“The Girls on the Bus” are not going round and round. Variety has learned that Max has canceled the political drama after just one season.
“While Max will not be moving forward with a second season of ‘The Girls on the Bus,’ we are grateful to have partnered with immensely talented Amy Chozick, Julie Plec, Rina Mimoun, as well as the teams at Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television,” Max said in a statement. “We are so proud of this powerful story of found family and the celebration of journalism, in all its forms. We thank them and our unrivaled cast for all their incredible work and collaboration.”
Thus ends the show’s long road to the screen. It was originally set up at Netflix with a series order in 2019, but was dropped by that streamer reportedly after production was pushed back because of the pandemic. It then moved to...

“The Girls on the Bus,” Max’s long-in-the-works journalism dramedy series from the producers of “The Flight Attendant,” finally has a trailer.
The series follows four women as they work as embedded political reporters on a presidential campaign trail. There’s idealistic Sadie McCarthy (Melissa Benoist), who works for a respectable newspaper; Grace (Carla Gugino), a veteran reporter whose hard-nosed style gets scoops and makes enemies; Kimberlyn (Christina Elmore), a Black conservative who works for a right-wing news channel; and Lola (Natasha Benham), who thinks traditional journalism is ancient and social media is where it’s at. Though they’re all very competitive and different from each other, they develop a close bond as they work within the pressure cooker environment of the campaign trail.
The cast also includes Scott Foley, Brandon Scott, Griffin Dunne, and Mark Consuelos.

“I literally knew nothing about the show,” admits Jack Alcott about landing the role of Harrison Morgan in “Dexter: New Blood.” The original Showtime series starring Michael C. Hall aired from 2006 to 2013, spanning the ages of 10 to 17 for the actor. “I was not old enough to watch it. I knew it was a great show and a lot of people watched it. When the audition came in I was like, oh, this is cool.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Throughout the audition process, Alcott was never actually told he would be playing Dexter’s son. “There was a fake name,” he explains. “I was auditioning for ‘Randall,’ who was vaguely described as a likable kid, but he’s got something going on. I was like, ‘Oh, he’s definitely going to be a bad guy, this is so cool.’ Then throughout a series of auditions…I learned this is Dexter’s son.

“What made me do it was Clyde Phillips and Michael C. When Clyde called me I jumped at the opportunity and Michael really wanted me there to do it with him. I was anxious, nervous, excited. All of the above. That’s what drove me to want to do it.”

A decade after Dexter Morgan sailed off into the sunset storm, he’s back and ready for some new blood. Showtime officially greenlit a “Dexter” revival in October 2020, with the premiere date taking place on November 7, 2021. Michael C. Hall is back, of course, as the adorably geeky Bay Harbor Butcher, aka the Miami, Fl blood splatter analyst/serial killer who focuses his bloodlust on murdering other serial killers. Original showrunner Clyde Phillips is also back as an executive producer of the new episodes. Here’s everything to know about “Dexter: New Blood” Season 9, including the cast and trailer.

Dexter just can't help himself.
On Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 5, Dexter took revenge on the man responsible for harming his son -- forgoing Harry's Code for something more primal.
Is he finally getting himself into a mess from which he can't escape?
Michael C. Hall continues to kill it (in every way) as Dexter. He knows this character inside and out, and it shows. Every inflection, every nuanced movement, every sideways glance -- you can tell he relishes this role.
Hall's Dexter is so intriguingly conflicted. He knows he has to tread lightly with Harrison, but he still manages to screw it up. The more he tries to get Harrison to open up to him, the more Harrison pulls away -- and possibly under the wing of an even more terrifying serial killer.
Dexter's humanity is no longer up for debate. In the early seasons of the original series,...

This Dexter: New Blood review contains spoilers.
Dexter: New Blood Episode 5
If the first four episodes of Dexter: New Blood have been merely table setting, then “Runaway” is the episode in which the meal finally arrives. After last week’s season-best installment, “Runaway” is chock-full of close calls and game-changing reveals that will fundamentally change the second half of the show. Not only is Dexter possibly losing his grip on the newfound connection that he has with his son, but his entire assumed identity in Iron Lake appears to be in serious jeopardy. How the writers decide to deal with the episode’s final stinger will ultimately determine the success of this series and whether any lessons were learned from the show’s shaky past.
While Dexter’s choice to confront Harrison over his “heroic act” is correct, his logic as to why he wants to certainly is warped. His...

Dexter only just returned to Showtime after many years away.
As many viewers will recall, the original series culminated in a final season that was far from satisfying.
In fact, the series finale was widely regarded as one of the worst series finales in TV history.
Dexter New Blood only launched a few days ago, and Clyde Phillips, the showrunner on the series, is already hyping up the conclusion, calling it the best thing he has ever written.
"It’s going to be surprising, inevitable and it’s going to blow up the Internet," he shared in an interview with TV Line.
"It is, I personally think, the best thing I’ve written," he added.
"Our director Marcos Siega, who could not be more experienced and a better friend of the show, thinks it’s the best thing he’s ever directed."
"I haven’t seen it yet, by the way.

Dexter’s Michael C. Hall looks chilling in the key art for Showtime’s upcoming revival Dexter: New Blood.
To celebrate the original series 15th anniversary on Friday, Showtime dropped two pieces of key art for Dexter’s next chapter, which is set to debut on November 7 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.
Dexter, which aired for eight seasons on Showtime from 2006-13, centered on the mild-mannered Dexter Morgan (Hall). By day, Dexter worked as a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police. By night, he was a serial killer—one who happened to target other murderers.
Set 10 years after Dexter went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, Dexter: New Blood finds the titular character living under an assumed name in the fictional small town of Iron Lake, New York. Dexter may be embracing his new life, but in the wake of unexpected events in this close-knit community, his Dark Passenger inevitably beckons.

Showtime released the official trailer for the upcoming event series Dexter: New Blood, providing more than a few clues about what longtime fans of the killer show can expect.
For starters, Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan clearly hasn’t outrun his Dark Passenger. “Monsters walk among us,” Dexter says in voiceover, after we’ve seen that a serial killer – the exact type that the avenging Dexter has always chosen as his victims – has been stalking his new Upstate New York territory. “I might still be a monster, but I’m an evolving monster.”
And just to make absolutely certain we get the sharp-edged point, we see Dex sharpening a meat cleaver, and hear his long-suffering sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) ask, “You can not wait to kill again – have you learned nothing?”

Michael C. Hall — serial killer Dexter Morgan himself — has known since Showtime’s serial killer drama “Dexter” ended that a return to the character was a possibility. Instead of being killed off in the end, he only faked his death, leaving his young son with another killer (Yvonne Strahovski) and hiding out as a lumberjack.

For the second year in a row, San Diego Comic-Con — the largest fan gathering in North America — has been forced by the pandemic to hold its annual convention as a virtual event. Last year’s Comic-Con@Home was a valiant effort to keep the 51-year tradition alive, but without marquee draws such as Marvel Studios and DC Films, it barely made a blip in terms of social media impact.
This year’s virtual Comic-Con has been scaled down, taking place largely over three days (July 23–25) instead of five. And with Marvel and DC sitting out once again, Comic-Con@Home promises to be a far more modest event than the gargantuan convention that’s drawn more than 130,000 attendees to San Diego every summer.
Ironically, the most Comic-Con-y event may be a panel Paramount is holding two days early — i.e. today — at 1 p.m. Pt for the “G.I. Joe” spin-off “Snake Eyes,...

Exclusive: David Magidoff (The Morning Show) has been added to the cast of Showtime’s Dexter revival set in the upstate New York town of Iron Lake.
He will co-star opposite Michael C. Hall, Clancy Brown, Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah and Jack Alcott in the 10-episode limited series, which begins production next month in Massachusetts.
Magidoff will play Teddy. The new guy. Been a cop in Iron Lake for two and a half weeks… really. Good-natured, quirky, hardworking, eager to please; and a little scared of his boss, Police Chief Angela Bishop (Jones). At first glance, he seems timid and inexperienced, but when the rubber hits the road, he’s a dependable badass…in his own way.
The original series, which ran from 2008-13 and remains one of Showtime’s signature dramas, followed Dexter Morgan (Hall), a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami Police Department who moonlighted as a serial killer.

Marcos Siega has signed on to exec produce and direct six of the 10-episode revival starring Michael C. Hall.
Set 10 years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, the revival sees the character now living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami, per Showtime’s official logline.
Siega had been a frequent collaborator of returning Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips and directed nine episodes of the series — two of which were written by Phillips. Siega’s credits include helming The CW’...

The working environment for women directors in television has steadily improved over the years, but while mentorship of the formal and informal variety has helpedto bridge the gap in representation behind the camera, there’s still a ways to go before parity is achieved.
Of the more than 4,300 TV episodes produced in the 2018-19 season, the percentage directed by women has more than doubled over the past five years and has edged up from the 2017-18 season when only one in four directors were women. But they cap out at only to 31%, according to the Directors Guild of America’s inclusion report from last fall.
“There’s been a dramatic shift in the last couple years, where now everybody’s actively working to make sure that for television, women are part of the directing team,” says Nicole Kassell, executive producer and director of “Watchmen.” “And I think on the feature side,...

The new lead of the CW’s Batwoman will not be Kate Kane. The show has opted to go with a new character in the title role following the exit of star Ruby Rose, sources confirm to Deadline. The show was expected to go for a new identity of Batwoman, which is a far more elegant way of replacing a lead than straight-out recasting, especially given the fact that comic book canon is built on superheroes having multiple alter egos.
In a casting notice, a copy of which was obtained by Deadline, the new lead character is named Ryan Wilder and is younger than Katy Kane — she is in her mid-to late 20s. It is unclear whether Ryan is a newly created character or a code name for an existing DC character, but Season 2 of the CW show will chronicle how she becomes Batwoman.

The CW on Tuesday made decisions on its four remaining traditional pilots, picking up two, Kung Fu and The Republic of Sarah, to series, and rolling the other two, The Lost Boys and Maverick.
The decision added yet another chapter in the long journey to the screen for Rob Thomas’ The Lost Boys reboot. The Lost Boys pilot had already been in production when the pandemic shut down all filming in mid-March, so the CW brass had seen some footage before opting to roll it and proceed with Kung Fu instead..
On a press call Thursday, the CW president Mark Pedowitz said he has spoken with Thomas and the rest of the pilot’s creative team about the decision.
