- Twisted lip
- Chilling , calm voice
- Subtle northern New Jersey accent
- Towering height and heavy frame
- His claims of murdering hundreds of people have been disputed with many seeing him as trying to inflate his legend.
- One of the US' most prolific and cold-blooded professional killers, he claimed to have committed more than 100 murders in his career. Some law enforcement sources have said they believed his career total was much higher than that.
- He typically used cyanide administered from a nasal spray on his victims and earned the nickname "The Iceman" because he kept some bodies in a freezer. He was serving consecutive life sentences at New Jersey State Penitentiary for two murders at the time of his death in 2006.
- He was the subject of several books, two cable television documentaries and a "docudrama" about his life.
- He has erroneously been described as a "Mafia killer". He wasn't--not being Sicilian, he could never have become a member of the Mafia. He was a contract killer who often worked for various Mafia families and figures, but he did not belong to the Mafia and, in fact, also committed contract killings for non-Mafia criminal organizations and individuals.
- [when asked if he felt he was an assassin] "Assassin"? Sounds so exotic. I'm just a murderer.
- I've never felt sorry for any of the things I've done, besides hurting my family. That's the only thing I feel sorry for.
