Headed down the chimney next Halloween season is Damien Leone’s hotly-anticipated Terrifier 3, and we’re thrilled to report that Lauren Lavera has officially signed on!
Cineverse, in partnership with Bloody Disgusting, announced today that Lauren Lavera will officially return in the unrated mega-slasher Terrifier 3, reprising her role as Sienna.
Her compelling performance resonated far and wide as the breakout star of the ultra-gory Terrifier 2, solidifying her status as a rising star in the horror realm. Lavera won over fans and critics worldwide who embraced her as the next Final Girl and Sienna costumes were seen all over conventions and Halloween events this year.
Now, as the story unfolds in Creator Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3, Lavera is back to lead you through your deepest nightmares when Art the Clown unleashes chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.

Bloody Disgusting’s “Terrifier 2” will probably not win any Oscars at next year’s Academy Awards. Heck, it would be a pleasantly amusing surprise if the second Art the Clown slasher flick received any Oscar nominations, even in tech categories related to make-up or visual effects.
But the filmmakers behind this season’s breakout horror film — Ok, the season’s *other* breakout horror film (all due respect to “Smile”), have officially pitched themselves for Academy consideration.
Producer Steve Barton told TheWrap on Friday that the submission was legitimate and by the book and that the motivation for filing it was mostly because they could. After all, it’s free to submit a film, and it seems to have gotten the Academy’s attention.

“That’s also a win,” Barton said. “They know we’re coming.”

It's always impressive to see a low-budget independent horror flick break into the mainstream consciousness in the manner that "Terrifier 2" has. Slasher villains often stand out among horror characters because they firmly put a face to the madness, and few screen killers in recent memory have committed to cementing a more haunting image than that of Art the Clown.
You've seen your killer clowns, whether from the far reaches of space ("Killers Klowns from Outer Space") or the murky depths of Maine ("It"), but you've never seen a clown quite like Art. Even if you've never seen his movies, you've likely seen his demented face. Art was initially a throughline antagonist in director Damien Leone's 2013 anthology flick "All Hallows Eve," which itself was composed of the filmmaker's short films from years past. Initially played by Mike Giannelli, it was David Howard Thornton who would secure the pantomime killer's legacy in 2016's "Terrifier.

Warner Bros. has slated the new adaptation of Stephen King's It for September 8, 2017. The film will be directed by Andres Muschietti (Mama), and rumors have pegged it for a shoot in Toronto this summer. There is no word yet on who will play Pennywise the Clown; Will Poulter (We're the Millers) was previously attached, but his involvement is unclear since original director Cary Fukunaga departed the project last year. Coincidentally, I spoke with Dread Central founder and editor-in-chief Steve "Uncle Creepy" Barton about the project earlier this week. You can watch that video above or below.

It was only a matter of time before I welcomed Dread Central founder and editor-in-chief Uncle Creepy (not his Christian name!) to Nightmare Fuel, and this week was the week! For those not in the know, Creepy's real name is Steve Barton, and over the past few years the horror maestro has added "film producer" to his resume with his work on the excellent Nightmare on Elm Street documentary Never Sleep Again and the horror-comedy anthology Zombieworld. (Next up: the monster-movie anthology flick Monsterland, slated to hit VOD and DVD on June 7th.) This week, talk turned to the long-developing, two-part adaptation of Stephen King's It, which is rumored to begin shooting this summer in Toronto with director Andres Muschietti (Mama) at the helm. While Steve and I both agreed that the 1990 TV version left much to be desired, it remains legendary for Tim Curry's terrifying performance as Pennywise the Clown,...

With writer/director David Robert Mitchell's Cannes-premiered "It Follows" bringing in over $16 million at the domestic box office on a slim $2 million budget, the theatrical market seems ripe for another arty horror movie hit to arise. So which of this year's festival favorites could follow (no pun intended) in "It Follows'" footsteps? With the close of the 3rd annual Stanley Film Festival on Sunday, below I've pegged six buzzed-about horror titles from this year's three major festivals so far (Sundance, SXSW and Stanley) that could become the next unlikely breakout in theaters. "The Witch" Director: Robert Eggers Cast: Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie Synopsis: New England, 1630: William and Katherine lead a devout Christian life, homesteading on the edge of an impassible wilderness, with five children. When their newborn son mysteriously vanishes and their crops fail, the family begins to turn on one another. Screened at: Sundance...

Ufc
Shogun Rua is a legend. Make no mistake about that. He has had wars in Pride. He has been Ufc Light Heavyweight champion. He took part in a fight against Dan Henderson in 2011 that many feel is up there as the greatest Ufc fight of all time, if not the greatest Mma fight of all time.
However, his career has been in something of a tailspin since losing his title to Jon Jones in March of 2011. Jones made the most of a last minute title shot, shocked the world, took Shogun’s belt, and went on to become the most dominant champion in Ufc history. Shogun, meanwhile, struggled to get back on track. He beat Forrest Griffin later in the year, then lost the aforementioned bout with Dan Henderson. He picked up a win over Brandon Vera in 2012, then dropped two straight, to Alexander Gustafsson and Chael Sonnen. He...

Creepy #18
Writers: Various
Artists: Various
Letters: Nate Piekos of Blambot & Peter Bagge
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
It’s that time of year again. The days grow shorter, and the nights grow longer. Yet we tend to sleep a lot less. Not surprising, considering the number of scary stories, movies, and video games we subject ourselves to throughout the month of October. Should you actually treasure sleep, Creepy #18 is a mix of comedy, horror, and poetic justice.
My personal favorite tale of terror is a historical fiction piece that centers on Rufus Wilmot Griswold, an American anthologist, editor, poet, critic, and rival to Edgar Allan Poe. Historically speaking, the trouble between Poe and Griswold began with The Poets and Poetry of America anthology. Poe submitted several several works to the volume. Only three made the cut, and Poe probably wouldn’t have minded so much is the rest of the poetry...

Like the Crypt-Keeper of EC Comic’s Tales from the Crypt, Uncle Creepy is a horror host of the paneled page, appearing in the original Creepy comic book series that ran from 1964 to 1983 and its relaunch by Dark Horse that began in 2009. Now the 50th anniversary of Uncle Creepy and his series’ first printing by Warren Publishing is creeping up on readers, and we have a look at the celebratory issue.
Creepy #18, the golden anniversary issue of the series, will hit comic book store shelves on October 8th. We have more details and a look at the issue below:

Those Guardians of the Galaxy continued to rule the box office this Labor Day weekend. So where did that leave the horror offering As Above/So Below and the 30th anniversary re-release of arguably the most influential horror comedy of a generation?
As Above/So Below managed to continue two trends at once. First, the Paris-set Universal/Legendary horror film marks the latest found footage movie promoted in such a way as to hope you didn't know that going in. Just how on the outs is the found footage genre that Hollywood marketers are now going out of their way to downplay the format?
As Above/So Below also continues the trend of wide release horror movies in 2014 not exactly lighting the box office on fire. Falling near the middle of the pack at #5 with an estimated $10.3 million for the Labor Day weekend, according to Box Office Mojo, that's just...

As Above/So Below opens today, and reviews (including mine and Uncle Creepy's) are mixed. Before rendering your own verdict, hear from director/co-writers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle about their experiences making the film.
Dread Central: When I walked into the screening of As Above/So Below, I was not prepared for a modern twist on an old fashioned archeologist vs. a curse adventure. Then there’s this Satanic element and sort of a body count/slasher vibe, too. How did you manage to put everything in there and still make it very linear?
John Erick Dowdle: You know, we just trusted our intuition. It just felt right to us, more than anything else. It was funny; this movie moved so quickly, which is a rare thing. We had to stay intuitive and maybe a little less intellectual. I think that really served this movie really well.

Hot of the heels of Uncle Creepy's "The Walking Dead" Complete Fourth Season Blu-ray unboxing comes more goodness for fans of the AMC zombie series.
I stopped watching "The Walking Dead" after the mid-season finale last year. I found myself loosing interest gradually, and once the Governor confrontation came to its protracted conclusion, I just realized I was over the series. People have told me that season four's "back nine" were far superior and that I should catch up. Should I bother? I must admit that these clips do little to change my mind as the show just feels "flat" to me (and has for quite some time).
But I know it's got a strong following here on Dread Central, and that many of you are probably looking forward to this release. So check the deleted scenes below and get read to snag the Blu-ray when it hits stores on August 26th.

When A&E announced they were recreating Norman Bates' basement on the Sdcc show floor, we thought it sounded pretty cool; and now that we've toured it, we can assure you that it is! Check out our image gallery along with Season 3's teaser art.
"Bates Motel's" Comic-Con exhibit, which allows fans to interact with the taxidermy studio, contains props similar to those used on the set of the series. It also provides an opportunity to create a custom Gif with the infamous taxidermic bird inspired by the world of Alfred Hitchcock.
You can see our own Andrew Kasch along with yours truly and Uncle Creepy in said GIFs at the bottom of the page.
In addition, fans can pick up a “Bates Motel” themed temporary tattoo designed by the geek-loving artists from A&E’s upcoming series “Epic Ink.”
You'll find the basement in Booth #4016/4018. Just look for the big "Bates Motel" sign!

Ufc Fight Night: McGregor vs. Brandao took place Saturday night in Dublin, Ireland for the local crowd, and it proved to be an exciting affair.
Going down Saturday afternoon for those of us on the other side of the pond, it was a card worth getting started early for. The raucous Irish crowd cheering and chanting throughout every bout made for an amped up, insanely fun event right from the very first fight of the preliminary card. For the second event in a row, the Ufc really hit it out of the park with the card it provided, even if it wasn’t the most exciting card on paper, and only featured one bout that truly had any sort of title implications.
The star of the show, of course, was the brash, trash talking Irish fighter Conor McGregor, a former two-weight class champ in Cage Warriors. Could McGregor back his words up in the cage?...

Managing director of Emea events Garry Cook stated that the event sold out in 35 minutes, showing the passion of Irish fans for Mma.
In anticipation for the UK’s biggest mixed martial arts event ever, we preview the so-called Conor McGregor show as he prepares to take on Diego Brandao in a colossal Featherweight clash with huge implications on the current rankings.
The rest of the card features a deluge of exciting match ups, including a very tasty Flyweight battle between Brad “One Punch” Pickett and “Uncle Creepy” Ian McCall. This fight was originally scheduled for Fight Night 37 in London, however an injury foced McCall to withdraw from the fight. Now these two will finally get a chance to clash.

It’s the second Fight Night of the week as the Ufc comes to Dublin, Ireland Saturday!
Ufc Fight Night: McGregor vs. Brandao, numerically Ufc Fight Night 46, and sometimes referred to as Ufc Fight Night: Dublin (confused yet?), airing on Fight Pass, was originally headlined by a featherweight fight between Irish Mma stand-out Conor McGregor and Cole Miller. Back at the start of May on Ufc Tonight, McGregor, not one to ever shy away from trash talk, had this to say about Cole Miller, and Miller’s earlier callout of him:
“That man opened his mouth. He was under the influence of post-fight adrenaline and it has the same effect as alcohol. It makes you brave. But guess what happened? It wore off. Now he has to face the reality that he’s going to face me – me coming back from this injury is a man possessed.”

Welcome to The Gasp Menagerie! Recently I discovered that I share with our co-founder, leader, and resident pop-culture icon Uncle Creepy a passion for all things paranormal. Ghosts, cryptozoology, the unexplained... all that creepy stuff. Hence, our beefed up coverage of that realm of the weird under the title The Gasp Menagerie.
First up, one from my own childhood: The Vaile Mansion in Independence, Missouri, just a few miles from the hospital I was born in and the house I lived in as a child.
I'll start off by saying this: The details surrounding this house are straight out of a horror film. Some of this is legend, but most of it is historical fact, and I say that because many of you aren't going to believe me. It sounds too much like viral marketing for a new film to be true, but a great deal of this is verifiable fact.
