Sauron’s rise in Season 2 of “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will begin August 29 when the new installment of Amazon Prime Video’s fantasy series based on J.R.R. Tolkien IP arrives on the streamer. Prime Video released a teaser trailer and behind-the-scenes featurette Monday. Based on parts of Tolkien’s posthumous “The Silmarillion,” the series has a planned arc of five seasons.
What is ‘Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 about?
The drama series takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” books with an ensemble cast of familiar faces mixed with new characters. The first trailer for the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was released online yesterday afternoon, and Prime Video has now followed-up with a special "Look Inside" featurette spotlighting quite a bit of new footage.
The video takes us behind-the-scenes of the sophomore season of the Lotr prequel series, as the main cast members bring us up to speed on their respective characters.
By far the biggest talking point from the trailer is the return of Sauron, who has now taken his Elven "Annatar" form in an effort to hide out in Eregion. If the show follows the lore, the "Giver of Gifts" will befriend Celebrimbor and aid him in the making of the Nine (that were given to men) and Seven Rings (gifted to the Dwarves) of Power.
Of course, Celebrimbor and the other Elven smiths already met Sauron when he was disguised...

The trailer captures an action-packed new season as the Rings of Power crew—Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova), and Isildur (Maxim Baldry)—faces a new enemy that “worms himself inside your mind as the rest of him slithers in.

Whether you liked it or not, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power became a hit series for Amazon, and it was expected that the series would be renewed for a second season. The series explored the era of Tolkien’s world before the main series, as well as the story of The Hobbit, expanding the universe we’ve already explored earlier. Now, some of the fans weren’t happy with the series in general, but the series has done fairly well and we are now waiting to see where it heads in the upcoming season. The second season will premiere later this year, and Amazon is slowly heating up for the upcoming premiere, which is what we are going to do with this report as well.

"Darkness will bind them." Here we go again! Prime Video has revealed an epic first teaser for Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series. It's start to launch in late August during the fall - just like Season 1 did back in 2022. The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth's history. For Season 2, as we all know from the finale of Season 1: Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season 1's epic scope and ambition, Season 2 plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness,...

Sauron is on the rise in the first trailer for Season 2 of the Prime Video series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” which premieres on Aug. 29. Amazon unveiled the trailer and the premiere date in New York City on Tuesday as part of its upfront presentation to advertisers.
The action-packed first look focuses on the rise of the fearsome and powerful villain during Middle-earth’s Second Age, as Sauron (Charlie Vickers) disguises himself as an elf to aid Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) in the forging of the titular rings of power. All sorts of menacing creatures — orcs, creeping tree vines, an oozing morass of wormy goo — appear to pollute the land, while many of the characters from Season 1 ready themselves for battle, including Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) and Isildur (Maxim Baldry).

Prime Video has announced that we will get our first look at some footage from the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power tomorrow when the first teaser trailer is released online.
Production has been underway since late 2022 at Bray Studios, just outside London. Season 1 was shot in New Zealand, but the decision was made to change-up location because The UK is "considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub."
The first season concluded with the reveal that the seemingly benevolent Halbrand was actually Sauron all along. The Dark Lord offered Galadriel the chance to join him once his ruse was discovered, and when she refused, he fled back to the Southlands (soon to be known as Mordor).
It was also heavily implied that "The Stranger" was really Gandalf, but this is yet to be confirmed by actor Daniel Weyman or the showrunners.

Speaking at Monte-Carlo Television Festival Sunday, cast members from the fantasy series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” expressed their feelings about the racist trolls who objected to the Prime Video show’s diverse and inclusive casting when it first launched.
Last month, Ismael Cruz Córdova, who plays the Elven warrior Arondir, told Variety that Prime Video provided an on-set therapist to help the actors deal with the racist backlash against its casting. He revealed it wasn’t just attacks on social media. “My phone got hacked. I had bank account attempts of being hacked. My PayPal got hacked. My friends got messages. I got death threats. I got things mailed to me. People found out my address. It was a lot of that,” Córdova recalled.
Asked by Variety at Monte-Carlo Television Festival on Sunday about how they viewed the racist trolls, the cast differed slightly in their response.

This article contains spoilers for season 1 of The Rings of Power and a likely character return for season 2.
In the penultimate episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1, Elendil’s (Lloyd Owen) eldest son Isildur (Maxim Baldry) is seemingly crushed by a burning building while rescuing Queen Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) and others during the orcs’ attack on the Southlands. Isildur is presumed dead by his father and fellow soldiers, and they mourn him as such. However, a set photo from the filming of The Rings of Power’s second season seem to indicate that Isildur somehow survived the collapse and the fire and is very much alive.

The following post contains spoilers for season 1 of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" finished up its first season earlier this year in grand fashion. We saw the forging of the three elven rings of power, the discovery of Sauron (Charlie Vickers) by Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), and the Southlands turning into Mordor with a giant battle, volcanic explosion, and a name change on the map. The fight was epic, and not all characters made it out unscathed. The sparks from the fires blinded Queen Regent Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson). Elendil (Lloyd Owen) believes he's lost his son Isildur (Maxim Baldry). For a show with a five-season plan, that's a tremendous start.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," a high fantasy series loosely inspired by the extended prequel writings of J.R.R. Tolkien, dares to ask the big questions: What was Isildur (Maxim Baldry) like during his angsty, teen years? Did Elrond (Robert Aramayo) ever rock a side part? What was Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) like during her angsty (immortal) teen years? In fairness, there are a lot of characters -- some of their core conflicts were bound to get repetitive. Chief among these mysteries, however, was that of a hidden identity, one so curious that its very revelation could spell great change for the series. No, we're not talking about The Stranger (Daniel Weyman), or Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) -- insert an ironically repetitious joke about narrative repetition here -- but Halbrand (Charlie Vickers).

The incredible, bombastic season finale of "The Rings of Power," which aired a few weeks back, has left a Middle-earth-shaped void in the hearts of fans. Due to the compelling nature of the episode's reveals, and a culmination of everything the show has been building up to, folks (that would be me) are excited to see more of the sprawling saga. You can now fully immerse yourself in Middle-earth now that every “Rings of Power” episode is available to stream on Amazon Prime. The hotly anticipated “Lord of the Rings” series concluded on Friday with an action-packed finale episode — without giving away spoilers, we’re still thinking about that raft scene and that trippy sequence in Galadriel’s mind.
The fantasy series is one of Amazon Studios’ most ambitious projects to date. Not only is it reported to be the most expensive television series ever made (Amazon apparently shelled out close to 715 million for all eight episodes), but the show’s first trailer racked up an unmatched 257 million views when it first debuted at this year’s Super Bowl, more than any Super Bowl trailer in history.
If you didn’t have a chance to binge the first season yet, all the episodes are still available to stream at your leisure.

This article contains spoilers for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" season 1.
Tearful goodbyes and too many endings: we've come to expect those from "The Lord of the Rings," and the season 1 finale of "The Rings of Power" didn't disappoint in that regard. Like "Andor," "The Rings of Power" is a prequel to a prequel, and the challenge any such narrative faces is: how do you engage viewers with a story when they already know how it will ultimately end? "The Hobbit" movie trilogy began with "An Unexpected Journey," but maybe all it and "The Rings of Power" could ever hope to be was a journey to an expected destination, with some unexpected developments along the way.
"Better Call Saul" skirted this issue slightly by being both a prequel and a black-and-white sequel at the same time. "The Rings of Power" has done it by finding ample...

The first season of “The Rings of Power” has officially come to a close with an “unexpected” finale as the “Lord of the Rings” prequel series explores the lives and events that took place thousands of years before J. R. R. Tolkien’s trilogy of books (and subsequent films). And along the way, audiences learned how Mordor was created, that the elves were in danger of dying, and there were plenty of signs that evil was, in fact, reemerging.
As showrunner Patrick McKay previously teased to Et, “Some mysteries may be answered, so answers may provoke new mysteries.” And that’s exactly what the final episode of the season does, making good on those “several big booms” he promised were coming later in the season.
Not only that, but Morfydd Clark (Galadriel), Charlie Vickers (Halbrand) and Benjamin Walker (High King Gil-galad) react to the revelations offered in episode eight, including...

After spending several weeks in the Second Age of Middle-earth, it’s time for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 to come to an end. The Amazon Prime Video series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings novels and their appendices has once again introduced an evil force to Middle-earth that challenges the worlds of Men, Elves, Dwarves, and even Harfoots.
Based on the trailer for The Rings of Power episode 8 released at New York Comic Con, rumors of Sauron’s reappearance have not been greatly exaggerated. After weeks of theories about which character is actually Sauron in disguise, it seems as though his true identity (identities?) will finally be revealed in the season finale.
But the Sauron reveal isn’t the only hint in the finale trailer. A brief glimpse of a molten...

Spoilers ahead for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" episode 7, as well as future plot spoilers from "The Lord of the Rings."
We all knew it was coming. The Southlands are right on the spot where Mordor sits in Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Even if you're not steeped in the lore that author J.R.R. Tolkien created, you probably felt it early on. Finding out that the Sauron symbol Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) was hunting for was a map of the Southlands cemented it long before the penultimate episode of the season.
In episode 7, "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" put a very fine point on what's coming, from changing the name on the map from "Southlands" to "Mordor" to showing us the Balrog at the bottom of the mithril mine in Khazad-dûm that will someday battle Gandalf (Ian McKellen). In fact,...

This article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power
In the penultimate episode of The Rings of Power, we see the immense destruction and devastation wrought by the awakening and subsequent eruption of Mount Doom at the end “Udûn.” The Southlands once full of life have now been transformed into the fiery, volcanic wasteland we know as Mordor from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The human survivors, displaced by this not-so-natural disaster, now need a new home. In “The Eye,” Bronwyn (Nanzanin Boniadi) reveals that she is leading many of the survivors to a place called Pelargir, which has major implications for the future of the Men of Middle-earth.
In Tolkien lore, Pelargir is a port city located in the southern part of the land that will eventually come to be known as Gondor, along the banks of the Anduin river. According to J.R.R. Tolkien in Appendix B of The Lord of the Rings,...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 7, “The Eye.”] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 is nearly complete. Episode 7, “The Eye,” debuted Friday, October 7 on Prime Video, showing the calamitous aftermath of the creation of Mordor. While most of our heroes are safe, not everyone made it out alive. There are still a slew of storylines in need of conclusions heading into The Rings of Power finale on October 14. Here, we break down the biggest questions from The Rings of Power Episode 7. Where is Isildur? Matt Grace/Prime Video The beginning of Episode 7 shows Isildur (Maxim Baldry), Queen Regent Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), and Valandil (Alex Tarrant) scouring the Southlands wreckage for survivors. Tragically, the boys find their close friend, Ontamo (Anthony Crum) dead in the debris. They enter a burning house that soon collapses on top of them, and that’s the last we see ...

It’s official: Amazon’s The Rings of Power has started filming its next season.
Production got underway on Monday at the new hub at Bray Studios just outside London.
The news follows the first official Nielsen ratings being released Thursday for the Prime Video series, showing The Rings of Power topped the streaming charts for its debut week with 1.3 billion minutes viewed (likely an Amazon series record given that only two hours were released).
The first season of the show was filmed in New Zealand over an epic stretch of 18 months during the pandemic. For season 2, which will consist of eight episodes, Amazon switched the show’s production to the U.K., which is considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub.
The Rings of Power is approaching its seventh and penultimate episode of its debut season this week.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 5, “Partings.”] There are a lot of characters to track in Prime Video’s blockbuster fantasy drama The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power but only a few that we know will play a major role later on in the series. One of those key characters is Maxim Baldry‘s young sailor, Isildur. In Peter Jackson‘s Lord of the Rings films, we see Isildur in flashbacks (played by Harry Sinclair) as the man who will eventually destroy Sauron—but not the ever-important ring. For now, he’s just an angsty young Númenórean with big dreams, and a father—Lloyd Owen’s Elendil—who is constantly having to knock him down a few pegs to keep him in line. In this upcoming episode, we’ll (hopefully) see some more action for Isildur, who has finally “earned” a spot aboard...

Amazon's highly anticipated journey into Middle-earth has finally arrived, expanding on a time period only briefly touched on in J.R.R. Tolkien's novels. "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is a daring, glossy, and thrilling original series that explores the Second Age of Middle-earth, approximately 5,000 years before the events of Peter Jackson's beloved "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Following characters both new and familiar, the series will explore how the Rings of Power came to be, and how the dark lord Sauron rose to power.
Drawing primarily on the material in the appendix of "The Lord of the Rings," "The Rings of Power" is one of the most exciting attempts to create original material in the Middle-earth canon. As a result, it has several fascinating new characters for viewers to dissect and enjoy, such as Halbrand and Disa, along with existing fan-favorites like Galadriel and Elrond.

With just three episodes remaining, the show’s narrative threads are beginning to converge.
What we want to do and what we must do are rarely the same thing, including in Middle-earth. Just ask the ever-honorable Elrond, who finds himself stuck between a mythical ore and a hard place on “Partings,” the latest episode of “The Rings of Power.” It turns out that there was indeed an ulterior motive behind High King Gil-galad sending him to Khazad-dûm, as mithril — which the dwarves, led by Elrond’s close friend Prince Durin IV, have been mining in secret — could be the only thing preventing the elves from slowly diminishing into nothingness. Asked by Gil-galad whether the dwarves have in fact found the precious ore, Elrond refuses to answer on the grounds that he swore an oath to Durin not to reveal what he saw in those mines. He’s then asked a much more loaded question,...

Note: The following contains spoilers for “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Episode 3.
At long last, Númenor has been brought to the screen. A storied location in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth saga, this bustling island paradise has never been portrayed in any Tolkien adaptation until Amazon Prime Video’s “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.”
The show’s third episode finds Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) having been rescued by a mysterious ship that takes them to Numenor – a matter of controversy since an elf has not set foot in the city for ages.
But what is Númenor and why is it so special? We run down its history in the books – including what’s going on there during the time of “The Lord of the Rings” – below.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" isn't the first time trolls have tried to break up a fellowship, and it isn't the first time we've heard the name Isildur, either. With its sprawling cast, it could be easy to lose track of names and faces in the series, including who is new and who we've already seen in the Peter Jackson live-action adaptations: The "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit" movie trilogies, adapted from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. In the third and latest "Rings of Power" episode, "Adar," there are two important new/old faces that pop up: Isildur and his father Elendil, while the name of Isildur's brother Anárion also receives a mention.
So who exactly are these guys? Well, let's backtrack to 2001, when Peter Jackson's first "Lord of the Rings" movie thundered into theaters. If you remember the prologue to "The Fellowship of the Ring,...

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work, specifically the Appendices of The Lord of the Rings. The series is a prequel to the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and is set during Arda’s Second Age, when the Rings of Power are first created. Like any good fantasy series, The Rings of Power has an expansive cast of characters whose stories will weave through each other to determine the fate of Middle-earth. To celebrate the hugely-anticipated release of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which finally arrives on Amazon Prime Video this week, we had the pleasure of sitting down with its huge ensemble cast and showrunners to find out more.
Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Amazon is one of the biggest companies on the planet, and founder Jeff Bezos is at the very top of the food chain, making him a very busy man. Prime Video, the company's streaming service, is but one part of a gigantic, all-encompassing business that offers everything from delivering toilet paper to web-based solutions for other businesses. This to say, it's hard to imagine that Bezos would take a lot of time out of his day for one show coming to Prime Video, but "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" isn't just any show — it's going to be the most expensive show ever made.
Bezos recently attended the U.K. premiere for the first two episodes of the show and had some nice things to say about showrunners Patrick McKay and John D. Payne who, prior to this massive undertaking, had relatively few credits in the industry.

While most of what has been written about “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has been related to how much it cost, with a whopping 465 million production budget for the first season alone (meaning each episode cost nearly 60 million), there is still much to discuss about the highly anticipated new series. You know, like when you can watch it and who is in it. That kind of thing. Below we are attempting to answer all of your questions before “The Rings of Power” come out and you become a troll-obsessed freak once again.

Plot: This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
Review: Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings mythology had to wait nearly a century for the definitive screen adaptation of the fantasy epic.
