Nicky (Lyndsey Marshal) just wants to sleep. Well, actually at first Nicky just wants to come home after work, bake some cakes, watch some billiards on TV and snuggle with her cat. What Nicky doesn’t want, or love, is her new neighbor Deano (Aston McAuley), who now occupies the house of her late parents, constantly partying with his many mates – and doing it very loudly. At first, this seems like a mere annoyance, which Nicky tries to deal with in a corresponding manner by going out there and talking to Deano. He seems cooperative at first, even if unconvincingly so, but then he isn’t. Soon, Nicky loses her sleep, and potentially her sanity, because of all the loud music and banging at all times...

Producer and actor Sadie Frost has joined Contro Vento Film’s psychological drama “To Love a Narcissist” as an executive producer.
The film is directed by and stars Raffaello Degruttola (“Ted Lasso”). Producer Sadie Kaye and executive producers Bill Bossert and Lyndsey Marshal round out the production team as the film gears up for the international festival circuit.
“To Love A Narcissist” explores the thin line between love and deceit, featuring performances by Lyndsey Marshal (“Rome”), Stephen Campbell Moore (“Masters of the Air”), Sule Rimi (“Classified”) alongside Degruttola. The narrative follows Charlotte and Roberto, whose post-marriage relationship navigates from a dating app encounter to a complex dance of manipulation and vulnerability, ultimately questioning the authenticity of modern relationships.
Raffaello’s first feature length drama was the London-set “Transference: A Bipolar Love Story.” “To Love a Narcissist” will be his second feature length drama produced via Contro Vento Films. The film...

Whether playing Di Kate Fleming in Line of Duty or a back-against-the-wall bomb disposal expert in ITV’s Trigger Point, Vicky McClure has mastered the art of procedurals over the years.
But in Paramount+ series Insomnia from The Crown producer Left Bank, in which she plays a career woman, Emma, who experiences a breakdown when she suddenly stops being able to sleep, the actor-producer bucked the trend.
“I feel like I’ve grown up, I’m 40 now,” McClure told an Insomnia Q&a in London late last month. “There’s a lot of procedural drama that I do and I enjoy it, but I was excited to step into something that felt different.” McClure added that she quite enjoyed walking in heels for the entirety of the series, for example.
McClure’s challenge was made trickier by the fact she has never suffered from insomnia – although “just a bad night...

In the very early days of prestige television, a series appeared (some say it began the prestige era) that gave us a glimpse of what the future would hold. That series was "Rome," the story of the rise and fall of Julius Caesar (Ciarán Hinds) and the romance and death of Mark Antony (James Purefoy) and Cleopatra (Lyndsey Marshal). The series was gorgeous and full of rich historical detail, and the performances were spectacular.
The series, which ran from 2005-2007, came to us from John Milius, William J. MacDonald, and Bruno Heller. It nabbed talented actors like Hinds, Purefoy, Marshal, Lindsay Duncan, Polly Walker, Tobias Menzies, Kevin McKidd, and the late Ray Stevenson. It won a Director's Guild award, seven Primetime Emmy Awards, and quite a number of others.

Thirteen! In incredibly sad news today, actor Ray Stevenson has suddenly passed away at the age of 58. With noteworthy performances in "Thor," "Rrr," and "Vikings," Stevenson may be best known for his breakout role in HBO's swords and sandals epic television series, "Rome." In a time before George R.R. Martin's "Game of Thrones" took to the skies to become the network's flagship series, "Rome" was one of the most ambitious shows on primetime when it premiered back in 2005.
Lasting just two seasons, "Rome" centered around the relationship between two Roman soldiers in the 13th legion of Julius Caesar's army: the steadfast Lucius Vorenus played by Kevin McKidd and the brash, unpredictable Titus Pullo played by Stevenson. Due to its enormous cost, "Rome" came to an abrupt end, but not before amassing a core group of dedicated fans who fell in love with Stevenson's roguish performance as Pullo. Arguably,...

“Queen Cleopatra,” Netflix’s four-part documentary on perhaps the most famous Queen of Egypt, has been very poorly reviewed.
On Rotten Tomatoes it currently has a tomatometer score of 10%, meaning official reviews have been terrible. But it also has a 2% audience score, meaning that the overwhelming majority of non-professional users who bothered reviewing the show themselves hated it too.
But no doubt you’ve seen by now how the show’s star and creators have had to push back against much of the reaction to the show, and the star herself has been harassed. So what’s going on?
It’s complex, but in short, while yes, there are sincere critiques of the show’s historical inaccuracies and the production itself, there is also a separate backlash that is unmistakably racist. Let’s dive in.

We’ve given each of these series an “accuracy rating” to indicate how near or far they are to reality, but these should be taken with a bit of a pinch of salt, as a general guideline only. Real life ancient history’s relationship to TV and film versions of it is pretty much the same as the relationship between George Rr Martin’s Fire and Blood and the TV adaptation House of the Dragon. Fire and Blood is a pretend history, and it provides several different versions of events from different sources, with little to no indication which one is the “truth.

The Series: "Rome"
Where You Can Stream It: HBO Max
The Pitch: Ah, what could and should have been. Back in 2005, which is exactly 1000 years ago in the post-pandemic reckoning, HBO pretty much began the era of very expensive, prestige television with the TV series "Rome." This was before streaming and the rise (and fall) of many services with a whole lot of money to burn. "Rome" was incredibly expensive, but it was so good that fans clamored for more. There were supposed to be five seasons, though we only got the first wonderful one and a second, very rushed (but still good) season. Think of it this way; "Rome" had to walk (and get canceled early) so that "House of the Dragon...

Inside Man is a good pun and a bad story. The four-part black comedy drama is about Jefferson Grieff (Stanley Tucci), a criminologist on death row in Texas who, for reasons unexplained, is allowed to run a rudimentary detective agency while awaiting execution. That makes Grieff an inside man both in the prison sense, and in the criminal-solving-crimes sense. See? Good pun, and a decent premise for say, a CBS procedural in the NCIS/Ghost Whisperer pattern: a case a week to be solved by Tucci’s charismatic lead before his very literal deadline.
Cut-and-shut welded to a different story set in the UK about an Anglican vicar (David Tennant) making decisions so needlessly stupid that you wonder he has the capacity to put his cassock on the right way round, that premise (and pun) unfortunately collapse. Even Inside Man’s strong cast, pacy directing from Sherlock’s Paul McGuigan...

Warning: contains spoilers for the Inside Man finale
Like death row inmate Jefferson Grieff, Inside Man wants more life. That’s the only explanation for its post-credits scene, which added nothing but questions to an already unsatisfying story.
After the credits rolled on the fourth and final episode, lingering viewers saw Grieff (Stanley Tucci) and his companion/human recording device Dillon being led into the interview room of their US prison. There, they met Janice Fife, the British woman whose murder Grieff had averted a week earlier from across the Atlantic using a combination of his criminologist nous and his best guess (“Guessing is how reason proceeds in the absence of fact” is one of his Sherlock-ian slogans).
Janice Fife’s Husband

Ending with a ludicrous freeze-frame straight from an eighties-tastic Us sitcom, this debut feature from director Adam Smith is all over the shop. With little rhyme or reason it veers uncomfortably between gritty family drama, whimsical comedy and full-blown heist thriller. Smith – a frequent collaborator with the Chemical Brothers – never seems to get a complete handle on what he wants the film to be. It’s a shame, as this lack of a clear, concrete vision means powerful moments and committed performances from a cast that includes Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson largely go to waste.
Fassbender is Chad Cutler, a prominent member of a close-knit travelling community currently camped somewhere in the West Country. Their accents are thick as molasses, they call everybody “mush” and afternoons are wiled away by piling into a beat-up station wagon and chasing rabbits through open fields. It’s not all fun and games,...

Family bonds can be hard to break.
At least, this is the dilemma faced by Chad Cutler (Michael Fassbender) in this weekend's new film Trespass Against Us. Chad is trying to juggle his relationship with his corrupt father with being a good father and husband to his wife Kelly (Lyndsey Marshal).
It's nearly impossible to do both as Chad keeps getting pulled into the criminal activity of his larger extended family while still trying to be a good man and set an example for his young children. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September, and opens in a limited release today in select Cineplex theatres.

"I'm just trying to look after my family..." Film4 out of the UK has debuted another official trailer for the generational crime drama Trespass Against Us, about a family of criminals who end up battling against each other. The indie film stars Michael Fassbender as a man trying desperately to escape the dangerous criminal world presided over by his savage father, played by Brendan Gleeson. The cast also includes Rory Kinnear, Sean Harris, Lyndsey Marshal, Killian Scott and Georgie Smith. This also features a score by The Chemical Brothers, some of which can be heard in the trailer. It seems like a solid crime thriller with some intense dramatic scenes and entertaining action, but it's oddly being released very quietly later this month by A24 in the Us (see the Us trailer here), which makes me a bit concerned. Have a look. Here's the new UK trailer (+ UK poster) for...

Michael Fassbender will soon star in the action adventure film “Assassin’s Creed,” based on the video game by the same name, but he’s already appeared in many films this past year, including “The Light Between the Oceans,” “X-Men: Apocalypse” and then “Trespass Against Us,” a family drama that premiered earlier this year. “Trespass Against Us” follows three generations of the Cutler family who live as outlaws in their own corner of Britain’s richest countryside. Fassbender plays Chad, an heir apparent to his father Colby (Brendan Gleeson), but soon starts looking for another life as his own son Tyson (Georgie Smith) comes of age. It co-stars Sean Harris (“Prometheus”), Lyndsey Marshal (“The Hours”), Rory Kinnear (“Quantum of Solace”) and more. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below.

Blood is a brutal bond. A24 has unveiled a trailer for an indie crime drama from England titled Trespass Against Us, which just premiered at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month. The film stars Michael Fassbender as a man trying desperately to escape the dangerous criminal world presided over by his savage father, played by Brendan Gleeson. The cast includes Rory Kinnear, Sean Harris, Lyndsey Marshal, Killian Scott and Georgie Smith. Not only does this look like a solid crime thriller with plenty to offer in terms of action and drama, but it also has an "astonishing" score by The Chemical Brothers to top it off. Gleeson, Fassbender and The Chemical Brothers pretty much has me sold no matter what. The car chases look like they might be the best part, but I'm definitely interested in seeing this anyway. Fire this up. Here's the first trailer (+ poster) for Adam Smith's Trespass Against Us,...

A24 has released the trailer for their upcoming crime thriller film, Trespass Against Us, starring Michael Fassbender, Brendan Gleeson, Lyndsey Marshal, and Killian Scott. The film is directed by Adam Smith from a screenplay written by Alastair Siddons.
Trespass Against Us is set across three generations of the Cutler family who live as outlaws in their own anarchic corner of Britain's richest countryside. Chad Cutler (Michael Fassbender) is heir apparent to his bruising criminal father, Colby (Brendan Gleeson) and has been groomed to spend his life hunting, thieving and tormenting the police. But with his own son, Tyson (Georgie Smith) coming of age, Chad soon finds himself locked in a battle with his father for the future of his young family.
When Colby learns of Chad's dreams for another life he sets out to tie his son and grandson into the archaic order that has bound the Cutler family for generations.

It’s clear within the first few minutes of first-time director Adam Smith’s Trespass Against Us — as a muddy Subaru races after a bounding rabbit in the U.K. countryside, with a young boy at the wheel — that the film to follow will be a disorienting experience. Indeed, it’s one that plunges the audience into thematically murky waters. Crime thriller or offbeat family drama? Darkly funny or way too dreary? Trespass has all of these elements, and ultimately, this thick stew is unsatisfying.
Yet the film, which made its long-delayed world premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, is no complete miss, either. Stars Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson see to that, aided by music-video vet Smith’s often striking visuals and a unique setting. Trespass just never quite gels into a successful whole. Fassbender fans will enjoy his role as a tough but loving family man, but...

Colby Cutler (Brendan Gleeson), a glorious slop of a man who wears his black tracksuit like a business uniform, holds court in the squalid trailer park where he lords over his homegrown brood of hick criminals. He’s telling a story to his young grandson, trying to indoctrinate a new generation of Cutlers into the lifestyle that has come to define the family name. It’s hard to make sense of what he’s saying (American ears will probably only be able to pick up every third word), but the punchline comes through loud and clear: “Hell hath no fury like an angry super-goat.”
You’ll laugh, even if you don’t have the foggiest idea what he’s going on about. It’s par for the course in a movie where much of the dialogue becomes meaningless mulch beneath the thick brogues of the film’s feral British characters.

There has been, over the past few years, a growing trend in British horror for setting movies in abandoned housing estates and tower blocks. Joining the growing ranks is The Forgotten, which sees a father and son forced to squat in an empty London council estate scheduled for demolition, seemingly abandoned by the mother. A dark, creepy and foreboding place, the flat is no place for a family; even less so after 14 year old Tommy starts to hear strange noises coming from the boarded-up flat next door…

Whether its video helmers or stage directors, Sundance has been a reliable launchpad lieu for nouveau British talent — video helmer Fredrik Bond (The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman) and Rupert Goold (True Story) come to mind. Yet another directorial debut on our predictions list, there is reason to believe that this shot in 2014 crime drama might drop in early 2016. With a background in television (episodes of “Skins” and “Doctor Who”) prior to working on his directorial debut, Adam Smith directed the heavily sensorial and pulsating concert vid Don’t Think. Starring Michael Fassbender and festival fave Brendan Gleeson with a noteworthy trio of supporting players in Sean Harris (a must see in Yann Demange’s ’71), Lyndsey Marshal and Rory Kinnear, Trespass Against Us also employs the service of cinematographer Eduard Grau (Buried/Suffragette) and naturally an original score from The Chemical Brothers.

T.H. White’s Arthurian fantasy classic will air as a six-part radio drama on BBC R4 this November…
Following on from its Dangerous Visions sci-fi season, and before this December’s Good Omens adaptation, the BBC Radio 4 drama department is serving up yet more glorious geek fare in the form of a six-part dramatisation of T.H White’s The Once And Future King.
White’s tetralogy of books, largely written in the early Second World War though first published collectively in 1958, tells the legend of Arthur’s apprenticeship to wizard Merlyn as a young boy, the inception of the Round Table at Camelot and King Arthur’s struggles as ruler, dealings with Morgause and Mordred, and the relationship between Queen Guenever and Sir Lancelot.
As well as wry humour and action romps, a thread of political debate over the philosophy that “might is right” runs throughout White’s book,...

Brendan Gleeson (The Guard), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Lyndsey Marshal (The Hours), Sean Harris (Prometheus) and Killian Scott (Calvary) will join him in Doctor Who director Adam Smith's feature debut, reports Screen Daily.
The film explores the lives of three generations of the outlaw Cutler family living on the fringes of Irish society.
Their crimes finally catch up with Chad (Fassbender), who finds himself caught between the law, the desires of his father (Gleeson) and the best interests of his children.
The Chemical Brothers will score Trespass Against Us.
Fassbender recently wrapped Macbeth and is shooting Slow West. His other upcoming projects include Prometheus 2, Assassin's Creed and Derek Cianfrance's The Light Between Oceans.

As one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood right now, Michael Fassbender definitely has his pick of projects. From big blockbusters and franchises to more character-driven work, he continues to surprise us with where he shows up. With films like Prometheus 2, Assassin’s Creed and Derek Cianfrance’s The Light Between Oceans all on his slate, the actor is hoping to continue to keep busy and for his next outing, will shoot a heist thriller titled Trespass Against Us.
Set to begin production this summer, the Adam Smith-directed film co-stars Brendan Gleeson, Rory Kinnear, Sean Harris, Killian Scott and Lyndsey Marshal and will tell the story of the Cutler family, “who live as outlaws, hunting hares, ram-raiding stately homes and taunting the police. Late last year, we brought word that Michael Fassbender was adding another film to his hectic schedule, considering the lead in Adam Smith’s gangster drama Trespass Against Us. He’s officially on board, and will be joined by Brendan Gleeson, Rory Kinnear, Sean Harris, Lyndsey Marshal and Killian Scott.Trespass, which Smith is directing from Alastair Siddons’ script, follows the stories of three generations of the criminal Cutler family, who live as outlaws. Their world includes illegal hunting, ram-raiding stately homes and making fun of police efforts to hunt them down. But when eldest son Chad (Fassbender) is finally nabbed by the law, he’s torn between the guiding anarchy of his father (Gleeson) and what he thinks could be best for his own kids in the long run. Cue a battle of opinions that threatens to tear the family apart. With a cast like this, Trespass Against Us certainly has a tempting setup,...

Michael Fassbender is an actor in an ideal position right now. He’s got the pick of the litter in terms of scripts and projects, and they are all being delivered to his doorstep. Is he an A-list star that can open a movie big? Not yet, but that likely doesn’t concern him right now (that’s his agent’s problem). What matters to the actor is that he’s working with the Terrence Malicks and Ridley Scotts of the world and he is one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood at the moment. And so while he can star in whatever big power project he wants, instead Fassbender’s next film will be a heist thriller film set in Ireland with a largely U.K. cast—an illustration that while he will join franchises like “X-Men” and “Prometheus,” he’s always going to mix that up with character-driven work.
