“Russell’s given me the gift of a really beautiful story arc, not only in season 1 but in season 2 also,” Millie shared with EW. “Her family definitely structures her beliefs and her positivity. Varada Sethu is joining the Doctor Who team in 2025, and will star alongside Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson.
Back in January, it was reported that Andor star Varada Sethu had been cast as the new Doctor Who companion and that Millie Gibson, who plays Ncuti Gatwa’s current companion Ruby Sunday, would be leaving, but would also continue to make sporadic appearances in the series. There was no comment from the BBC.
Now, the BBC has issued a statement confirming not only that Sethu is the new companion, though it did not reveal details about her character, but also that Gibson is staying on in the Tardis. As such, Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor will have two companions.
Sethu said, “I feel like the luckiest person in the world. It is such an honour to be a part of the Whoniverse, and I’m so grateful to the whole Doctor...

The more companions, the merrier!
Varada Sethu has officially joined “Doctor Who” Season 2 as the new companion of Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor — but she won’t be replacing current companion Millie Gibson, as previously reported.
In January, rumors swirled that Gibson, who made her debut as companion Ruby Sunday in the sci-fi show’s Christmas special, would not be returning for Season 2 after Gatwa was spotted filming with Sethu. However, it seems the three will take on time and space together in the second season, which is currently in production and slated to debut in 2025 on Disney+ worldwide and on the BBC in the U.K.
Sethu is best known for her role as Cinta Kaz in Disney+’s “Star Wars” spinoff “Andor.” She has also appeared in “Jurassic World Dominion,” “Annika” and “Strike Back.”

This Doctor Who article contains spoilers.
After a weekend of speculation and reports (some of which were spread in bad faith) regarding her casting, we now have our first look at rumored series 15 companion Varada Sethu on the set of Doctor Who. In photos taken at Penarth Pier in South Wales, we can see a gussied up Sethu in a dazzling vintage yellow dress alongside Ncuti Gatwa’s always stylish Doctor in a powder blue suit and rocking a new hairdo, as they flee the chaos unfolding on what looks like a 1950s American street. (The Doctor’s even brought the bowtie back. Perhaps he thinks they’re cool again?)
The leaked photos that made their way onto Twitter also show the Doctor and Sethu’s as of yet unnamed character hanging out in front of an old movie house, the fictional “Palazzo,” which is showing a film starring real-life 1950s Hollywood star Rock Hudson.

Change is a big part of "Doctor Who," but it's unusual for news of change to happen as quickly as it's been lately. New companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), who was just introduced in the recent Christmas special "The Church of Ruby Road," already has a replacement ready for her. Variety reports that when season 14 ends, Gibson will exit the show. Varada Sethu will be the new companion in season 15, acting alongside the current Doctor played by Ncuti Gatwa.
Sethu starred in "Jurassic World Dominion," "Now You See Me 2," and most recently as ruthless Rebel infiltrator Cinta Kaz in "Andor," appearing most prominently in the Aldhani heist arc. It might seem too soon for the show to be announcing Sethu as the next companion, but filming on the next season has already begun in Wales. Given how common leaks to the public are in the internet age, it's likely...

Here’s a shocker: the BBC and Bad Wolf have reportedly replaced Millie Gibson as Doctor Who’s companion after she filmed just one season as Ncuti Gatwa’s sidekick.
The Daily Mirror’s Nicola Methven, who is well-sourced on Doctor Who, said Gibson would be replaced by Andor star Varada Sethu in Gatwa’s second season as the Time Lord.
The BBC and Bad Wolf did not respond to a request for comment. The story has not been denied and appeared to be confirmed by Gatwa on Instagram (see below).
The actor posted an Instagram story with a picture of himself and Gibson. It was captioned with “My lil” and the Gemini astrological sign for twins and a heart emoji.
The Mirror said the decision was made by Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies and Gibson will not appear in the 2024 Christmas special after her first full season, which premieres in May.
