?’ ‘Oh, ‘Star Wars,’’ or I would say ‘Seven Samurai.’ We would always hit these really cinematic wavelengths, certainly as a child with cinema who went to the movies. All of those influences, we can’t deny the impact,” Johnstad says.
After a long process that involved Snyder initially pitching the movie to Lucasfilm as a “Seven Samurai”-inspired “Star Wars” story, their vision finally came to life with Netflix’s two-part space epic...

The Msg Sphere in Las Vegas is getting a makeover for Netflix‘s release of Zack Snyder’s new sci-fi epic Rebel Moon. The massive dome, equipped with 1.2 million LED lights, is consistently making headlines thanks to several clever promos taking advantage of the display’s visibility in America’s Adult Disneyland. Snyder’s films are always an event for his dedicated fanbase, and Netflix is sparing no expense to promote the filmmaker’s Star Wars-like franchise starter.
The Rebel Moon Msg Sphere display features Jimmy, a character from Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire, voiced by Anthony Hopkins and played by Dustin Ceithamer. Jc-1435, known more simply as Jimmy, was a sentient machine that, centuries ago, defended a since-slain king as part of the Mechanics Miltarium. As the promo plays across the gargantuan structure, Jimmy surveys the Divorce Capitol of the World before reaching out to crowds with his mechanical hand.

Plot: In a dark corner of the universe controlled by a Fascist regime called The Motherworld, a former soldier named Kora (Sofia Boutella) tries to escape her past by living as a simple farmer on a peaceful moon called The Veldt. When that moon is invaded by The Motherworld and her friends are threatened, Kora sets off to recruit an army of soldiers to battle with the Motherworld and end their tyranny.
Review: Take Star Wars, a liberal amount of Seven Samurai, The Magnificent Seven, and Battle Beyond the Stars, and mix it in with a heavy helping of Heavy Metal (both the magazine and the film), and you end up with Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon. While a bit overstuffed (Snyder maybe made it a little too lean at just over two hours), it’s nonetheless a deliriously entertaining sci-fi epic that one could easily call the Best Star Wars Movie Never Made.

This article contains major spoilers for "Rebel Moon."
Filmmaker Zack Snyder knows a thing or two about kicking off a franchise in style. Previously considered the heir apparent to Christopher Nolan himself, Snyder was hand-picked by the "The Dark Knight" director to shepherd a new DC universe with 2013's "Man of Steel" and eventually brought things to a fitting (if premature) conclusion with the delayed release of "Zack Snyder's Justice League." Now, for the first time in his career, the divisive storyteller will have a chance to end things on his own terms.
Snyder's creative choices since his roller coaster of an experience in the world of superheroes have skewed noticeably towards original works. Whether by design or a by-product of his approach to world-building, his most recent efforts haven't shied away from setting up rich new worlds to explore in multiple movies to come, like "Army of the Dead.

To celebrate the release of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part One, we spoke to the director and stars of the film.
Set in space, Rebel Moon sees an evil villainous sect invade a humble planet in order to harvest their crops. However, one woman stands up against the wicked regime and seeks out the best fighters across the galaxy to unite in her cause.
We spoke to Zack Snyder about crafting his space legacy, especially the character design of beloved robot Jimmy. We also spoke with Sofia Boutella and Ed Skrein about playing the main hero and the dastardly villain respectively, as well as working with stunt teams on fight sequences.
We chatted to Michel Huisman, Ray Fisher, and E Duffy about the varying levels of honour within the film whilst we also spoke with Djimon Housou and Staz Nair about how Rebel Moon adapts from world history and corruption.

The confused nature of the theatrical window for streamer-owned films reached a new level of absurdity with Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. Not only is this blockbuster behemoth merely the first installment of a two-part film—the second, subtitled The Scargiver, is set to be released in April—it’s a truncated version of its maker’s substantially longer preferred cut, which makes the film two-thirds of one-half of a story.
Rebel Moon began life as a Star Wars project before Snyder’s concept was turned down, and the resulting film often sounds as though the director and co-writers Kurt Johnsta and Shay Hatten did little more to their draft than perform a find-and-replace for any terms trademarked by Disney. The film even piggybacks off of George Lucas’s indebtedness to Kurosawa Akira: Its protagonist, Kora (Sofia Boutella), is a disillusioned veteran of the “Motherworld” autocracy who,...
