Last year, a bidding war was going down between Netflix and Amazon for a lucrative package deal. The two streaming giants were in a fight to acquire the film rights to the novella by Don Winslow called Crime 101. The package deal had included two attached stars — Chris Hemsworth and Pedro Pascal. Although, Pascal has now reportedly been replaced by Mark Ruffalo. It also has a director set to helm the project with Bart Layton, whose credits include the documentary The Imposter from 2012 and American Animals from 2018. Amazon had come out as the victor and according to Deadline, Saltburn and Masters of the Air star Barry Keoghan will now join the heist film.
Crime 101 is said to be a crime drama in the vein of Michael Mann’s Heat. The plot of the film has yet to be released; however, Deadline’s summary of the novel reads that “the...

Marvel star Mark Ruffalo has entered into negotiations to reunite with Chris Hemsworth on Amazon MGM Studio’s adaptation of ‘Crime 101.’
Based on author Don Winslow’s novella of the same name, the novella tells the story of a string of high-level jewel heists up and down the Pacific Coast Highway that has gone unsolved for years, mostly because the perpetrator has lived by a strict code he calls “Crime 101”. Police attribute the thefts to the Colombian cartels. But Detective Lou Lubesnick’s gut says it’s the work of just one man.

What do you do when you need more than half a dozen classic 1950s-era Ferrari and Maserati race cars to make a film, but the originals today would sell at auction for $30 million or $40 million each? If you’re Ferrari director Michael Mann, you build them from scratch, of course, with historically faithful details to make even the most strident car lover grin with approval.
The film, which stars Adam Driver as Ferrari founder and racer Enzo Ferrari, re-creates the 1957 Mille Miglia, the famous 1,000-kilometer Italian road race that ran from Brescia, through the Futa Pass, onto Rome and back to Brescia.
The production design of Ferrari was exacting: Everything was scrupulously studied, detailed and, eventually, reproduced for the film — from the signage on the Mille Miglia starting ramp in Brescia to the wheel lugs of a Ferrari 801 F1 car, on down to pasta company Buitoni’s logo on the...

A lot of directors make great movies — but Michael Mann creates great experiences, films that give the audience an almost tactile sense of what his characters are feeling and thinking down to the smallest perceptible detail. In his debut feature “Thief” he took the viewer through every aspect of safecracking, from the tools and the process to the precise cocktail of emotions the title character felt in both moments of success and catastrophic failure. In “Manhunter,” Mann found visual and aural corollaries for the experience of an FBI profiler putting himself in the mindset of a serial killer, persuading the viewer to link their perspective to that of the profiler in the same way the profiler was linking his to his subject. Mann’s greatest film, “Heat,” takes the raw materials of a cops-and-robbers action flick and approaches them so realistically that it takes three hours to cover all the...

Electric Zoo returned to Randall’s Island Park this Labor Day weekend, but not without some conflict. The first day of the festival was canceled on Friday, hours before gates opened, due to incomplete construction of the main stage. Agitated crowds breached the gates Sunday after being informed the venue reached its capacity. Despite stage design errors and start time delays, the artists who were able to perform during the remaining two days electrified audiences with bass-heavy hits and hypnotic visuals.

As Hollywood waits to see what may come out of Friday’s meeting between the WGA and the AMPTP, filmmakers and producers at all levels have been engaged in a complex dialogue on the lightning-rod topic that has emerged during the concurrent actors strike: the SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement.
As of Tuesday, a total of 123 interim agreements have been handed out in both film and TV since the guild’s strike began, to projects from “truly independent producers” that have agreed to abide by the terms of the new contract SAG-AFTRA is pushing for with the studios and streamers.
The topic of the interim agreements, which are being studied and handed out by a group within the actors union, are being discussed, dissected and debated on the picket lines and social media, with actors such as Sarah Silverman voicing their concern that such a policy could prolong the strike.

The producer Kenny Beats has noticed some strange phenomena at his shows over the past few years. For one, the crowds have gotten noticeably bigger, as have merch sales and streams. But most notably, he says, he’s grown accustomed to members of the audience viewing him more as a friend than a performer. This is thanks to his massively popular Discord server, which hosts approximately 135,000 users and has rooms dedicated to questions about audio engineering and specific production software, as well as general channels dedicated to banter or games.

Barry Keoghan has been set to play Billy the Kid in an upcoming biopic set to retell the notorious criminal’s story.
The new telling of his story will lean into Billy’s Irish ancestry and complicated childhood.

His first arrest for robbery came a year later, and by the time he was 18, he was wanted for murder after an altercation in Arizona. Riding high on acclaim for his recent work (including an Oscar nomination for The Banshees Of Inisherin), Barry Keoghan is looking to strike while the iron is hot and set up some projects on his own. He's now pushing forward a Billy the Kid biopic that has long been a film the actor has wanted to make.

Sometimes, it is tragic when a character dies. Other times, death is a cause for celebration, a villain vanquished at long last. Either way, death closes the book on a character, and dealing with that is a huge deal.
We have to reconcile ourselves to a world without this character. We have to make peace with never seeing them again. Well, never say never because sometimes, characters come back from the dead.
This twist has routes in soap operas, but as annoying as redemption arcs are, it's impressive when a show can surprise us.
If we didn't see a body, we might suspect something, but sometimes we believe someone is dead only to learn they aren't.

One of my greatest accomplishments to date is the fact that aged eleven I was interviewed by Britain’s longest-serving TV breakfast host and queen of morning TV Lorraine Kelly! This was one of the greatest experiences as me and my family were whisked up from our humble home in Cardiff, put on a train (which even then was an extravagant cost) and put into the penthouse suite of the extremely ostentatious Park Plaza Hotel in the heart of central London to talk to Lorraine about the positive effects that Slimming World had had on me. The entire episode was dedicated to debating whether or not young children should be able to join slimming programmes such as Slimming World and I was the ambassador for such groups and the idea of healthy swaps rather than dieting! This was such a surreal experience for my younger self as I was able...

The post-apocalyptic journey of the Snowpiercer, the last ark of humanity, will come to a close with its fourth and final season.
As a massive breakout hit, it grew from its roots as an extreme examination of class warfare into a character-driven, emotionally wrought, and intellectually challenging study of social governance in a world where hope survives through will alone.
