More! More! More! The treasure chest of memorabilia is seemingly bottomless, which is exactly what makes Collector’s Call such a huge thrill for host Lisa Whelchel. “The first season, I thought, ‘Man, they’ve got such great things.’ And then the second season, it’s like, ‘Oh, wow, Ok, they found more,’” says the Facts of Life actress. “I couldn’t help but think that at some point, we’re going to run out of great collections.” Nope. Now entering its fifth season, the show that celebrates the epic acquisitions (and passions) of collectors around the country has upped its game once again. “We had a Star Wars collector in Season 2, and it was incredible,” Whelchel recalls with a laugh. “But this [latest] Star Wars collection is — not to be too cheesy — out of this world.” (Credit: ©MeTV) Once again, Whelchel hits the road to visit everyday folks who have spent...

The beloved The Facts of Life actress takes a trip down memory lane in each episode with collectors who have amassed unique pieces worth, in some cases, a small fortune. Not to mention the massive memorabilia treasure trove of Kiss, Garfield, Betty Boop, The Monkees, and everything in between. Tyler Perry‘s most famous character, Madea, has appeared in nearly half the director’s films: a gun-toting, “Hallelu-yer”-shouting force of nature, and an outrageous drag tribute to his mother and aunt. But some films in the Madea Cinematic Universe are gleefully manic, while others arrive in what appears to be a half-finished state of sad melodrama and mediocrity. Not counting her cameo appearance in the otherwise Madea-free “Meet the Browns,” or the animated kids offering “Madea’s Tough Love,” here’s where to find maximum Madea mayhem:
10. “Madea’s Witness Protection”
To look at box office receipts, this one would appear to have been a fan favorite, the second-highest-grossing Madea movie to date. But it came along at a time when Perry was making minor noise about retiring the character, and it really shows. The film looks cheap even by Perry’s budget-minded standards, the jokes are flat, and...

Some Survivor contestants will stop at nothing in their attempt to win the game. Things can get pretty ugly as castaways fight to be the last one standing in the popular CBS reality series. After returning home, these six Survivor players have found themselves on the wrong side of the law.

Can that nostalgic feeling be enough to garner an Emmy nomination? If the 2022 list of nominees is any guide, the answer is yes.
In the live variety special category, the proof is in the pudding. Per usual, the Grammys, the Tonys and the Oscars — slap and all — are nominated. However, the final two slots are filled by ABC’s “Live in Front of a Studio Audience: The Facts of Life and Diff ’rent Strokes” and NBC’s “Pepsi Super Bowl Lvi Halftime Show.”
The Norman Lear and Jimmy Kimmel live special has been nominated each time it has aired previously — first for the recreation of “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons” in 2019 and in 2020, with “Good Times” in the mix. With “The Facts of Life” and “Diff ’rent Strokes” this year, not only were old stories retold, more A-list stars — and talent from the original shows— joined in.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about Tuesday’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience, which aired live on the East Coast on ABC.
After four decades, cameras rolled once again on the classic ’70s/’80s comedies, Diff’rent Strokes and The Facts of Life, as part of ABC’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience tonight.
Airing live on the East Coast, the telecast unfolded smoothly, with no major line flubs and only a few uneven moments, which passed quickly. Soon-to-be-100-year-old TV legend Norman Lear, appearing with Jimmy Kimmel, who produced the third outing in the Live series, dropped an f-bomb that had to be bleeped. The curse word toward the top of the show seemed to be a staged, though amusing, element.

The third edition of Live in Front of a Studio Audience aired Tuesday night with large doses of nostalgia and surprises that dominated the recreations of episodes of classic sitcoms The Facts of Life and Diff’rent Strokes. For Facts, the episode “Kids Can Be Cruel” focused on a rivalry between Natalie (Allison Tolman) and Blair (Jennifer Aniston) that ends up with an innocent party, Carl (Jon Stewart), caught in the crossfire. In the Diff’rent Strokes episode, “No Privacy for Willis”, sharing a bedroom is proving to be too close for comfort for brothers Arnold (Kevin Hart) and Willis (Damon Wayans). With executive producer Norman Lear, who helped bring these series and many others to television in the 1970s and 1980s, and executive producer Jimmy Kimmel introducing the night, the special brought many great moments. You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have: “The Facts of Life.” But there’s no bad, only good — no, make that great — casting here for next week’s “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” remake of the classic 1980s sitcom.
Joining the previously announced Ann Dowd (as Edna Garrett) will be Jennifer Aniston as Blair, Gabrielle Union as Tootie, Allison Tolman as Natalie and Kathryn Hahn as Jo.
For the third installment of “Live in Front of a Studio Audience,” executive producers Norman Lear and Jimmy Kimmel are pairing the iconic late 1970s/early 1980s comedy “Diff’rent Strokes” with its spinoff, “The Facts of Life.” Both series came from Lear’s production companies during that era, Tandem Productions (originally founded by Lear and Bud Yorkin in 1958) and T.A.T. Communications, which were later folded into Embassy Communications.

This article is part of an ongoing series that looks at the history of disability issues in television. You can find Part One in the series, about viewers’ recollections of disability on television here; and Part Two on disability in Very Special Episodes here.
When Norman Lear won another Emmy two weeks ago — becoming the oldest Emmy winner in history — it reminded audiences of how vital and revolutionary the showrunner and creator has been for more than 50 years. His television shows in the 1970s changed the landscape, deconstructing everything from gender to race.
But one area that is often overlooked in his career is his work with disability. It’s a statement Lear chuckles at when asked about — to him, it just made sense to include disabled characters and, more importantly, disabled actors, to emphasize the world we lived in.

“Survivor: Winners at War” sees 20 winners return to duke it out. It’s the greatest crop of contenders the game has ever seen. In my weekly “Battlelines” recap I will diagnose the casualty, declare who I think won the episode’s battle and who is best positioned to win the war. Please feel free to give me your thoughts in the comments below.
Battlelines redrawn again
We saw a recalibration of the battlelines after Tony Vlachos, Nick Wilson, Jeremy Collins and Michele Fitzgerald voted against Sarah Lacina, Ben Driebergen, Kim Spradlin and Denise Stapley to blindside Sophie Clarke. While Tony and Sarah patched things up, Nick made a final three deal with Michele and Denise. The three seemed on board with Kim’s plan to take Tony out. Ben was in the loop, but considering options. Tony winning immunity meant we didn’t see if these new alliances would hold.

It might not be a new phenomenon, but what was once a sacred ceremony on “Survivor” is now a chaotic, nerve-wracking mess of a ritual as castaways walk among each other to jibber and jabber in trios and pairs while others cautiously whisper their choice of who should be voted out.
It used to be that host Jeff Probst presided over Tribal Council and would prod answers out of whatever attendee seemed to be in hot water or in charge of the decision-making that happened at camp before the players trudged to the area with their torches.
Some believe that such protocol began to dissolve during the Caramoan season that aired in 2013 when the so-called Three Amigos —Malcolm Freberg, Ryan Toepfer and Eddie Fox — pulled off a triple immunity move that caused an outburst of chatter. More recently on 2017’s Game Changers season, there was a dual tribe vote that...

While “Survivor” originally started as a show about a group of strangers who had no knowledge of each other before the game, things have changed a bit in the years since. Starting in Season 11 (“Guatemala”) with ex-NFL quarterback Gary Hogeboom, the show has featured notable figures from the world of sports and entertainment, some of whom are identifiable by other castaways on the island with them. Above you can tour our gallery of the 31 celebrity cast members who had some level of fame prior to playing “Survivor.”

I was never the biggest fan of “The Facts of Life,” a sitcom about an all-girls boarding school that ran nine seasons on NBC from 1976 to 1988. But I learned through pop-culture osmosis that Tootie was played by Kim Fields, that Mindy Coen was Natalie and character actress Charlotte Rae was cast as Edna Garrett, a mother hen to a flock of adolescent lassies. I also was somewhat aware of Lisa Whelchel, who was spoiled rich girl Blair Warner on the popular show.
But when Whelchel signed on as a castaway on the 25th season of “Survivor” that took place in the Philippines in 2012, I became quite intrigued by her presence on the show. It was partly because she was able to keep her identity a secret from most of the other players, most who were too young to know about her ties with the sitcom.

“Survivor: Edge of Extinction” castaway Reem Daly learned the hard way about the struggles of being an older woman on “Survivor.” The Season 38 premiere was a self-admitted “nightmare” for Reem as her tribe quickly targeted her for being a weak link, in addition to her assertive attitude, and she became the first person voted out of this season. Reem still has a chance of getting back into the game thanks to the extinction island twist, but it was still a rough turn of events for the 46-year-old sales rep from Virginia. While Reem’s ouster was in part due to a lack of fitting in with her tribe, it’s hard to not see her early difficulties as just another example of women of a certain age struggling on “Survivor,” going all the way back to the first season.

In the game of “Survivor,” the goal is to outwit, outplay and outlast the competition, but sometimes real-life troubles get in the way that lead to dramatic medical evacuations. As of this writing, a whopping 15 castaways have been medevaced by host Jeff Probst and the medical teams due to emergencies — 14 men and only 1 woman (Kourtney Moon). I was a teenager when I first met Charlotte Rae. At 16 is when you’re individuating from authority, and so I think the first couple years of our relationship I was a bit rebellious. I would play practical jokes and I think I drove her crazy. Keep in mind I was older than the other Facts of Life girls. They were in the tutoring trailer and I was on set with the stand-ins. Between 12 and 16 there really is a big difference. Sixteen is when you think you know everything. We laughed in the later years about our dynamic....
Rest in peace, Charlotte Rae. Hours after the beloved TV actress passed away at age 92 after battling cancer, many of Charlotte's former co-stars and fans took to social media to express their sadness over her death.
