While the Marvel side of things struggles to hold on to a strong footing, Disney can go back to developing other franchises in the superhero genre. One of the films that the studio can revive as a major franchise would be the 2005 film, Sky High. It was directed by Kung Fu Panda 4 director Mike Mitchell and starred Michael Angarano and The Flash star Danielle Panabaker in the lead roles.

Mitchell revealed that Disney had plans to develop a sequel film and a spin-off series in the Sky High universe earlier. He even fleshed out concepts for a sequel and shared that he was still interested in working on the project.

A24 picks up the new film from Ruben Ostlund, the director of Triangle Of Sadness – and Kirsten Dunst and Keanu Reeves lead the cast.
We’d imagine that one of the most coveted projects to go to market at Cannes this week is Ruben Östlund’s follow-up to the critically celebrated 202 film, Triangle Of Sadness. It’s called The Entertainment System Is Down, it boasts a glorious premise, an admired director and a leading trio of Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl and Keanu Reeves. Oh, and let’s not forget the giant plane that the production bought before it even found a studio backer.
Whilst studio backing of some sort was never really in doubt given the star power that Östlund has attached to the project, Östlund will likely be particularly happy to have A24 as a partner for the US rights, given that this looks to be one of the...

A24 acquired the U.S. rights to Ruben Östlund’s The Entertainment System Is Down this weekend.
The eight-figure deal gives A24 U.S. distribution rights to what will be the Swedish film director’s second English-language movie, after 2022’s Triangle of Sadness. The latter won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022, which marked Östlund’s second time taking home the prize after 2017’s The Square.
Like his last movie, The Entertainment System Is Down is also a social satire, this time set on a long-haul flight in which the entertainment system fails and passengers must figure out how else to fill their time. Östlund and his producer, Erik Hemmendorff, purchased a real Boeing 747 for the film.
The movie’s cast includes Keanu Reeves, Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl, Nicholas Braun and Samantha Morton, with Dunst and Brühl set to play a married couple.

Simmons hosted the Jan. 31, 2015 episode of Saturday Night Live, which featured D’Angelo as the musical guest. At the time, Simmons was riding high off an Oscar nomination for Whiplash, and he would go on to win the Academy Award following his SNL hosting stint.
Meanwhile, Berle hosted SNL on April 14, 1979, and Ornette Coleman was his musical guest. It’s unclear where Berle fits into Reitman’s movie at this moment in time.

The 2007 John C. Reilly comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story has become a cult hit in recent years, largely as a result of the skill with which it dissects and eviscerates the genre it satirizes.
The film so deftly laid bare the tropes and cliches of the rock star biopic that many predicted it would forever change the way filmmakers approached stories about dead celebs.
And for a while, it seemed like the trick had worked.
Leaving aside for a moment any discussion about the quality of these films, there's no denying that Elvis, Blonde, Maestro, Jackie, Priscilla, and Oppenheimer all offered new takes on a very familiar subgenre.
(That last one, admittedly, is a bit of an outlier, as we're not sure if a theoretical physicist -- even one who altered the course of world history -- can properly be called a celebrity.)
But in recent years, the...

One Of Succession's Greatest Monsters Is Playing The Beloved Creator Of The Muppets In The SNL Movie
Jim Henson was a creative force of nature whose singular creative achievement continues to enchant adults and children alike 34 years after his tragically untimely death. Indeed, whether they're teaching us to count or goofing around with flesh-and-blood movie stars, we need the Muppets now more than ever. They're felt, furry joy machines that reflect their creator's humanistic vision of the world.
So if you find yourself tasked with portraying Henson in a film about the mid-1970s creation of "Saturday Night Live," you might want to cast an actor whose previous characters have embodied these noble qualities. If so, you might not immediately think of Nicholas Braun.
Best known for his portrayal of the clumsily conniving Cousin Greg on Jesse Armstrong's scathingly funny corporate media satire "Succession," Braun's characters tend to make our skin crawl. Okay, he was adorable as Zack Attack in "Sky High," but that was...

“The Crown” is gearing up for its last hurrah at the SAG Awards, an organization that has bestowed a number of prizes onto the Netflix regal show over the years. It claimed the highly coveted TV drama ensemble prize twice (2019 and ’20), while individual winners through the years were Claire Foy (2016 and ’17), John Lithgow (2016) and Gillian Anderson (2020). Now the sixth and final season is hoping to prevail for a third time, which would tie it with “Downton Abbey” in this category at three total wins.
Season 6 faces off in the TV drama ensemble race against fellow nominees “The Gilded Age,” “The Last of Us,” “The Morning Show” and “Succession.” Elizabeth Debicki is “The Crown’s” only solo acting nominee this year, with her co-nominees in the TV drama actress category being Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”), Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us”), Keri Russell (“The Diplomat”) and Sarah Snook (“Succession”).

Filmmaker Kevin Smith is best known for his work in the comedy genre. His movies often center on comic book and Star Wars-loving guys, and tend to be packed with stoner humor and vulgar but amusing conversations about sex. But once he was more than a decade and several movies into his movie career, he decided to switch things up, making a horror film that was inspired by disturbing headlines and is packed with death, damnation – and some damn fine acting. Released in 2011, Kevin Smith’s first horror movie was called Red State (watch it Here), and if you haven’t seen it, it’s the best horror movie you never saw.

Twenty-four hours after a big night at the Emmys, which included a win for best drama series, the cast of Succession reunited for a rare Q&a discussion in Los Angeles.
Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun, J. Smith Cameron, Alan Ruck, creator Jesse Armstrong and director Mark Mylod took part in the conversation on the Paramount lot, with Seth Meyers serving as moderator and joking that Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook and Alexander Skarsgård were not in attendance as they “are in production in a spin-off of Succession that nobody else here is in.”
Early on in the chat, Cox recalled Armstrong telling him that his character Logan Roy would die midway through the fourth and final season, teasing, “I was given the ultimate short shrift. ‘Get the fuck off the set. We don’t want to see you anymore, we’ve had enough of you, you’ve...

Brian Cox says Succession creator Jesse Armstrong was a “gentleman” to salute him during his acceptance speech at Sunday night’s Emmy Awards.
The celebrated HBO drama won the top drama prize, and Armstrong praised the show’s cast, creatives and crew then lauded Cox, “who the show was revolved around whether he was in it or not.”
Later at the HBO | Max Emmy afterparty at San Vicente Bungalows, Cox tells me he was “touched” by Armstrong singling him out. “Jesse’s a gentleman in an industry where there aren’t many of those,” he says.
Cox adds that the entire team deserved the praise. ”All of them. The drama series win belongs to each and every one of them.”
The acclaimed actor says he knew Succession would become a “cultural landmark” from the time he read Armstrong’s first script. “I was in no doubt that it would become a benchmark.

The National Active Members of the Television Academy voted on the awards from August 18 to August 28, 2023.
Succession walked away with seven wins for its final season, including Best Drama and recognition for actors Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen. The show also received awards for Best Directing for a Drama Series for Mark Mylod and Best Writing for a Drama Series for Jesse Armstrong.

Matthew Macfadyen held out as long as he could before asking the big Succession question.
Who would succeed Logan Roy?
The answer — as viewers of the beloved Emmy-winning HBO series now know — was pointed right at him.
“Shiv, you should probably know: it’s me,” spoke Macfadyen in the series finale when revealing the show’s final and ultimate blindside that his Tom Wambsgans — husband to Siobhan “Shiv” Roy (Sarah Snook), would be the new CEO of Waystar Royco, the media company run by Brian Cox’s Logan Roy.
After winning the 2023 Emmy for best supporting actor in a drama, Macfadyen revealed backstage that he waited until they were filming the fifth episode — which is two episodes after creator Jesse Armstrong delivered his first big shocker with Logan Roy’s death — before asking their boss who would succeed the Succession throne.
“Jesse said to us at the beginning, gave us...

‘Succession’ wins for Outstanding Drama Series at the 75Th Emmy Awards (Photo © 2024 Fox Media LLC)
In a normal year, the 2023 Emmy Awards would have actually taken place in 2023. But last year was anything but normal in Hollywood, and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused the award ceremony’s postponement to January 15, 2024.
Fans of Succession, The Bear, and Beef had a lot to celebrate as Emmy voters threw most of the awards in their direction. Succession and The Bear tied with six wins each, and Beef wasn’t far behind with five.
Highlights included Christina Applegate’s surprise appearance on stage to a standing ovation, Carol Burnett presenting to Quinta Brunson (the first Black actress to win as Lead Actress in a Comedy since 1981), and Niecy Nash-Betts’ powerful acceptance speech for Dahmer. There were also cast reunions and Sir Elton John finally received the E portion of Egot for his Farewell From Dodger Stadium special.

Way back in (checks notes) July last year, we reported on the Emmy nominations, noting that the strikes could delay it. Welp, delay it they did, and the 2023 ceremony has just happened in Los Angeles on Monday night. The ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, had little reference to the strikes, but did dig back into TV history given that it was the 75th ceremony. Recent history, though, was more on voters' minds as Beef, Succession and The Bear continued their small screen awards domination.
Succession and The Bear nabbed six trophies each across acting, directing and writing categories, while Beef took home five. Other winners included Jennifer Coolidge (for The White Lotus) and Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story's Niecy Nash-Betts.
Here are the main winners…
Outstanding Drama Series
Andor
Better Call Saul
The Crown
House Of The Dragon
The Last Of Us
Succession – Winner
