- Michael McGuire was born on June 30, 1930 in the USA. He is an actor, known for Hard Times (1975), Dark Shadows (1966) and A More Perfect Union: America Becomes a Nation (1989).
- Best known for his role on Cheers as Sumner Sloan, whose character sets the entire series in motion on the pilot episode, ditching Diane Chambers (Shelley Long) at the bar. He returned for two more episodes later on.

- McGuire was originally cast as Bill Mulderig, the Federal Narcotics Agent, who was the nemesis of NY detective Popeye Doyle. At the last minute, McGuire was replaced by actor/stuntman Bill Hickman.
