It’s almost time to turn that frown upside down again as Smile 2 casts Lukas Gage alongside Naomi Scott in the sequel.
Smile, Parker Finn’s deliciously creepy horror film, was a bit of an unexpected hit for Paramount back in 2022. Horror has always been a bankable genre; low production costs but decent box office returns is the recipe for success, but Smile was also pretty well received by critics.
A sequel was greenlit almost immediately, because those pesky Hollywood studios like to strike while the iron is hot. Finn is reportedly returning to write and direct the sequel, which doesn’t have an official title yet. Naomi Scott was reported to play the lead and now, as reported by Deadline, Lukas Gage is joining her.

Lukas Gage’s life has taken a complete 180 ever since he became a viral hit after releasing the now-infamous video of director Tristram Shapeero disparaging his apartment following a Zoom audition.
Since then, he’s appeared in “The White Lotus,” “Euphoria” and “You.” He’ll next star in “How to Blow Up a Pipeline” and was recently at SXSW to premiere “Down Low,” a raunchy queer comedy he not only co-wrote with Phoebe Fisher but also stars in with Zachary Quinto.
Gage is also becoming a go-to celeb for brand endorsements. His new deal is with Tequila Don Julio Rosado, helping promote the pink-hued spirit and the “P(arty) Time Off!” campaign. “Tequila on the rocks is my go-to,” Gage tells Variety. “I used to be a beer guy. But then it made me a little too bloated sometimes. So I think I just keep it to some good quality tequila,...

On Feb. 7, 2013, after delays and significant drama behind the scenes, Community debuted “History 101,” the first episode of the long-awaited fourth season, and the first under new showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port. Fan reaction to the outing was mixed, to put it mildly, while critics were downright savage. Soon enough, cast and crew began to express their misgivings, too. The entire season was later written off in-universe as the result of a gas leak, never to be spoken of again.
Was that a fair assessment, though? Countless other “bad” installments of pop culture have been revisited over the years, only for perceived faults to be found not quite so damning as audiences initially thought. With an entire decade of hindsight and objectivity to reflect upon, was the fourth season of Community really that bad?
Kind of, yeah!

Pivoting was a surprise cancelation at Fox after it emerged that the critically acclaimed comedy would not return for a second season.
The move came after lengthy negotiations between the network and studio Warner Bros Television.
Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment at Fox, said that canceling the show, which stars Eliza Coupe, Ginnifer Goodwin and Maggie Q, was a “hard call”.
“Liz Astrof and Aaron Kaplan are great partners and we have to make tough decisions. We had to look at it holistically, not just as a show, but as a business and in this case we were sorry not to renew it,” he said.
Pivoting had been considered a strong bet for renewal. A favorite of the Fox brass, the show had a rare 100 on Rotten Tomatoes as one of the best-reviewed new broadcast series and also was a strong performer on Hulu, which the network has been able to monetize.

Television director Tristram Shapeero has apologized for a comment he made during a virtual audition that was recently shared by “Euphoria” actor Lukas Gage.
In the video clip, which went viral over the weekend, Shapeero can be heard saying, “These poor people live in these tiny apartments. Like I’m looking at his, you know, background and he’s got his TV,” seemingly unaware that his mic was unmuted. Gage then replied: “I know it’s a shitty apartment. That’s why, give me this job so I can get a better one.”

Exclusive: Jt Neal is set as a series regular opposite Ginnifer Goodwin in Fox’s comedy pilot Pivoting, from writer Liz Astrof, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Warner Bros TV.
Written by Astrof and to be directed by Tristram Shapeero, Pivoting follows three women — Amy (Coupe), Jodie (Goodwin) and Sarah (not yet cast) — after the death of their childhood best friend. Faced with the reality that life is short, in desperate attempts to find happiness, they make a series of impulsive, ill-advised and self-indulgent decisions, strengthening their bond and proving it’s never too late to screw up your life.
Neal will play Matt, a cute, guileless, trainer who, while not an intellectual, is a savant when it comes to fitness. A sheltered guy, he still lives with his mother. He is wildly attracted to Jodie (Goodwin) and respects her commitment to getting in shape.

Fox is planning to produce all six of its pilot orders for this year’s development season and will continue to ramp up its off-cycle pilot orders.
The network has made the decision after its traditional pilot season was impacted by the Covid-19 production shutdown. Fox is the latest network to make its pilot decisions, after NBC and ABC both committed to filming five pilots.
Pilots for comedies Pivoting, starring Eliza Coupe, and This Country, the remake of the BBC series, join dramas The Big Leap, also inspired by a UK format, Argentinean remake The Cleaning Lady, Melissa Leo-fronted crime drama Blood Relative and its Goonies-inspired Untitled Film Re-Enactment Project will all be produced once production can safely resume.
Fox has extended the cast options for all of these pilots, which have all been written by women. All projects will be co-productions with Fox Entertainment and their original studio.

Fox still intends to shoot all six of the pilots it ordered this cycle ahead of the pandemic-forced production shutdowns and delays that hit the U.S. in mid-March, the network announced Thursday.
The broadcaster says it’s extended the options for all the projects, including single-camera comedies “Pivoting” and “This Country,” as well as dramas “The Big Leap,” “Blood Relative,” “The Cleaning Lady” and an untitled drama that follows kids attempting to make a shot-for-shot remake of Steven Spielberg’s “The Goonies.” However, there is currently no timeline set to begin production on the pilots amid Covid-19.
If ordered to series, these six pilots — which are all co-productions between Fox Entertainment and their respective studios — would join a lineup of new shows at Fox that includes Mayim Bialik-led comedy “Call Me Kat,” Nick Offerman and Jenny Slate’s animated series “The Great North,” and “Housebroken,” another adult cartoon,...

OTTThe show puts an Indian-American teen at the centre, pushing past generations of stories that have placed white protagonists in the spotlight.Nikhita VenugopalThere’s a formula when it comes to classic teen rom-coms — a girl, a boy, best friends, overbearing parents, school. The best versions of these stories draw us in with tropes (because who doesn’t love a good rom-com) but keep us hooked for something much more. For teen stories, the task becomes harder because we’re wired to dismiss their problems as ‘angst’ and move on with our day. But beyond the crushes and homework and screaming matches, it’s ultimately a kid in crisis, hoping to be taken seriously in a world where the adults are talking. Netflix released the first 10-episode season of Never Have I Ever this week, a new series from actor and comedian Mindy Kaling and writer-producer Lang Fisher, about a...

Charlie turned up, scratched some records, and has now been given his marching orders by Netflix.
Variety reports today that the Idris Elba-fronted music drama, Turn Up Charlie, has been canned after just one season. The comedy, which featured Elba as a struggling DJ and eternal bachelor, managed to carve out a loyal audience after it premiered on Netflix last year. Be that as it may, it looks like Turn Up Charlie is less of a DJ sensation and more of a one-hit-wonder.
Idris Elba originally created the series alongside Gary Reich, and delivered a pretty entertaining performance as the eponymous Charlie, whose unlikely friendship with problem-child Sara became the beating heart of the show.
Per Netflix:
Turn Up Charlie will not return for a second season. We’re especially grateful to star and executive producer Idris Elba, who turned his passion for DJing into a witty, heart-warming comedy series.

Superstore will ring in the new year with a long-awaited (and potentially dangerous) family reunion, when Dean Norris enters Cloud 9 as Dina’s deadbeat dad.
As previously reported, the Breaking Bad vet will assume the role of Howard Fox, a “rugged and eccentric” individual who comes back into Dina’s life, ready to make amends for leaving her when she was just a child. (The character was most recently referenced in the Oct. 24 episode “Self-Care,” when Glenn served as a temporary stand-in for Dina’s father.) In the exclusive photo above, Dina looks positively giddy to be reunited with Dad,...

Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher’s previously untitled Netflix series has been given a name.
“Never Have I Ever [Netflix] 2020,” Kaling tweeted of the show’s title on Friday.
The comedian and actress couldn’t resist throwing in a quip, saying in a second tweet, “That is not my presidential campaign announcement.”

A Netflix spokesperson confirmed that the title is for the upcoming series inspired by Kaling’s childhood. “Never Have I Ever” will revolve around main character Devi, who is described as an overachieving high school sophomore who has a short fuse that gets her into difficult situations.
Devi will be played by newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, who was cast after Kaling put out a tweet for an open casting call for the role in April. Over 15,000 people responded to it. This will be Ramakrishnan’s first on-screen role.

Tennis icon John McEnroe has signed on to narrate Never Have I Ever (formerly known as the Kaling/Fisher Project), Netflix’s coming-of-age comedy series from Mindy Kaling, The Mindy Project co-exec producer Lang Fisher and Universal TV.
McEnroe confirmed in an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers that he will narrate the comedy series as himself. His casting adds a sentimental touch to the series as the idol of lead character Devi’s (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) dead father.
Co-created, co-written and executive produced by Kaling and Fisher, who also serve as showrunners, Never Have I Ever is inspired by Kaling’s own childhood and centers on the complicated life of a modern-day first-generation Indian American teenage girl (Ramakrishnan).
Kaling and Fisher executive produce with 3 Arts’ Howard Klein and David Miner and Tristram Shapeero.
