In 2005, Paul McCartney co-authored a children’s book, High in the Clouds, about two competing ways of life, Animalia and Megatropolis, featuring a squirrel and frog as protagonists. Predictably, the animal heroes are headed to the big screen, with a film version of High in the Clouds in development for the last couple years, with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 director Cody Cameron set to direct. But, as this is a McCartney passion project, the Beatles’ great is working on songs for the movie, with Deadline reporting that McCartney has seven or eight new songs set for the film, and will even voice one of the characters, according to Rolling Stone... Cloudy directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn spill the meatballs on Flint's next animated adventure - getting served up on Sky Movies now. Picking up where Cloudy left off, Flint is invited by his idol Chester V (Will Forte) to join a group of elite inventors at The Live Corp Company. But his past catches up on him in the form of a mutant man-eating cheeseburger, so he must reunite with his buddies to uncover the mystery behind the fast food monsters.

Everything is still awesome. Even after three weeks of release, Warner Bros. The Lego Movie continues to dominate the counted beans of the movie world. This weekend, the masterfully built CG-animated adventure tale not only had to endure the eruption of Pompeii, it also had to deal with a very motivated action film from Kevin Costner in 3 Days to Kill. Neither were up to the task, leading The Lego Movie to once again reign supreme, building its domestic box office receipts to $183 million in three weeks. And you know what that means: sequel! In response to the good box office news, Warner Bros. is celebrating by announcing a release date for a Lego Movie sequel. As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “the studio announced that the untitled movie will hit theaters on May 26, 2017, the beginning of the long Memorial Day weekend. Warners is being vague in terms of saying whether the film will be a proper sequel, or...

★★★☆☆ Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013) follows on from the phenomenal success of the surreal 2009 original, which came out of nowhere to challenge animation hotshots Disney Pixar and Dreamworks. Adapted from the beloved children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett of the same name, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs followed inventor Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and quick-witted weathergirl Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) as they attempted to fix the inexorable shower of food created by Flint's 'Diatomic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator'. However, things are about to get tasty.

‘It’s our bus to drive – it’s not our bus…’
It’s a good start to the interview with Messrs. Cameron and Pearn. I suggested that the success of the first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs film, and their long history with the series, should have meant more control over the sequel. This causes a big laugh, but it’s evidence of the camaraderie of the vast team behind the film.
If the pull-quotes slapped on the side of buses are to be believed the rule with sequels is ‘bigger and better’, and in creating Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn had a whole world to explore.

Last week, ComingSoon.net visited Sony Pictures Animation to hear from some of the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 team, whose pun-heavy, family-friendly animated sequel has a January 28th DVD and Blu-ray release. Cody Cameron, one of the film.s directors, and the voice of Pinocchio and Three Little Pigs from much of the "Shrek" franchise, introduced four deleted scenes that will be included as bonus features on the Blu-ray. Kristen Schaal's spirited orangutan with a human brain character, Barb, is prominently featured in two of the deleted scenes. Will Forte's pretentious, bearded character, Chester V, introduces himself with "Namaste" in the scene that Cameron was vocally most excited about, as it features a favorite joke of his from Andy Samberg's dopey,...

There’s more fun with food in the PG animated movie Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.
Bill Hader (Turbo) and Anna Faris (What’s Your Number?) return to voice inventor Flint Lockwood and intrepid reporter Sam Sparks, respectively.
This time around, Lockwood discovers that he didn’t actually destroy his machine in the original film. Instead, his invention is now creating animal-food hybrids, “foodimals!” Lockwood and his friends have to embark on a new adventure to save the world again, but this time from hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses, cheesepiders and other foodimals.
The $115 million-grossing sequel got high praise from critics, 71% approval, according to Rotten Tomatoes. As Entertainment Weekly‘s Keith Staskiewicz wrote: “The animation is inventive and elastic, the dialogue zippy and shamelessly punny, and the tone lighthearted and fun,...

The Selfish Giant (15)
(Clio Barnard, 2013, UK) Conner Chapman, Shaun Thomas, Sean Gilder. 91 mins
In the tradition of Kes, or Fish Tank, this offers a child's-eye view of poverty that's too strong for real-life kids of the same age. Despite the fairytale origins, miracles are in short supply in this Bradford suburb, where two drop-out mates scavenge for opportunities. But the balance between harsh realism and mythical lyricism is beautifully struck, and the two leads really are miraculous.
Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (15)

Old-suited Knoxville and his "grandson" take to the road for Borat-style pranks.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs has to be one of my favourite animations from the last 5 years and when there was an announcement of a sequel, it made me very happy! What made me even more happy was when I got to chat with Directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn about their new movie, how it’s changed and what we can expect from this second installment.
They describe the first movie as more of an ‘disaster movie’ where as this film takes on a lot more from the ‘monster movie’ harking back to the likes of Jurassic Park and King Kong. We get to hear how they came up with the designs of the new creatures and my personal highlight was talking more in depth about the character of ‘Steve’ played by Neil Patrick Harris in both the first and second movie and how his interaction on screen...

Released in 2011, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was an unmitigated success for Sony Pictures Animation. It’s hardly a surprise then that a little over two years later, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 is upon us. With new directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn taking over the reins from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the sequel is as appealing and visually imaginative as its predecessor. Sadly, the same can’t be said for an unfocused narrative that’s not quite as clever as it thinks it is.
With Swallow Falls in a state of disrepair following the disastrous food storm caused by an out-of-control invention, Flint (Bill Hader), Sam (Anna Faris) and his friends and forced to leave their hometown for San Franjose, California. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs proved to be a very pleasant surprise back in 2009. Its colourful and vivid tale of an inventor conjuring up a machine that turned water into food made for a joyfully trippy animated film that stood out from the crowd. Box office success meant that a sequel was almost inevitable, and it arrives this week with much of the same visually inventive storytelling that made its predecessor a winner.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 is one of those rare sequels that is just as good as, if not better, than the original. And when you’re talking about following up an animated film written and directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, that’s meant to be very high praise indeed. Cloudy 2 will certainly appeal to children, but this is one of those animated films that have tons of jokes thrown in for adults as well. Plus you have Neil Patrick Harris back as single-word blurting monkey Steve, with an expanded vocabulary. What’s not to love? Our own Kate Erbland is obsessed with the movie, and you can read her predictions for favorite Foodimals from the film right here. We sat down with co-directors Kris Pearn and Cody Cameron to talk about the film, and working in modern-day animation amidst computers that seem poised to take over the world. Once...

‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2′ box office: Sequel easily tops North America’s Friday chart By Sunday evening, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 will have provided further evidence that moviegoers are eager for new and original stories, after having been overflooded with sequels, prequels, reboots, and spin-offs. Chicago – I was paying attention to the movie. Correction: I was mostly paying attention to the movie. It was challenging to ignore my angry, empty stomach and fully enjoy the food coma that is “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”.
Just don’t make the same mistake I did and eat first.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
To justify a sequel, a mostly new filmmaking team converted inanimate food that rained from the sky to living, breathing and speaking “foodimals”.
The star of the foodimals? Barry the strawberry, who turns out to be the star of the film. Like his fellow foodimals, Barry is an ambulatory chunk of food spawned from an invention that goes by the mumbled name “Fldsmdfr”. In the sequel, the Fldsmdfr has been popping out food on the island of Swallow Falls since the first film.

The Herculean task of any sequel is repeating the experience of the original film, or improving on it. That's nigh on impossible due to the simple fact that you only get to take the viewing public utterly by surprise once.
The out-of-nowhere novelty and delight of Sony Animation's "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," based on Judi and Ron Barrett's children's book, is missing in "Meatballs 2." The design and color palette is as glorious as ever. But the laughs are few and innovations fewer in this generally winded knock-off.
Inventor Flint Lockwood's cuisine-creating weather machine has come to the attention of his idol, corporate scientist and TV science show host Chester V (Will Forte), who worries that the island of Swallow Falls is too dangerous to live on -- for now. The gadget is producing food animals -- predators, "Taco-diles" and Cheese(burger) Spiders, Su-sheep and Shrimpanzees and Fla-mangoes.

Earlier this week, I got the chance to check out Sony Animation’s follow-up to Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, in order to help you guys determine whether it’s worth your time to take your kids, and more importantly, how much of your sanity parents will retain after seeing it. Come inside to check out my thoughts on the quirky little sequel.
The Basics
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up where Sony Pictures Animation's mouth-watering comedy left off. Inventor Flint Lockwood thought he saved the world when he destroyed his most infamous invention - a machine that turned water into food causing cheeseburger rain and spaghetti tornadoes. But Flint soon learns that his invention survived and is now creating food-animals - 'foodimals!' Flint and his friends embark on a dangerously delicious mission to battle hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses, cheespiders and other foodimals to save the world - again!

Even with new cooks in the kitchen, “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2” is a completely delicious dish, as it adds a handful of great new ingredients to a familiar recipe. Unquestionably the most pun-filled movie of 2013, Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn’s follow-up expands the world of machine-made delicacies in supremely weird and wonderfully silly directions while preserving the charm and chemistry of the characters introduced in the first film. Simultaneously more adventure-filled and less emotionally affecting than its predecessor, “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2” makes a shift from disaster-movie to creature-feature tropes with its buffet.

If Anna Faris wrote the next sequel to Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, the animated world would be taken over by nachos, her favorite food of all-time.
Faris returns to voice the character of Sam Sparks in the follow-up film to Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. In the sequel, Flint Lockwood’s food-making machine has evolved into something worse; it’s transforming food into food-animal hybrids. The hilarious hybrid of food and animals includes Cheesespider, (cheeseburger, turned into a French fry-legged spider), Bananostrich (banana with ostrich legs), Flamangos (flamingo mangoes), tacodile, just to name a few.

The first film was hysterical, and whether the sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will retain that originality, remains to be seen. I'm game, especially with the "There's a leak in the boat scene." Priceless. Starring in the film, along with who they're credited as, are Bill Hader (Flint Lockwood), Anna Faris (Sam Sparks), James Caan (Tim Lockwood), Will Forte (Chester V), Kristen Schaal (Barb), Terry Crews (Earl), Andy Samberg (Brent), Neil Patrick Harris (Steve) and Benjamin Bratt (Manny). Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn direct the film scripted by John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein and Erica Rivinoja, based on the characters created by Judi Barrett and Ron Barrett.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 picks up where Sony Pictures Animation’s mouth-watering comedy left off. Inventor Flint Lockwood thought he saved the world when he destroyed his most infamous invention — a machine that turned water into food causing cheeseburger rain and spaghetti tornadoes. But Flint soon learns that his invention survived and is now creating food-animals – “foodimals!” Flint and his friends embark on a dangerously delicious mission to battle hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses, cheespiders and other foodimals to save the world – again!
The film is based upon characters from the book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs – written by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett.
Stars the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Will Forte, Andy Samberg, Benjamin Bratt, Neil Patrick Harris, Terry Crews and Kristen Schaal. Story by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and Erica Rivinoja.

Sony Pictures Animation has released a new funny clip for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2! The clip features the entertaining introduction of a new character named Barry, the talking strawberry. The first movie was surprisingly hilarious. I love the wackiness of the concept, and the sequel should end up being just as fun.
The sequel was directed by Cody Cameron (story artist on Shrek, Surf’s Up, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and Kris Pearn (head of story on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and stars the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Will Forte, Andy Samberg, and Kristen Schaal. It's set to be released on September 27th, 2013. Enjoy the clip!

Directors Cody Cameron and Chris Pearn, stars Bill Hader, Anna Faris and Terry Crews talk Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 at Comic-Con 2013. The first "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" was a sweet and surprising success, featuring Bill Hader and Anna Faris in the adaptation of the beloved children's book. The fact that there is a sequel in the works should come as no surprise--the question is just whether or not the new directors, Kris Pearn and Cody Cameron, who were story artists on the first one, can live up to their original work. The two of them were joined by their stars at a press conference at this year's Comic-Con, as well as Terry Crews, who has taken over the part of Earl for the sequel, stepping into the very large shoes of Mr. T. "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2" is due in theaters this September.

Whilst plenty have soared at the box office, plenty more animated movies have also had trouble getting off the ground this year, and it will be interesting to see where Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 will land next month – there’s a very good chance it will be riding high, but this has been quite a volatile year for what has and hasn’t been a hit.
It’s been over a month since the latest trailer landed online, and Sony have now released a new TV spot online ahead of the sequel’s release in a few weeks’ time.
When inventor Flint Lockwood discovers that his most infamous machine – the Fldsmdfr – is still operating and is now creating giant mutant food beasts that threaten to destroy civilization, he knows he’s the only one who can stop it. With the fate of humanity in his hands, Flint...

When we left Flint Lockwood and Sam Sparks on the island in Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, they had just saved the town from Flint’s creation and everything seemed like it was going to work out. During our early look at the film last week, held at the Sony Animation Studios in Los Angeles, besides watching footage and hearing from the directors of the project, we also got to sit down for a roundtable interview with three of the actors that put voices to these loveable characters.

When Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs came out, it almost instantly became one of those feel-good animated features that you looked forward to watching – even as an adult. It had something to offer that audiences of all ages could appreciate, and the puns were admittedly one of the best parts.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs came out of nowhere. The marketing wasn’t exactly enticing, selling what appeared to be a fairly average animated adventure. The movie wasn’t that. At all. Phil Lord and Chris Miller made a shockingly nerdy movie. What other animated movie can you think of that has gummy bears and a Twilight Zone referenced packed together? Not many. When Sony announced the sequel, Lord and Miller had their hands busy with 21 Jump Street, making it impossible for them to direct. They ended up tapping the shoulders of Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn, a duo who worked on the first film. Pearn was head of story, while Cameron was one of the senior artists. Although Lord and Miller are still involved with the project as executive producers, it sounds like Cameron and Pearn are staying true to the sensibility they brought to the first film. Here...

Sony and Screen Gems closed out a big day for attendees in Comic-Con 2013's enormous Hall H with a single long panel that focused on four upcoming films: "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2," "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," and "RoboCop."
The panel began with "Cloudy" before getting to the more serious films. Bill Hader (Flint Lockwood), Anna Faris (Sam Sparks), Terry Crews (Earl Devereaux), Kristen Schaal (Barb), Andy Samberg ("Baby" Brent), and Will Forte (Chester V) arrived by way of a film in which they got dressed in their animated characters' costumes. Unfortunately when Crews, Farris and Hader appeared onstage they were dressed in normal clothes.
Directors Cody Cameron and Chris Pearn, who served as writers on the first film, took the lead during the panel. "When the studio got really interested in [the sequel] they called us," Pearn says. "And we were dumb enough to do it.

When "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" was a hit at the box office, it was only a matter of time before a sequel happened. That day has come, as "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" is at Comic-Con to give attendees a taste of what to expect from the animated sequel.
Before that, stars Bill Hader, Anna Faris and Terry Crews, along with directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn are getting together with the press to talk about the movie.
