The history of Hollywood adapting video games in movies and TV shows has been a little spotty, to say the least, but in recent years, I think the tide has been turning. With shows like The Last of Us and Fallout, video game fans have developed a little hope to see their favorite adapted into a great piece of art and while there will still be wasted efforts like Netflix’s The Witcher and Paramount+’s Halo, they are still only two shows. So, in keeping with that spirit of hope we created a list of the 10 best TV shows that were adapted from video games, they can be original stories in the world of video games but they have to be connected to the original IP.

A revival of ’90s hit “Melrose Place” is in the works at CBS Studios, with original stars Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton set to return, TheWrap has learned.
The Darren Star-created night-time soap followed the complicated lives of several 20-somethings who lived in a Los Angeles apartment complex called Melrose Place, where the drama included a bombing, a drowning and a “Dynasty”-esque pool fight.
Locklear played advertising exec Amanda Woodward, whose addition to the show late in the first season helped boost ratings at the time. Zuniga played Jo Reynolds on the series from 1992 to 1999 while Leighton played Sydney Andrews, sister of Josie Bassett’s character Jane.
Lauren Gussis of “Dexter” and “Insatiable” fame is set to write and executive produce the revival, which would see the “Og residents” returning when one of their friends die. Per the logline, the reunion “uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances,...

Made-for-tv movies have developed from their Hallmark stereotype in recent years, thanks to the rise of companies such as HBO. Although these films feature lower budgets and smaller casts than larger productions, they offer directors and actors greater freedom – leading them toward more successful results.

The filmmaker is delighted with the performance of Ken Jeong, who has filmed his role as an American character who holds the key to the mystery of the rainfall.
Sparke was happy to encourage the Crazy Rich Asians and Hangover star to improvise, observing: “We let him loose to ad lib. He brings his unique style to the role, a very dry character. He had the crew in stitches at times.”

The organisers of Monster Fest aim to parlay the brand into a theatrical distribution gateway for Australian and international genre films.
Monster Films has successfully trialed the concept with Mandy, Panos Cosmatos’ neo-noir horror movie which it sub-licensed from Madman Entertainment.
Next year the distributor will release Luke Sparke’s Occupation: Rainfall, a sci-fi thriller which stars Crazy Rich Asians’ Ken Jeong, Temuera Morrison, Dan Ewing, Stephany Jacobsen, Aaron Jeffery and Zac Garred.
Monster’s Grant Hardie developed a relationship with Sparke after staging sold-out special event screenings for Occupation.
“We want to turn the Monster Fest brand into a legitimate theatrical pathway with a cinema network consisting of as many locations as we can secure to build audiences,” Hardie tells If. “Genre films are under-represented in cinemas.”
While he has no titles lined up to release apart from the Occupation sequel, he is open to talking to producers.

"We fight or we die."
Saban Films has released a couple of new trailers for the sci-fi alien invasion thriller Occupation. The story centers on a small group of people from a small town who band together to fight off an alien invasion and try to survive. Here's the synopsis:
After their small Australian country town is annihilated by an overwhelming airborne attack, a group of local civilians evade capture and discover they are now among the last remaining survivors of an extraterrestrial invasion engulfing the entire planet. As humanity falls under world-wide occupation, they form a home-grown army to fight back against vastly superior enemy forces. On the frontlines of the battle for Earth, they are our last hope.
Occupation obviously doesn't look like the best sci-fi film, but I know there's an audience out there that enjoys watching movies like this. This one looks like it could have some fun moments.

"We fight, or we die." Saban Films has released a brand new official Us trailer for the Australian sci-fi alien invasion thriller titled Occupation, from writer/director Luke Sparke. We posted the international trailer for this a few weeks ago and this looks even worse. The film is about a small group of town residents who have to band together after a devastating ground invasion from alien invaders. As they struggle to survive, they realize they must stay one step ahead of their attackers, and work together for a chance to strike back. The big Aussie cast includes Temuera Morrison, Stephany Jacobsen, Dan Ewing, Rhiannon Fish, Zachary Garred, Izzy Stevens, Charles Terrier, Charles Mesure, Felix Williamson, Jacqueline McKenzie, and Bruce Spence. This seems like another awful Red Dawn remake of sorts, and this trailer doesn't even show the aliens like the other trailer. Probably because they know they look bad?...

Late last year, we had our first look at Occupation, an alien invasion thriller coming from Film Mode Entertainment which was screening at the American Film Market.
The movie, co-written and directed by Luke Sparke, tackles the familiar invasion trope by setting it in Australia and peppering it with some impressive special effects from the team behind The Hobbit and The Matrix movies. The result is a movie which is far better looking than your average low-budget invasion flick.

Now, thanks to TV Line, we may have a face to go with this mystery woman as Tony will partner up with a new character, named Leia Pendergrast, played by beautiful actress, Stephanie Jacobsen (left). Leia is set to make her first arrival in one of the October 2014 episodes, so they're not wasting any time, getting her in the mix. Leia is described as being an "FBI Special Agent who is partnered with Tony (played by Michael Weatherly) to investigate a terrorist threat. She's “sexy and single… flirtatious and adventurous with a sense of humor.” She's not officially described as being Tony's new girlfriend, but it's definitely believed she will be. Also, is Emily losing her mind?
Everyone took deception to the next level on the Jan. 19 episode of Revenge: Emily (Emily VanCamp) and Daniel (Joshua Bowman) went all War of the Roses on us, Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) revealed a dark secret to Patrick (Justin Hartley), and more shocking truths were uncovered!
This Means War
Let’s face it: Emily and Daniel’s marriage has tanked. Even before the shooting and the fake pregnancy revelation, Daniel wanted out. He’s apparently in love with Sarah (Annabelle Stephenson) and was fully prepared to use her as bait in his battle against Emily.
One of the first things to brighten Emily’s morning — you know, after ripping her stitches open — was the sight of Daniel and Sarah in bed together. He was a total tool to Emily in front of Sarah, but the look on Emily’s face said he was toast.

Emily’s luck just got a whole lot worse.
First, Daniel (Joshua Bowman) shot Emily (Emily VanCamp) and ruined her entire revenge plan; then, Emily lost and regained her memories all in one day; and on the Jan. 12 episode of Revenge, Emily had to do battle with the Graysons in the worst place ever — the Grayson Manor!
At the beginning of the episode, Emily was still stuck at the hospital and feeling down, but a little visit from Nolan (Gabriel Mann) in a candy striper outfit put a smile on her face. You guys, Nolan’s just the best. He tried to find out when Emily would be fighting back against the Graysons, but unfortunately, Emily was not having it. She didn’t want to take part in anymore revenge; she just wanted out of the Hamptons, which is understandable — but Emily didn’t stay that way for long!

Revenge picked up in "Homecoming" right where they left off in the winter finale: Emily has disappeared after being shot on the night of her wedding, by her husband Daniel.
Aiden (Barry Sloane) and Jack (Nick Wechsler) rush to try to find Emily (Emily VanCamp) after discovering her wedding dress washed up on the shore. Aiden focuses on trying to track Emily using the garter tracker she was wearing, while Jack feels increasingly guilty about forcing Emily to move up her revenge time table, which could have led to bad planning and Emily’s current injury. Aiden sends Jack to update Nolan and continues to search for Emily on his own.
Aiden Rescues Emily
Emily, injured, but alive, tried to get to a buoy where she had stashed a box away in case of emergencies, but she is too weak to grab it and ends up being picked up by a fisherman’s boat.

Let’s face it, Emily Thorne has seen better days.
The last time we saw Emily (Emily VanCamp), she and her revenge plan went overboard. On the Jan. 5 episode of Revenge, we picked up right where the midseason finale left off and Emily has her hands full — even if her mind appeared to be empty.
S.O.S. Emily Thorne
Emily was completely blindsided when her new husband Daniel (Joshua Bowman) pulled the trigger on the gun pointed at her. The injured bride fell off the boat and Jack (Nick Wechsler) and Aiden (Barry Sloane) found her wedding dress floating ashore. So, what happened to Emily?!
It turns out she resurfaced at a nearby buoy where she had placed an emergency case, but due to her injuries, she couldn’t muster the energy to reach it. She pressed the tracker placed on her garter, alerting Aiden to her whereabouts.

Tyler Perry’s best comedy in years. Only the joke’s on him, because this isn’t a comedy.
Tyler Perry has two large shadows looming over him in his first major role in a film made outside his production company. The first shadow unquestionably belongs to actor Morgan Freeman who first brought James Patterson’s fictional detective Alex Cross to the silver screen in Kiss The Girls over fifteen years ago. Freeman was able to bring warmth and great intelligence to what was also his first lead role in a large scale Hollywood production, one he would reprise in Along Came a Spider. His performance not only brought in new readers for Patterson’s Alex Cross series, but fans began to associate the character with him.
The second shadow belongs to Perry himself, in the form of his alter ego, that money making juggernaut Mabel Simmons, aka “Madea”. After...

Three Inches, the Syfy pilot with James Marsters and Stephanie Jacobsen that didn't get ordered to series, airs tonight at 9 pm Et on Syfy.
To recap, the network ordered the 90-minute pilot back in the spring of 2010. It was filmed in September in Toronto and, in December, Syfy decided to pick up Alphas instead, and to tweak Three Inches into a half-hour because the two were conceptually similar.
Six months went by with no news, and then in July word came from James' Fb page that Syfy would not be giving Three Inches a full season, but that the pilot would air eventually. Well, that's tonight.
Here is the synopsis, from ScienceFiction.com:
In Three Inches, professional daydreamer and underachiever, Walter Spackman (Noah Reid) is struck by lightning, and develops a unique “super” power — the ability to move any object using just his mind… but only a distance of three inches.

James Marsters (Buffy, Caprica), Stephanie Jacobsen (Melrose Place, Battlestar Galactica: Razor) and Naoko Mori (Torchwood) fans, hang in there! Syfy is still keeping Three Inches in mind for a series pickup. The series had initially lost out to Alphas for a place in the fall line-up, but network president Mark Stern states that they have not thrown Three Inches out of the window:
“We’re looking at another way to get Three Inches going. We love it, so we’re trying to figure out a way to do both [that and Alphas] right now.”
As SciFi Mafia reported to you last December, one of the options the network was looking at for Three Inches was to reformat it from a one-hour format into a half-hour structure. Hopefully, they can make this work!
Three Inches’ sci-fi star-studded cast includes James Marsters (Dragonball 2, Caprica, Smallville), Andrea Martin (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Not for Nothing), Stephanie Jacobsen (Melrose Place,...

While SyFy is still considering how to develop Three Inches, one option the network is looking at is to shorten the series to become a half-hour long drama instead of an hour-long show. In a recent decision by SyFy, Alphas was the superhero-series that came out on top between the two pilots to develop. SyFy’s VP of Original Programming Mark Stern assured all that Three Inches is not being dropped:
“We found ourselves with two pilots that we loved. They were both excellent and tested very well. Ultimately it came down to which pilot would work best as an hour-long franchise.
We loved the cast and the directing, and the writing was fantastic, but it’s very similar to Alphas. Now we have to figure out a way so both shows can live on our air.”
