The titular Artik (Jerry G. Angelo) is a comic book obsessed serial killer who spends his days sketching and his nights teaching his son Adam how to get away with murder, literally, until the boy befriends a mysterious man, Holton (Chase Williamson), who threatens to expose their horrifying family secret.
I’m not going to lie. There’s no way these days that I can give Any film starring Chase Williamson an unbiased review… The actor has been a solid performer for years, appearing in a myriad of genre films, including two of my favourite modern horrors: Sequence Break and John Dies at the End. As such I find myself enjoying films on his performance alone – and Artik is no different.

While theatrical exhibitors continue to reap profits showcasing the stories of military men and women on the big screen, streaming services have not only become a destination for smaller and sometimes lesser-known projects, but have also provided a new and expanding opportunity to serve the veteran community with more consistent and eclectic depictions of heroism and sacrifice. Content providers like Netflix, FandangoNow and Amazon — in both acquiring titles from smaller distributors and developing them specifically for in-house production companies — are leading the charge in supplying the military community with expanded entertainment and representation on screen.
The challenge for many of these services is to assemble enough titles for veterans and their families to feel like they have a variety of options, not to mention service the dozens of other communities seeking movies and shows that reflect their experiences and culture. Imagine if Leatherface had a comic book obsession and you'll start to get a finger on the deadly pulse of Artik. Starring Jerry G. Angelo, Chase Williamson, Lauren Ashley Carter, Gavin White, and Matt Mercer, Artik takes viewers to a sunflower farm where sadistic things happen in the barn at night. The feature film debut of Tom Botchii, Artik recently had its world premiere at the Popcorn Frights Film Festival in Fort Lauderdale, and while at the festival, Daily Dead had the chance to speak with Botchii about his film's talented cast, unique story, and surprises that sprang up from his filming location.
Thanks for taking the time to chat ahead of Artik's world premiere at Popcorn Frights. This is your first feature film. How long has this idea been percolating? How'd it go from an idea to the film? Was it a multiyear process for you?
Tom Botchii: Honestly,...

Angelo as "Artik", plus a small cast including Lauren Ashley Carter, Matt Mercer, David Robbins, and Gavin White. This definitely looks like it's only for die-hard horror fans who can stomach this kind of violence. Featuring a very colorful poster by artist Christopher Shy - which you can see below. Jack the Ripper. Few names live in such infamy, and rightly so. The man was an absolute butcher who's never been 100% identified by all those who have pursued his gruesome case files. Now, decades later, he's back!
