It almost seems like a common phenomenon that audiences see scenes in a movie trailer that don’t actually appear in the final movie. Sometimes, in the case of CGI-laden blockbusters, they can alter the location of a scene from a trailer to another location in the final cut of the film. Sometimes, even a hint of a subplot from a trailer can be cut from the movie altogether. This is what has seemingly happened with the Beatles-themed comedy Yesterday from Danny Boyle. The trailer for Yesterday featured a scene where Ana De Armas was presumably making a cameo, as she does not appear on the cast list for the movie.
Universal was sued by Peter Michael Rosza and Conor Woulfe, viewers who had seen De Armas in the trailer and thought she would be a prominent part of the film, except her appearance winded up getting cut from the movie.

A lawsuit between Universal and two men who rented Yesterday and accused the studio of tricking fans into watching the film by featuring Ana de Armas in trailers when she didn’t actually appear in the movie has settled.
Attorneys for both sides on Friday informed the court of a settlement to resolve the case. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
The lawsuit, filed in 2022, revolved around accusations from Peter Michael Rosza and Conor Woulfe that they watched the trailer for Yesterday and thought that de Armas played a substantial role in the romantic comedy about an artist who rockets to fame after discovering that he’s the only person in the world to remember The Beatles, which allows him to pass their songs off as his own. But upon renting it, they learned that she doesn’t appear in the movie. They brought claims for false advertisement, unjust enrichment and unfair competition.

Two men who rented “Yesterday” on Amazon Prime after seeing Ana de Armas in the trailer, only to discover that her role was removed in the final cut of the film, have settled their false advertising lawsuit.
Peter Rosza and Conor Woulfe sued Universal in 2022, alleging that they were each cheated out of $3.99. A federal judge initially sided with them, finding that movie trailers are not immune from false advertising claims. But various setbacks followed, leaving the men on the hook for $126,705 in Universal legal fees.
On Friday, they accepted a settlement that will resolve the case. The terms were not disclosed and neither side responded to a request for comment. On April 18, the parties revealed that both sides will get nothing.
From the evidence of court filings, nobody is happy with the outcome. Universal believes it was forced to spend two years and hundreds of thousands of dollars defending a patently frivolous lawsuit.

One of the world’s largest homes is set to hit the auction block in early February, amid bankruptcy proceedings, asking $295 million. Known since its inception by colorful and controversial developer Nile Niami simply as “The One,” the monstrous and still-incomplete Los Angeles structure is 10 years in the making. Originally, the place had been expected to list for around $500 million, so you could be scoring a sweet deal, depending on how one looks at it. Ahem.
Should the place get anywhere near the discounted ask, it will easily rank as the most expensive home ever sold at auction, well ahead of the storied Hearst Estate (now known as the Beverly House), which was auctioned off in September for $63.1 million.
Per Aaron Kirman of Compass, who is co-listing the property with Branden Williams and Rayni Williams of The Beverly Hills Estates, The One was created for today’s billionaire seeking a one-of-a-kind asset.

A judge has ruled that a rewrite of a lawsuit against 21st Century Fox over the sitcom New Girl should survive a motion to dismiss. The complaint comes from Stephanie Counts and Shari Gold, who allege New Girl derives from their proposals for a television show or movie that would have been titled Square One. The two plaintiffs are suing Fox, William Morris Endeavor, showrunner Liz Meriwether and executive producer Peter Chernin for allegedly lifting their materials after they shopped their script through Wme and proposed Zooey Deschanel for the lead. We give a damn. We really give a damn. Frankly, movies come and go every weekend, fluttering away from our public consciousness as soon as the credits roll. Not so for Gone with the Wind, whose magnolia-rich scent continues to pervade every aspect of our popular culture 75 years since its release. From book sequels to TV movies and miniseries to divine (and divinely absurd) parodies, Scarlett O’Hara has more than borne out her stubborn promise of tomorrow. “Gone with the Wind is such a three-dimensional story,” explains Steve Wilson, curator of film at the University of Texas’s Harry Ransom Center,...

While in Austin, Texas for Fantastic Fest I got an extra treat: a visit to The Making of Gone With The Wind exhibit at the Harry Ransom Center and a personal tour by its curator of film, Steve Wilson. Attendance has been strong since the opening day three weeks ago, which I’m sure will continue through the January closing date. It’s well worth going out of your way to see this exceptional display. Even having Steve’s elaborate new book, The Making of Gone With The Wind (University of Texas Press), doesn’t diminish the excitement of seeing the rare, often unique materials on display from the University’s David O. Selznick Archives. And there is no way to understate the impact of...

BBC commentator Steve Wilson made an unfortunate gaffe during last night's World Cup match.
While German fans were celebrating their eventual 7-1 demolition of Brazil, Wilson mistakenly claimed that they were singing 'Deutschland über alles' in the stands.
However, the controversial line - translated as 'Germany above all' - has not been used in the German national anthem since the end of WWII.
Viewers soon aired their complaints about the error on Twitter:

The “Mad Men” actress brought hubby Geoffrey Arend along for the ride as she toasted Johnnie Walker Platinum Label Blended Scotch Whiskey with Master Blender Stephen Wilson.
On the Walker website, Hendricks explains, “There's just something different about whisky, especially Scotch – the color, the aroma, it's really alluring. I’d take sips of [my husband’s] and started to like it. It's something you linger over, it's not something that gets rushed.”
“It can range dramatically from light and floral to powerful peat and smoke. From what whisky you like, to how you order it – neat, rocks, or with a splash – asking for a Scotch whisky makes a statement. You know what you want and how you want it. That confidence is sexy.

Slmi is not connected to Stan Lee and is in fact suing the Generalissimo. The company has been fighting since it emerged from bankruptcy in 2006 to regain some money and property rights. It has waged numerous court cases for improper transfer of intellectual property rights. In the Conana suit filed in August as the movie hit theaters, the company stated that when Conan Sales Co. bought back the rights in 2002 shareholders weren't properly notified and Stan Lee Media's interest weren't represented. They also claim that Stan Lee's attorney committed fraud and failed to report a conflict of interest. It was reported by Hollywood Esq. that U.S. District Judge Stephen Wilson wasn't buying it. Fans of "Gone with the Wind" obviously do give a damn about Scarlett O'Hara's extravagant dresses with a museum appeal for funds to restore gowns from the 1939 movie meeting its target in three weeks.
The Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin, which acquires and preserves cultural materials, launched a public appeal earlier this month to raise $30,000 to restore five dresses worn by Vivien Leigh in the Oscar-winning film.
The costumes, from the collection of filmmaker David O. Selznick who produced "Gone With The Wind" as well as "A Star Is Born" and "Rebecca," were described as being in a fragile condition and in bad need of restoration.
The museum said more than 600 people from 44 U.S. states and 13 countries contributed to the appeal.
"These generous donations confirm that the film's legions of fans do, in fact, care," Steve Wilson, film curator at the Ransom Center, said in a statement.

Fans of movie classic "Gone with the Wind" have raised over $30,000 to preserve the costumes from the film. More than 600 individuals from 44 states and 13 countries have contributed to the effort to preserve five original costumes that are part of the David O. The Robert De Niro Collection of film-related materials has opened to researchers and the public at the Harry Ransom Center, a humanities research library and museum at the University of Texas at Austin.
Donated by De Niro in 2006, the collection, including more than 1,300 boxes of papers, film, movie props and costumes, documents his professional career from the 1960s through 2005.
Filling more than 300 archival boxes, the paper portion of the collection includes De Niro's heavily annotated scripts and correspondence, makeup and wardrobe photographs, wardrobe continuity books, costume designs and posters and extensive production, publicity and research material.
"This is an important and incredibly rich collection," said Steve Wilson, associate curator of film at the Ransom Center. "It covers so many aspects of filmmaking, from scripts and screenwriting to costumes and film and video. Scholars and students can follow the development of such films as 'The Deer Hunter' from the printed page to the screen.

Brussels -- Holiday prices for Blu-ray players may tumble to about $150 thanks to the economic downturn and competition from download services, analysts Abi Research have warned.
"There is more competition than expected from download alternatives such as Xbox 360 and the Roku Netflix player, TiVo and Amazon," Abi analyst Steve Wilson said.
He added that there are also new opportunities for Blu-ray, including LG and Samsung's deals that allow users to download movies and TV shows straight from Netflix.
