Update, 5:40 Pm: Joe Biden is “outraged and heartbroken” by the killing of aid workers from Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen on Monday by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.
Following up on remarks from the president quoted by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre today, the administration just released a full statement from Biden. And it doesn’t mince words over the tragedy that left seven members of the World Central Kitchen team dead.
“Even more tragically, this is not a stand-alone incident,” Biden said of the Idf’s actions and the spiralling humanitarian crisis coming out of the Jewish state’s response to the murderous attacks on Israeli citizens and soldiers on October 7 last year. “This conflict has been one of the worst in recent memory in terms of how many aid workers have been killed,” the president added as international condemnation of the bombing grows. “This is a...

A story that was widely shared by conservative politicos and right-wing media has been retracted by its publisher, the Daily Caller.
The piece claimed that the Biden administration banned religious-themed Easter eggs from a contest at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. In fact, the restrictions were long-standing ones from the American Egg Board that have applied for the past 45 years, across administrations including that of Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump.
“Following the publication of this article, the Daily Caller became aware of additional context that undercut the central assertion of this article and its newsworthiness,” according to the retraction notice. “The ban of religious symbolism on eggs as part of the White House Easter egg activities has been longstanding, dating back decades, and the Biden administration did not make any modifications to this rule.”

Lawmakers in Israel on Monday passed new legislation that allows the government to temporarily close foreign media outlets deemed to be a risk to national security. In the wake of the Israeli parliament approving the law, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to shutter Al Jazeera, saying it “will no longer be broadcast from Israel.”
Calling Al Jazeera a “terrorist channel,” Netanyahu wrote on X that he intends to “act immediately” to stop the news channel’s activity.
Responding, the Qatar-based network, which is one of the most widely viewed sources of news in the Arab world, said in part, “Al Jazeera holds the Israeli Prime Minister responsible for the safety of its staff and Network premises around the world, following his incitement and this false accusation in a disgraceful manner… Al Jazeera reiterates that such slanderous accusations will not deter us from continuing our bold and professional coverage, and reserves...

Updated: This past weekend saw a parade of Republican elected officials and conservative commentators blast the White House for recognizing Sunday as the Transgender Day Of Visibility, as it happened to fall this year on the same day as Easter.
That continued into Monday, with radio hosts highlighting the outrage and FoxNews.com devoting its 11th story so far over the flap.
At today’s press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called out Fox, noting that “we are at first … confused on their coverage. We are grateful that Fox agrees with President Biden about the importance of recognizing trans day of visibility.”
She then went on to read a tweet that Fox TV, the broadcast network sister division of Fox News, put out in 2021 that noted the Trans Day Of Visibility and read, “To all the transgender men, women and non-binary folx, we see you and stand with you.

Comcast’s NBC Universal has severed ties with former Republican National Committee Chairperson Ronna McDaniel and will no longer include her as an on-air contributor in news and political coverage, an executive affirmed in a memo on Tuesday.
The memo, written by NBC News Group Chairman Cesar Conde, said he made the key decision to move on from having McDaniel contribute to NBC News products following internal backlash from staffers who expressed concerns over her political leanings and, in particular, her defense of former President Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claims of election fraud and interference.
Some of that internal strife spilled into the public when “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd and MSNBC on-air columnist Rachel Maddow criticized the network’s hiring of McDaniel.
“The fact that McDaniel is on the payroll at NBC News — to me that is inexplicable,” Maddow said on her Monday evening commentary program,...

Ronna McDaniel was supposed to be the new star contributor at NBC News. Now her position there is looking increasingly untenable.
NBC News hired the former Republican National Committee chief last week, betting that her recent access to the Trump campaign and Republican politicians would make her a valuable analyst as the 2024 election cycle intensified. But in recent days, her ability to do just that seems unclear. On Monday, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski suggested on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that NBC News reconsider its hire. A day earlier, Chuck Todd took to “Meet The Press” to chastise NBC News bosses for making moderator Kristen Welker conduct a news interview she had previously booked with McDaniel now that she was a paid operative of NBC and potentially less able to respond truthfully to hard questions.
It seems very likely that her position at NBC will remain in the news for the immediate future.

Actor Matthew Perry, who rose to stardom with his portrayal of Chandler Bing in the iconic sitcom ‘Friends’, breathed his last as he died at the age of 54 at his Los Angeles home. His portrayal broke new grounds, and over the years has become a mark of the 1990s.
One of the reasons Perry fits in so well as Chandler is his proximity to the character in some sense. Like Chandler, Perry’s parents too separated when he was an infant.
He grew up in Ottawa, Ontario and stayed with his Canadian mother, who was a journalist and served as press secretary to former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, the father of the current Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau.
As his mother later married Canadian-born broadcast journalist Keith Morrison, Matthew also lived briefly in Toronto and Montreal.

The episode of Wtf Really Happened to This Horror Movie covering Black Water was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Animal attack movies have been quite a lucrative genre for a very long time. Obviously, Jaws is the beginning and the end of the conversation but there’s so much more. Grizzlies, whales, dogs, you name it have been the focal point of horror films and will continue to be there with things like Cocaine Bear, The Meg 2, and others infiltrating theaters on a yearly basis. Most of these, of course, are fictional accounts like Stephen King giving us Cujo or any number of other on-screen animals gone wild. There are, however, the rare account that is based on a true story and today is one of those cases. Alligators and crocodiles...

President Joe Biden on Monday released a statement applauding the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers for reaching a tentative deal Sunday night, 146 days after the writers began striking.
“I applaud the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers for reaching a tentative agreement that will allow writers to return to the important work of telling the stories of our nation, our world — and of all of us,” he said. “This agreement, including assurances related to artificial intelligence, did not come easily. But its formation is a testament to the power of collective bargaining. There simply is no substitute for employers and employees coming together to negotiate in good faith toward an agreement that makes a business stronger and secures the pay, benefits and dignity that workers deserve. I urge all employers to remember that all workers — including writers,...

Jen Psaki won’t just be on MSNBC on the weekend. Although she will continue to anchor her flagship show on Sundays at noon, the former Joe Biden White House Press Secretary will also begin commentating on the NBCUniversal outlet on Mondays at 8/7c, a slot that the regular host of that hour, Chris Hayes, usually has off. Although Inside with Jen Psaki will begin airing on Mondays at 8/7c, All In With Chris Hayes will continue to hold that time slot Tuesdays through Fridays. The new schedule will start on Monday, September 25. Psaki will also continue contributing a regular column for the network’s morning newsletter, MSNBC Daily. The move will create a new Monday block at MSNBC, which will see Psaki lead into Rachel Maddow’s weekly program on Mondays at 9/8c. Many speculate that the move also comes as a means to inject Psaki into primetime proceedings whenever something national happens,...

Amongst members of the Senate, Ted Cruz (R) has a storied history of internet mishaps. From liking porn using his official X (Twitter) account to fighting with Big Bird about vaccines, the Texas Senator’s reflexive posting has made him one of the most lampoonable figures in government. But August could go down as a banner month for Cruz, who publicly embraced not one but three easily debunkable hoaxes over the course of just a few weeks.

CNN anchor Laura Coates has moved to CAA for representation, a move that could signal a new era of influence for the talent-agency giant at the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed news outlet.
In a broad overhaul of CNN’s schedule, Coates was recently named to anchor a new 11 p.m. hour at CNN, “Laura Coates Live,” where she will follow Abby Philip, who will hold forth at 10. CAA also represents Erin Burnett, who anchors CNN’s 7 p.m. hour. All told, CAA will represent two of five of the anchors who appear during CNN’s schedule between 7 p.m. to midnight., which usually represent some of the network’s most-watched hours.
In years past, CNN’s primetime was dominated by rival agency UTA, which continues to have a strong roster at CNN. The agency represents Philip — who left CNN for UTA — as well as Anderson Cooper, Jake Tapper, Don Lemon and Alisyn Camerota.

When Joe Biden made a fundraising swing through Democratic donor strongholds in San Francisco, Chicago and New York last month, one city was noticeably absent from the list: Los Angeles.
The buzz in donor and political circles is that an L.A. visit is on hold. What was then a Writers Guild of America strike and, with SAG-AFTRA joining them, is now even more of a hotspot of labor strife.
Biden has called for writers to get a “fair deal they deserved” and, after the SAG-AFTRA strike was called, the White House made a similar statement, but sources say there are concerns of the president trekking to an event where he would be mired in the politics surrounding the labor impasse, or that he would be seen taking money from studio sources given his pro-union stance.
It’s unclear when Biden ultimately will schedule a Los Angeles visit, and some...

Updated: Writers Guild of America members and supporters brought their pickets to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, this time to demonstrate at a location for the next Captain America movie.
About two dozen started picketing in late afternoon about a block away from the White House, near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 15th Street.
Diana Metzger, a comedy writer, said that this was the first on-location picket that members have been able to do in the city, where not too many productions shoot compared with Los Angeles and New York.
“It’s important to have a presence here because there are writers all across the country — not just in L.A., not just in New York — who are trying to make a living doing this,” she said. “And it is not just a handful of wealthy people in those wealthy cities, it is all over the country. They shoot all over the country.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre canceled a planned appearance on ABC’s The View Wednesday, citing “respect” for the Writers Guild of America members that work on the program but are currently on strike.
“Out of respect for striking writers, we pulled down our scheduled appearance on The View,” a White House official told The Hollywood Reporter. “President Biden and his entire administration sincerely hope that the writers strike gets resolved — and writers are given the fair deal they deserve — as soon as possible.”
Jean-Pierre had been scheduled to appear on Wednesday’s show, and was promoted as a guest as recently as Tuesday. Wednesday’s episode instead included an interview with And Just Like That star Kim Cattrall.
The View employs a couple of WGA writers, THR previously reported, though the show is largely unscripted, with co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines...

“Regressive.” “Hostile to feminism.” “A male fantasy.” “Totally disempowered.” “Women as toilet paper.” “Sleazy and tawdry.” “Porny.”
