Director Fred Dekker’s 1987 cult classic monster mash The Monster Squad (watch it Here) features variations of the classic Universal Monsters characters Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, and the Gillman, but it wasn’t actually a Universal production. So to avoid getting in trouble with Universal, the movie’s effects crew at the Stan Winston Studio had to create their own specific designs of the creatures… but that didn’t stop them from sneaking homages to the original monsters in there. It has been known for a while now that designers Steve Wang and Matt Rose hid the face of the original Creature from the Black Lagoon somewhere on the neck of their Gillman suit. Now – as pointed out by Monster Squad super-fan Shawn Robare of Plastic Rocket Pop – the exact location of that face has been found!

With a love of cinema woven into its DNA, The Monster Squad helped indoctrinate ’80s kids to the classic monsters. The generation that grew up watching it on home video and HBO look back on the 1987 film with the same reverence director Fred Dekker had for the Universal monster movies, and now they’re passing it down in a similar fashion. There’s no better way to introduce the next generation than with the new 4K edition.
Conceived as “The Little Rascals meets the Universal Monsters,” the cleverly-plotted film clocks in at a tight 82 minutes. The punchy script by Dekker and Shane Black doesn’t have an ounce of fat on it, save for the casual homophobia, misogyny, and body shaming of the time. Drawing inspiration from Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, human characters offer well-placed levity and a bevy of memorable one-liners, but the monsters are played straight.

The plan, unveiled Monday along with AT&T’s third-quarter earnings, includes several provisions called for by Elliott, which has accumulated a roughly 1% stake in the company.
Elliott Partner Jesse Cohn and Associate Portfolio Manager Marc Steinberg issued a statement commending Stephenson, Lead Director Matt Rose and the entire board and management team. The pair described the plan as the result of “creative collaboration” between Elliott and AT&T.
“We commend AT&T for the positive steps announced today, which will create substantial and enduring shareholder value at one of America’s greatest companies,” the statement said. “We have worked closely and collaboratively with management and the Board on the initiatives announced today. I never had a chance to meet Matt Rose in person, but we had become friends over the last few years via emails and a few phone calls, and he was somebody who you felt like you knew for a lifetime even after one conversation. For those who may not know, I started working on a series of books celebrating the lives of special effects artists in 2016, which is how I connected with Matt, and his story was (and still is) set to be a part of the next installment that should hopefully be out later this year. Tragically, though, Matt Rose passed away this weekend, and it breaks my heart that he won’t be here to enjoy seeing his career commemorated in print, because he deserved to get to enjoy that moment. So, I thought I would take this moment to pay tribute to Matt here and let...

If you’re a horror fan, then chances are you love The Monster Squad. With that in mind, I think anyone who generally reads a genre website already has a pretty good grasp on just why The Monster Squad has endured for over 30 years, becoming even more popular now than it was three decades ago, and so going into André Gower’s documentary, Wolfman’s Got Nards, I was intrigued to see what he was going to bring to the table for his directorial debut, because I felt like we’d seen a good amount of material out there thus far that has done a solid job of diving into the 1987 horror comedy.
But as Wolfman’s Got Nards weaves through a variety of talking head segments, Q&A footage, and delightful animatics, it becomes clear why Gower is the perfect person to capture all the happenings that coincided with...

Undoubtedly, one of the most beloved genre movies to come out of 1987 was Fred Dekker’s The Monster Squad, a perfect blend of humor, heart, and affection for the classic monsters so many of us grew up on. And while it may not have done great business at the box office when it was released in August of that year, The Monster Squad has deservedly become a true cult classic, and remains a brilliant gateway horror experience for younger viewers who are just becoming initiated in the ways of genre cinema.
With The Monster Squad’s 30th anniversary nearly upon us, and with our “Class of 1987” celebration currently in full swing, I thought this would make for a splendid opportunity to chat with the actors who put the “Monster” in “The Monster Squad” in the first place: Tom Noonan (“Frankenstein’s Monster”), Duncan Regehr (“Count Dracula”), Tom Woodruff Jr. (“the...

While the Predator's trademark set of mandibles may be the first thing people think of when visualizing the alien hunter, it wasn't until the very end of the first film that his face is revealed. What initially sold audiences on this creature from another world was its high-tech gear that was highlighted by the now-iconic hunting mask. Sideshow Collectibles has produced more than a dozen collectibles based on the Predator franchise and their most recent release is the expertly crafted 1:1 replica of the mask from the 1987 movie. They have given us a look at the new mask and it is a worthy addition to any Predator fan's collection.
As someone who owns Sideshow's 1:1 busts from Alien and Aliens that didn't come with the custom-designed boxes, I'm really enjoying the new box design they've been including with their larger pieces. Their new approach gives a better first impression,...

Kaley Cuoco just loves showing Pda ... and she's getting her friends into it too! The "Big Bang Theory" star posted a picture via Instagram while out to dinner with pals Haylie Duff and Ali Fedotoswky in West Hollywood on Thursday. In the shot, each of the ladies can be seen kissing their significant others -- Kaley's locking lips with husband Ryan Sweeting, Haylee with her beau Matt Rose and Ali with boyfriend Kevin Manno. "Yea. We are totally in high school. Totally.... #craigsmakeoutsesh," Cuoco captioned the makeout picture. Kaley's kiss definitely looks the most awkward in the group shot -- doesn't the blonde beauty look like she's in a little pain? Maybe the actress was just trying to be funny. The 28-year-old is definitely still in her honeymoon phase, that's for sure! What do you think about the Cuoco's group snap?Sound off below, and check out more pictures from...

After three seasons (or series as our friends across the pond call them…or…are we the ones across the pond? Hrm) playing the Doctor it was announced that Matt Smith will be leaving Doctor Who at the end of the year.
He will be appearing in the big 50th Anniversary Special in November as well as the Christmas Special in December, in which he will regenerate into the twelfth incarnation of The Doctor. It’s not known who will be replacing Matt Smith. My bets on….Helen Mirren.

Oh no, say it ain’t so! In a shocking headline that I had to read twice to believe, actor Matt Smith reveals his days as Doctor Who are numbered.

There will be a new Time Lord roaming the universe in 2014: Matt Smith is leaving "Doctor Who."
Smith, who joined the series in 2010 as the 11th Doctor (and third since "Doctor Who" relaunched in 2005), will star in the show's 50th anniversary episode on Nov. 23. The character will regenerate in the annual Christmas special.

Oh no! Matt Smith is officially leaving Doctor Who! I'm sad. I really loved Smith as the 11th Doctor. The hunt is now on for Doctor number twelve. The actor will be back for only two more episodes. Those include the upcoming 50th Anniversary Special in November, and the 2013 Christmas Special, which is where his regeneration will happen.

Having Steven Moffat as show runner write such varied, funny, mind-bending and brilliant scripts...

However, it has been officially announced today that Matt Smith will leave the show at the end of the year:

Ah well, it was bound to happen at some point, but today the BBC offically announced that the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, will be leaving Doctor Who after – well, during, really – the Christmas special. In fact it’s kind of nice that the 50th anniversary special, which is set to air in November, will be including David Tennant and Billie Piper. Hopefully that will be a nice closure for those of us who started with the show during the Russell T. Davies reboot.
Here’s the press release:

The BBC has confirmed that Matt Smith is to leave Doctor Who during the 2013 Christmas Special, in an announcement that puts an end to the months of speculation surrounding the Eleventh Doctor's tenure in the Tardis. Smith's final episode will be this December's festive outing, during which his character will regenerate into the actor's as-yet-unnamed successor.
The BBC, showrunner Steven Moffat, and the man in question have been dancing around Smith's longevity in the role of the Doctor for months now, responding to rumours of his having quit the series earlier this year with a string of rebuttals, evasions, and brazen "He'll be the Doctor until the end of time" declarations. Now the news is finally out, here's what Smith had to say on his departure:

The Matt Smith era on "Doctor Who" will end this Christmas after three seasons. The BBC made the announcement Saturday as fans get ready for the 50th anniversary of the franchise in November. And in the words of showrunner Steven Moffat: "Now the search begins" on who will replace Smith. "Every day, on every episode, in every set of rushes, Matt Smith surprised me," Moffat said in a statement. "The way he'd turn a line, or spin on his heels, or make something funny, or out of nowhere make me cry, I just never knew what was coming next. The Doctor can be a clown and hero, often at the same time, and Matt rose to both challenges magnificently." Smith is expected to make his exit during this year's Christmas special, one year after his new companion played by Jenna-Louise Coleman was ...

At 12:55 a.m. Est on November 7, Governor Mitt Romney took the stage in Boston, Ma to concede the presidential race to President Barack Obama. He kept his concession speech short, clocking in at just under 5 minutes, and urged his supporters to pray for Obama's success over the course of his second term. The transcript of his speech, in its entirety, is below. We'll add video when it's available.
"I have just called President Obama to congratulate him on his victory. His supporters and his campaign also deserve congratulations. I wish all of them well, but particularly the president, the first lady, and their daughters. This is a time of great challenges for America and I pray that the president will be successful in guiding our nation.

We packed the truck that would travel to location in Palenque, Mexico a few days before we traveled via airplane. The set crew: Steve Wang, Matt Rose, Shane Mahan, Brian Simpson, Richard Landon and me. Stan Winston would be with us, supervising the set work, understanding that we would only be gone for two weeks. At least that is what our work visas indicated. Palenque, Mexico was not a location easily reached. It required one flight from Los Angeles to Mexico City, another to Villa Hermosa, and finally a long ride in a Volkswagen bus through miles of rough country until we reached our hotel that was, from what we were told, the best in the area. It sat in a large clearing, surrounded by trees; two wings of rooms branched out from a central building that housed a restaurant/bar. Later, we discovered that Arnold Schwarzenegger had taken over the entire upper conference room and had...

By now, most fans credit Steve Wang and Matt Rose for the creation of the Predator. However, in my conversations with Steve, in particular, he feels that an unfair amount of credit has been given to him; it was a team effort bringing the Predator to life, and he couldn’t be more correct. During Monster Squad, Matt and Steve, who had been responsible for the Gillman, had worked through the weekend, grabbing precious few hours of sleep, while they established and painted the final suit. On Monday morning, it stood in the middle of Stan Winston’s satellite shop in all of its amphibian beauty. Stan saw it and his jaw bounced onto his chest. He had Never seen anything like it. It impressed him so much, that he, literally, stopped the work in the studio, gathered all of his employees around it and heaped praise upon these two kids (Matt was roughly 21 and Steve 20…maybe...

It's a battle of the network zombie shows, and neither one is going to recognize the indie short film and comic book series P.M.A.C.: When Zombies Attack . The latest Hollywood deal comes from NBC, says Deadline, who purchased Austin Winsberg's Zombies vs. Vampires . The potential series follow two cops living in a society where zombies are part of society and commit zombie crimes. One of the officers is secretly a vampire. Earlier this week, SyFy announced Zeros . A similar premise. That one concerned an extermination squad that combs cities for potential zombie problems. So, what the hell is P.M.A.C.: When Zombies Attack ? It was a series that kicked off this whole Cops meets the undead formula. Matt Rose and Chad Waters created the property which spawned two...
