If you walk down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan on the last Sunday of June, you’d be confronted by a barrage of rainbow floats. Likely, you’d think to yourself, “Wow, this truly is a celebration of the Lgbtq community.” But upon further scrutiny, you may notice that several of these floats read Td Bank, T-Mobile and Hyatt. If, on a whim, you wanted to join the festivities, hopping on a float or marching in the parade, one of the many police officers would escort you off the street.

The “fearless girl” statue will continue to face off against the Wall Street charging bull despite the bull sculptor’s threat to pursue legal measures to get rid of the competing artwork, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says.
Arthur Di Modica, the artist behind the bull that’s been seated on Bowling Green Plaza in Manhattan’s financial district neighborhood since 1989, claimed the statue of a young girl standing defiantly against the bull since International Women’s Day is nothing more than an “advertising trick.” However, de Blasio says the popular girl isn’t going anywhere.

A nurse who vowed to defy Maine's voluntary quarantine for health care workers who treated Ebola patients followed through on her promise Thursday, leaving her home for an hour-long bike ride. Kaci Hickox and her boyfriend stepped out of their home Thursday morning and rode away on mountain bikes, followed by a state police cruiser. It was the second time Hickox, who is halfway into the 21-day incubation period, broke quarantine. She left her home Wednesday evening briefly to speak to reporters, even shaking a hand that was offered to her. Hickox contends there's no need for quarantine because she's showing no symptoms.

Mark Lewis, the lawyer who has led the attack on hacking cases in the UK, has teamed with two New York law firms to represent at least four people, including one U.S. citizen, who may have had their privacy violated here by Rupert Murdoch-owned properties. If they decide to pursue the matter “I believe it will be taken seriously” by U.S. courts, one of the lawyers — Norman Siegel of Siegel Teitelbaum & Evans — said in a meeting with reporters today. ”These are serious issues.” Steven Hyman of McLaughlin & Stern is co-counsel. Lewis says the clients believe that their phones were hacked on U.S. soil between 2001 and 2006, and are named in notes of Glenn Mulcaire, the UK private investigator who cracked into people’s voicemail accounts for the Murdoch tabloid News Of The World. While the lawyers wouldn’t go into detail about their clients or plans, Lewis says that having U.

First, he lifted the Knicks back into the playoff hunt. Now Jeremy Lin has put them back on TV.
The Madison Square Garden Co. said Friday it had reached a tentative deal to put Knicks games back on television for some 2 million Time Warner Cable subscribers in the New York area. New York state officials and the NBA had pressured the companies to settle.
A dispute over fees had left subscribers unable to watch the Knicks since Jan. 1, meaning they couldn't tune in to watch the undrafted point guard from Harvard come off the bench to lead the team to seven straight wins and a 15-15 record. Fans complained and called for a quick resolution.
One state official close to the negotiations said Lin's phenomenal run forced the deal, along with the recent play of the Rangers, whose hockey games are also carried on the Msg network.

Today’s meeting between U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and a group of family members of 9/11 victims was held in Washington and lasted more than hour, according to attorney Norman Siegel, who represents the 9/11 families. The group sought the meeting in the wake of reports that News Corp reporters may have attempted to hack into victims’ family members’ phone numbers, much in the same way journalists at Rupert Murdoch’s News of the Worldhacked into phones of the families of London bombing victims and murdered children, as well as of politicians and celebrities. That fallout from that scandal caused Notw to shutter and eventually ended News Corp’s bid to take over the UK’s biggest satellite TV provider BSkyB. Holder didn’t say today whether there were phone records indicating tampering on this side of the pond, Siegel said, but did say that the FBI investigation is in the preliminary stages.
