- Portrayed "Sarah Tucker" in Cool Whip Commercials of the 1970s.
- Best remembered as portraying Sister Jacqueline on the television show The Flying Nun (1967).
- Stepped in for Angela Lansbury to portray Mrs. Lovett in the original Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd in 1979 when she went on vacation.
- Started her professional career in Cleveland, Ohio, as a cooking expert on radio and with repertory companies in musicals. She later had her own 'agony aunt' radio show, "Ask Miss Wells".
- After graduation, she worked in a bank as a typist and a mail page.
