Back in 1964 a lot of people still thought dolphins were fish, but by the time this TV show was finished, we all knew that our happy undersea friend was smarter than the average bear and lives in a world full of wonder. Ivan Tors’ grandly successful Florida-shot family show kept a lot of seagoing movie veterans in green seaweed, including both original ‘Creature’ Gill Men.

Played just this year and last in a pair of campy Christina Ricci movies for the Lifetime Channel, famous axe murderer Lizzie Borden is also heading to the cinema screen in yet another project. Belgian director Pieter Van Hees (Waste Land) will direct an as-yet-untitled psychological thriller based on Borden's sordid story, with Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart both in line to star."Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 whacks," goes the rhyme. "When she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41."Borden was actually acquitted of the 1892 murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts, but she remains the prime suspect for Bordenologists who continue to study the case. Other potential perps that have been suggested include the Bordens' live-in maid Bridget Sullivan, Lizzie's sister Emma, her illegitimate half-brother William, and her uncle John Morse. In the new film, Sevigny will take the role of Lizzie,...

Here’s another installment featuring Joe Dante’s reviews from his stint as a critic for Film Bulletin circa 1969-1974. Our thanks to Video Watchdog and Tim Lucas for his editorial embellishments!
Modest, lively juvenile fantasy‑with‑music from the TV series combines live actors and life‑sized puppet characters in broad slapstick. Ok for matinee and family trade. Rating: G.
Economically expanded from Sid and Marty Krofft’s Saturday morning NBC‑TV kiddie show, Pufnstuf is lively and flashy enough to hold the attention of the kids for whom it was designed, although the fantasy has a plastic aura which prevents it from attaining a much higher level than that of cardboard whimsy. A smart merchandising deal with TV sponsor Kellogg, a ready‑made audience, and its G‑rated comic nature will enable the Universal release to score in family situations and kiddie matinees, though it definitely requires a...

Updated: Allman Brothers cofounder Gregg Allman tried to shut down the troubled production of the biopic of his life, "Midnight Rider," two weeks ago. He slapped two production companies -- Unclaimed Freight Prods. and Allman LLC -- with a lawsuit, alleging that his life rights were no longer up for option. Well, now, Allman has dropped the suit, which also alleged that Unclaimed Freight owed him $150,000. Tuesday morning in Chatham County (Georgia) Superior Court, attorneys informed Judge John Morse that a resolution was in sight, thus dismissing the lawsuit. This came a day after director Randall Miller, in Savannah, made his first public statement about the tragedy surrounding the shoot three months ago. It's unclear whether production will resume or not, or whether criminal charges will be filed. Elsewhere in the whack-a-mole world of industry lawsuits, Quentin Tarantino's one against Gawker for hosting his "Hateful Eight" script is back on; and Bryan Singer is.
