‘The Mist’ 4K Ultra HD Review – There’s a Reason We’re Still Talking About This Movie 16 Years Later
Stephen King adaptations have always been hit and miss. Before Mike Flanagan came along, there was one filmmaker who could always be trusted with King’s material: Frank Darabont, whose first foray into filmmaking was a short adaptation of “The Woman in the Room.” After making a name for himself as a screenwriter with the likes of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and The Blob, Darabont made his feature directorial debut with 1994’s The Shawshank Redemption and followed it up with The Green Mile in 1999.
His thus-far final King adaptation came in 2007 with The Mist, which finds a group of locals trapped in a grocery store while an ominous fog shrouding mysterious secrets envelopes their quaint Maine town. A microcosm of any community, the supermarket is a canny setting for a contained thriller. The divisive mob mentality and pigheaded self-righteousness that manifests under pressure is even more poignant in a post-Trump world.

The coming-of-age film American Pie was one of the surprise hit movies of the 1999 film season. Fans quickly became invested in a group of high school friends and their families in the Jason Biggs, Eugene Levy, and Jennifer Coolidge-led big-screen success. Two years later, American Pie 2 revisited the friend group, now college students. However, when the third sequel, American Wedding, was filmed in 2003, many cast favorites were missing. Why was that so?
Why were so many of ‘American Pie’s’ original cast members not a part of ‘American Wedding?’
In 2003, producers of the American Pie film franchise orchestrated the wedding of Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs) and Michelle Flaherty (Alyson Hannigan) as the centerpiece of American Wedding. The movie intended to bring together the cast of the first two installments as a love letter for the characters and film fans who supported the franchise since 1999.

Tracy Chapman is set to make history this week when Luke Combs’ version of her 1988 song “Fast Car” is expected to go Number One on the country charts. According to multiple sources, including Twitter chart guru Chris Owen, Combs’ version of Chapman’s ballad will top Billboard’s Country Airplay chart when the chart positions are announced in the coming days. With that achievement, Chapman will become the first-ever Black woman to have the sole songwriting credit on a Number One country hit.

The Sherminator is one of the most iconic characters in the American Pie film franchise. Needless to say, no other actor could have portrayed the character as flawlessly as Chris Owen. Although the actor went on to star in several other movies, Owen is mostly remembered for playing Chuck Sherman. By every standard, it is no small feat to feature in a cult classic like American Pie. Owen was a child actor, making his first appearance on screen at the age of 10. Although Owen is decades away from playing High School/College roles, he still holds on to his ever-charming...

As we all mourn the end of the Halloween season and brace ourselves for the seemingly unending parade of holidays based on familial obligations or gross displays of capitalism, November is here to serve as a little respite. Many of the horror movies that disappeared off streaming platforms to try and snag some extra Halloween funds in October are returning to their respective platforms, but the trickling in of cheesy Christmas fare is also coming in fast.
Fortunately, there's a massive amount of old favorites and exciting new titles trying to beat the holiday havoc, and we've got five between Hulu and Disney+ that you would be wise to check out. Action? Teen movies? Horror comedies? Musicals? Weirdly bleak arthouse film with surprising brutality? November has it all, baby.

Charlie Lyne's documentary Beyond Clueless harks back to the classic teen movies that shaped the '90s.
Featuring narration from The Craft's Fairuza Balk (and with clips of Robin Tunney, Devon Sawa and co), it made us feel a sudden pang of nostalgia and sent us on our own trip down memory lane to find out where they - and the rest of the '90s teen movie crew - are now.
So, here are 11 stars from some of our favourite '90s teen movies, and what they've gone on to do since:
1. Devon Sawa - Idle Hands (1999)
Dreamy Devon Sawa starred as lazy stoner Anton Tobias - who turns mass murderer after his hand becomes possessed - in the horror comedy Idle Hands.
He went on to play teenage prophet of doom Alex Browning in Final Destination (2000), and appeared as similarly unstable Stan in Eminem's controversial music...

Start to feel very old, because American Pie celebrates its 15th anniversary this week. The '90s comedy classic was an instant box office hit and helped launch the careers of its leading cast.
Sequels followed, but none of them quite managed to recapture the magic of that glorious first time. There was always something vaguely comforting about American Pie - no matter how bad we had it in school, it was never quite as bad as the experiences of Jim, Oz, Finch and the gang.
To mark American Pie's birthday, Digital Spy has collected 15 of our favourite quotes from the 1999 movie below.
Jim (Jason Biggs)
1. "You realise we're all going to go to college as virgins. They probably have special dorms for people like us."
2. "Guys, uh, what exactly does third base feel like?"
3. "I would like to make an announcement - there is a gorgeous woman masturbating on my bed.

Ron checks out American Pie: The Reunion, and finds the series in better shape than you might think...
It's been a long time since Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) first got to know one another in American Pie, and it's been even longer since they had sex, or so it seems. The fire is going out of their marriage, but Jim has a great plan for reviving things with his wife: attend their high school reunion. Never mind the fact that the class of 1999's reunion is about three years too late, these days you're lucky to have a class reunion at all!
So Jim and Michelle head back to Great Falls, Michigan, where Jim reunited with his old friends Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), and Oz (Chris Klein). The four make plans to hang out, but when their frenemy Stifler (Seann William Scott) crashes the party,...

Here’s another new trailer for Universal Studios’ new movie American Reunion which sees all the cast of the original American Pie movies back together again for another outing of craziness and siliness. Have a watch of the trailer which I’ve emebedded below. The cast includes Jason Biggs, Tara Reid, Alyson Hannigan, Katrina Bowden, Seann William Scott, Mena Suvari, Shannon Elizabeth, John Cho, Chris Klein, Jennifer Coolidge, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Eugene Levy, Chris Owen and John Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. It was summer 1999 when four small-town Michigan boys began a quest to lose their virginity. In the years that have passed, Jim and Michelle married while Kevin and Vicky said goodbye. Oz and Heather grew apart, but Finch still longs for Stifler’s mom. Now these lifelong friends have come home as adults to reminisce about — and get inspired by — the hormonal teens they once were.

Thoughts by Tsr: I get what they are trying to do here. They are saying, “Hey look! Remember all these wacky characters you love? Well, they’re baaaaaack!” And to a certain degree, it works. I don’t hold these films – I’m strictly talking the three that went to theaters, not the multiple direct-to-video releases – in particularly high regard, but they are enjoyable. Seeing the gang – or most of it, at least – back together in this nostalgia fueled teaser is sort of fun.
The idea for American Reunion is a pretty wise one. It’s obvious, but in movies like this it is important to nail the easy stuff. Instead of bending over backwards and coming up with some unbelievable way to get all these folks back together,...

"American Pie" came out the year after I graduated from high school, and it's tale of awkward, horny virgins who have no idea how to relate to women was basically my life story on film, plus an awkward masturbatory pie incident something I could not relate to in any way whatsoever but still found very entertaining. Both sequels, "American Pie 2" and "American Wedding" were satisfying diversions, if not quite as earth-shatteringly honest and funny about 90s teen life as the original. Then came a decade of straight-to-video cash-in sequels with none of the original cast except Eugene Levy as Jim's Dad, still hanging around teenagers for some reason even though Jim himself had split years earlier. And while some of those Dtv titles aren't horrible (some; notice I said some) they never even came close to approximating the pleasure of the true "American Pie"s because they only replicated...

[1] Inglourious Basterds and Beginners actress Melanie Laurent is set to star opposite Jesse Eisenberg in Louis Leterrier's magician heist movie Now You See Me. The story revolves around FBI agents hunting down a group of world-famous bank-robbing magicians (sorry, illusionists [2]) who shower their audiences with the stolen cash. Jake Gyllenhaal, who was previously offered [3] a role, has since passed. No news has been announced regarding either Philip Seymour Hoffman or Olivia Wilde, who were also circling parts in the film. The involvement of Laurent and Eisenberg seems like a good sign, though -- both actors have good track records, and are probably big and respected enough to help draw in other high-quality talent. [Showblitz [4]] After the jump, two big ensemble comedy casts get just a little bit larger. Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) and Rob Huebel (Human Giant) have joined the rapidly expanding cast of What to Expect When You're Expecting,...

So far three actors will reprise their roles. Universal Pictures have signed actors Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott and Eugene Levy to join the cast of “American Reunion.” Other members of the original “American Pie” cast are still in negotiations. They are Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari and Jennifer Collidge. The Hollywood Reporter did not mention Alyson Hannigan, Shannon Elizabeth, Chris Owen and Natasha Lyonne as part of the considered cast for “American Reunion.” The original 1999 film grossed over $100 domestically in theaters. The comedy was followed with several sequels with some of the original characters. The writing team of Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (“Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay”) will write the script and direct the movie. I find it strange that the notable characters Michelle Flaherty (Alyson Hannigan) and Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) were left off THR's list for the reunion cast. I hope they...

What do you get when you cross Harold & Kumar with American Pie? Sounds like we may just find out very soon. Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the duo who created the two Harold & Kumar movies (which grossed $56.4 million in the U.S. and cleaned up in DVD sales), have signed on to direct a big-screen reboot of the American Pie franchise, set to be titled American Pie 4, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Apparently Hurwitz and Schlossberg are already hard at work on the American Pie 4 script, which they are penning, but the storyline is being kept under wraps.

In a number of ways falling in love with a film is the same as falling in love with a lady. You can’t always chose who you hold a candle for. In fact, a lot of time, the heart dictates the object of its affection in spite of logic or pragmatism. Often the recipient of the heart’s desire isn’t the most obvious choice; they aren’t neccesarily the best looking or the smartest. Yet they always have something else going on, a je ne se quais, a something else you may or may not be able to put your finger on. It may be just a small idiosyncacy like the way she screws up her nose when annoyed or the kooky inflections that pepper her sentences.
Angus, a very wonderful little production, is a fantastic example of this. Lost in a crowd of more popular and critically acclaimed teen films,...

Being a teenager is hard work. Growing up, and all the tribulations that come along with it, have been the subject of a great many films. The coming of age movie is tricky and, unfortunately, we recently lost John Hughes, one of the men who perfected the art of holding up a mirror to our growing pains. This month marks the DVD and Blu-ray release of one of the best coming of age films in recent memory: Adventureland. It’s so good that I absolutely refuse to summarize the plot in hopes that you’ll watch it. To be honest, I’ve always had two guilty pleasure genres: horror and coming of age. I appreciate the best (American Graffiti and Dazed and Confused) as well as the worst (I Love You Beth Cooper and any American Pie sequel). In the spirit of things, here are five coming of age films...

In 2005, my friend and I grabbed day passes to the Toronto International Film Fest and coordinated 25 films that incorporated our varying tastes. Film after film was a bad choice, and we began to feel defeated and tired. Then we strolled into Dear Wendy. My appreciation for Lars von Trier had led this choice, and I was expecting a simple, sullen, and strange film, but feared that it would follow this trend of bad choices.
But both of us were transfixed. The creativity of the story was palpable in every scene, as viewers were led through the loveletter to a gun named Wendy, and the lives of gun-toting pacifists. While some aspects of the film mirrored the simplicity of Dogville, it was filled with more stunning visuals, depth, whimsy, and irresistible moments of engagement. It was sweet and fairy tale-ish while also dark and rife with social commentary. By the end,...
