When I first started managing Clap Your Hands Say Yeah in 2005, I was an employee at Atlantic Records. I worked in the label’s publicity department from 2001-2006 and loved it there. I made amazing friends I’ve kept to this day, and have managed and worked with many bands on the label since I left. For a couple years after leaving, I was decidedly "anti-label." A mysterious black horse and a cloaked death-like figure travel through the dreams and nightmares of a young boy in “Evil Things,” the new video from dark psychedelic rockers The Black Angels. Directed by artist/photographer/filmmaker Kevin Castanheira, the film's haunting imagery compliments the droning, pulsing cosmic tones and heavy, Sabbath-style rhythms that permeate the band's critically-acclaimed new album Indigo Meadow. The Black Angels hail from Austin, Texas, and recently played South By Southwest on the heels of a Winter tour with the legendary Roky Erickson (one of the giants of postmodern rock). They will be curating their own seventh annual Austin Psych Fest on May 2nd through 4th, featuring bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Loop, The Dandy Warhols and Panda Bear. Be sure to also check out the Psycho-inspired video for Melinda Ortner's “One More Day,” which debuted on Fearnet to coincide with the Season 2 premiere of Bates Motel.

When True Detective was first announced, many dismissed it as yet another police procedural, albeit with a much more impressive cast than most. However, even those who reacted positively to the premise of the series could never have predicted just how huge of a success and phenomenon True Detective would be.
The first season came to a close in the Us on Sunday night, and only three instalments have aired in the UK so far. Regardless of where you live, that means there’s plenty of time to catch up! And don’t worry, we don’t reveal any major spoilers here, so True Detective’s big mystery will remain unsolved for you to discover!
10. The Soundtrack
As soon as True Detective kicked off with The Handsome Family’s “Far From Any Road” during its superb opening credits, viewers realised that this would be a series with a killer soundtrack.

If you’ve watched one episode of True Detective, HBO’s gritty meditation on good vs. evil, you’ve likely consumed them all — rabidly, and multiple times. Not since Lost has a television series so deeply tapped into our obsessive conspiracy theorist sides. And not since fans asked “What is the Island?” has the Internet been pondering one singular TV question: Who is the Yellow King?
At its core, True Detective is a story about two detectives, Rustin Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson), partners who are haunted by a grisly occult murder that took place in Louisiana in 1995. (Spoilers ahead,...

Over the weekend, we found out a truckload more information about GTA V, specifically as it pertains to the sound of the game. Rockstar announced that GTA V will have a whopping 15 radio stations along with 2 talk radio stations, totaling over 240 licensed songs, and also an original, context-sensitive score provided by Tangerine Dream’s Edgar Froese, Woody Jackson (who previously worked on Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire), and The Alchemist & Oh No.
In addition to the five tracks that Rockstar released samples of, we’ve also learned that the likes of Pam Grier and Kenny Loggins will be hosting other radio stations (soul and rock respectively). While some stations are starting to leak out given the Psn screw-up last week, Rockstar have posted some official sample clips to whet our appetites ahead of the September 17th release date…

The Black Angels will please – nay, impress – their fans with new collection “Indigo Meadow,” and I’ll venture a guess that they’ll gain a new following on the strength of some individual rock songs. “Don’t Play With Guns” was the first song to arrive online for a reason: the hook is fun enough, even with the cultural sub-plot there, and still has the droning, penchant psych grrrr. “War on Holiday” is up, up, up with splashes of tambourine and low grumbling that would have Julian Casablancas taking notes. “I Hear Colors (Chromaesthesia)” sounds exactly what you’d think a song...

"Ingenue" Atoms for Peace Amok (Xl Recordings)
Thom Yorke, Flea, long time Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, session drummer Joey Waronker, and percussionist Mauro Refosco have conjured up some heady experimental rock and electronica juju on this album of Radiohead-like alt-dance and fragmented rock tunes. Much of what I hear on this album had its roots in Radiohead's Amnesiac -- vague lyrics, off-kilter rhythms, Yorke's falsetto vocal phrases. Get your groove on, like Thom does in the video on the next page...
The Mavericks In Time (Valory)
Raul Malo has a voice as angelic as Roy Orbison's. He and his country-leaning Mavs -- original bassist Robert Reynolds and drummer Paul Deakin, along with the more recent guitarist Eddie Perez -- have regrouped and released their first new music in ten years, entitled In Time, including tunes co-written by former Nrbq badass Al Anderson. Last month I was lucky enough to...
