The great guest stars continue running to Walker! In the past few weeks, Jared Padalecki‘s Texas Ranger drama has welcomed the returns of Matt Barr and his fellow Walker: Independence costar Justin Johnson Cortez, who has been heating up Austin as Det. Luna. And now, the CW hit that had better be renewed is about to get a visit from some major TV royalty. TV Insider has learned exclusively that SAG award-winning and Emmy-nominated actress Sharon Lawrence (from the equally Western-tinged Joe Picket) is set to debut in the May 22 episode, “Witt’s End,” as a barrel raced-turned-crime boss named Joanna. Described as “a killer in Wranglers,” the only thing that surpasses the villain’s “greedy grit and tenacity is her vendetta against those that have wronged her.” Who that may be remains a mystery, but we’re betting it’s someone with in the Walker camp—especially...

For a guy who wears some big boots, it’s all about baby steps for our boy Cordi. In TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek (which you can watch above) of the April 17 episode of Walker, “Lessons from the Gift Shop,” our favorite Texas Ranger (Jared Padalecki) is making a grand-ish romantic gesture to his lady love (Odette Annable), and it’s sweeter than Sweet Tea, y’all. It’s also about time! Not that it hasn’t been a rough road for these two to get here. Friends since high school, Geri was besties with Cordi’s future wife Emily (Genevieve Padalecki) and dating his ride-or-die, Hoyt Rawlins (Matt Barr). Before the show launched, the close-knit crew was rocked by the tragedy of Em’s murder and a bit of betrayal—while Cordell entered law enforcement, Hoyt fell into a life of crime. Things seemed to be getting back...

Walker is one of the few shows on The CW from an earlier regime, back when the network catered to younger audiences.
Of course, the series skews older than The CW’s typical series, which probably explains why it survived when the network’s younger-skewing fare like Charmed, Dynasty, Legacies, and Nancy Drew all got the pink slip.
Walker, a reboot of the successful Walker, Texas Ranger, has managed to break through as a reboot because it has brought plenty of contemporary storylines to a format that worked well not so long ago.
As we delve into Walker Season 4, the series is at a tipping point because it will be judged more harshly than some other offerings, such as Wild Cards, which has performed admirably as a co-production.
Plenty of details have emerged about Walker Season 4, but we don’t want you to do all the digging for intel.

After The CW renewed Walker for a shortened fourth season, it was inevitable the news would not be good for the prequel series Walker: Independence.
The network officially canceled Walker: Independence Tuesday night, months after the freshman season was capped at 13 episodes.
Admittedly, interest in Walker: Independence paled compared to the original series, but the numbers were still substantial -- by CW standards.
With a week of DVR viewing factored in, Walker: Independence Season 1 averaged just under one million viewers and a 0.1 rating in the demo.
It ranked as the network's #4 most-watched series among total viewers, which was a decent metric.
Set in the late 1800s, the series followed Abby Walker, an affluent and tough-minded Bostonian whose husband was murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West.

The CW has canceled Walker prequel Walker Independence after one season.
The move, which was expected, follows the CW’s renewal of mothership series Walker earlier today.
The bulk of the CW’s existing scripted series will be canceled this week as the network is transitioning to a new business model of lower-cost scripted programming in pursuit of profitability. While Walker is the CW’s most watched series, Walker: Independence was in the middle of the pack ratings-wise.

Cortez will appear on the contemporary Walker as Detective Sonny Alcala, a shrewd Homicide Detective who got his start working closely with Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki) and Captain James (Coby Bell) on a case years ago. The Detective initially calls Walker as a courtesy to let him know of a death relating to a case, but something doesn’t quite add up.
The Walker origin series Walker Independence is set in the 1800s and follows Abigail Walker, the ancestor of Padalecki’s Cordell Walker. Cortez plays Calian, a member of an Indigenous scouting party outside Independence, Texas. In the midseason finale, Calian...

There will be no third season of Blood & Treasure.
The treasure-hunting drama has been canceled after two seasons, according to TV Line.
No reason has been given for the cancellation, but the writing was on the wall when the show was renewed in 2019 while the first season was airing, and then the show disappeared.
It started its life on CBS, but it was announced in 2022 that the series would return with its long-delayed second season that year.
Given the length of time between seasons, many assumed the show was dead.
Fueling the rumors that the show was dead even more was that the cast moved on to other projects.
Co-creator Matthew Federman wrote the following on Twitter on the day of the Season 2 finale airing.
"I don't know what the future holds but I'm very proud of what we got to do with this show, shooting our little action...

There’s no more Blood & Treasure, just blood. The action-adventure Paramount+ series has gotten the axe and will not return for a Season 3, according to TVLine. The news of Blood & Treasure‘s cancelation comes over four months after the Season 2 finale on the streamer, which picked it up from CBS once the network dropped the show after the first season. Created by Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia and starring Matt Barr and Sofia Pernas, Blood & Treasure debuted on CBS in May 2019, with a second season greenlit midway through its initial run. Although it maintained solid ratings, the pandemic slowed down production for its follow-up season, which didn’t wrap until mid-December 2020. On the third anniversary of its series premiere, a release date for the second season was announced. The globe-trotting action-adventure drama follows a brilliant antiquities expert and a cunning art thief who team up to catch...

Jared Padalecki has headlined Walker on The CW for three seasons, and the star wants to appear in its 1800s-set spinoff Walker: Independence.
“It’s totally something we’ve talked about and thought about since Day 1 of the conception of Walker Independence,” Padalecki said in an interview with TV Line.
Yes, there's over a 150-year gap between the timelines of both series, but there are some options on the table to get the ball rolling on such a move.
“And whether it’s a flashback on Walker or a flash-forward on Walker Independence, or whether they can dress me up enough to let me exist in Independence, just not as Cordell Walker, I see a bunch of fun ways to kind of integrate the two, and keep that Walker-verse thriving and throw in Easter eggs,” Padalecki told the outlet.

Walker star and executive producer Jared Padalecki isn’t planning on letting something as significant as 150-plus years stand in the way of his appearing on the prequel spinoff Walker Independence, on which he also serves as an EP.

Even though the two shows feature very different and distant time periods, Padalecki isn’t ruling out the idea of a crossover of some sort. The Texas town of Independence may just be starting out, but this new 1800s-set Walker prequel, Walker Independence, already has its own Butch and Sundance in bad-boy thief Hoyt Rawlins (Matt Barr) and stoic Apache scout Calian (Justin Johnson Cortez). “They actually make a pretty damn good team,” notes Barr of the unlikely and often at-odds duo who have been helping widowed Abby Walker (Katherine McNamara) catch her husband’s killer. They prove it again in the latest episode, on another Wild West adventure. In the nearby Angel Springs, outlaws keep attacking the whiskey shipments. The residents recruit Hoyt — who had posed as a preacher and swindled the innocent townsfolk out of money in the past — to help. “In order to beat the bandits, they find themselves the best bandit in town,” quips Barr, adding that the charismatic rascal was, ironically, kind of missed. “The stories Hoyt was telling moved these people.

Katherine McNamara is no stranger to worlds far removed from our reality, having starred in sci-fi fantasy series “Arrow” from The CW and Freeform’s “Shadowhunters.” Her role in “Walker: Independence,” the 1870s-set prequel series to The CW’s “Walker” starring Jared Padalecki, is akin to her previous portrayals — in heart and strength — even if she’s trading leather jackets for corset dresses.
“Abby is very much a woman who has agency in a time when a lot of women didn’t,” McNamara told TheWrap in an interview, “and a woman who’s thrust into a situation she wasn’t prepared for and into a world that she knows nothing about and has to find her way and make a family and build something out of a tragedy.”

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the series premiere of Walker Independence.] Abigail Walker has arrived in Walker Independence. The series premiere of the Walker Western prequel debuted Thursday, October 6 on The CW, starring Katherine McNamara (Arrow), Matt Barr, Justin Johnson Cortez, Katie Findlay, Lawrence Kao, Philemon Chambers, and more. The cast had previously told TV Insider that their show was “not your mama’s Western,” and the pilot certainly proved as much. While retaining the aesthetic of a classic Western, The CW’s newest drama features a diverse cast tasked with telling the stories of the diverse people of the American West in the late 1800s. McNamara tells TV Insider that everyone Abby meets in this fledgling town has something they’re running from. And with new details about the murder of her husband unearthed in the series premiere, it seems Abby does too. Here, McNamara ...
