Spain’s TV industry will make history at Series Mania Forum 2022, with its biggest panel and sneak peek series presentation presence ever at a major TV market.
The Spanish conference attendance – alongside Finland’s panel spread – also weighs in as the biggest from any single country at the upcoming edition of the most important co-production event for scripted TV series in Europe.
Series Mania Forum runs on-site over March 22-24 in Lille, northern France, under the larger Series Mania Festival umbrella.
Organized by Icex Spain Trade & Investment, the country’s export and inward investment board, the Spanish pavilion at the Lille Grand Palais will host a record-breaking delegation for Spain of around 20 companies and more than 50 executives.
That’s a sign of just how much Series Mania has grown as an industry forum in the last few years, and of Spain’s ambition to ramp up exports of Spanish movies...

In an interview with Collider to promote the upcoming season of AMC's Mad Men, the lovely January Jones confirms that she will not be returning to the role of Emma Frost in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Back in January, the actress stated she was unsure if she'd be returning but now it seems she's certain. Emma Frost joins fellow Hellfire Club member Azazel (Jason Flemying) as non-returning mutants that were teased as joining up with Magneto at the end of First Class. No official word on Angel (Zoë Kravitz) or Riptide (Álex González) yet but it appears that Mystique will be the only companion of Fassbender's Magneto - unless the pair go on a recruitment drive. So far, Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming) and Banshee (Caleb Jones) have also been confirmed as having 'off panel' adventures in Singer's return to the X-Men franchise. Related Content: James McAvoy's...

At the end of Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class we watch what looks like the birth of Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants. The final scene of the film sees the brilliant, evil mastermind, played by Michael Fassbender, break into a CIA holding cell along with Riptide (Álex González), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Angel (Zoe Kravitz), Azazel (Jason Flemyng), and break-out Emma Frost (January Jones). But as the Brotherhood grows in the X-Men movie universe, it appears that it's making the previously established Hellfire Club disappear. The Coventry Telegraph has learned from studio sources that X-Men: Days of Future Past, the upcoming Bryan Singer-directed sequel to First Class, will not feature the 1960s underground mutant club led by Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon). While the reasons for this should be pretty clear to those who saw the last movie and watched the group's leader die after getting a coin through the head,...

At the end of Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class Magneto, played by Michael Fassbender, successfully infiltrates a CIA holding cell where Emma Frost, played by January Jones, is just lying and waiting. After exchanging some banter regarding the Master of Magnetism's "telepath friend," Magneto asks if she will join him in his cadre of mutants. To fans of the characters it looked as though the two of them, along with Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Angel (Zoe Kravitz), Azazel (Jason Flemyng) and Riptide (Álex González), were forming the earliest version of the Brotherhood of Mutants. But now it looks like it's possible we may not see the payoff of that final moment in the sequel. Jones is currently down in Park City, Utah for the Sundance Film Festival, promoting her new movie Sweetwater, and when speaking with Collider she revealed that she has yet to hear anything about the upcoming X-Men:...

20th Century Fox‘s latest foray into the world of mutants with X-Men: First Class, which recently hit Blu-ray and DVD and also managed to score the best fantasy movie award at the 2011 Scream Awards apparently proved popular enough to warrant a sequel (don’t look so surprised).
Now, Shh is reporting that the studio has hired a writer for the sequel, which is expected to see the return of director Matthew Vaughn. In a move that is bound to scare the blue right out of Mystique, the studio has chosen Simon Kinberg to pen the sequel. Who is Kinberg? The writer has penned some good stuff, including Sherlock Holmes, and even though he acted as a producer on the first film, he was also the writer behind X-Men: The Last Stand.

X-Men: First Class
(released September 9th, 2011)
Review:
After the disappointments that were X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it was a great relief when Director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) was able to put this franchise back on course. Currently this film is tied with X2: X-Men United as being my favorites of the franchise.
The central story of the film centers around the 1960s Cuban Missile Crisis and the first time Charles Xavier/Professor X (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto (Michael Fassbender) met one another. Along the course of the film they meet, and recruit mutants we’ve met before (including some very cool cameos) as well as brand new faces. One of the surprisingly biggest comic book films of the summer was Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class." The prequel based off the Marvel comics caught everyone's attention from the film's actors, direction and many others things which don't include some of the visual effects, but let's not get into that one. It's safe to say that many people, including myself, fell right back in love with the movie franchise after this latest installment. Who wouldn't? It breathed new life into some of our most beloved mutants, and even in some most movie-goers don't know about. One of the mutants many people don't know about is Riptide, played by Spanish actor Álex González, who's mutant power is to create whirlwinds and can also do so by spinning his body at great speed. Although he fights with the Marauders in the X-Men comics, we saw him standing alongside Sebastian Shaw (played...

There are two forces at play in Matthew Vaughn's prequel to the X-Men series, X-Men: First Class. There's a smolderingly good film about adults seeking revenge for personal atrocities, weighing what it means to be a mutant, how that level of evolution fits into greater society and the ramifications of forced immersion into that world. That film is anchored by grown-ups, talented actors like Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Rose Byrne, and Kevin Bacon, who know how to bring the cultural metaphors underlying a comic-book story to the surface, and who can add a layer of sophistication and complexity to a tale of superheroes and villains.
The other film, which can best be described as Mutant Spy Kids, is led by the serviceable Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Raven, the young woman who would become Mystique. That film is a lighter, more superficial coming of age story about teenagers dealing with...

X-Men: First Class, directed by Matthew Vaughn, is the prequel to all of the X-Men films. The majority of the film centers on the 1964 Bay of Pigs events which almost saw Soviet Russia and the United States commence with World War III. The film begins almost identically to the first film of the series, X-Men (2000), which introduces a young Erick Lehnsherr (Bill Milner) forcibly separated from his family at a Polish concentration camp in 1944. James McAvoy
The Scottish actor has starred in the UK version of gay favorite Shameless, as well as Penelope and Wanted. Word on the street is we might see Wanted 2 at some point? Yay? For First Class, James takes on the role of the psychic future X-Men leader Professor X.
Nicholas Hoult
Nicholas charmed us as the titular “boy” in About a Boy, and got sort of sexy-evil for the first couple seasons of Skins (the UK version, you guys. The one that's good. Just so we're clear.). He seems to have been tapped for an upcoming Skins movie, and in X-Men he plays a young Beast.

20th Century Fox have released a new clip, entitled “Picking Code Names” from director Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men prequel, X-Men: First Class, which stars Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Alex Gonzalez, January Jones, Kevin Bacon and Jason Flemyng.
X-men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Fox has released another film clip showing off another scene from Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class. The new clip features the young mutants hanging out, while picking their X-Men code names. The film is coming out this weekend, and I'm really excited about seeing it, especially since the reviews have been so positive.

Previews for " X-Men: First Class " show Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult sharing a kiss, but in real life, it's Zoe Kravitz and Michael Fassbender who are dating. Us Weekly was the first to report the news. Kravitz , the daughter of rocker Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet , began dating her costar while filming the mutant movie. Kravitz is 22, while Fassbender is 34. The two were spotted getting cozy in New York City over the weekend. Their 12-year age difference doesn't seem to be a problem. A source tells Us, "Zoe's really mature for her age in that she has very strong opinions and she is very confident in herself. Most people are shocked to learn she's so young; she doesn't really bring it up and age would never stop her from dating anybody." In the film, Kravitz plays Angel , an exotic dancer with insect-wings. Fassbender plays Erik Lehnsherr, who eventually becomes the...

Our review of the film is here and you can check it out right now as it is released in UK cinemas today.
Everyone appeared to be in a fun and playful mood (probably bolstered considerably by the more than favourable feedback the film is currently receiving) and amongst more general chitchat, the cast was happy to discuss the more outlandish aspects of bringing comic book characters to life on the big screen.
James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender were first asked about how they tackled the pivotal roles of Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, and how much they looked towards the previous actors who inhabited both roles to inform their own performances:

Here’s an ugly confession: I really like X-Men 3. In fact, it’s quite probably my favourite X-Film. The first was fun but pretty ropey, the second was great but had long periods of nothing happening. And Wolverine was obviously a bag of balls. In X-Men 3, you get lots of exciting stuff happening, loads of major characters getting merked, that whole Golden Gate thing, a thrilling end to the Wolverine/Jean Grey relationship and Vinnie Jones (though admittedly I may be in a minority in the Vinnie-appreciation stakes).
So the big question is, can X-Men: First Class top the dizzy heights of The Last Stand? Well, it at least equals them. The kick-ass director of Kick-Ass,...

Here’s the Hong Kong poster for director Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men prequel, X-Men: First Class, which stars Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Alex Gonzalez, January Jones, Kevin Bacon and Jason Flemyng. Whilst the poster image is nothing new, why I’m really posting is this is because of the quotes slapped all over it. Yep, take a closer look. There’s quotes from Hitfix, Bleeding Cool, Collider, /Film, and… us!
I don’t know where Bleeding Cool found the poster but I’m glad they did – our girl Kate did a fantastic job with all the X-Men coverage (there’s still two interviews to go) and she deserves some recognition for it – and what better recognition for a movie site than a quote on a poster.

Review by Kate Atherton
Stars: Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Alex Gonzalez, January Jones, Kevin Bacon, Jason Flemyng, Nicolas Hoult | Written by Jane Goldman, Matthew Vaughn, Ashley Miller, Zack Stentz | Directed by Matthew Vaughn
Matthew Vaughn was supposed to direct X-Men 3. It almost happened – he’d even completed the storyboards and script. But Vaughn left the project because Fox hadn’t given him enough time for it. Rather ironically, he ended up directing X-Men: First Class instead, for which he was given even less time. How glad I am. Instead of completing what someone else started, Vaughn was able to begin again, with fresh actors, and show us how these characters, with their fantastical names and powers, became who they were. All set against the real events that unfolded during the early 1960s and the Cold War.
X-Men: First Class is an extraordinary feat...

Sometimes I really hate reviewing movies. Of course that’s not saying I’m trying to bite the hand that feeds me, just that there are times when you have the privilege to watch something before anyone else and you just want to sit back and enjoy – to forget the note-taking, the analysis, trying to keep yourself one step removed from complete fan-boy abandonment. Admittedly when it comes to genre movie-making, and in particular our current love affair with comic book movies it’s usually more difficult. What can I say, I’m a fan. Which of course makes poorly made comic book movies all the more disappointing, all the more crushing after all the expectation.
With X-Men: First Class, Marvel’s 60’s set re-invigoration of the X-universe after the less than stellar X-Men 3: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I hardly even bothered...

As I have mentioned before, X-Men: First Class is one of my most anticipated films of the summer. I can't wait for June 3rd. The first trailer did not really sell me, but after watching the theatrical trailer and seeing the various clips I have become a huge supporter of the project. I am particularly excited for the period story line and the characters. The first reviews are in and they are nothing but positive. This film will dominate the box office, so it makes sense that a sequel will likely happen.
Director Matthew Vaughn spoke to Hitfix recently and had this to say about the sequel:
"Yeah, definitely. I really loved working with them, and with Michael [Fassbender] and James [McAvoy], the chemistry was really lovely. I've got some ideas for the opening for the next film. I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and we...

Here's a great collection of behind the scenes footage from Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, which contains 20-minutes of footage that shows off some great stuff, some of which would be considered spoiler type territory, so watch at your own risk.
I think it's cool watching this kind of stuff and getting a sense of what it might have been like to be on the set of a film like this. Hope you enjoy the videos below.
The film stars Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones, Rose Byrne, Nicholas Hoult, Jason Flemyng, Zoë Kravitz, Lucas Till, Oliver Platt, Ray Wise, Edi Gathegi, Caleb Landry Jones and Álex González.
Official Plot Synopsis:
X-men First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took...

Here’s a handful of images (some of which I don’t think I’ve seen before) from director Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men prequel, X-Men: First Class, which stars Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Alex Gonzalez, January Jones, Kevin Bacon and Jason Flemyng.
X-Men: First Class is released June 1st.
