Exclusive: Sidekick no more. CBS is going for a fresh take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic mystery franchise with Watson, from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and CBS Studios. The medical drama with detective elements, in development at the broadcast network, is written by Craig Sweeny, who spent five years on CBS’ Sherlock Holmes/Dr. Watson procedural Elementary, most of them as executive producer.
In Watson, a year after the death of his friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty, Dr. John Watson resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders. Watson’s old life isn’t done with him, though — Moriarty and Watson are set to write their own chapter of a story that has fascinated audiences for more than a century. All in all, this was a heartwarming wrapup that captured the spirit of this long-running series.
We got to find out what happened in the wake of Sherlock's faked death on Elementary Season 7 Episode 13.
The first thing that happened was that the Odin Reichenbach storyline got wrapped up in the initial five minutes.
After being behind Odin for most of the season, Sherlock jumped ahead by framing him for Sherlock's murder on Elementary Season 7 Episode 12.
Not that Odin has ever charged for that crime. But investigations after his arrest led to all his dirty secrets coming out and him getting a life sentence. So it was the same net effect.
That left much of the hour for a finale that featured quiet moments among the characters as well as a lighthearted mystery.
The script by executive producer Robert Doherty made a smart move of jumping ahead three years.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details about the series finale of Elementary.
The time has come. We need to say goodbye to Jonny Lee Miller’s Sherlock and Lucy Liu’s Joan after seven seasons of Elementary. The Robert Doherty-created CBS series took its final bow on Thursday night with an episode appropriately titled “Their Last Bow.”
In the last episode, we saw Sherlock fake his own death in order to topple Odin Reichenbach and tonight, we time jumped three years after all these events. Sherlock and Joan are back together again after she used the secret signal to alert him that Moriarty is after them.
They have one of those weird reunions where things haven’t changed too much, but the circumstances make it a tad bit awkward. Sherlock is happy with the work he’s doing around the world while Joan is raising her new adopted son and living her own life.

2019 may just be the year of Lucy Liu.
The actress-turned-director-and-producer will wrap up her seven-season run as Dr. Joan Watson on CBS crime drama “Elementary” and then star in new streaming series, “Why Women Kill,” which she will also direct. She also inked a development deal with ABC Studios Intl. for “Unsung Heroes,” an anthology series that centers on the untold story of a woman who was a pioneer in her time. And, on May 1, all these achievements (and more) will be celebrated with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

CBS’ “Elementary” will come to an end with its upcoming seventh season, an individual with knowledge of the decision tells TheWrap.
No premiere date has been set for the Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu-led drama’s final batch of episodes, though an insider tells us the modern-day take on Sherlock Holmes and Watson is coming to a predetermined and natural conclusion with those final installments. All 13 episodes for the season have already been filmed.
Since its debut in 2012, “Elementary” has been shuffled around the CBS schedule and most recently aired its sixth season over the summer, wrapping up with a 0.5 rating among adults 18-49 and just over 3 million total viewers, though it aired its finale against the Primetime Emmys.

CBS’ modern Sherlock Holmes series Elementary will see a seventh season. Like with another just renewed veteran drama that had been on the bubble, Criminal Minds, CBS the network would not say whether it would be the series’ final season. There is no word yet on the fate of medical drama Code Black.
Elementary has not been a strong linear performer the last couple of seasons but it remains a major profit generator for CBS with lucrative off-network and international deals.
Last season, Elementary averaged so-so 7.4 million viewers, 1.2 in 18-49 Live+7 in the Sunday 10 Pm time slot. Elementary has off-network and Svod deals with Wgn America, Hulu Plus and broadcast stations that fetch in as much as $3 million total per episode. Creating another version of the beloved crime-solving duo, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, is no small task. Rob Doherty, executive producer and showrunner of CBS’ Elementary, felt the weight of such an assignment in 2012, when he put a modern twist on the pair, making Watson -- primarily a male character -- a woman, Joan, played brilliantly by Lucy Liu. Early on, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) -- a recovering addict -- and Joan’s relationship was on unequal footing, the latter hired to be a sober companion. That would change midway through the first season.

Elementary is back in fine fettle in emotionally satisfying, tantalising season four opener, The Past Is Parent…
This review contains spoilers.
4.1 The Past Is Parent
There’s a certain joy to be had from a season four premiere. It’s far enough along a show’s lifespan that it feels like welcoming back an old friend, but not so far along that it feels like the old friend in question has hung around too long after a party, drunk the house dry, bored everyone with the nth repetition of its one good anecdote, and forced you to fake a please-leave-now yawn so loud you’ve woken the kids up.
Pleasant though it was to go back to the Brownstone, The Past Is Parent had a great deal more to offer than the comfort of familiarity. It was comfortably the show's best episode since The One That Got Away,...

And revealed that it's going to focus on the preface that Sherlock is mostly responsible for his addiction problem as apposed to Oscar. We'll also see Joan try to support him, and more. Rob started things off by explaining that season 4 will revolve around the fact that Sherlock is more to blame for his addiction issues than Oscar is, stating: "As we get into Season 4, I don’t know that it’s a matter of giving Oscar all of the credit. At the end of the day, the hard, ugly truth is that Sherlock is an addict. Oscar is an addict. They couldn’t be more different in virtually every other respect, but that’s something they share. Although Kitty didn’t kill her tormentor Del Gruner (guest star Stuart Townsend) after capturing him, she did leave him badly scarred. “Do you know what I haven’t said to anyone in a really long time? I love you. Isn’t that the saddest thing?...

3.11 The Illustrious Client
On a second watch (more or less demanded by this week’s cliff-hanger twist) Elementary’s cheekiness in The Illustrious Client was in clear sight. The ‘previously-on’ recap of Sherlock saying “the man who hurt [Kitty] is here in New York” cut straight to Del Gruner showing Watson around her swanky new office. You’d have needed the mind of Sherlock himself to spot the clue though - even if Del did come over a bit iffy - thanks to the monstrous Simon de Merville serving as such a useful red herring.
That was nicely done, as was Gruner’s full name being withheld until the episode’s final moments. Had a surname been provided for Watson’s new boss before then, anyone...
