It’s been 11 years since Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn took matrimony by storm as John Beckwith and Jeremy Grey, two expert wedding crashers who snuck into weddings and charmed the pants off any girl they could find in the aptly named R-rated comedy Wedding Crashers. And according to the recent rules of Hollywood, that […]

Turns out Jeremy Renner is a real Hawkeye — for hooch! According to TMZ, the Avengers actor was in Houston for Comicpalooza when he decided to get his John Beckwith and Jeremy Gray on, crashing a wedding reception that was being held in the same hotel he was staying in. Renner reportedly didn't choose to disguise himself as a venture capitalist, instead merely "hitting up the open bar" and allegedly being "kind of standoffish with most of the guests." Renner told TMZ he was trying to keep a low profile in order not to distract from the happy couple, which of course meant he was breaking rule No. 76: No excuses, play like a champion.

TLC’s Best Funeral Ever chronicles the unbelievably absurd workflow of the Dallas-based Golden Gate funeral home — Monday’s series premiere saw caskets roll down a bowling alley and across the finish line of a 100-meter dash, plus a gospel choir-infused “breakfast funeral” and a well-beyond-creepy “urn wedding” (pictured), in which Baptismal couture elegantly replaced the tux and white dress of a traditional living-person affair.
I’m sure the ridiculata presented below will make some people rage — “Reality TV has gone too far! Oh, how America has fallen!

When it comes to finding music online, sometimes search terms are fuzzy.
John Beckwith, an 86-year-old composer, writer, pianist, teacher, and administrator, found that out when his harpsichord song accidentally went viral, according to Pri's The World. The song's title? "Blurred Lines."
No, not that "Blurred Lines," though it appears that thousands of Internet browsers hoping to listen to Robin Thicke's popular summer hit featuring T.I. and Pharrell were accidentally clicking on Beckwith's lyric-less, 10-minute song.
It didn't take too long at all for Allegra Young, recording and licensing manager of the Canadian Music Centre, to notice the happy accident. She saw that the song -- written in 1997 for the harpsichord and violin and released on a 2010 CD -- was receiving an unusual amount of traffic.
Young told Global News that Beckwith's “Blurred Lines” was typically streamed fewer than 100 times a month but had received more than 4,000 hits...

There are a lot of ways to honor the dead, and the Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas, specializes in some of the more outrageous ones. From a barbecue-themed funeral to a trip with ashes on a roller coast, "Best Funeral Ever" spotlights the ways in which loved ones honor those recently passed.
But perhaps the most bizarre thing spotlighted is the inclusion of "professional mourners." These are people who audition and are training to bring the most "authentic" mourning experience to the funeral service, even if they know no one there.
The TLC special took viewers behind-the-scenes to see the audition process, as well as a "class" during which funeral director John Beckwith Jr. makes sure these are the best of the best.

This review first appeared in the Jan. 11 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Despite its sensationalized title, TLC’s newest docudrama, Best Funeral Ever, is surprisingly not a monstrosity. The hourlong special (which, if popular, could produce a full series) chronicles the employees of the Dallas-based Golden Gate Funeral Home as they plan extravagant “home-going celebrations” for the dead. Unlike traditional funeral homes, Golden Gate specializes in a positive and theatrical ode to life. As owner John Beckwith Jr. says, “If [the deceased] wanted to dunk a basketball, we can make that happen.” There’s no Weekend at

You may wanna duck, Honey Boo Boo. The bar for reality television has just been dropped once again.
TLC announced today plans to air Best Funeral Ever, a program that will focus on the uniquely-themed ceremonies organized by the Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas.
“A home-going is much different than a funeral, it’s a celebration," Golden Gate CEO John Beckwith Jr. says of his company's methods. "The Golden Gate experience is our version of the traditional African American home-going celebration. We do not produce generic funerals; everybody’s experience has to be different.”
Examples of such home-goings include: a barbecue-inspired event; a holiday celebration with elves; and an amusement park-anchored event that includes rides and games.
Best Funeral Ever premieres on December 26 and will be turned into a series if the ratings are there. Why do we somehow have no doubt they will be?
