The latest release from Palehound is one hell of a ride. The album was inspired by the “apocalypse road trip” across the U.S. that the indie Boston band took mid-tour to get safely back home as the pandemic hit in early 2020. The stress and tension of that moment informs the album, even when the song’s aren’t specifically about the pandemic. In a larger sense, the greatest adventure on Eye on the Bat is Palehound’s musical evolution: they’re sharper, punkier, and more fearless — roaring in the face of change.

Wednesday is 80’s night on “The Masked Singer,” and the show is bringing out a 1980s superstar to make it official.
In the exclusive video clip above, Grammy Award-winning rapper Young Mc has everybody dancing, as he performs his 1989 hit “Bust a Move.” Back in the day, the song peaked at number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100 and stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 for 39 weeks and 20 weeks in the top 40 — and obviously became a dance party staple, unless you don’t know what to do (just bust a move).
While Young Mc was rocking the crowd, of course he back-up dancers started break dancing – I mean it is 80’s night after all.
And just in case you missed last week’s episode, we finally got to see the identities of Fairy and Axolotl. You might remember, Ken Jeong was convinced Fairy was Jennifer Anniston, but it turned out it...

It’s “Country Night” on this week’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” and Variety can reveal some of the celebrities who will be revealed. Well, sort of: These aren’t the actual contestants under masks, but they are they stars who will appear to hand out special clues that provide hints to the identities of each player.
Among the guest stars on Wednesday night’s episode: Country music star Deana Carter, comedian Bill Engvall and NFL star Robert Woods each deliver a special clue for Macaw, Fairy, and Axolotl (respectively).
Next week, when “The Masked Singer” dives into its “80’s Night,” Young Mc busts a move with his hit “Bust a Move,” kicking off the show with a performance. Also seen on the episode are “CHiPs” actor Erik Estrada and “Dallas” star Charlene Tilton; all three guests deliver clues that evening.

One of my all-time favorite movie scenes is when John Candy walks through the house party in Uncle Buck while Young Mc's "Bust a Move" is blasting out of the speakers, so it was an absolute thrill for me to catch up with Young Mc himself, Marvin Young, to discuss his directorial debut Justice Served, a new "what if?" horror thriller that co-stars Lance Henriksen and is out now on DVD and VOD from Breaking Glass Pictures.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Marvin, and congratulations on your new film, Justice Served. How and when did you come up with the idea for the movie?
Marvin Young: It's my pleasure to talk to you. I came up with the concept for Justice Served from watching literally hundreds of movies in preview screenings with critics and live audiences. I got the chance to see...

Now this is what I call a summer movie. Baby Driver has it all: thrills, laughs, sex, nonstop action, a killer soundtrack, a star-making performance from Ansel Elgort and a director – Edgar Wright – who can knock the wind out of you. When was the last time to got pumped by a car chase? This revved-up ride of a movie is loaded with them, and they're spectacular.
Ok, let's back up and get our bearings. Elgort, the teen dream of The Fault in Our Stars, plays Baby, an Atlanta getaway driver with chronic tinnitus.

The new film from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz man Edgar Wright stars Lily James, Kevin Spacey, Ansel Elgort, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Eliza Gonzalez, Cj Jones, Jon Bernthal, Lanny Joon, and Paul Williams which is a ridiculously good cast. They are elevated in the film by Baby’s Driver secret weapon – the soundtrack. You can see the full tracklist below, and will no doubt have enjoyed the kinetically pleasing trailers. The Guardians of the Galaxy films are famous for incorporating classic tracks into the films' scenes and narrative -- nothing beats watching Kurt Russell talk his way through 'Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)' by Looking Glass. James Gunn is not the only director who very carefully considers every track, writes to the music he has picked, and seamlessly weaves it into his films. Edgar Wright has been obsessed with his musical choices since his TV show Spaced, with the following soundtracks for Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End, and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World all including some pretty deep cuts that make for fine listening, long after you've seen the film.
Baby Driver is Wright's next film, and the latest trailer not only included 'Tequila' by The Champs, but was also titled "Official TeKillYah Trailer" to put further emphasis on the music. The trailer also sports...

Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver couldn’t very well have a limp wristed soundtrack to pound the ears of our fast paced getaway driver so who better to lend a few musical strings than the likes of Queen, Blur, Beck and (obviously) Simon and Garfunkel.

In “Baby Driver,” Ansel Elgort plays a getaway driver who constantly has music playing in order to drown out his tinnitus. And, like “Drive” before it, that music seems to be an integral part of the experience in Edgar Wright’s upcoming film, which premiered at SXSW to strong reviews.
“Baby Driver” doesn’t arrive in theaters until later this month, but the tracklist to its soundtrack (which includes three different songs with the word “baby” in the title) is now available courtesy of NME:...

Chris Kattan and Witney Carson received the lowest score from the judges -- 17/40 -- on Monday, followed closely behind by Mr. T and Kym Herjavec, who received a score of 20.
But the low scores aren't bringing Witney down.
Following their week one performance, a Cha Cha to Haddaway's "What Is Love," the 23-year-old dancer amped up the energy during rehearsals with Chris...

Earlier this month, when Vanilla Ice announced via Twitter that he was boldly defying instructions to evacuate his Florida home in the face of Hurricane Matthew, it not only inspired what had to be the greatest (and possibly also the most depressing) tweet ever made by the Florida Democratic Party, but it also made one hope that it might really be a sneaky promo for an upcoming Weather Channel series wherein the rapper and reality TV star goes head to head with natural disasters.

Vanilla Ice performed on the Today show this morning, which sounds strange (seeing as how this is 2016), but made sense when you realize the one-time white-hot “rapper” was helping to promote an “I Love The ‘90s” tour he’s conducting with Salt N Pepa, Coolio, Tone Loc, Rob Base, Young Mc and more. So far, so good. Ice broke into his best-known song, “Ice Ice Baby.” I’m still feeling it. Then, something really strange happened. Four generic, half-hearted Heroes on a Half Shell took the stage with Vanilla Ice… and they Didn’T sing “Ninja Rap” from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II. I mean, what? What?! See for yourself. Vanilla Ice is working the crowd who had gathered outside of the Today show as part of the weekly concert series. And he’s getting ...

The most trusted name in news and rapping circles around fools, Brian Williams, was back on the mic Monday night. Jimmy Fallon and his The Tonight Show team once again chopped up the NBC Nightly News anchor's broadcasts, this time making him spit Sir Mix-a-Lot's timeless rump-shaking anthem "Baby Got Back."
Check Out the 6 Best Musical Moments from Jimmy Fallon's 'Tonight Show' Debut
B-Will delivers the track with an unflappable, avuncular aplomb that would make Walter Cronkite cower, though as always serious props to whoever compiled this at the Tonight Show.

Oh, so that's why Anna Kendrick released that video for "Cups." In addition to being a surprise, sequel-spawning box office hit, "Pitch Perfect" was also a smash soundtrack success that's still topping the Billboard charts in that category today. You would think that Universal Music Group might have done a better push for this, or at least raised some kind of awareness, but anyway a new Ep of sorts of additional songs from the movie is here. Kendrick's "Cups" aka "When I'm Gone" kicks things off, along with the pretty dope remix/mashup of Azealia Banks' "212" and Young Mc's "Bust A Move." Nicki Minaj, Yeasayer and more round it all out. Why this is coming somewhat randomly months after the film is a bit of a question mark, but fans who have been searching for these songs (and they have been) will undoubtedly be pleased. San Francisco Giants pitcher, the 22nd man to toss a perfect game, got us thinking about musical perfectos.
By James Montgomery
The San Fransisco Giants' Matt Cain
Photo:
On Wednesday night, San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain made baseball history — and totally helped my fantasy team — by tossing a perfect game against the Houston Astros. For those who have no idea what that means, Cain faced the minimum of batters — 27 — and didn't allow a single base-runner. That means no walks, no hits, no anything over nine innings (with 14 strikeouts to boot). If that sounds impressive, well, it is: Only 22 pitchers have ever thrown a perfect game in the 143-year history of Major League Baseball, and somewhat surprisingly, the list of those who've accomplished the feat reads less like a who's who of Mlb greats as it does a who's that? For every Hall of Famer (Cy Young, Sandy Koufax, Catfish Hunter) to reach perfection,...

There weren't any local rap heroes for Vernon Parish, Louisiana, Mc Joe Cool to pattern himself after, but that didn't deter the 23-year-old upstart. He was too far from New Orleans to have any Cash Money connection, and hip-hop hot spot Baton Rouge wasn't exactly nearby, so Joe just looked to his close buddies for support. And now it is all starting to pay off.
"I started rapping when I was like 15. All my friends rapped — I was just chillin' in the background. I used to make funny songs and stuff," Joe told Mixtape Daily during a February interview.
It was those "funny" little songs that then turned into hooks for more-developed local rappers. But at the urging of a friend,...

Justin Timberlake was a guest on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" Friday (Oct. 28), and Fallon opted not to go with the traditional guest intro for his good friend.
Instead, they launched directly into what the entire audience was probably hoping to see: a new "History of Rap" medley. Their third survey of hip-hop through the years runs the gamut from Run-dmc to Nicki Minaj, and it's just about as fun as Part 1 and Part 2 were.
Based on a couple viewings of the video, we think this is everything Fallon and Timberlake -- who ostensibly was there to promote his movie "In Time" -- covered in the four-plus minutes of "History of Rap 3." Let us know if we missed anything:
"King of Rock" - Run-dmc
"Mama Said Knock You Out" - LL Cool J
"Parents Just Don't Understand" - DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince
"Me Myself & I" - De La Soul
"Supersonic" - J.

Tonight, the Red Hot Chili Peppers will premiere their new video, for "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie," live on MTV at 7:53 p.m. Et/Pt, with an exclusive interview and fan Q&A to follow on MTV.com.
Obviously, this is a pretty big deal — and not just because it's been more than five years since the band released a new album or because "Maggie" will be their first music video since 2007's "Hump de Bump." No, it's because over the course of their decades-long career, the Chili Peppers have been responsible for some of the most iconic videos of all time, clips that have pushed boundaries and defined generations in the process. One of the most famous voices in hip-hop celebrates a birthday today, as Tone Loc (born Anthony Smith) turns 45 years old today. Though he hasn't released an album since 1991 (that would be Cool Hand Loc, his second and final collection), Loc remains a staple of classic hop-hop conversations thanks to "Wild Thing" (which featured an uncredited sample of the guitar riff from Van Halen's "Jamie's Cryin'") and "Funky Cold Medina."
Loc grew up in Los Angeles and found a friend and collaborator in Young Mc (who co-wrote both of Loc's big hits). The popularity of "Wild Thing" was a cultural event when it hit it big in 1988 (it peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100), as it was a key song that bridged the gap between rock and hip-hop. It also introduced the world to Loc's exquisite voice, which is a sweet, easy-going rasp of an instrument. But though his music lives on,...

The 53rd Grammy Awards are upon us, and music's biggest, most prestigious awards show will feature a number of killer performances, appearances and potential acceptance speeches from the likes of Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Cee Lo Green, Muse, Arcade Fire, B.o.B, Justin Bieber, Lady Antebellum, Jay-z and scores of others. In order to appreciate what's to come, every day the MTV Newsroom Blog will deliver a classic moment in the history of the Grammy Awards. Today's installment: DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince collect the first prize for rap.
Considering how many hip-hop artists are nominated for major awards this year (including Eminem, Jay-z, B.o.B and Drake), it's strange to think of a time when rap music wasn't represented at the Grammys. Tamra Davis Last week, I saw two of the best films I have seen all summer. One was Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, a film I beg you all to see before it gets shunted out of theaters in the next two or three weeks. The other film was Tamra Davis's new doc Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child.
Radiant Child is one of those films that often flies under the radar during this crowded summer season that deserves more attention than it is currently getting. It debuted earlier this year at Sundance along with the much more hyped Banksy film Exit Through The Gift Shop, and the comparisons are obvious. Jean-Michel Basquiat is the blueprint for an artist like Banksy and a cautionary tale as well.
But the similarities stop there. Both films are great. Probably the two best docs you'll see this year. But Banksy...

I love the Muppets, and I would certainly watch a Muppet movie without any of the usual blink-and-you-miss-em movie and TV stars appearing in bit roles, whether they're playing a balloon vendor or themselves (a la Liza Minnelli, in what was my favorite performance of hers until she joined the cast of Arrested Development). But just as with Cannonball Run films, the Muppet movies aren't quite the same without a whole ton of famous faces popping up now and then for quick cameos.
So, ever since the announcement of the new Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller-penned, James Bobin-directed installment, now titled The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time, I've been excitedly wondering what kinds of celebrities will show up for minor support, as Richard Pryor, Bob Hope, Joan Rivers, Steve Martin, Peter Falk, Minnelli and many others had before them. Parties get a lousy rap in movies. Really, how often do you get to see characters having unfettered fun? More often, they're moping and feeling alienated (see "Garden State") or wasted out of their minds (see "Kids") or feeling let down (see "Swingers") or unearthing dark, long-kept family or friendship secrets (see "The Celebration").
Parties are cinematic shorthand for decadence and overindulgence -- and why does that always have to be so bad? In honor of tonight's celebrations of the year to come, here are a few film parties we'd actually like to attend.

Directed by: Jason Reitman
Cast: George Clooney, Anna Kendrick, Vera Farmiga, Jason Bateman, Danny McBride
Running Time: 2 hrs 10 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: December 18, 2009
Plot: Ryan (Clooney) is a man with the unenviable task of flying across the country to fire people … only he loves it. A new young worker bee (Kendrick) comes along and introduces technology that may make him irrelevant. Now Ryan must reexamine this life to see what his future holds.
Who’S It For? Adult comedy drama. This film speaks to the millions of college educated people out there who are being downsized, but also to those who think alone is better.
Expectations: I’ll admit it. With Reitman already having directed Thank You For Smoking and Juno … I was thinking this could be the greatest start a director has ever known.

Puck and Rachel?
A soft side to Sue?
A near-kiss between Will and Emma?
There was plenty to analyze on last night's episode of Glee, so let's get right to it in this edition of the Round Table!
More surprising of a hook-up: Puck and Rachel, or Sue and anyone?
A. Cheerio: Omg, Puck and Rachel! I'm a loyal Jew, but I still didn't see this make-out session coming. Come on, Rach. You can do so much better.
BerryTalented: I had no idea Sue had a loving bone in her body. Who knew Battleship was the way to her heart? Or to other body parts? Yech. I just grossed myself out.
FinnFan: What about Sue and Will?!? They didn't get together, but they did get along. I loved seeing those two dance together. I can't get enough of their scenes.
What was your favorite musical number from the episode?

They've performed Bon Jovi's "It's My Life," Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" and now, in a new episode of Fox's hit musical comedy Glee, the cute cast is doing '80s hip-hop. When Rachel says she is "shocked with the lack of leading-man ambition" in glee club, their fearless (literally) leader Will (a.k.a. Mr. Schuester, McKinley High's glee club coach) steps up to the plate to perform Young M.C.'s classic rap anthem, "Bust A Move." Of course, he has a little help from Artie on bass and Finn on drums, but the flow and the moves are all his own. Glee airs tonight (9 p.m. Est) on Fox.
