At the time, Scream 4 seemed like a pretty definitive end for the franchise, providing Sidney Prescott with a second round of closure and riffing on all of the (then) recent trends in horror media. Of course, no matter how satisfying they may be, endings are always bittersweet, so fans were understandably bummed that this would be the last we’d ever see of good old Ghostface. That’s why it makes sense that folks were ecstatic when MTV announced that they were producing a televised follow-up to Scream, Wes Craven’s iconic horror franchise.
After all, a small-screen adaptation of a series known for its satirical meta elements and memorable protagonists could absolutely thrive on network television, especially with the TV horror renaissance of the mid-2010s gifting us with plenty of shows to satirize. Cast your mind back to October of 2016, when MTV announced plans for a third, truncated season of its Scream reboot, and you’ll likely recall the moment in which erstwhile showrunners Michael Gans and Richard Register stepped down from the helm, prompting a search for new talent to oversee the six-parter.
Turns out that that overhaul stretches to the other side of the lens, too, now that MTV has begun casting its new leads. Welcoming fresh blood aboard its TV revamp, Deadline reports that Tyga and C.J. Wallace have now joined the network’s horror series, which will premiere as a three-night event in March of 2018.
Stretching for six hours in total, content-wise, Scream season 3 is a notable downgrade from previous instalments in the show, given how seasons 1 and 2 were comprised of 10 and 13 episodes, respectively. For this particular incarnation, which comes from the mind of Queen Latifah and showrunner...

Last October, fans of MTV's Scream series were given an early Halloween treat when the network announced that the show had been renewed for a third, albeit shortened, season, and now it's being reported that the series could reboot with a new plot and new characters.
Deadline reports that MTV and Dimension TV are considering focusing on a different story in Scream Season 3 after following high schooler Emma (Willa Fitzgerald) and her Lakewood friends as they tried to survive a masked killer in the first two seasons (and a Halloween special).
No official confirmation has been made for these plans, so it's uncertain if a rebooted story will actually be featured in season 3, but Deadline reports that the cast is being allowed to take on other acting roles, with Fitzgerald recently coming on board Fox's Behind Enemy Lines pilot episode.
Additionally, a showrunner still has not been introduced for season...

Scream fans may have their sights firmly trained on Tuesday’s upcoming Halloween special, but we now have word that MTV has renewed the slasher-horror series for a third season.
There is one snag, though; when Scream does make its return, it’ll be for a six-episode run, whereas the previous two seasons have comprised 10 and 13 episodes, respectively. It’s understood MTV is also casting the net in search of new showrunners to replace Michael Gans and Richard Register, who will depart the series adaptation after season 2. This is the third showrunner change in as many seasons, considering that Gans and Register were drafted in to fill the void left by Jill Blotevogal and Jaime Paglia following Scream‘s inaugural outing. News regarding cast members and a premiere date are also being kept under lock and key at this time.

Michael Gans and Richard Register faced an unenviable challenge when they took the reins as showrunners of MTV’s “Scream: The TV Series” for Season 2. When the series first debuted last year, most initially speculated that the series would be a horror anthology in the vein of FX’s “American Horror Story.” But the show’s original creative team made the surprising decision to take the series in a more serialized direction, announcing at Comic-Con last year that a potential second season would revolve around the characters who survived the first 10 episodes. That decision meant Gans and Register were left with the task.
