Belt-tightening and cost-cutting continues across Hollywood as the Peak TV era has come to a close, and another legacy TV brand is being shuttered as a result.
Sony Television is shutting down its TriStar Television banner, which recently has been responsible for series like “Lucky Hank” (AMC), “The Afterparty” (Apple TV+), “On Becoming a God in Central Florida” (Showtime), “The Last Tycoon” (Amazon), and “Good Girls Revolt” (Amazon). In its heyday, TriStar TV produced and distributed “The Nanny,” “Mad About You,” and many more series.
A source says the decision is part of a larger shift around Sony Pictures Television’s boutique labels, not unlike the shuttering of the Gemstone brand several years ago, and that the hope is to weave all of TriStar’s values and goals into the bigger studio.
As THR first reported, TriStar TV’s active productions will be absorbed into the larger Sony Television operation,...

We're still waiting on a trailer, but an unsurprisingly crude first poster has been released featuring the characters holding up a... yeah, this doesn't really need an explanation, does it?

Community fans got their wish in 2022 when Peacock ordered a movie follow-up for the comedy series.
Since the announcement, there have been few updates about the project, and, as expected, the project is on hold due to the Writers Guild Strike.
Series star Joel McHale opened up to TV Line while promoting Crime Scene Kitchen.
"That was a bummer, because we were getting very close," he told the outlet.
"But at the same time, I'm a thousand billion percent behind the writers. The writers need to be paid."
The actor confirmed the project is on hold but will still happen when the time is right.
"When this strike is over, we'll come back and we'll make it."
"And I am sure that [series creator] Dan [Harmon] will put in 12 jokes addressing the fact it took [this long to come together]," McHale said.
"But we'll get there. It just may take a little while."

Six seasons and a movie is finally real after NBCUniversal’s Peacock ordered a feature film closure for Community.
It’s a long time coming for the fan-favorite series, which ran for more than 100 episodes between 2009 and 2015.
The streaming service has ordered Community: The Movie from creator Dan Harmon. It will feature original series stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong. The NBCU digital platform won the rights in a competitive situation.
It comes a month after Harmon gave his most concrete answer to the question about when the movie is coming, revealing that it was a “matter of when.” It seems when is now.
Community, which was set in a community college in Colorado, originally launched on NBC, airing alongside series such as The Office, 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation. It ran for five seasons on the linear network before moving to Yahoo!

Amazon’s Prime Video is continuing to spin The Wheel of Time.
The streamer has given an early season three renewal to the fantasy series, it announced Thursday at Comic-Con. Season three will be based on The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in author Robert Jordan’s 14-volume series.
“I’m so thrilled that we’ll be making a third season of The Wheel of Time,” showrunner Rafe Judkins said in a statement. “The Shadow Rising has always been my favorite book in the series, so being able to bring it to television and introduce new audiences to the stories that made me fall in love with these books in the first place is such an honor, and something I’ve been working toward since I first pitched the show years and years ago.”

Sony Pictures Television president Jeff Frost is leaving the indie studio.
The exec, who had been with Sony since joining from ABC Studios in 2008, had led the studio since he and Jason Clodfelter and Chris Parnell were promoted to co-presidents in 2017 following the departures of Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg to Apple.
Frost, the former business affairs exec at the studio, had been overseeing the TV division solo since Parnell left for Apple. Clodfelter has been serving as co-president under Frost for the past two years. Frost will remain at Sony through September and help with the forthcoming transition. Frost and Sony Pictures Television Studios chairman Ravi Ahuja announced the news in separate memos to staff Thursday. (Read both, below.)

Jeff Frost is stepping down from his role as president of Sony Pictures Television Studios.
Frost has held the position as the studio’s chief for the past five years. He was appointed by Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra following the exits of former presidents Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht for their roles leading Apple TV+. Frost formerly served as Sony Pictures Television Studios’ head of business affairs.
Ravi Ahuja, Sony’s chairman of global television studios, and Frost revealed the news in a Thursday memo to staff obtained by Variety, noting that Frost will stay on through September while the studio searches for a new leader. Ahuja also confirmed that Jason Clodfelter, who is co-president reporting to Frost — a position he previously shared with the now-exited Chris Parnell — has recently renewed his contract and will remain in his current position.

Exclusive: Jeff Frost, a 15-year Sony TV veteran, is stepping down as President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, a post he has held for the past five years. According to sources, his departure was a mutual decision. With the TV studio coming off a banner year — hitting an all-time high of over 50 produced series and making waves at the 2021 Emmy nominations — I hear Frost felt it was time to leave and start a new chapter. Frost just shared his decision with his staff; Ravi Ahuja, Chairman, Global Television Studios, announced Frost’s departure in a company email. (You can read both in full at the bottom of the post.)
There is no immediate replacement for Frost. I hear a search is in very early stages, and the studio has held exploratory conversations with a handful of seasoned TV executives. Frost will stay on through September to help with the transition.

This new series is based on the City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit novel by the late Elmore Leonard.
"Having left the hollers of Kentucky eight years ago, Raylan Givens now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a U.S. Marshal and part-time father of a 14-year-old girl," reads the logline.

AMC has given a series order to the one-hour comedic drama, “Straight Man,” starring “Breaking Bad” alum and “Better Call Saul” star Bob Odenkirk.
Here’s the show’s logline: “Straight Man is a mid-life crisis tale set at Railton College, told in the first person by William Henry Devereaux, Jr. (Odenkirk), the unlikely chairman of the English department in a badly underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt.”
“The saying goes ‘the third times a charm,’ but when it comes to Bob Odenkirk on AMC, the first and second times were about as charming, captivating and viscerally entertaining as it gets,” Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, said in a statement. “As ‘Better Call Saul’ begins its epic sixth and final season, we could not be more excited by the prospect of keeping Bob at home on AMC and watching him breathe life into another nuanced,...
