Paramount+ today announced that production is underway on the highly anticipated second season of the original drama series Lioness (previously known as Special Ops: Lioness).
From Oscar nominee Taylor Sheridan, the espionage thriller is currently filming in Texas and features a star-studded cast, including series lead and executive producer Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, Emmy Award nominee Michael Kelly, with Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, and Academy Award winner and executive producer Nicole Kidman.
The Lioness series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios exclusively for Paramount+.
Lioness, inspired by an actual U.S. Military program, follows the life of Joe (Saldaña) while she attempts to balance her personal and professional life as the tip of the CIA’s spear in the war on terror.
The series also stars Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, Lamonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Thad Luckinbill, and Hannah Love Lanier.

The 4:30 Movie is the sixteenth feature film from director Kevin Smith – and while he was making the movie, he thought he was making something that would get a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. But the MPA saw it differently. When they had the chance to watch the movie earlier this year, they felt the sexual references in the dialogue were enough for the movie to earn an R rating for sexual content. Smith appealed the rating (and subscribers to That Kevin Smith Club got some interesting insight into the appeals process), but the ratings board decided to stick with the R. They confirmed today that The 4:30 Movie will remain an R rated film.
Smith has a history of being able to get his films re-rated on appeal. Clerks and Zack and Miri Make a Porno were both given Nc-17 ratings, but were re-rated R on appeal.

Saban Films announced today the acquisition of worldwide rights to the upcoming comedy The 4:30 Movie, directed and written by Kevin Smith.
Set in the summer of 1986, The 4:30 Movie is a coming-of-age story about three sixteen-year-old friends who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local multiplex. But when one of the guys also invites the girl of his dreams (Siena Agudong) to see the latest comedy, each of the teens will learn something serious about life and love before the credits roll.
Set in the mobile phoneless, social media-free era of the ’80s, Smith shot The 4:30 Movie at his Smodcastle Cinemas in New Jersey—the same movie theater he haunted every weekend as a teenager. Two years ago, Smith and his co-owners saved the century-old Atlantic Highlands bijou from demolition, renaming it after his podcast theater.

From man-eating beds to serial-killing gingerbread cookies, there’s no shortage of absurd premises in the horror genre. However, not all of these weird movies are created equal, and I’d argue that a silly premise is only half the battle when crafting a legitimately entertaining piece of absurdist genre cinema. Personally, I think that the very best of these strange projects succeed because they take an utterly ridiculous concept and play it completely straight, often revealing unexpected terrors as filmmakers show us worlds where tumors can go homicidal and mad scientists can stitch people into human centipedes.
One of my favorite examples of this kind of cinematic absurdity done right is Kevin Smith’s controversial horror-comedy Tusk, a divisive feature that’s almost equally loved and hated by the horror community. And with the flick currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, I thought that this might be a great time...

"Tusk" was a theatrical experience that I will never forget. The trailer did not give much away, and it was difficult to tell whether Kevin Smith was aiming for parody or serious horror. Was this really about someone being held captive by a seaman with an affinity for walruses? The idea for "Tusk" began with a SModcast episode where Smith and his friend/producer Scott Mosier poked fun at a classified advertisement made by a homeowner who offered free lodging to someone if they dressed as a walrus for two hours a day. The strange, real-life story inspired a brainstorming session about how they might bring the story to life on film.
"I could have easily just been like, 'Oh, that was a stupid stoner idea that I won't follow through on,' but, I don't know, there seemed to be a lot of nobility in taking a stoner idea...

Are you ready for your next TV obsession?
Neon, Netflix's highly-anticipated reggaeton comedy-drama, premieres Thursday, October 19, 2023.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at a clip from one of the freshman season's most pivotal episodes.
In the clip, we see Isa, an A-list Latin pop star who gathers her friends for a trip to her exclusive tropical island getaway.
In perhaps a nod to the rich and famous, our three leads get out of their car to escape to the private jet for a luxury holiday.
They have a pre-conceived expectation of what's about to go down, but the truth is, they couldn't be more wrong.
Isa, played by the Umbrella Academy's Genesis Rodriguez, tells them this isn't like the getaways other celebrities can give them.
How?
We're not giving it all away here because we want you to be at least a little surprised when you watch the TV clip below.

Netflix’s official trailer for its upcoming Daddy Yankee-executive produced series “Neon” showed its star, Santi, (Tyler Dean Flores) is no “one-hit-wonder.”

And Santi means what he says, as he and his two friends Ness (Emma Ferreira) and Felix set their sights on South Florida to pursue their dreams of putting Santi on the map as a Reggaeton artist in the music industry — even it means preparing for the biggest meeting of their lives inside a gas station bathroom or living in a 2009 Toyota Corolla.

February has truly been a ride as Trace and I venture through the wilds of Weird Sex Month. After spending the last few weeks of January buried in films of the 2000-2010s with remake House of Wax (2005) and Crimson Peak (2015), February has been dedicated to the early 1980s with Videodrome (1983) and Possession (1981).
Now we’re up to 2014’s Tusk, Kevin Smith‘s second foray into horror. The film stars Justin Long as Wallace, a d-bag podcaster who travels to Canada to mock a boy who cut off his leg on the internet. The killer moose movie Moose Jaws has been brewing in the mind of Kevin Smith for several years now. The project, which has always been described as simply “Jaws with a moose“, was meant to wrap up Smith’s True North Trilogy, which began with Tusk and continued with Yoga Hosers… but for some reason, it has proven to be more difficult to get Moose Jaws into production than its predecessors. The Moose Jaws problem may have been solved, as during a recent convention appearance Smith gave a positive update on the long-awaited horror film.

Kevin Smith's 2014 film "Tusk" has a rather strange origin story. On a 2013 episode of his long-running podcast "SModcast" -- the episode titled "The Walrus and the Carpenter" -- Smith and his co-host Scott Mosier came across a real-life British want ad from a man seeking a roommate. The want ad described a strange scenario wherein the lodger would be allowed to stay with the man rent-free, provided the lodger dress and behave like a walrus. The man who posted the ad evidently recalled a wonderful time in his past when he had bonded with a real-life walrus and wanted to recreate the feeling.
Smith and Mosier spend 60 full minutes discussing the veracity of the ad and laughing as they imagine this walrus-like scenario as it might appear in a feature film. The two of them become so enamored by their conversation that, by the end of the hour, they...

The best thing about "The Umbrella Academy" is the cast. The series has a lot of fun things going on, from its killer soundtrack to wild world-building, but nothing can top the clear camaraderie and chemistry of this cast. I might have had some serious issues with the end of season 3 of the Netflix series, but I love the cast and characters they play too much to ever give up on being a Brellie.

Horror — and horror-adjacent films — have a big "it was all in their head!" problem. To be fair, this isn't a new trend — the 1920 silent classic "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" uses this idea with now-iconic results. But I feel like more and more filmmakers are leaning back on this when they attempt to make a genre pic. I don't mean to say they're all making movies where everything is a hallucination, but it seems more often than not that when a filmmaker wants to give us something scary or disturbing, they simply shoe-horn in a dream and/or fantasy sequence and call it a day. And it really feels lazy.
Mercedes Bryce Morgan's "Fixation" takes this to the extreme, dropping us into a story where nothing can be trusted. Is it all a dream? A nightmare? A very elaborate show? You'll have to watch to find out — but will...

What did Dora (Maddie Hasson) do all those years ago? That’s the question she’s asking herself as she sits straightjacketed in a hospital she doesn’t remember entering. What did her family do to her to earn that ire? That’s the question her doctors (Genesis Rodriguez’s Dr. Melanie and Stephen McHattie’s Dr. Clark) hope to answer for her through an invasively experimental psychiatric evaluation. While the two questions ultimately go together considering her actions were a response to that abuse, separating them should always be undertaken with extreme delicacy. Dora’s overall wellbeing should remain paramount regardless of how effective the therapy could prove by pushing the envelope beyond its limits since clarity can sometimes hurt as much as it can heal. Unless, of course, something else is going on.

After Long’s quote made the news rounds, Smith took the opportunity to confirm his Tusk sequel plans on an episode of Fatman Beyond, the podcast he hosts with Marc Bernardin. Although Smith has previously said he intended to put Long and Rodriguez’s Tusk characters in his killer moose movie Moose Jaws, the sequel he’s planning is not Moose Jaws. It is indeed a Tusk 2… or, as Smith is calling it Tusks. But the S at the end is a dollar sign: Tusk.

The 2014 horror film Tusk (watch it Here) was meant to be the first installment in what writer/director Kevin Smith was calling his “True North Trilogy”, to be followed by Yoga Hosers – which did get made – and the killer moose movie Moose Jaws – which we’re still waiting for. But in late 2020, Smith said he had an idea for a Tusk 2 as well… and according to Tusk star Justin Long, it sounds like he’s ready to start pushing the sequel idea toward production.
Speaking with Slash Film, Long said,
You’ll be happy to hear, Kevin just announ– I mean, I guess they’re talking about it. They’re doing Tusk 2, I think. … He texted us all the other day, Haley [Joel Osment] and Genesis [Rodriguez], and he told us that he wanted to do it, and I thought it was a joke. And then I realized he was being serious.

We heard a rumor that one scene from The Umbrella Academy almost didn't make it into season three. We're referring to the uncomfortable moment when Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) used her rumor power, which has the ability to control another person's actions, on Luther (Tom Hopper). "I heard a rumor you stay," Allison said to her adopted brother, who had finally found love with Sparrow Academy member Sloane (Genesis Rodriguez). As Luther begged for Allison to release him, she used her power once more, stating, "I heard a rumor you want me." Though Luther initially succumbed to the mind control, kissing Allison, he used all of his super strength to eventually...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Umbrella Academy Season 3.] At the close of Season 3, the Umbrellas are once again in for a major shock — and they don’t even know all of it! After dealing with the kugelblitz and facing off with the Sparrows (the kids Colm Feore’s Reginald adopted in a new timeline instead of them), The Umbrella Academy reset the universe. Post-reset, Allison has her husband, Ray (Yusuf Gatewood), from the ’60s back, as well as her daughter. Meanwhile, the rest of the Umbrellas find themselves without their powers and part ways. Luther’s (Tom Hopper) wife, Sloane (Genesis Rodriguez), is Mia. Diego (David Castañeda) has his fingers back and is off to make a life with Lila (Ritu Arya), who’s pregnant. Five (Aidan Gallagher) has his arm back. TV Insider turned to executive producer Steve Blackman to find out what could ...

This article contains spoilers for the ending of The Umbrella Academy season 3.
As far as Umbrella Academy finales go, season 3’s “Oblivion” is unusually, well…final.
With the respective conclusions of its first two seasons, The Umbrella Academy finished on chaotic, potentially world-threatening cliffhangers that would need immediate addressing at the top of the following season.
The ending of season 1 saw the unfortunate destruction of planet Earth with our heroes escaping to parts (and times) unknown with only seconds to spare. Season 2 then brought the Hargreeves children back to the “present” only to discovery that something had gone horribly wrong as “The Sparrow Academy” were unwelcome intruders in their own home. By contrast, season 3 leaves things off with quite a few plots settled.
Reginald Hargreeves seemingly achieves one of his biggest goals and his “children” get the opportunity to start their lives over, albeit without the crutch of their powers.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Umbrella Academy Season 3, Episodes 8-10, “A Wedding at the End of the World,” “Seven Bells,” and “Oblivion.”] After a season of spinning its wheels with a smattering of scattered storylines, The Umbrella Academy gains some traction and steps on the gas in the last three episodes of its third season. “A Wedding at the End of the World” is a partial pause in the action as the team—plus Sloane (Genesis Rodriguez), Ben (Justin H. Min), and Reginald (Colm Feore)—witness the wedding of Luther (Tom Hopper) and Sloane the day before the world is set to end. There are a few moving moments, like when Luther asks Viktor (Elliot Page) to be his best man, or when Klaus (Robert Sheehan) starts to bond with the new Ben, having realized the guy is lonely and just wants Reginald to love him. There are also some “typical Umbrella Academy” moments,...

A TV show introducing some fresh faces is nothing new. Casting turnover is one of the ways that the medium is able to stay fresh, year after year. Still, there are normal casting tweaks and then there is what The Umbrella Academy is set to do in season 3.
Fans of the series will recall that, at the end of season 2, the Hargreeves children’s time-meddling came back to bite them once again – this time in a particularly spectacular fashion. When Luther, Diego, Allison, and company arrived back to the “present” from their journey in 1963 Dallas, they discovered that a whole new team crime-fighting team was occupying The Umbrella Academy mansion.
Their former father Reginald Hargreeves announced this new team as the Sparrow Academy, and it featured five human silhouettes, one ominous looking cube, and the resurrection of the Umbrellas’ own dearly-departed brother Ben. Suffice it to say, the Sparrow Academy...

Netflix’s comic book adaptation “The Umbrella Academy” returns for a third season while marking a notable milestone for transgender representation onscreen.

In Season 3 of “The Umbrella Academy,” the gifted Hargreeves siblings have found a new foe in the rival Sparrow Academy, which took their place during a time traveling mission to save the world. Netflix dropped the official trailer Thursday, giving fans a look at the insanity to come, including countless fight sequences, mysterious powers and a kugelblitz — a black hole formed from radiation that threatens to swallow the entire universe.
“When we jumped here, we created a time paradox. Our little paradox brought forth a kugelblitz,” Aidan Gallagher’s Number Five says in the trailer.
“What the hell is a kugelblitz?,” Elliot Page’s Viktor Hargeeves asks. “Essentially, we’re screwed,” Number Five responds.
This season, fans will also see changes in Page’s character, who was re-named Viktor from Vanya after Page came out as transgender in 2020. In March, Page announced that his character will also come out as trans on the new season.

“The Umbrella Academy” returns for Season 3 this summer, and they’ve got a whole new time paradox to contend with — and a whole new “family.” Netflix debuted the first Season 3 trailer on Thursday, finally revealing the long-awaited Sparrow Academy in action after their arrival was teased in the Season 2 finale.
Picking up where that left off, Season 3 finds the Umbrella Academy returned from preventing an apocalypse in the past only to discover they completely changed the present — in fact, the Umbrella Academy doesn’t exist anymore, and in their place, they find the Sparrow Academy: an alternate version assembled when Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) adopted an (almost) entirely different lineup of seven children to start his superhero team.
As series creator and showrunner Steve Blackman explained to EW, “the Umbrellas are a family that didn’t know how to be superheroes. The Sparrows are superheroes who never knew how to be a family…...

Netflix has released first look images for “The Umbrella Academy” Season 3, offering a glimpse at the new timeline (and fight for the future) awaiting the oddball heroes in the new season.
After shutting down a 1963 apocalypse in Season 2, the Hargreeves, aka the Umbrella Academy, return home to the present day for a quick breather and short-lived relief over saving the timeline. But it doesn’t take long to realize they’ve changed the timeline more than they expected, and along with the realization that things are not completely Ok, comes the Sparrow Academy: a chilly, clever and fashionable group that clashes with the Umbrellas as soon as they enter the story. An unknown violent force causes damage (possibly thanks to them), bringing the Umbrellas to enlist Dad’s new family to help them correct something they may have caused while trying to fix the Universe’s timeline.

As previously reported, however, the new season takes place in a reality where our heroes are unknowns.
In the new timeline, Reginald Hargreeves has created another family of super-powered beings, and we should probably expect a lot of drama.
The students of the Sparrow Academy are played by Justin Cornwell (Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey), Britne Oldford (Hunters), Jake Epstein (Suits), Genesis Rodriguez (Big Hero 6), and Cazzie David.

The third season of “The Umbrella Academy” will premiere on June 22, showrunner Steve Blackman announced at SXSW on Sunday. Netflix also dropped first-look images of the cast and a Season 3 teaser, which shows the Umbrella Academy face-to-face with their new counterparts, the Sparrow Academy.
After going back in time to 1963 and saving the world at the end of Season 2, the new season will pick up where the Hargreeves siblings left off. In an altered timeline, Reginald created the Sparrow Academy, a stylish and smart group of superheroes that mirrors the Umbrella Academy. After a violent confrontation, the two groups must learn to team up and defeat a new entity that threatens to destroy everything. The logline from Netflix asks, “Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?”
