Mindy Kaling’s upcoming Netflix comedy series set in the world of pro basketball has added three new cast members, Variety has learned.
Brenda Song, Scott MacArthur, and Drew Tarver are all joining the show alongside previously announced series lead Kate Hudson. The untitled series received a 10-episode order at Netflix in June 2021.
The official logline states, “When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Hudson) is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”
Song will star as Ali Lee, the chief of staff of The Waves. The character is said to be born and raised on the South...

The highest-ranked TV shows of 2023 on the popular review site RottenTomatoes.com span multiple genres. Not surprisingly, there are two crime shows with this distinction, both fronted by formidable female cops. The final season of the gripping Happy Valley (AMC+) centers on British Sgt. Catherine Cawood (a powerful Sarah Lancashire), while dark comedy Deadloch (Prime Video) shows bickering partners solving murders in a quirky Tasmanian town. Then there’s a trio of coming-of-age stories: The irresistible Reservation Dogs (Hulu) depicts the blossoming of four Native American teens on an Oklahoma reservation; Primo (Freevee) is about ambitious Mexican American teen Rafa (Ignacio Diaz-Silverio) and his unique family; and comedy The Other Two (Max) shows the struggle of millennial sibs (Heléne Yorke and Drew Tarver) when their baby brother (Case Walker) attains overnight fame. The only sci-fi winner: Foundation (Apple TV+), based on Isaac Asimov’s iconic trilogy about warring empires. Tasty...

The first day of the SAG-AFTRA strike kicked off with plenty of commotion and loads of signage.
SAG-AFTRA and WGA members across the United States rallied outside the offices of the studio giants to let everyone know the labor force would not be going to work today, or for any foreseeable future date, until a fair and equitable contract agreement had been met. SAG President Fran Drescher met her colleagues outside Netflix Studios, and had some words for Bob Iger.
In fact, lots of picketers had feelings about the Disney CEO’s recent statements, and that was reflected in a plethora of Iger-centric signs.
Despite the heat in Los Angeles, showrunner Mike Schur and actors Sean Astin and Ike Barinholtz marched outside of the Paramount lot. Actors Mandy Moore and Ben Schwartz were seen outside of Disney. Rosario Dawson was seen outside of Fox Studios and Matt Dallas, Chloe Fineman,...

Henry Cavill’s swan song as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s high fantasy hit “The Witcher” is upon us. The British actor shocked fans late last year when it was announced he would depart the role of the white-haired witcher, who is a monster hunter-for-hire, after Season 3, which the streaming service is releasing in two parts.
The first five episodes arrived on the platform Thursday and found a frustrated Geralt taking Ciri (Freya Allan), a young princess with immense power who is linked to Geralt through destiny, into hiding to protect her from those who seek to capture her for political and magical gains. While in hiding, Ciri is working with the powerful sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), with whom Geralt has a, let’s say, complicated history, to learn to harness and control her powers. Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the series finale of “The Other Two,” titled “Brooke & Cary & Curtis & Lance,” now streaming on Max.
In the season — and now, officially, the series — finale of “The Other Two,” Brooke Dubek (Heléne Yorke) makes an analogy. After months spent chasing proof she’s a good person, Brooke is finally set to win an award for a mental health fundraiser, but she’s terrified of a backlash. “Don’t you remember when Jameela Jamil launched that body positivity app and then everyone accused her of lying about being attacked by bees?” she asks. Her assistant does not.
“The Other Two” was a show for people who do remember the minutiae of minor celebrities and the social media skirmishes surrounding them. For three seasons, the series thrived on specificity, speaking directly to viewers who understood Brooke perfectly (and could throw out a few alternate Jamil...

In one of the silliest running gags of The Other Two’s third and final season, Cary (Drew Tarver) dates a Method actor whose commitment makes Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad antics look like child’s play. As Lucas (Fin Argus) slips from one role to the next, he inhabits each one 24/7 — adopting the personality, habits and even the backstory of whatever serial killer or Hallmark boyfriend he’s playing that week. It’s not until the finale that he stops working long enough for Cary to get a glimpse of the real Lucas, and when he does it turns out he’s not much of anyone at all.
Without a role to disappear into, Lucas is left to wander the forest naked and confused, so disconnected from his own identity that he’s surprised to learn he’s Australian. (“No wonder he books,” Cary mutters.) His booked-and-busy career is...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the series finale of “The Other Two,” titled “Brooke & Cary & Curtis & Lance,” now streaming on Max.
Farewell, “The Other Two.”
The day before it aired its Season 3 finale, co-creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider announced there will not be a fourth season of the beloved comedy series, adding that they “always knew” this was “where we wanted to end” the stories of Brooke and Cary Dubek.
In the series finale, the siblings, after nine episodes of selfishness and depravity, finally show up for the ones they love. On a desperate mission to win an Academy Award for playing gay Albert Einstein, Drew Tarver’s Cary chooses to take a break from acting — despite the movie landing Harry Styles as a love interest — in order to heal himself and repair his friendship with Curtis (Brandon Scott Jones). Meanwhile, as her famous family members’ talent manager,...

Romance and redemption abounded in the series finale of “The Other Two.” Though the third season of the Max comedy series saw Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Cary Dubek (Drew Tarver) take a morally questionable turn at times, both siblings took the chance to make things right in the show’s concluding chapter.
For Brooke, that meant making a big sacrifice for her family and reuniting with her fiancé Lance (Josh Segarra). As Brooke and the family attended the Peabody Awards, where Brooke was set to win an award for her telethon for mental health awareness headlined by her brother ChaseDreams (Case Walker), a scandal erupted when Chase was caught trying to boost his album sales through the project. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Other Two Season 3 finale “Brooke & Cary & Curtis & Lance.”] The Other Two Season 3 has not been easy for Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Cary (Drew Tarver), nor for those closest to them (Josh Segarra‘s Lance and Brandon Scott Jones‘ Curtis). But the finale leaves those key relationships in, if not a good place, a hopeful one. Brooke steps up and takes blame when when Pat (Molly Shannon) and Chase (Case Walker) come under fire. Pat problem is deleted tweets that paint her as a classist elitist with disdain for small town America. Meanwhile, Chase wins a Peabody for a mental health special while exploiting people struggling with mental health to sell albums. After Brooke reconnects with and is honest with Lance, the two reunite. Meanwhile, Cary realizes how he’s been acting and talks to Curtis and turns down the film he’d wanted to score him an Oscar. ...

The Other Two is ending at Max after three seasons. The Thursday, June 29 finale will be the last episode of the series. The cult favorite show stars Drew Tarver as Cary Dubek and Heléne Yorke as Brooke Dubek, the two elder siblings of teen brother, ChaseDreams (Case Walker), who became a pop music sensation overnight. Molly Shannon plays their mother, Pat. Both struggling artists, “the other two” Dubek siblings, struggle for their own fame in the comedy, which is a satire of Hollywood and the music industry. Ken Marino (Streeter), Josh Segarra (Lance), and Brandon Scott Jones (Curtis) also star. “The Other Two” is coming to a close after three seasons amid reports of a toxic workplace.
The beloved and critically acclaimed series will conclude with its current third season, making the June 29 episode the series finale. “The Other Two” was created by former “SNL” writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, who shared a press statement clarifying the decision to end after Season 3 was not due to being canceled.
However, The Hollywood Reporter credited sources saying there were “multiple staff complaints” about showrunners Kelly and Schneider over the course of the production. Per the THR report, the Hr complaints stemmed from behavior on set and in the writers’ room, including allegations that Kelly “verbally abused writers and overworked crew and claims that Schneider enabled his behavior.”
A source tells IndieWire that the report was unfounded and not connected to the series ending. Max representatives did not provide comment to THR.

“The Other Two” will not return for a fourth season, as series creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider announce that they “always knew” Thursday’s Season 3 finale is “where we wanted to end” the stories of Brooke and Cary Dubek.

The Other Two, the cult Max comedy about the inner workings of Hollywood, will conclude June 29 with its season three finale. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the ending comes following multiple staff complaints about creators and showrunners Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider over the course of the production, though several insiders say that there is no causal connection between the complaints and the decision to end with season three.
Multiple sources involved with The Other Two confirm Kelly and Schneider were the subject of complaints to human resources over behavior on set and in the writers room. These include allegations that Kelly verbally abused writers and overworked crew and claims that Schneider enabled his behavior.
According to sources, the production conducted a formal investigation into the behavior, during which Kelly and Schneider were not permitted on set for a period. Kelly and Schneider were formally cleared of wrongdoing and allowed to return.

One of the best parts about The Other Two (there are so many!) is how funny and fun it is. And so TV Insider had to ask the cast — Drew Tarver (Cary), Heléne Yorke (Brooke), Molly Shannon (Pat), Ken Marino (Streeter), Case Walker (Chase), Josh Segarra (Lance), and Brandon Scott Jones (Curtis) — some more light-hearted questions (and one serious) about their characters when we caught up with them ahead of the third season (the finale drops June 29). As we’ve seen in the first nine episodes, there have been some highs and lows (especially the latter) for Cary and Brooke this season. “They’re hovering around their rock bottom, just kind of dipping their toe into the worst moment of their lives. And then this season, I think it becomes too much for the two of them to take, and they finally do reach full peak sadness,” Tarver noted. “I...

Barry (HBO)
Bill Hader’s hitman dramedy grew bleaker and more ambitious with each passing season. The final episodes expanded the scope of Barry’s destruction beyond his loved ones, beyond Hollywood and even beyond L.A.’s criminal underworld into the next generation, as embodied by his wide-eyed son. Meanwhile, the series also broadened its cultural critique to implicate not only the showbiz industry it so knowingly skewered, but the larger population of viewers like us, weaned on the sorts of antihero dramas Barry aimed to deconstruct. — Angie Han

Beef‘s surgical eye for detail elevated what could have just been a playful comedy about two feuding strangers into one of the year’s most outrageously twisty, screamingly funny thrillers — while its curiosity and empathy turned it into one of the year’s most moving dramas. Heléne Yorke knew playing Brooke Dubek in the third season of “The Other Two” would challenge her. The Max comedy series took a few chaotic turns this year, as it charted the Dubek family’s hilarious, at-times dark-sided climb to the top of Hollywood’s food chain.
From breaking off her engagement and becoming invisible — literally and metaphorically — at a Hollywood party, to almost chloroforming Ben Platt and accidentally setting an apartment on fire, the actress recalled feeling “flattered” that the show’s writers would trust her with material that “always ups the ante and makes things funny that feel so deeply sad.”
“It’s incredibly rare as an actor to be given the opportunity to give a 360 performance in that way,” Yorke told TheWrap ahead of the show’s Season 3 finale. “I can’t believe how lucky I am to be on this show and be given the opportunity to do that.

In our Q&a series Popsugar Crush, we get to know some of our favorite celebs' more intimate details - from their first celebrity crush to their best love advice. This month, we're crushing on "The Other Two," "Scream," and "She-Hulk" actor Josh Segarra.
Josh Segarra has had a big year. Last summer, he starred as Pug, a very sweet and kind lawyer, in Disney+'s "She-Hulk" alongside Tatiana Maslany. In March, he entered the "Scream" franchise as a new love interest for Sam (Melissa Barrera). And this May, he returned to Max's "The Other Two" for season three as Lance, the shoe designer-turned-nurse with a heart of gold.
In this week's episode of "The Other Two," released June 22, Lance's ex Brooke (Heléne Yorke) discovers that he's been named People's Sexiest Man Alive - and she absolutely loses her mind. Segarra's own reaction was more subdued. "I texted my mom and my sister,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Other Two Season 3 Episode 9 “Cary Pays Off His Student Loans.”] Could Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Lance (Josh Segarra) find their way back together on The Other Two? It won’t be easy. After all, in the latest episode, she breaks into his apartment, determined to prove that he hired a PR team to get him the cover of People Magazine, ends up wearing prosthetics and hiding out when his extended family stops by, and sets a fire in his building in her attempt to escape without being seen. Lance is the hero who makes sure everyone gets out safely. Here, Segarra talks about filming this episode and teases the June 29 finale. Something I love about Lance is the fact that he’s such a good guy and so sweet, and this episode really highlights that. We can see why he put his extended family group chat as his PR team.

Talking to Heléne Yorke really doesn’t feel like an interview. Sure, during a Friday afternoon Zoom we mostly focus on The Other Two, the criminally underrated Max comedy she stars in, but there’s enough bantering about life and mom things that it quickly shifts into chatting. And it certainly doesn’t hurt that she’s funny and relatable, not entirely unlike her on-screen persona.
One half of the titular Two, Brooke Dubek is a former professional dancer who’s searching for her purpose and examining her identity after her youngest brother becomes a pop sensation overnight. Heléne Yorke has one word that comes to mind when describing her character, Brooke Dubek, in the third season of the Max series, “The Other Two,” and that is insecurity. “I think that she’s displaying her truest, deepest, darkest insecurity in this season. She’s gone about things confidently, blindly and I think this season she gets existential in a way and goes down a path that she can’t get out of,” she tells Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). She attributes this to the wide variety of humor that show creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider bring to the show and its characters. “I would be more surprised if I was not surprised by the creators of the show. I think they are incredibly deft in the writing and their storytelling.”

There’s a long history of great actors who have never won an Emmy Award. Hugh Laurie has a total of 10 Emmy nominations with zero wins for his work but the most glaring oversight is that after six nominations for his iconic role on “House” he never took home the prize. But that’s nothing compared to Angela Lansbury, who went home empty-handed a whopping 18 times. But they’re in good company – including the likes of Jackie Gleason, Desi Arnaz Jr. and Phylicia Rashad.
With Emmy voting starting, I wanted to highlight some shows and performances that have so far gone overlooked by the Emmy Awards. Most of the programs I chose have been completely shut out by the Academy.

Drew Tarver is not oblivious to how Cary Dubek on “The Other Two” has been going in a very unsavory direction. “I feel like Cary has always been dipping his toe in a little bit of bad behavior of finding himself giving into his desperation over the first two seasons,” he reveals to Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). But unlike where Cary was in the first two seasons, Tarver sees him losing his grip on knowing where to dial back his more selfish tendencies. “I feel like this season he’s really struggling with knowing where the line is to where he’s going, getting so self-involved that he’s hurting those around him and himself a little bit more.”

It’s not long after I request a quiet table in the back, reporter’s notebook and tape recorder in hand, that the hostess of this rustic East Village trattoria asks who I’m meeting. When I tell her Drew Tarver and Heléne Yorke, her eyes light up in recognition before she begins listing other stars who frequent the restaurant: Ben Stiller; Tyler, the Creator; Emily Ratajkowski; Ziwe. As I scan the menu, she recommends the chicken Milanese — Pete Davidson’s favorite entrée.
This interaction might sound celebrity-obsessed, verging on grossly superficial. But then again, I’m about to sit down with the stars of “The Other Two,” the hilarious and scathing satire of how fame consumes, corrupts and confines us.
Soon after we’re all seated, Yorke says with a hearty laugh, “Being an actor is, in many ways, a humiliating experience.”

Josh Segarra has been that guy for too long. Now, it’s time to get to know the actor who truly is everywhere.
So far this year, the breakout star of “The Other Two” has appeared in “Scream VI” playing “hot neighbor guy” love interest turned key survivor, entered the MCU with Disney+ series “She-Hulk,” as well as led TV series “The Big Door Prize.” To track Segarra’s screen roots back further, he can even be spotted in Amy Schumer’s “Trainwreck” as the (very memorable) Staten Island hook-up.
Segarra isn’t just that guy anymore: He’s almost synonmous with his iconic lovable “The Other Two” character Lance Arroyo, whose relationship with longtime girlfriend Brooke Dubek (Heléne Yorke) provides some of the best laughs in the critically acclaimed series.
Below, Segarra tells IndieWire how he landed the Sexiest Man Alive title in “The Other Two...

While Curtis Paltrow is, technically, the gay best friend on The Other Two, actor Brandon Scott Jones says he’s far from a “sassy, frivolous side character.” It’s a good thing, too, because after a slow-burning conflict exploded in the latest episode there may not be much of a friendship left.

The eligibility window for this year’s Emmys cycle closed May 31. The hanging episode rule has gone the way of Barry Berkman, which means this week’s TV awards contenders to watch are kind of an odd bunch: mostly episodes that aired earlier in the week or currently airing shows whose full seasons won’t be eligible. But you don’t care about that — you just want to know what shows are worth watching.

Missing “Succession” already?
It’s understandable, considering the critically acclaimed and easily quotable HBO series just had its swan song last Sunday.
Fortunately, if you’ve found yourself looking out at the Hudson River (or whatever the closest body of water to you is), contemplating what you’ll watch next, here’s something for you: a look at the 10 shows other U.S. “Succession” fans have been gravitating towards, according to Whip Media data from its TV Time app, a TV and movie tracking app with more than 25 million registered users. These might pique your interest as a viewer — and more importantly, give you insight into how streamers can effectively cross-promote shows when they have a hit.
The most popular series among “Succession” fans lately has been “White House Plumbers,” the Nixon-era satirical drama starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux. Since debuting on Max on May 1, “Succession” fans have been...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Other Two Season 3 Episode 5, “Cary and Brooke Go to an AIDS Play.”] Let us say how much we need the humor of every person groaning (but not wanting to complain) and settling in as the 8 Gay Men With AIDS: A Poem in Many Hours play takes up their lives for days in the latest The Other Two. Because with the relationships? Well, there’s a lot of heartbreak. The episode begins with Pat (Molly Shannon) and Streeter (Ken Marino) informing Cary (Drew Tarver) and Brooke (Heléne Yorke) of their breakup; they’re at different places in their lives, with her fame making any sort of normalcy impossible. Streeter, unsurprisingly, starts talking about custody and promises Cary and Brooke they have rooms at his place. Then, while Lance (Josh Segarra) sleeps during the play, Brooke, despite insisting she’s out of the industry, spends her time trying to ...

As a famous woman onscreen and off-, it’s not entirely surprising that there are moments when Molly Shannon’s life mirrors that of her The Other Two character, Pat Dubek — until she shares that those common experiences include enjoying anonymity courtesy of a disguise.
In episode four of the Max comedy, which debuts on the service today, billionaire media mogul Dubek is tired of being surrounded by security or getting swarmed by fans every time she leaves the house. After sneaking out without her bodyguards proved to be an ineffective solution, she came up with another idea: donning prosthetics and a wig that made her look like “Grandma Dubek.”
She first tests the persona while meeting her son Cary (Drew Tarver) for coffee. “See! No one can tell, Cary. It’s perfect,” she exclaims. “All I need to do is get into full prosthetic makeup every morning for four hours,...

Considering everything that Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Cary (Drew Tarver) have had to deal with on The Other Two so far, they should have a handle on how to handle some (fun) celebrity PR crises… right? That’s what TV Insider decided to find out when chatting with Yorke and Tarver about Season 3, which does see each of their characters having some form of success after living in the shadows of their famous brother Chase (Case Walker) and mother Pat (Molly Shannon). For example, Drew’s movie Night Nurse finally came out, and Brooke is taking steps to figuring out what it is she exactly wants to do with her life outside of the industry. So what would Brooke and Cary do if one of them went viral for sending a thirsty Dm to another celebrity? “It seems like something they would do,” Yorke admits, with Tarver adding, “You’d spin it as a positive.

There is nothing “other” about HBO Max’s “The Other Two.”
The acclaimed comedy returned for its third season with two new episodes on May 4, wasting no time in reminding viewers and voters why it should be in the running for Best Comedy Series. The showbiz satire, which was created, written, directed and executive-produced by former “Saturday Night Live” writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, picks up in a post-pandemic world with self-obsessed siblings Cary (Drew Tarver) and Brooke (Heléne Yorke) having found success (or something close to it if you squint) as an actor and a manager, respectively. [This story contains some spoilers for the first two episodes of The Other Two season three.]
Molly Shannon and her The Other Two character Pat Dubek may not seem that similar at first glance. But as the actor pushes herself with new challenges this season and the character transforms from a clueless Midwestern mom to a New York media mogul, there have been unmistakeable moments of art imitating life.
The latest installment of the Max series from SNL alums Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider — which stars Case Walker, Drew Tarver and Heléne Yorke as siblings ChaseDreams, Cary and Brooke Dubek — sees Pat become “more powerful than she could have ever imagined,” according to HBO’s logline.
Pat, now a billionaire, has traded her endless and exhausting workdays as a talk show host for a somehow much lighter workload as the head of her own network — and is so famous she can’t leave the house without being surrounded by security. She’s darker and funnier too,...

“The Other Two” star Drew Tarver hopes the HBO Max comedy series goes on for a long time.
The actor, who co-headlines the inventive and comically genius show alongside Heléne Yorke, told TheWrap that the creative force of co-creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider could keep the Dubek family’s adventures going for years, finding new ways to explore the machinations of the entertainment industry in the process.
“I feel like every season has been such a fun level-up for the sad people that are these characters,” Tarver said. “I would love to see these characters go for, you know, 25 seasons (laughs)… I also obviously love everybody on the cast. Any time we spend time together, my life is happy.”
“I hope I haven’t been too desperate in this answer [but] please let us do more!”

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the first two episodes of The Other Two Season 3.] The Other Two has returned, and Season 3 brings more of what we love about the show: humor, heart, and the inability for Chase’s (Case Walker) music career to go at all how he wants. Among the changes glimpsed in the first two episodes, which pick up post-pandemic: Cary’s (Drew Tarver) movie, Night Nurse, is (finally) out, and he meets a method actor who stays in character for the whole shoot for every role; Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Lance (Josh Segarra) are engaged, and now both out of the industry, with him, a nurse and her quitting; Pat (Molly Shannon) has her own network and is so famous she can’t go for a stroll in Central Park without too many protocols; Chase’s album came out on January 6; and Streeter (Ken Marino) is representing people he found on TikTok. “The Other Two” co-creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider know that the HBO Max comedy’s biggest strength comes from its hilarious and ruthless commentary on the madness of trying to make it in Hollywood. As workers in the industry, satirizing its troubles is an almost healing and cathartic exercise.
“I think the worries or fears or curiosities or anxieties or discontent that Brooke (Heléne Yorke) and Cary (Drew Tarver) have are usually based on something we’ve felt ourselves, or things that people in the writers’ room felt [working in Hollywood],” Kelly told TheWrap ahead of the Season 3 premiere. “So that is the nice thing about having a show in general, let alone a show that is about your own job, you can work through your own feelings.”
“And we really do love our jobs,” Schneider added. “For all the industry’s flaws we do like being a part of it, so...
