Industry leaders gathered for the first-ever Hollywood & Mind Summit on Thursday afternoon, where several speakers and performers zeroed in on the intersection of mental health and entertainment. Hosted at UTA’s Beverly Hills campus, the daylong summit prompted conversations around how the film, TV, music and tech industries can work to break stigmas surrounding mental health.
Guest speakers Percy “Master P” Miller, Carmela Wallace (mother of Jarad “Juice Wrld” Higgins) and Robin Williams’ son Zak Williams — each of whom experienced tragic familial loss due to mental health crises — came together for a moving discussion. In a panel, “Turning Pain To Purpose Through The Lens of Celebrity,” moderated by The Hollywood Reporter’s editorial director Nekesa Mumbi Moody, the conversation touched on each of the panelist’s experiences with tragedy, as well as how their own healing journeys have inspired them to be of service to others.

Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry have once again teamed up, this time co-creating and executive producing a new docuseries for Apple TV+ called “The Me You Can’t See.” In the first trailer for the series, we get a look at some of the big names who will be joining the pair in sharing their mental health journeys.
“All over the world, people are in some kind of mental, psychological, emotional pain,” Oprah says to Prince Harry in the trailer, released Monday morning. The two then discuss common words they’ve heard associated with the concept of “mental health,” including “crazy,” “lost it” and “can’t keep it together.” And it’s precisely because of those words that they’ve created the docuseries.
“I don’t tell this story for my own self service. I’ve been through it and people need help,” Lady Gaga says at one point in the clip.

Following Friday’s development news of a Will Forte drama that centers on a grief-stricken man planning his own suicide, one mental health organization is criticizing the concept as “wildly irresponsible and callous.”
The show, “Expiration Date,” is described as a “dark suburban soap” in which a man finds a life insurance policy that covers suicide, so long as the individual does not carry out the act within 12 months, and sets about planning out his final year. The show is currently in development at Peacock.
“What a wildly irresponsible and callous concept that will, no doubt, endanger countless viewers,” said Bill Smith, founder of Inseparable, in a statement. “Glamorizing suicide leads to contagion, that is a fact. At a time when our country is already suffering a mental health crisis compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has left Americans’ mental wellbeing at a two-decade low, the last thing we need...

For Marina Zenovich, one of the biggest highlights of making “Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind” was getting to see some lost “Mork and Mindy” outtakes: “That stuff is gold! It’s what you dream of when you’re a documentary filmmaker.” Zenovich tells us in our recent webchat (watch the video above) that they didn’t know about the footage until they started interviewing Robin Williams‘ old co-star, Pam Dawber. “She said, ‘You know, I have a blooper reel in my garage and I don’t live too far from here,’ and we were like, ‘Oh my God! We’ll come with you right now!'” Zenovich adds that in sifting through archive footage is “like a bunch of found objects and you rub them together and see what works.”

Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind is an intimate portrait of Williams, told largely by the comedian himself, examining his life, career, and what drove him to give voice to the characters in his mind.
The documentary features never-before-seen footage and in-depth interviews with Billy Crystal, Eric Idle, Whoopi Goldberg, David Letterman, Steve Martin, Pam Dawber, Zak Williams and others.

"Robin was like nothing I'd ever seen." HBO has debuted an official trailer for Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind, made by doc filmmaker Marina Zenovich. This doc originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year. It's a loving tribute to the late Robin Williams, a comedic mastermind and beloved actor, who touched all of our hearts in some way through his work, before passing away in 2014. The doc features new interviews with Lewis Black, Billy Crystal, Pam Dawber, Whoopi Goldberg, Eric Idle, David Letterman, Steve Martin, David Steinberg, Zak Williams, and more. It also has tons of archival footage that covers his entire life and career. I saw this at Sundance, and while it is deeply moving and heartfelt, it's a more straightforward doc and not as clever or unique as I was hoping. That said, it's worth seeing just to celebrate Robin Williams once ...
