Death In Paradise spin-off Return To Paradise is now filming on location in Australia. Here are the details.
The thirteenth series of Robert Thorogood’s long-running crime drama Death In Paradise recently concluded, with Ralf Little leaving the show. His replacement has not yet been announced, but what is being dubbed ‘The Paraverse’ is expanding once again.
The first spin-off, Beyond Paradise, is in the midst of its second series. Developed by Thorogood and Hustle creator Tony Jordan, Kris Marshall reprises the role of Humphrey Goodman, who solves crimes in the fictional town of Shipton Abbott, near Devon.
The second is Return To Paradise. It was announced last year, but now the BBC have revealed details of the plot and characters. The synopsis reads as follows:
Return to Paradise follows Di Mackenzie Clarke (Anna Samson), an Australian ex-pat who’s made a name for herself in London’s Metropolitan Police for cracking uncrackable murder cases.

If you're still shipping Peregrine and James, Ms. Fisher's Modern Mysteries Season 2 Episode 6 is the episode for you.
Acorn TV was kind enough to provide TV Fanatic with an exclusive clip of the upcoming episode that finds the pair working a case that gives them some food for thought.
"On race day, the president of the Sandridge Pigeon Club is discovered dead in the coop, covered in feathers and choked by birdseed," reads the logline for the episode.
"While Peregrine works the case with James, Birdie has her own mysterious mission to complete."
The clip shows the ever-observant Ms. Fisher speaking to James and dissecting her observations about the guest characters who very well could have murdered the man found in his coop.
What's immediately obvious is that the conversation begins about those characters, but it very quickly becomes about the two characters at the wheel of the show.

Fiona Eagger.
The biggest challenge facing TV producers next year is figuring out ways to keep Australian dramas screening on the free-to-air broadcasters, according to Fiona Eagger.
Eagger, who co-founded Every Cloud Productions with Deb Cox, welcomes the raising of the TV Producer Offset to 30 per cent but laments the abolition of the local content sub-quotas for Fta networks.
“For Australian producers our greatest challenge is keeping Australian drama alive on our free-to-airs,” she tells If. “All the networks want to keep making Australian drama because when it hits the sweet spot, it creates great audience loyalty to a brand.
“But they’re worried about their revenues and livelihoods so, hand-in-glove with Screen Australia and the state agencies, we have to be really clever in how we put deals together.
“We are resilient and inventive but it’s not easy when the government gives on one hand but takes away on the other hand.

Geraldine Hakewill as Peregrine Fisher.
The first of four Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries telemovies won its timeslot on the Seven Network last night.
Produced by Beth Frey for Every Cloud Productions, the show was No. 1 across its two hours, although the first hour trailed Network 10’s Gogglebox and the ABC’s Escape from the City.
Seven claimed victory because the viewing figures averaged across the two hours exceeded those on 10 and the ABC.
Created by Fiona Eagger and Deb Cox and directed by Fiona Banks, the 1964-set drama-comedy introduced Geraldine Hakewill as Peregrine Fisher, who takes on the mantle of lady private detective from Phryne Fisher, the aunt she never knew.

Director Fiona Banks is tired of watching shows which depict women as victims, back-stabbers or characters who are pitted against each other.
So she was thrilled when she was offered Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries, Every Cloud Productions’ spin off of the ABC series which starred Essie Davis as Phryne Fisher.
“The thing that drew me to the show from the word go is the genuine friendships between the women,” says Banks, who served as the set-up director for the first time in her illustrious career.
“These women support and encourage each other. These are good strong relationships. They are not always in agreement with each other and there is lot of humour and strength of character.”

Glenn Dunks was at the AFI Awards 2010, and although his favourite film didn’t win any, he will always remember the night Animal Kingdom ruled the world.
And with that the 2010 Samsung Mobile AFI Awards are over and done with for another year. David Michôd’s Animal Kingdom dominated the ceremony as everybody expected, but the refreshingly diverse roster of Australian films from 2010 brought about winners from period romances to action adventures, musicals to vampire horror films. Of the six projects nominated for Best Film only one – Julie Bertuccelli’s poetic The Tree, my personal favourite Australian film of 2010 – left empty handed.
Host Shane Jacobson, of Kenny fame, began the proceedings with a musical sequence that referenced Australian films past and present before what can politely be called “the Animal Kingdom show” commenced, quickly winning several awards.

It was a night of success for Animal Kingdom at last night’s 2010 Samsung AFI Awards; the event’s final year in Melbourne before moving to Sydney went out with the blast of a shotgun as the tale of Melbourne’s underworld criminals won 10 prizes. Glenn Dunks reports.
David Michôd’s film won every major category except Best Supporting Actress, which went to Deborah Mailman for musical Bran Nue Dae. Stuart Beattie took home the statue for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on Tomorrow, When the War Began, and mentioned he has recently started writing the sequel. Hollywood stars Sam Worthington and Mia Wasikowksa took home the Best International Actor and Actress awards, but the biggest surprise was the win for Contact in Best Documentary.
The TV categories were dominated by Network Ten, which won awards for Rush, Hawke and Offspring (Mailman’s second award for the night), while Catherine McClements beat her co-star,...

Presided over by revered actress Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom) and presented by fellow Aussie actors Alex Dimitriades (Summer Coda), Gyton Grantley (Underbelly) and AFI Ambassador Cate Blanchett, the AFI Awards nominations were announced this week. Weaver, who stepped into hosting duties for an unavailable Catherine McClements, had the right amount of finesse and comedic timing to ensure the announcements were entertaining. She quickly struck up a rapport with the now smitten Shane Jacobson, whose ahem... smooth moves failed to impress the actress. Star of the hit comedy Kenny, Jacobson will host the award ceremony itself, scheduled for December 11 at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne.

Thanks to AfterEllen.com reader Sophia we now know that the Aussie cop drama Rush has given its bisexual character, StellaDagostino (Nicole da Silva), a girlfriend. And I now know that that Rush is better than every police procedural in America.
Maybe it's the snappy Sorkin walk-n-talk meets crazy CSI artistry. Maybe it's the sexy cars and guns and accents. Or maybe it's the deliciously angry subtext between Stella and her gun-wielding boss, Kerry Vincent (Catherine McClements).
For ignorant Yanks (like myself, up until a few hours ago), here's a rundown: Rush follows the lives of Melbourne's Tactical Response Team. They're smarter than you and they've got the technology to prove it. Stella is a part of the unit. Her bisexuality was hinted at in the first season, and although she's already shagged fellow officer MichaelSandrelli in this (second) season, she's got a girlfriend named Alana now.
