More than half a million people are shareholders in the Green Bay Packers — and the team’s former quarterback Aaron Rodgers is taking a similar fan-owned approach with his internet startup, the Online Sports Database, which seeks to build a community by crowdsourcing $1.25 million in bridge funding.
Rodgers and actor Ryan Rottman launched Osdb in 2021 after chatting about the gap in the marketplace at Casa Vega in Sherman Oaks. Rottman had wondered why there wasn’t a sports equivalent of IMDb, so he asked Rogers what he thought of the idea.
“We went to dinner one night, and I just said, ‘As an athlete, is this something you think you would utilize? Like, do you think it would help you? Do you think people would care?'” Rottman recalls. He remembers Rogers asking if he’d told anyone else about his idea. “I said, ‘A couple buddies.’ And he said,...

E4’s new comedy, starting tonight, about a group of West Country 20-somethings boasts a star turn from Sean Bean…
Looking back now, the most outlandish part of brilliantly inventive 1999 sitcom Spaced isn’t a movie parody, cutaway gag or eccentric character, but the idea that you could rent a fully furnished two-bedroom flat in Zone Two for ninety quid a week. If Tim Bisley and Daisy Steiner were house-hunting in London today, they’d be forced to pack up their Gillian Anderson posters and typewriter and head back to their respective hometowns to crash on a mate’s sofa.
That’s the fate of Kent (Dylan Edwards) in the first episode of Wasted, a new UK comedy series starting tonight on E4.

Jordan Maron’s mobile gaming company Xreal can now get funding directly from fans. The YouTube star, better known as CaptainSparklez, has partnered with StartEngine, a Kickstarter-like investing platform, to help raise capital for his mobile gaming brand.
Founded by entrepreneur Ron Miller and Activision co-founder Howard Marks, StartEngine is a crowdfunding platform which facilitates investments between individuals and private companies. Prior to June 19, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) didn’t allow private companies to accept equity crowdfunding. This meant startups and entrepreneurs without connections to high net worth investors and firms often struggled to raise capital, no matter how viable and potentially lucrative their business ideas were.
Now that the SEC has implemented a new set of rules called Regulation A+, equity crowdfunding is possible for small businesses and startups. StartEngine’s platform is at the center of this new fundraising opportunity, helping businesses get the money they need to operate.

Educations come in all shapes and sizes. You can go the average “American Dream” route, go to high school, a nice college and then get a high-paying job. Or maybe you go to a technical school and start a small business. There’s always the journeyman route where you scour the globe looking for any experience you can get. Of course, none of these paths are necessarily mutually exclusive, nor are they the only choices, and perhaps the best real-life illustration of this fact is the notorious British drug smuggler Howard Marks. He went from a scholar to a drug dealer to a British spy and eventually a convicted felon, but in the course of it all he saw the world, wined and dined with powerful men on both sides of the law, and had one hell of a time doing it. Mr. Nice tells Marks’s story from his...

This review was originally published June 2, 2011. It is being reposted for the DVD release. Drug dealer biopics aren’t exactly the most traditionally happy-go-lucky genre. The classics are the extremely violent tales of hubris and disaster, from Tony Montana to Henry Hill. Even films like “Blow,” working with a more laid-back sense of charisma, find it impossible to avoid the bleaker details of this often violent and profoundly illegal profession. Yet if a happy-go-lucky drug-trafficker biopic was going to get made, it would be the story of Howard Marks. This is not to say that the new film, “Mr.…...

This week is the lightest in recent memory with only four (barely) notable horror releases. Synapse Films' 100th release, Robert Young’s classic Vampire Circus, will be gracing our screens and so will Dear Mr. Gacy, the adaptation of The Last Victim, the memoirs of Jason Moss, who corresponded with serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Read on to see what the other two are.
Vampire Circus (1972)

Starring David Prowse, Robert Tayman, Anthony Higgins, Thorley Walters
A little girl is brutally slain by a vampire in a tiny 19th century Austrian village. Seeking revenge, the townspeople invade the foreboding castle of Count Mitterhaus and kill him for the crime. With over 43 aliases, 86 phone lines, 25 companies and over 1 million books sold, Howard Marks (aka "Mr. Nice") is one of, if not thee most, infamous British drug barons in crime history. As much of a cultural icon as a gangster, Howard Marks literally did it all. He promoted music, dabbled in nuclear physics, was a spy for the CIA and the MI6 at the same time and wrote books to boot. To quote The Daily Mail; "He sounds like Richard Burton, and looks like a Rolling Stone." Basically, he was the man.
Come 2010, the outrageous and surreal true story of Howard Marks will be told by director Bernard Rose in Mr. Nice. Starring a stellar cast including Rhys Ifans, Chloë Sevigny and, one of my personal favorites, David Thewlis, I expect that Mr. Nice will be like a British Blow.

Rhys Ifan's made an appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross this past Friday, and during his interview on the famous squeaky couch, he confirmed that he will be starring in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
According to sources, it is believed that Ifans will be playing Xenophilius Lovegood, the editor of The Quibbler. Although I didn't catch Ifans confirming that himself on the show, he did say he's already been fitted for his costume.
Ifans is currently filming "Mr Nice," a film based on the life and career of Howard Marks, a notorious drug smuggler and campaigner for the legalisation of cannabis.
While on set, Ifans was fitted for his costume in Harry Potter, which he remembers fondly:

Actor/musician Rhys Ifans is calling for marijuana to be legalised - describing the banned drug as a "beneficial herb".
The Notting Hill star, who is currently filming Mr Nice - a biopic of notorious British drug smuggler Howard Marks - is adamant cannabis is less harmful than alcohol.
He says, "A lot of people like dope in Wales and Howard is its champion. The reason why he sold it is because he thinks, and I agree, that it's a beneficial herb.
"I feel marijuana should be legalised. Not so that people get high all over the place, but so it can be controlled. Drugs have been legal longer than they have been illegal, and it's just hypocrisy to be able to sell alcohol to children while marijuana is illegal."...

He says, "A lot of people like dope in Wales and Howard is its champion. The reason why he sold it is because he thinks, and I agree, that it's a beneficial herb.

Filming is underway in Wales on the Howard Marks biopic Mr. Nice, and the kind people at Independent Films have released a first still from the shoot, showing Rhys Ifans in action as the bongtastic Welshman. There's not a heck of a lot to be said about it in truth, except that it's Marks at a distinctly sober-looking moment, sporting just the teensiest touch of the Liam Gallaghers.Bearing in mind Marks' rich history as spy, smuggler, scourge of the DEA and one-man garden centre, he's pretty ripe material for a character actor like Ifans, and we're looking forward to seeing the results later this year.Mr. Nice also stars Chloë Sevigny as Marks' wife Judy, and David Thewlis as Irishman Jim McCann, a republican contact from his trafficking days.

Marks spent seven years of a 25-year sentence in prison in Terre Haute, In for drug charges after he and his wife were extradited from Majorca, Spain to Florida. Tuesday night, actress Chloe Sevigny attended the opening of the Diesel Planet store in Milan. The Italian city is currently holding its men's fashion week, which was the perfect place for Sevigny to discuss her new men's line with the press.
However, Sevigny's line isn't just a men's clothing line. It is a men's unisex line.
Sevigny told Women's Wear Daily she will be in Paris after her time in Milan to showcase the line. "It's skinny, chain-y, stud-y," she told the website. But the actress turned fashion designer did not go into detail about how the men's line would be unisex and appealing to women.
From there, Sevigny will then travel to Wales to begin filming "Mr. Nice" with Rhys Ifans. She will play the wife of the famed smuggler Howard Marks, who will be played by Ifans.

On the one side, there's Howard Marks -- international drug smuggler and U.K. spy. On the other, there's some faces that you might not expect to find in international drug and spy territory.
The Hollywood Reporter posts that Rhys Ifans, Chloe Sevigny, and David Thewlis are wrapping up negotiations to star in Mr. Nice -- Bernard Rose's adaptation of Marks' autobiography of the same name. Ifans, who long ago played Puff in Michel Gondry's Human Nature, will head the cast as Marks. Once Britain's most-wanted man, he morphed from Oxford grad and teacher into a drug smuggler -- all to impress his wife Judy (Sevigny). Thewlis comes into the picture as an Irish Republican Army boss he asks for a job, which leads Marks to his other gig -- informant for British intelligence.
But wait -- don't expect lots of violence and action -- according to Wikipedia,...
